Chapter 2
A/N: I’m still in school here. Here in the middle of nowhere . . . at least it feels like it. Only 4 days left and I can go home again and with it back to work.
I have to say after my first week in school for librarians . . . I like working better. ^-^
Oh man, I had planned this out so well and now, I’m too lazy to write it down but I wanted it finished by Christmas and . . . you get the idea. ^.^’
“Do you think he’s mad now?” the black haired girl asked and titled her head.
“I don’t think so. You should have watched his face. He’s more puzzled maybe a bit annoyed but not mad.” Hermione lectured them while her friends rolled their eyes at her.
Draco shook his head and wandered out of the room after Harry. Should he try to soothe him a little? “What’s with you?” he asked softly and nudged the other man gently to take a seat on the arm of his easy chair.
Harry shook his head slightly and rubbed over his eyes. “I’m just tired I think.” The blonde smiled gently and bent down a bit. Silently he took Harry’s face in his hands and turned his head towards him. Intensely he looked into the deeps of these emerald eyes and whispered a few words the raven-haired one could not make out correctly.
Harry blinked confused before he already started to loose himself in those silver eyes. He hadn’t noticed before that there were lighter whirls in them that tried to hold his eyes, maybe forever.
He could hear that Draco’s breath had hitched a bit and discovered that his own wasn’t even either. Silently he blinked again and raised a hand to touch the other one, to caress him or . . .
“Oi! Draco! Are you already flirting?” Pansy laughed when she walked into them and waited until Neville was beside her again.
The blonde startled slightly and took a deep breath still mesmerized by those strong emerald orbs.
“No. I just wished him a good night.” he sniggered delighted and looked at his friend while it seemed that she was leaning against the gentle man.
“What already?” Ryan cried out and waved his arms around. “But it’s time for dinner! I just got it ready!”
“Fine! I’m Goddamn hungry.” Hermione said as neutral as she could and left them to find herself a seat in the kitchen.
“Oh . . . such words out of her mouth.” giggled the black haired girl and took Draco’s hand in a hard grip. “She really must be hungry when she’s using those words. Owe! Pansy!” he cried out and glared at his friend insulted but she just shrugged and smirked at him.
With a now sour look on his face, he followed her unwillingly.
Harry just shook his head. These three were strange, really strange. “I think we should keep an eye on them . . . all three of them.” he mumbled and nudged Ryan’s ribs. His friend just nodded still a bit confused but followed them nevertheless into his kitchen.
“We need a story! So use your fucking fast brain to fantasize one for us!” Pansy hissed softly while she tugged her friend into the kitchen of this Ryan guy.
Draco’s eyes only went wide and he stared at her as if she had lost her mind. “Can’t you think of something yourself?”
“No! And Miss Brains is too hungry to think straight! I don’t want them to find out what we are! Not now! We only met them you idiot!” the girl hissed again and pushed him into a seat.
“Okay, okay . . . we are old friends from collage! Mhm . . . Pansy here studied medicine, Hermione cultures and I . . . I studied literature. I think that could do it.” the blonde said and tipped his fingers against his chin.
“But why are you so rough today?” he then asked his friend but again she just shrugged him off. Annoyed he pouted and tried to ignore her snickering.
“I’m hungry!” Hermione declared once again and almost banged her fist on the table.
Ryan had entered silently and was grinning like a maniac now. He had noticed the girl’s ill humour and had been very pleased with it. Maybe he was a lucky one and she would go out with him. Because he always wanted to have someone like her, with a hungry stomach as a girlfriend . . . maybe even wife.
“Then lets please the hungry woman and eat a good meal.” he chimed and placed their plates in front of them. Harry who set beside Draco looked at him with furrowed brows and shook his head. Something about him was really weird. When his detective instincts wouldn’t leave him suddenly he would find out what it was, he was sure of it.
“So Harry. Tell us what are doing criminals these days?” the cook asked with a laugh at the annoyed expression on his friends face.
“Not much I fear. But my day was irritating you know. Everywhere you look, you can see all this Christmas stuff . . . but I don’t like Christmas at all. And sometimes I think they hang this stuff out just to get me mad!” he replied almost angry now and suddenly felt the blonde’s hand on his knee.
Surprised he looked down onto this hand and then back up into Draco’s face. He had a sad look on his beautiful face and almost watery eyes. But why? He did not understand it. Just because he does not like Christmas like everyone else did?
Pansy bit her lips silently and looked at her plate. She noticed out of the corner of her eyes that Neville watched her concerned.
Even Hermione stopped her fork midway towards her mouth and had a sad look on her face.
Confused Ryan looked around. What had just happened? After all it wasn’t new that Harry didn’t like December and all the celebrating around it.
Draco looked into the emerald eyes he loved since he was a little . . . ‘I have a lot of work to do’ he thought and forced a calming smile on his lips.
