Harry said a quick goodbye to his friends and followed his
Aunt and Uncle out of Kings Cross Station and across the car park. His cousin
reluctantly helped Harry put his school trunk into the boot of his uncle’s
latest car, a brand new BMW 7 series estate, the two boys got in the back seat
and buckled up. Dudley had only helped Harry because his father had warned him
earlier that he didn’t want his vehicle scratched by the freak’s trunk and had
promised him that he could have a week off his diet if he helped.
The silence inside the Dursley’s car was overpowering, the
only sound was that of the traffic round them as Vernon weaved his way across
London and onto the M25 and onward to Little Whinging.
Harry blanked all
emotion from his face and replayed Moody’s conversation with Vernon at Kings
Cross Station. “If we get any hint Potter’s been mistreated in any way…” he had
really enjoyed seeing his uncle squirm but feared that he may suffer for it
once his uncle thought he was clear of the ex-Aurors influence.
Vernon pulled into the driveway at 4 Privet Drive and
switched off the engine, his aunt and cousin were out the car and in the house
before Harry had unbuckled his seatbelt, he had never seen Dudley move so fast.
As he got out of the back seat Harry found himself pinned by the throat against
the car.
“Listen up, Potter” hissed his uncle, “This summer you are
going to earn your keep, Mrs. Figg has asked if you can go round and help her
with her garden and redecorating her house. She will pay you £5 per day you
will give this to your aunt to pay for your room and food. If I hear one
complaint from Mrs Figg, friends or no friends I will throw you out onto the
street where you belong. You start at 8 a.m. tomorrow.”
Harry suppressed a smile, obviously his aunt and uncle had
no idea that his old babysitter was a Squib (non-magical child of magical
parentage) or they wouldn’t have dreamed of letting him go to her house, this
could be an interesting summer he thought to himself.
Vernon helped lift Harry’s trunk and Hedwig’s cage out the
car and left him to struggle into the house and upstairs to his room. Harry
opened Hedwig’s cage and fed her an owl treat as he wrote his first two letters
of the summer.
“Dear Remus, just to let you know I arrived safely, my old
babysitter has asked Vermin to let me work in her garden and he said yes, I’ll
write again when I know more,” and signed the letter.
The second letter was even shorter all it said was “Darling
Luna, missing you already, Love Harry” he knew he’d need to get better at love
letters but addressed it and sent Hedwig off to deliver them.
When he went into the dining room to eat all that was left
on the table were the remains of a chicken. He was told that if he wanted to
eat to make do with what was there. He went to the kitchen and got some bread
and made himself a sandwich with the few scraps of meat he could find on the
chicken bones and washed it down with some water. All the pots and plates had
been left in the kitchen sink, so to save any hassle he washed everything and
put it all away. As he left the kitchen his aunt spoke to him for the first
time that day.
“Harry, your uncle wants his breakfast at 7:00 a.m., have it
ready for him”
“Yes aunt Petunia” he replied and went up to his room.
Harry hardly slept all night, every time he drifted off he
found himself reliving Sirius’ death in the Department of Mysteries and woke gasping
for air. At 6:30 a.m. he heard his uncle going for a shower so he threw on some
clothes and made his way down to the kitchen. Years of practice had honed
Harry’s cooking skills and as Vernon walked into the kitchen Harry placed a
plate laden with sausage, fried eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, bacon, black
pudding and baked beans at his place setting. A glass of freshly squeezed
orange juice and a mug of freshly ground coffee were placed either side of
Vernon’s plate.
Harry turned to go for a shower only to be faced by his
cousin. He repeated the process for Dudley and also made some tea and toast for
his aunt. By the time he finished he didn’t have time to eat or shower as
Vernon was bundling him out of the house and sending him off to his summer job
saying he would collect him later to make sure he was earning his money.
Harry walked up to Mrs. Figg’s door, as he approached the
old lady opened the door welcomed him in and gave him an unexpected hug and
closed the door behind him. Mrs. Figg led Harry through to the kitchen and told
him to sit down at the table. As he sat a huge plate of breakfast was placed in
front of him and what looked like a glass of yellow milkshake sat on the table
beside him. Harry’s plate held a large rare steak, pork chops, lamb chops,
bacon, mushrooms, fried bread, sausages and two fried eggs. Harry sipped at the
drink and realised the glass contained raw eggs. He looked at Mrs. Figg saw her
nod swallowed the contents of the glass and set about clearing his plate.
As Harry finished chewing the last piece of food he heard a
noise and looked up. He saw Dumbledore entering the kitchen, he still hadn’t
quite forgiven his Headmaster for keeping so many secrets from him, so he only
mumbled a greeting and avoided eye contact.
Dumbledore came over and sat across the table from Harry and
said “Harry, I need to discuss some things with you, there are others coming,
and once everyone is here we’ll get down to business.”
