Song: Bouncing Off the Walls - Sugarcult
Author’s Note: The specific lyric in this song “I threw away my reputation” is specifically directed towards Lucius. Enjoy!
Warm Saturdays in Winter
“Severus? Hellooo? Anybody home?” a chipper sweet voice rang through his ears while he stared off into space yet again. A hand was waving in front of his face and he could barely catch the glinting light off of the owners painted nails. Why girls constantly gobbed on one cosmetic concoction after another in various hues, would always, always be beyond him. Personally he thought the opposite sex looked much more prettier without all of that make up. It was nothing more than a deception towards what they really looked like. Although, that was just his opinion and the only female companion he kept (currently walking next to him) chastised him each and every time for this opinion. That’s how they were with each other anyway though. He’d never been able to tease some one in a friendly way, in confidence. Yet, Lily Evans was different. She was nothing like the others of her species. Girls confused Severus entirely. Funny thing was, the only true friend he had that also happened to be a female, could cause so much more mayhem than was worth; Severus didn’t care.
He smirked slightly to himself as he imagined the look on James Potter’s face if he ever figured out who his long time conquests’ best friend was. Even if the image would be priceless, he’d be faced with worse consequences for the rest of his existence. He didn’t see why the Pothead always chased after her. She was a sweet, intelligent and kind woman. Completely out of Potter’s league yet, no matter how forcefully Lily stated that she didn’t like him; Severus knew she secretly had fallen for him years ago. Oh if only Potter knew..
“Yes Lily?” He asked a bit more calmly than usual for him, which was never. He tore his eyes away from where he’d been zoning out at and gave her his fully complete attention.
“Oh nothing, I was just asking you what I would look better in. A pink lace thong, or red.” she said smoothly, bursting out in laughter at the horrified look on Severus’ face as he choked on the pumpkin juice he’d been drinking a second ago.
“Oh I’m joking Severus,” She said through carefree chuckles as he scowled at her, “just a little attention test is all. What were you staring at?”
“Nothing Lily and you have my attention.” He said more quickly than he’d meant to and turned his face away from her so he could banish the pink tinge that had come to his face. She wouldn’t accept his answer but hopefully she wouldn’t press him. Lately, Severus had been a lot more unfocused than usual. That moment he’d had, or thought he’d had, in the common room had been toying with his mind. He still couldn’t come up with a logical explanation for Lucius looking at him like that. Sure it was just a look, a normal human reaction to noise out of curiosity yet, somehow the young male didn’t think that was the case with Lucius. He was like a cat in every way. He didn’t react to sudden noises.
Lily stared at him with disbelief etched all over her face before she decided to drop it..for now. “Alright Sev, whatever you say. Now, will you please tell me the difference between a bezoar in a boil curing potion than just using a dragon scale?”
Severus smirked at this question, she was by far the best student in potions (besides himself that is) and excelled at everything she made. There was a reason they were always lab partners in potions class. “Easy, the bezoar would dilute it way too much to where as the dragon scales would preserve it. It’s what makes the potion work.” He explained as if he was explaining why two plus two equaled out to four. She rolled her eyes at his tone and he couldn’t help but smile. She was perhaps, the only living soul that got to see him smile.
“You have such a nice smile Severus, I don’t know why you don’t do it more often.” This was something Lily told him every single time she caught him smiling. He would never understand why she said such a thing about him yet, he appreciated it none the less. They continued to walk in silence for awhile, her comment always making him a little uncomfortable. But, walking in silence was a regular thing for them. It was just another aspect about the Gryffindor that made her a perfect companion, considering she liked silence like he did. Maybe not as much, but still. It was something.
Turning to look at the red head, he noticed for the first time that she had freckles dotting across her cheeks and nose. It fascinated him to see and made him wonder if he had freckles himself. Probably not. With his new thoughts, Severus looked around while they continued to walk around the Campus grounds, the lake a good several yards away where a bunch of rowdy boys played and to his shock he noticed, Slytherin boys. He’d never before seen some one from his own house act like, well, a bunch of Gryffindors. He had to shake himself out of his shock much to Lily’s amusement.
“It’s just not..well, normal.” He muttered as a quiet explanation, making her burst out in another set of laughter.
