Chapter 2
The sun had risen several hours ago but on this particular Sunday morning Draco lay on his four poster bed, the curtains drawn tight; a wicked smirk adorned his lips. After potions class Friday Draco had stumbled upon a garnet and gold leather bound book which upon further inspection turned out to be the journal of one Harry Potter. Draco had slipped the book into his bag and hurried back to the Slytherin house. He had placed the book under his pillow and had forgotten about it until it hit the floor with a soft thud early this morning. Draco had been studying the cover very intently since he had yet to open it. A part of Draco knew he should find a way to get the book back to the Gryffindor, after all if his journal had been found he would hope someone would return it. A flitter of fear and excitement passed over Draco as he untied the gold ribbon that was the books only defense. He wondered if Harry had dark secrets hidden within the pages like Draco did.
“Hey Draco, are ya coming down to breakfast?” Blaize called out as Draco opened the cover of the book.
A soft growl reverberated through Draco’s throat, he shoved the book back under his pillow muttering under his breath. Draco pulled the curtains back and glared at Blaize, Crabb and Goyle.
“It’s a Sunday you moron, I am going to take my time and enjoy my morning so no I will not be joining you three imbeciles for breakfast. Draco swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up, the dark green and silver silk pants shifting slightly on his thin hips, the excess fabric pooling around his feet. Draco stretched slightly before grabbing the towel off the end of his four-poster and glaring at the three visitors.
“Do you three mind getting out of here!” Draco snapped at them.
Blaize, Crabb and Goyle jumped slightly and shook their heads bolting from the room, leaving Draco alone once again. He looked over his shoulder at his pillow and considered skipping the shower to find out what the books pages held. Draco willed his feet to carry him to the showers and pushed the journal to the recesses of his mind, he would give into temptation, later.

Harry sat at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall that night, he had barely touched his dinner but had taken to pushing it around his plate.
“Come on Harry you need to eat.” Hermione goaded. “Not eating isn’t going to make your journal appear.”
“Ya know she’s right mate. Come on have a bite of something. I’m sure it will turn up.” Ron offered between mouthfuls.
“I’m sorry guys I’m not in much of a mood to eat.” Harry said as he stood up and moved away from the table. “I’m gonna head down to the black lake, I’ll see you guys later.”
Harry walked slowly out of the Great Hall his head hung slightly. Draco smiled seeing the Gryffindor sulking without his journal. Draco stood up and made to leave behind the brunette., but his movement and thoughts were interrupted by the grating sound og crabs voice.
“Oy’ where ya going Draco?” Crabb asked with a mouth full of kidney pie, Goyle nodding slightly as he shoveled more food into his mouth than it was meant to hold.
“Away from you two blubbering idiots.” He said coolly as he moved to the door, wondering why he even bothered with them. Crabb and Goyle shrugged and returned to eating as pigs at a trough.
Harry walked out and sat on the banks of the Black Lake. He looked up at the sky and shook his head; life just wasn’t being fair to him. Draco followed Harry outside onto the grounds; he stopped a few feet away from Harry and watched the Gryffindor for what seemed like hours. The weight of the journal in his robes pocket pulled at Draco’s attention. He had not been able to leave it in the common room or even in his bed after he had begun to read it. All of the Gryffindor’s secrets poured off the pages and into Draco. There was so much more to the brunette that if anyone knew what he was really like he would fall from the pedestal that the magical world had put him upon at birth. Draco smirked as he ran his fingers over the worn leather cover; Draco would protect Harry’s secrets, as long as it served to his advantage and at the moment Draco’s advantage was to torture and rile Harry up and elicit a reaction. Smirking Draco walked closer to Harry singing the first few lines of a song that had been in Harry’s journal. Draco assumed that it was something that Harry had written because he had never heard it before. Draco had not been able to get the lyrics out of his head, they matched so perfectly to the feelings that he had towards a certain unmentionable brunette.
I hate feeling like this
I'm so tired of trying to fight this
I'm asleep and all I dream of
Is waking to you
Harry’s head snapped up and he stared wide eyed in horror at Draco as the realization of what he was singing hit him. Draco pretended not to see the look of shock and horror on Harry’s face as Draco walked past singing more of the song.
Tell me that you will listen
Your touch is what I'm missing
And the more I hide I realize
I'm slowly losing you
Harry stood shakily and gawked at Draco, The words from his journal sounded so beautiful when Draco sang them that Harry felt his chest tighten. If Draco was singing one of the songs Harry wrote, that meant he had seen the journal; that meant he knew, he paled. Harry shook his head in disbelief, he gathered what little courage he had and called out to Draco, he had to know if he had the journal.
“Hey, Malfoy!” His voice shook slightly.
“What do you want Potter?” Draco bit his lip to keep from smiling in delight as he heard Harry’s voice waver ever so slightly.
“Where... um... where did you hear that song?”
“Oh you liked that did you?” Draco asked baiting Harry, he’d done it so often that it was child’s play to taunt the brunette and Draco couldn’t help himself. “Well it just so happens that I found them written on some parchment in the Slytherin common room. Not that it’s any business of yours , Potter.” Draco bit off as he walked away, back towards the castle singing the next section of the song as he went, his voice fading into the night.
I don't wanna live
I don't wanna breathe
'les I feel you next to me
you take the pain I feel
waking up to you never felt so real
I don't wanna sleep
I don't wanna dream
'cause my dreams don't comfort me
The way you make me feel
Waking up to you never felt so real
As the sound of Draco’s voice faded away Harry sunk to his knees on the grass, tears pricking his eyes. If Draco had his journal before long he would know the truth in Harry’s heart and then the school and the whole of the Wizarding world would be privy to his secrets. Harry fell back and as he dropped to the bank of the black lake his heart sunk into his stomach and he cried for hours. By the time Harry could will himself to stand and begin the treck back to the Gryffindor common room the sun had vanished and the moon was casting a glittering shadow on the lake. The last verse of the song danced in Harry’s head and he felt even worse.
I hate living without you
Dead wrong to ever doubt you
But my demons lay in waiting
Tempting me away
Oh how I adore you
Oh how I thirst for you
Oh how I need you
As the portrait hold swung open Hermione and Ron turned to look, they had sat up waiting for Harry to return, and were beginning to get nervous. Harry climbed numbly into the common room, he walked to the stairs ascending to the boy’s dormitories oblivious to Ron and Hermione’s inquiring gazes. As soon as Harry was out of sight Ron turned to her, “What do you think happened?”
“Honestly? I don’t know. But whatever it was, it’s not good.” She said standing up. “We’ll just have to keep an eye on him and look for that journal whenever we can spare a moment.” Her eyes looked toward the boys dorm and her heart went out to Harry.
Ron nodded his head, “Well I’m going to bed, it’s bad enough were going to have to deal with Harry in his current state but we also get to listen to Snape bash Harry because he didn’t finish his essay.”