“That makes a change” thought Harry but kept his mouth
closed and his temper in check.
Just at that the fire flared green and Harry watched as
Tonks and Luna arrived by Floo. Harry greeted Tonks and walked over to Luna and
welcomed her with a quick embrace and a chaste kiss. Tonks took Luna’s school
trunk out of her pocket and cast a spell on it to bring it back to its normal
size.
Dumbledore nodded to Tonks who disappeared in a green flash
and asked Luna to join him and Harry in Mrs. Figg’s sitting room. The two
teenagers followed him and sat together holding hands.
The old Headmaster began by apologising once more for
previously keeping Harry in the dark about the prophecy and explained why he
was here. Professor Snape had learned that Voldemort was planning on attacking
Harry at the Dursley’s house. The blood he taken from Harry during his rebirth
ritual had weakened the blood charm protecting the house. Voldemort had already
tested this out by transfiguring himself into a door-to-door salesman and
selling Petunia some unnecessary household goods at highly inflated prices by
using the Imperious Curse on her.
Voldemort’s followers had been ordered to hunt down and
execute the other five students who had fought against the Death Eaters at the
Department of Mysteries, and the Order had vowed to protect them.
The Order had drawn up plans on how to protect the six
friends hence Mrs. Figg offering Harry a job. Harry was told that when he
returned to the Dursley’s house for dinner that evening, his uncle would inform
him that he had won a Caribbean Cruise for being the top salesman for Grunnings
and they would be leaving in two days.
Dumbledore then explained that Harry and Luna would be moved
to 12 Grimmauld Place for the remainder of the holiday and that Remus would be
taking care of them. He also explained that various members of the Order had
offered to tutor Harry over the summer to help prepare him for the inevitable
confrontation with Voldemort.
Harry thanked Dumbledore for being honest with him and asked
that Luna be given the same instruction he would be receiving, as her
relationship with Harry would increase the danger she was in, Dumbledore
agreed.
Much to Harry’s disappointment he learned that Hermione and
her parents had been sent to Australia for the holidays, and that the Weasleys
were going to Rumania, Neville was well protected by his family, but Harry and
Luna were vulnerable. Luna’s father was also a target because he had printed an
article containing details of Voldemort’s ancestry, revealing his Halfblood
status and turning many of those who secretly supported him away. Voldemort’s
inner circle however, remained loyal to him. Mr. Lovegood had left for South
America to track down a Smooth-Horned Snorkack having found the Crumple-Horned
variety living peacefully at the bottom of his garden.
Harry and Luna spent the remainder of the day sitting on a
porch swing in the back garden talking about the previous years adventures
taking care not to draw too much attention to their blossoming romance. Luna
had told her father that Harry was her boyfriend and Mr. Lovegood given Luna a
brief letter for Harry in which he asked him to take care of his precious
daughter and said he was looking forward to getting to know the young man who
had captured her heart.
At six p.m. Vernon pulled up outside to inspect Harry’s days
work and although he berated him for not having worked hard enough he was
actually impressed by the amount of work Harry had appeared to have completed.
What Vernon didn’t realise was that Mrs. Figg’s garden was charmed to look
unkempt to help with her cover of being the local batty old cat lady and the
charm had been temporarily removed.
After Harry had cleaned
himself up he sat down to dinner, to his credit he managed to look shocked when
his Uncle announced the news about the cruise, and after he had washed up asked
if he could go out for a walk. As he opened the gate of No. 4 Tonks appeared
beside him and announced she was his guard for the night. They walked round to
Mrs. Figg’s house to collect Luna as he had arranged and the three of them
headed for the local park.
They sat at a picnic table and for the first time Harry told
a friend a little bit about life at the Dursleys. Luna wept the tears that
Harry wouldn’t weep for himself and Tonks who had grown fond of her cousin’s
Godson wanted to storm round and curse the family into the middle of next week.
Luna whispered in Harry’s ear and a broad grin grew across his face and the two
of them asked Tonks to help so the three formulated a plan to get revenge on
the Dursleys.
A quick spell from Tonks and Luna suddenly looked six months
pregnant. Tonks used her morphing power and took on the look of an irate
mother. The three of them headed round to No. 4. Outside the gate Tonks grabbed
Harry by the ear, Luna by the hand and dragged them along the path and battered
on the Dursley’s front door. When Vernon opened the door she burst in past him
still dragging Luna and Harry, forced her way into the sitting room and let
rip.
“Your scum of a nephew has got my daughter pregnant when
they were at school. The school won’t take responsibility, you’re his
Guardians, what are you going to do about it?” she screamed at Vernon.
Petunia looked at the pretty, but obviously pregnant young
witch and fainted, Dudley continued to watch TV and stuff his face. oblivious
to what was happening around him, but Vernon went from palest white to an
almost black purple in about three seconds flat. As he started to berate Harry,
Tonks removed the spell from Luna and switched back into the form she had
assumed while at Kings Cross.