“You have made a delicious meal Ryan. How comes that you’re such a good cook?” Hermione asked and brought everyone back to his or her food, she noticed with a silent sigh.
Asked one looked proudly at her and smiled brightly. “My mother always said that a boy should learn how to cook too because with those skills he would be able to get a wonderful woman as his wife. Every woman would love a man who could spoil her hungry stomach, she always said.”
“That’s true.” Pansy mumbled and nodded in agreement. She already loved the guy’s guts because of his food.
Draco laughed amused when he saw his friends’ bright faces. “Look you already caught both of them with your cooking skills.” he laughed and beamed at Harry and the rest of the table to show his excitement.
Neville had furrowed his brows deep in thoughts. Maybe he should learn how to cook too so Pansy would love to eat with him everyday?
“Yeah. Yeah! Enough off me now; I want to know how it comes that you three already knew each other when we met you today for the first time.” Ryan chirped happily and looked at them with a bright smile as if butter would not melt in his mouth. (1)
“Ha that’s funny you’re asking that. We met by pure accident again in your kitchen. We were friends in college but lost track of each other after and somehow . . . you know.” Draco laughed only a tiny bit nervous and hoped that no one had noticed.
No such luck for him because Harry was watching him strangely again.
“That’s right. After I was done, I went into different countries to check if everything I had learned was true. And you wouldn’t believe me but their really were a few discrepancies.” Hermione now almost huffed insulted. “I mean, how could they accept the responsibility for teaching those mistakes? I think even the people I spoke to were offended because of such ignorance!”
Ryan blinked confused and now looked strange at her too.
But Pansy patted his shoulder and shook his head. “That’s normal Ryan. Miss Brains wants to know everything and will check everything herself before she’s finally pleased . . . but alas that will never.”
“So true.” Draco sighed and looked pitying at the brunette young man with laughing eyes. “I remember shortly before my exams I needed her help and she almost beat all knowledge into my head.”
“And I was right with it! You passed!” she defended herself and waddled with her fork.
“True too.” laughed Pansy now and watched while the two friends battled over the table.
“Owe! I give up! I give up!” the blonde almost shouted and held his hands up with his flatware still in them and got a laugh out of everyone else. Irritated he watched them with furrowed brows. “Now what’s so funny?”
“You darling! You” Pansy huffed and held her stomach tightly. “You are so beautiful with such a clueless look and your flatware in your hands like a little pouting child!”
And pout he did! Right then and there!
“But our Draco there had become a good little writer didn’t he?” Pansy cooed soothingly with watery eyes.
“That’s right! I did!” he huffed again and put his nose into the air just to make sure they got it. “Now stop picking on me! Try someone else!” And they had the impudence to laugh again!
“I earn my money! Just that you know! While Miss Brains over there doesn’t! Your studies show themselves useless now!” he all but screamed with huffing breath. “Oh Draco gets angry now.” the black haired girl noticed and looked at her other friend.
“But he’s right. Say Hermione aren’t you still searching for a job? I think you should try your luck with Harry over there. With your talent for research and all.”
Hermione swallowed shortly. ‘Why didn’t they think before they say something?’ she thought and looked around in hope no one had heard the girl.
“Yes. I should try my luck.” she said and stretched her words silently while she glared angrily at her friends.
“Harry! Aren’t you currently searching for some clever girl to work things out?” Neville asked suddenly eager to help her, finding a job. When she got the job, she wouldn’t leave to check her studies again, right? Then Ryan would be happy too, right?
The asked raven-haired young man blinked overwhelmed. Something was odd here. First, they were laughing like mad, then fighting and now they were searching for a job. He looked strangely at his friend and finally nodded carefully. However, he was not sure if that had been very clever when he caught the glare, Hermione sends his way now.
“But I need to ask the chief first. Mhm . . . best would be you come around by Monday and ask him yourself.” he mentioned now thoughtful with his hand on his chin. She only hummed in response and looked at her plate again. She still was a bit hungry. At least she could think clearly now without a growling stomach.
“What are you cooking tomorrow?” she asked into the blue to change the subject. Draco lifted a brow in surprise but grinned at the cook nevertheless.
“I don’t know . . . I thought about calf-roast. Why?” he inquired in astonishment and blinked a few times.
“I planed to invite myself.” the brown haired woman laughed and shook her head in amusement.
“Now Ryan doesn’t think badly of her but she is thinking with her tummy again. That happens from time to time.” Pansy mentioned and earned herself a kick to her shin.
“Yeah and she didn’t like it when someone is talking about her thinking stomach.” the blonde grinned and winked at his friend.
“That just isn’t true! Do not listen to them! They only wanted to get hit on their heads!” Hermione cried out in try to defend herself. After all, it was not her fault that she was hungry all the time.