“Sev, They’re boys.” She said as if that should be explanation enough and sighed when he continued to give her a so? expression. “Speaking of boys..”
Oh Shit..Severus thought as he was suddenly alarmed by Lily’s opening line. The next thing she would say was bound to be by all means, not good at all.
“Are you ever going to do anything about, you know who?”
‘Voldemort?” He said as a smart ass response, earning gasps from over hearers and a slap on the arm from Lily. It made Severus smirk, he would never dare joke like that with anyone else. Especially not from his own house as it was common knowledge that most Slytherin students would become the new followers of He Who Must Not Be Named. Severus’ family was not on that league, nor would he ever be. If only he knew.
“No you smart ass.” She chastised him while she rolled her vibrant green eyes, “I’m talking about your..oh how many years has it been Severus- five year crush.”
That made the young male turn away from her as his face lit up again as if he had a sun burn. But that would have been difficult as it was the middle of winter. This was a topic Lily tried to get him to talk about a lot, what ever it was with her and gossiping about crushes was again, beyond him. It wasn’t something he easily liked to talk about. Unfortunately, she had forced it out of him from prying for months none stop, before he admitted to having the biggest crush on one certain Slytherin. Yet, this confession had only been last year and it had fueled her estrogen filled head with wanting to know more.
“Lily, have you ever considered that not every male residing here is as sick as I am when it comes to sexual tendencies towards the same gender?” He asked exasperated, having said this very sentence so many times he could now repeat it without effort. And just like every other time, she would fix him with a scowl he was sure she’d been personally tutored to learn by McGonagall and say;
“Severus Snape..There is nothing wrong with being gay. Lots of guys here are..Remus and Sirius are…” She paused to give him another stern look when he rolled his eyes at the mention of one of the Goldens.. “And, I’ve heard a thing or two about Lucius..”
That last piece of information is what really caught his attention..There was no way that he would allow himself to believe that. Even if for a second he wondered if it was true. To do so would be ludicrous and could really put his life in jeopardy. He knew something went on behind closed doors of the Slytherin dungeons. It was like some sort of right of passage he himself had been skipped on. He wasn’t exactly scornful towards that fact either, Merlin only knew what happened behind said doors. He grimaced at the thought.
“Oh Sev I know that look..But you really, really should either get over him..or make a move.” God the red head could really be infuriating some times. He had no desire to do anything about it and honestly, what was there to get over? He was about to tell her this very thought when something caught his eye just past Lily. Oh no.. Severus thought to himself and the look of fear must have been great enough that Lily looked to her right to see what had made him respond like this. Except, when she looked back to him, her features had twisted into a sly smirk. Hey, he’d taught her to smirk like that, she was NOT allowed to smirk at him like that.
His eyes widened when he realized what her look must mean, “Lily you wouldn’t..” He warned with a slight fearful pitch to his tone.
Too late, before he could convince her otherwise, she said loud enough for the approaching figure to hear, “I’ll see you later Severus..Thanks for the quick tutor session..” And before he could fully fix her with an enraged and yet horrified look, she whipped around on her heal and fled. Oh how he wanted to shout a string of obscene profanities at his friend for putting him in this situation. He knew how much Lily Evans liked to play match maker, but honestly, she really had no idea that these were dangerous grounds to be playing on.
Looking up, Severus watched as the handsome Malfoy neared him gracefully; a small and sly smile playing across his lips as he found his prey helpless and alone. Really alone as there were no other students around. Turning, he tried to leave quickly before Lucius could say anything to him but he found a hand on his shoulder, stopping him from leaving.
Taking a deep breath, Severus faced his worst nightmare: his crush.
“Severus, I’m glad I caught up to you.”
“Y-you are?” Dammit, Severus why are you stuttering you blundering idiot!?
His stutter did not go unnoticed by his new company as the older Slytherin’s smile widened in amusement while he sized the younger up; taking in his school robes and water bottle that was half filled with pumpkin juice, to finally the look on his face. “Do I make you nervous Severus? If it’s alright for me to address you that way.”
Lucius asked calmly, his voice smooth as silk while the hand that had stopped him earlier fell to his side. Slytherins were all about formality and rank. Lucius was most definitely higher in rank than Severus so formalities weren’t really a question.