Vernon realised that the three people in front of him were
laughing he looked again and saw that Luna was still young and pretty, but
definitely not pregnant and realised his nephew had pulled a prank on him. He
leant forward to grab Harry and found himself staring down the business end of
a wand. He recognised Tonks from the previous day and backed down quickly.
Tonks revived Petunia who was still looking shocked and announced that Harry
was moving out straight away. Dudley meanwhile remained oblivious to everything
and continued to stuff his face with sweets and watch TV.
The three friends went up to Harry’s room and collected what
little he had unpacked and put it back in his trunk, he picked up Hedwig’s cage
and left for Mrs. Figg’s house. When they had got Harry’s stuff into an empty
room Tonks contacted the Order Members who were scheduled to guard Harry that
night and let them know he had moved to Mrs. Figg’s house.
Mrs. Figg set out a light supper for them and they told her
about the prank they had played. She said that the only regret she had was that
she hadn’t been there, as she would have enjoyed seeing the Dursleys’ reaction.
She said that if it hadn’t been for the fact that the Dursleys knew she didn’t
have any family that she would have enjoyed playing an irate mother and have
both Luna and Tonks playing her pregnant daughters with Harry as the father.
The thought of how the Dursleys’ would have reacted to this set the four
friends off again.
That night when Harry’s nightmare started, Luna heard him as
he wept and called out for Sirius. She remembered how she had felt after her
mother had died and slipped into Harry’s room and took him in her arms. She
held him tight and whispered words of comfort to him until he relaxed, as she
went to go back to her own bed Harry asked her to stay, which she did. For the
first time since Sirius died, Harry slept without nightmares spooning with his
young lover.
At 8:30 a.m. Tonks looked into Luna’s room and panicked, she
had been ordered to keep Luna and Harry safe and now one of her charges was
missing. She knew Luna wasn’t downstairs or in the bathroom as she had just
come upstairs and the bathroom door was open and the room was empty. With a
feeling of dread Tonks opened the door to Harry’s room fearing that he was
going to be missing too, and saw the two of them lying together in Harry’s bed.
Not knowing whether to be relieved or angry she shouted
“Goooood Morrrniiiiing lovebirds”.
Harry and Luna jumped up, to Tonks’ relief she noticed that
both teenagers were still wearing their PJ’s, experience told her that when
nightclothes came off in the throes of passion that they usually stayed off
‘til next day. She sent Harry off to get showered and had “the talk” with Luna.
Luna explained that her and Harry had started going out on the last night of
school, she didn’t mention that they’d had sex but told Tonks that they had
decided to take their relationship slowly, but didn’t say that they’d only made
that decision last night.
When Harry came back Luna went off for her shower, after he
had dressed Tonks had a similar conversation with him and got almost identical
answers. This put Tonks’ mind at ease for if the two had answered identically
she would have suspected they had worked on a story together. When they went down
to the kitchen and sat at the table, Harry was fed the same style of breakfast
he had had the previous day sat in front of him, he noticed that Luna had the
same selection albeit a slightly smaller portion.
“Aurors breakfast” explained Tonks as she tucked into the
same thing. “High protein to help build muscles, carbohydrates for a slow
energy burn, you’ll need it.”
The two young lovers spent the remainder of the morning
sitting out in the garden, holding hands, cuddling, kissing and telling each
other bits about their lives. Harry found himself opening up to Luna in a way
he had never opened up to anyone before. He told her more about the way his
aunt, uncle and cousin had treated him over the years even telling her about
the times Vernon had tried to thump the abnormalities out of him. He told her
about living in the cupboard under the stairs, having to wear the baby whale’s
cast off clothing and the bullying he had endured at his cousin’s hands.
As he spoke Luna listened caressed him and wept for her
lover knowing he would never weep for himself. She vowed to herself that she
would take all his hurt away, and as he spoke Harry felt a burden being lifted
and realised that the simple act of sharing his hurt for the first time had
freed up a little bit of his soul.
Luna spoke of her life, how that after her mother had died
her father had initially thrown himself into his work on his magazine, sparing
little thought for his daughter as he grieved for his wife. She spoke about how
she spent most summers with him hunting mythical magical creatures, and of how
as his grieving for her mother had passed their bond of love had strengthened.
They also spoke of the voices behind the Veil in the
Department of Mysteries and Luna explained that they were the voices of those
that had passed on to the next great adventure.
At lunch Tonks explained what they would need for their
summer training, Luna really only needed some sports bras for when she was
training as she had got all her clothes back, but Harry needed to be dressed
from the skin out. Tonks hurriedly organised a trip to Diagon Alley.