“Awe . . . don’t be mortified Miss Hazelnut. It’s quite cute.” Draco sniggered and started to laugh when she pouted and would not look at him again . . . for at least 5 minutes.
“He’s right. It’s quite cute.” Harry laughed and got a death glare from Ryan. Huh . . . seemed he was not the only one already falling.
Hermione knitted her brows. That definitely was not the direction she had wanted their talk to go. Fist they were trying to get her a job . . . these two idiots . . . and now they were laughing about her being hungry all the time! World just was not right!
“Do you want me to help you clean up?” Neville asked in his shy voice and everyone was looking at him with gentle smiles. This young man was too sweet for his own good. ‘Good thing that I’m looking after him.’ Pansy smirked playfully at him and winked just to see him blush slightly.
“No, no! We’re doing the cleaning. You three go and get yourself a seat in the living room.” Draco said and looked pointy at Hermione and Pansy.
Both of his friends suddenly were very busy with three men, which they tried to push out of the door.
Draco almost giggled softly when he saw the surprised and confused faces of the three men and almost missed Pansy’s words when she pushed them onto the rich couch in the living room.
“So now be good little boys and stay here while we’re doing the sink!”
Laughing he shook his head, looked at the table and almost backed away in shock. Now that nobody was sitting on it, it looked like a battlefield.
“What is it?” Hermione asked suddenly right behind him. Startled he whirled around and saw Pansy enter the kitchen. “Make sure that they don’t listen on us.” he then only nodded with a stony face. Hermione nodded and tipped the door softly two times. One tip to lock the door and one to silence the room completely.
“Is it just a coincidence?” the blonde wanted to know and looked sharply at his friends. “I think it is but you can’t be sure with Blaise as our boss.” the brown haired girl shrugged her shoulders.
“But why would he push us together all of the sudden?” Pansy replied silently.
“Those two are your charges since the beginning?”
Both women nodded but looked at him with lifted brows.
“Do you think Ariel knew that the three of them were going to be friends?” he asked again but this time with a lost expression on his face. “Maybe. It would be just like him, don’t you think? After all, he picked our charges, all of them.” Hermione mentioned and shrugged her shoulders.
“I don’t want to clean.” Pansy whined when her eyes caught sight of the table. She was shocked that it could look so messy with no person at it. At home, everything really was easier.
“Neither do I.” Draco moaned silently and shook his head.
Then Pansy snapped with her fingers and suddenly everything was clean but wet and waited in the sink unit to be dried.
When Hermione snapped with her fingers all kitchenware was dry and neatly piled on the kitchen table.
Draco snapped his own fingers and motioned softly towards the cupboard where the doors flew open and the cleaned ware was back were it belonged.
“What now? Are we working together or try our luck on our own?” Pansy asked and tucked a strand of her black hair back behind her ear.
“Sometimes but not all the time. I think that would be the best. If someone needs help, he gets it and . . . you know what I mean.” Hermione approved thoughtfully and knitted her brows softly.
“That would be the best.” Pansy repeated and looked at Draco for his agreement.
“Mhm . . . maybe I should talk to Blaise.” he replied and nodded his head softly. “Hadn’t Ryan said something about a cake? I’d like to have some sweets now.”
Laughing the girls opened the door and marched out. “Now tell me, who’s the hungry one of us?” Hermione giggled and looked at the three men in their easy chairs sound asleep.
“Pansy had you . . . ?” she asked stunned and shook Ryan softly to wake him up.
“I most certainly didn’t.” the woman argued and thought about a way to wake Neville without to much work.
“How long do I have to wait for a piece of cake?” Draco whispered in Harry’s ear and smiled softly when the man bent his head towards him.
“Not long love.” The raven-haired one mumbled gently and nuzzled his face against the blonde’s own.
Pansy sighed touched and snickered softly. “Awe . . . you two are really sweet, you hear me? Really sweet.”
“Let them be and try to get Neville awake before he falls out of his seat.” Hermione giggled quietly, touched herself.
After all both of them knew, that Draco had a special bond with the emerald-eyed man.
A/N: I am sorry! It is a short chapter again and now I fear that all chapters will be that short . . . oh weh! o_o’
Whoa, that had been a difficult one! Sometimes I set here and tried to find out what they were talking about . . . and . . . you see. *sigh*
I am a bit freaked now because I was without internet for a whole month. Then I came home and had only a little time to post all my bad work before my sister pushed me away. Back then, I thought that it was not a big deal. I could spend my Monday in the net.
Then that fu . . . thing was not working! Now I am without internet again! *grumble*
A German proverb I looked after. I think the translation is a bit . . . strange because we talk about water and you talk about butter (no offence here, really. I did not mean to insult anyone. ~_~’)