“No, and you m-may call me Severus.” He said while each word was carefully measured, though it didn’t stop from his voice cracking only slightly just once. Yet, it was enough as Malfoy’s smile filled out complete as he looked around him..as if checking to see if they were alone.
“Come take a walk with me.” He then said and directed Severus in the direction him and Lily had been going earlier. It wasn’t really a question but more of an order and he wasn’t really sure if that was just from years of being around Slytherins or if Lucius really was ordering him. Either way, he was being directed to the side of the castle, out of sight, whether he wanted to or not. The fact that they would be out of sight from all passersby and anyone who happened to look out a window slightly unsettled the young male. Even if Lucius was aristocratic and regal, he was sure he wouldn’t be above torture..That thought alone unsettled Severus even more.
Although, he couldn’t help but watch the male from out the corner of his eye as the sun glinted off of his platinum hair and sparkled in his blue gray eyes. The Slytherin’s heart started pounding hard against his rib cage and threatened to break the bone. He was sure Lucius could hear his heart throbbing while being this close to the object of his desires. And unless he got a grip of himself soon, he would probably do something to betray his innermost feelings; dooming him surely.
Finally their stroll came to an end as Lucius basically backed him up against the side of the castle, placing his hands on either side of Severus; he was trapped. All of a sudden the mood changed from light to an intense interrogation and of coarse Lucius had to have noticed something, he thought as he fiercely swore inside his head. Said boy leaned forward so that they were on eye level and locked orbs with him. Severus wanted nothing more than to look away, nothing like how he imagined he’d feel if he ever got to lock gazes with the sixth year. He could feel himself recoiling into himself in an instinct-like reaction.
“What’s wrong with me.” Was all the intimidating male said to him, making Severus blink for a few moments before he erupted in small nervous laughter.
“W-what?” Was all he could ask while Lucius remained utterly silent and kept his stern posture, before he then repeated the question, clearly not amused by his laughter. He didn’t blame him really, he would have been rather annoyed himself.
“I asked you what is wrong with me. You are constantly staring at me Severus..” He stated bluntly, making the later sober up completely and fix him with a look of fear. Shit, was all he could think to himself, his head was too struck by fear to process anything other than an indecency. So he had noticed and to think, he hadn’t even had enough time to write out his will..Not that he had anything to give to anyone. Or anyone to give it to for that matter.
Pushing himself off of the concrete castle wall, Severus watched as Lucius paced in front of him. A scowl etched so deep into his smooth fair skin that the fifth year didn’t dare allow himself to think how fetching he looked. There was more to Lucius other than his family’s wealth and status with the Dark Lord that made him someone to fear. He was unreadable. No matter what situation was presented, Lucius Malfoy was harder to read than Braille to someone with no sense of sensation. He continued to pace and with each passing moment Severus was more unnerved by the fact that he didn’t know how the male was going to react next. At least he’d be able to prepare himself if he knew he was about to be hit physically or magically. And how exactly was he supposed to react? Severus had no idea what answer he should give Lucius. Usually he was able to give a smooth answer without batting an eyelash. Yet now- now he was left without speech or thought.
Suddenly Lucius stopped in his tracks to fix the younger boy with another unreadable look. “Well?” He softly demanded, the frustration he seemed to have diminishing gradually.
Severus looked down at his feet, hating that the boy reduced him to such a degree as he thought over his impending words. He had to choose them carefully lest he say the exact wrong thing. But to do so, the Slytherin quickly evaluated his life. He had no friends other than Lily and even that was done in somewhat secret. He was constantly ridiculed by even his own housemates. His father had been an arrogant drunk and abandoned his mother with a young child after years of abuse. His own mother couldn’t look him in the eye, always telling him he reminded her of his father. What more did he have to lose? Absolutely nothing, so, Severus decided on the truth..Well, at least a condensed version of the truth.
Licking his dry lips, the male brought his gaze bravely to level with Lucius’ waiting one. “It’s hard not to.” He then said and it wasn’t really a lie. Nor was it entirely the truth and apparently it was the right one because he didn’t strike him or chastise him in any way. In fact, he took a moment to collect his words while he searched Severus’ expression. For a moment he had the suspicion that the sixth year prefect could use Occlumency. Like Severus himself, Lucius was well advanced in magic. Perhaps that had something to do with the families they grew up in.