Harry went to Gringotts and drew some money from his vault
to pay for his new clothes. They moved quickly from store to store with Tonks’
advising him on what he would need and Luna helping pick out colours and styles
that suited him. The two girls enjoyed using Harry as their dress-up doll and
he enjoyed their company.
Harry was slightly overwhelmed by the day’s clothes shopping
as he had never really bought new clothes before. When they had kitted him out
he sent them over to Florean Fortescue’s ice-cream parlour and told them to
order anything they liked as he was going to get new Quidditch gloves. What he
really did was go into a small jewellers they had passed earlier and bought
Luna a friendship ring he had noticed her admiring. He had the inside of the
ring engraved with their initials and had it protected with sizing and
anti-theft charms and hid it in his pocket.
When they got back to Little Whinging, Harry and Luna went
up to their rooms and put away their new purchases. Harry looked at the faded
oversized clothes he was wearing and then at his new clothes. He stripped,
showered, went back to his room and dressed in clothes (other than his school
robes) bought new for him for the first time since he had arrived at his aunt’s
house almost fourteen years previously.
Harry gathered up all Dudley’s cast offs and marched out
into Mrs. Figg’s garden. He went into her tool shed and took out some gardening
tools and worked his way round the garden collecting rubbish and dead wood
piling it into a brazier where he had seen the old lady burning rubbish years
before. He put the old clothes on top of the garden refuse, borrowed some
matches and lit his bonfire. As he watched, the clothes were consumed with
flames and he felt as if he was being cleansed from the neglect he had suffered
at the hands of his relatives. As the flames died he was aware he wasn’t alone
and felt an arm slip round his waist he put his arm round Luna’s shoulder and
she snuggled into him. Tonks watched from a window and thought how good they
looked together and felt a slight pang of jealousy for the other girl.
The day’s shopping followed by the ritual of burning
Dudley’s cast offs had raised Harry’s spirits and the banter while eating
dinner was good. After excusing themselves the young lovers cleaned up the
detritus from the evening meal and went outside and sat in the garden to watch
the sun going down. As the final rays of the sun disappeared Harry turned to
Luna and kissed her tenderly.
“I know we’ve only been together a few days, but I feel I’ve
known you forever” being unsure of the emotions he was feeling he quickly ran
out of words so he gathered his Gryffindor courage and took the friendship ring
from his pocket and asked Luna if she would wear it. Luna’s eyes filled with
tears and for a moment Harry thought he had blown it but she took the ring and
placed it on the third finger of her left hand.
As she watched from the window Tonks saw a brief glow emit
from the young couple but dismissed it as the last dying rays of the sun.
That night as Harry lay in his bed thinking about how lucky
he was he saw his door open briefly and felt someone climb into bed beside him.
He knew immediately that it was Luna and turned to kiss her. What started as a
chaste kiss quickly deepened as mutual lust took over. They trailed kisses over
each other’s earlobes and necks and explored each other’s bodies with their
hands. Harry gently removed Luna’s nightdress and looked down at her beautiful
body. In the Room of Requirement he had been too embarrassed to examine it with
his eyes but this time he drank it all in and would have been able to draw
every curve from memory if asked.
Luna reached down and pulled Harry’s PJ trousers off, he
hadn’t put a top on, as the night had been warm. She examined him closely
looking at the scars he bore from playing Quidditch, fighting basilisks,
dragons and curses from Death Eaters. She reached out and drew him to her and
started kissing him again. As their bodies responded to the others touch all
thoughts of slowing things down in their relationship disappeared and for the
first time they truly made love. Twice they woke up in each other’s arms, made
love and slipped back to sleep.
When Tonks woke them for breakfast the next morning she
noted that this time the nightclothes were on the floor but silently vowed to
keep their secret. As Harry stepped into the shower he felt Luna step in beside
him, he looked down at his lover and kissed her gently. He took the soap and
began to wash her back gently massaging the creamy lather into her skin. When
he had finished washing her back he turned her round and started washing her
breasts. He heard her gasp as his thumbs, calloused from years of Quidditch,
brushed across her nipples bringing them to an instant hardness. Luna then
repaid the compliment and washed Harry, when she washed his penis it responded
and grew hard.
Although she had made love to Harry, Luna hadn’t actually
taken more than a quick glimpse at his manhood but this time she did and was
impressed by what she saw and found that she was getting quite aroused. She
began to stroke Harry’s cock with one hand and pulled his head down with the
other so she could kiss him. The young couple got lost in the moment and
without any thoughts about who might hear, made love in the shower. As they
washed each other again Harry heard Tonks shout.
“Moody’s arriving in thirty minutes and your breakfast is
getting cold”
Not knowing when they would eat again that day, they quickly
dried off, got dressed and wandered into the kitchen arm in arm. While they
were eating and engrossed in each others conversation Tonks slipped a
morning-after potion onto Luna’s pumpkin juice and promised herself that she
would teach both of them contraception charms before the day was out.