This time when he spoke, the older boy chose his words slowly, “Explain yourself Severus. Do I disgust you?” He asked while he advanced on him until they were only inches apart. It was hard not to notice just how much taller Malfoy was when he stood this closely to him. His gaze was searching the fifth year’s intently, trying to read his mind. Suddenly he understood why Lucius got the information he wanted exactly when he wanted it. His searching gaze was both intimidating and unsettling. And just as quickly as he’d got right down to matters, his expression changed again. Except this time Severus didn’t have to wonder what the other male was thinking. So long Severus..he thought sarcastically to himself as Lucius’ face changed to one of pure realization. He was, for lack of a better word, fucked.
“No..That’s not it is it Severus..” He said slowly, still searching the dark orbs that he owned. But instead of continuing on, Lucius’ adorned his patented smug smile and laughed. Now he could handle any kind of remark or physical injury, but laughter was the one thing that set the fifteen year old wizard off. A look of pure hatred covered his true feelings while he curled his lip as if a bitter taste was in his mouth and spat out his next words snidely, “What!..Go ahead Malfoy. Spare me the arrogant banter and just get to the fucking chase.”
His words sobered the man as Lucius let said words roll off of him to simply smirk down at Severus. Again, his look was unreadable and it extinguished some of his anger he held.
“Severus Snape..I’ve never seen you with a woman. Although these school girls hardly qualify as woman.” He began, “You spend your free time peering over at me atop a book-” Malfoy gestured to the book Severus held in his hand and from instinct, the young Slytherin hid it further behind his robes.
“To anyone else this would be dangerous grounds. But it’s alright Severus.. You can admit it to me.” He said softly, closing the distance between them and it was then that the younger male realized that the later held his wrist firmly; there would be no way for him to escape. It was clear now that Lucius intended to get the answer he already knew Severus would give..Just not so easily.
Scowling, the younger filled his tongue with venom, “Tell you what Malfoy. That you’re a complete arrogant, air headed, aristocratic ass?” in hopes of throwing him off. He’d rather take a hex or a slap than have his constant succubus figure out his inner turmoil. Thankfully, for a moment Lucius’ lip curled into a sneer when the insult had been thrown at him and even less thankfully, its disappeared. Instead, said aristocrat leaned forward and for a moment Severus hesitated; being rooted to the spot when the Prefect’s next words whispered against his ear.
“You fancy me Severus.”
The silence that washed over them held all truth to it. He couldn’t force himself out of his petrified state to snap a retort..Lucius had won and he knew it.
Pulling back, Malfoy’s grin had reattached itself to his perfectly plush lips. The words that would come next scared Severus more than the creatures residing in the Forbidden Forest. Yet he said nothing. Instead, Lucius released his grip of his skinny wrist and stepped back; triumphant.
“No one cares what you read Severus, you don’t have to hide the cover.” He then said casually, turning on his heal and beginning to leave. Just at the corner of the castle a few feet away, Lucius turned and fixed Severus with a look he could only describe as lust, yet that in itself was highly ludicrous. “I’ll see you around.” And then he was out of sight.
Severus stayed there where he was, rooted to the ground and sticking to the wall behind him like glue. His chest was rising and falling as he heaved, his heart racing and his chest clenching. Perhaps he was having a heart attack. No, he wouldn’t be that lucky. Whatever Lucius Malfoy meant by seeing him around, it surely wasn’t going to be good. He had to find Lily.

Author’s Note: Hey guys! Hope you liked this chapter. It’s still a slow start but I think it really sets the tension in and sets it up for the next chapter. This is the first time I’ve done a Severus/Lucius slash so be kind. I figured, Lucius and Severus are still young so they haven’t quite grown into the men as we know them today. And just off the record, I cant help but picture a young Lucius looking something like Legalos (Orlando bloom) from Lord of the rings and a young Severus as look like Billy Martin from Good Charlotte. -shrugs- just sharing what I picture. Chapter 3 coming up shortly and a Merry Christmas to you all!!! Personally I think it sort of rushed but, tell me what you think J
I might revise it later if I get enough comments.
