When I awoke the next morning I was alone. I wasn't worried; Malfoy had no where to go. That, and he wanted revenge. He was the type that could be very patient if it meant he would get what he wanted in the end. Burying my head in my pillow, I tried not to remember how I had undressed him, and the flash of his bare arse. With my luck, he was telling everyone how I came on to him and tried to molest him.
"Is he getting to you already?" Hermione asked as she came into the room and sat down next to me.
"No, it's not that."
"Then what is it, Harry?"
"Don't you ever get the feeling that if you have to stay indoors just one more day you'll crawl right out of your skin? You can't understand the frustration I feel at everyone but me making decisions about my life. I'm expected to take out Voldemort when and where they say, and Merlin forbid I should ask questions. All I have to say is, those days are numbered. I can't take it any more."
Hugging me, Hermione pleaded, "Please don't do anything rash."
"I won't do anything drastic for now, but if things don't change..." A noise near the door drew our attention, and we looked around to see Malfoy standing there looking at us.
"Hi, Draco. We were about to go downstairs and get some breakfast. Have you eaten yet?" Hermione asked.
He didn't respond to her question. I led the way downstairs, checking once to see if he was behind us, and he was.
"Good morning," said Tonks as we walked in.
"Umph," Ron greeted us, his mouth full.
"There's porridge if you want it," Tonks offered.
"Hermione, do you want some?" I asked.
"Yes, thanks, Harry."
I scooped porridge into three bowls, putting berries in both mine and Hermione's. I didn't know if Malfoy liked them, so I left his plain. No reply came when I set the bowl down in front of him. I wondered if he was in pain. I needed to talk to Snape about a salve.
"Hey, Tonks, do you know if Snape is stopping by later?"
"I think there's a meeting tonight."
"Good." I could kill two birds with one stone. "Is Sirius up yet?"
"I think he's in the drawing room."
Malfoy needed more clothes, and I wanted to give him a heads-up about tonight's meeting, so I headed down to the drawing room and found Sirius where Tonks had said he would be. Closing and warding the door, I took a seat. I wouldn't have put it past Dumbledore to have the house chock-full of listening devices.
One of the many things I enjoyed about Sirius was his ability to just be. Ron would be fidgeting in two minutes, and Hermione would only stay quiet as long as she had a book to bury her nose in.
"I'm tired of living my life like this, Sirius. I want in on the missions. I'm not saying I want in on every one of them, or even the most dangerous ones, only that, if they want my help in the future, there has to be some inclusion now. I'm tired of listening to my elders. It's my life and I'm of age now. When we meet tonight, I'll be telling everyone of my ultimatum."
"Harry, I understand your frustration, and I think a lot of that could be alleviated by us telling you what's going on. You have to realize they're not telling me much, either. Probably because they know I'd tell you. You know I'll support you in anything."
I nodded. "Malfoy is going to need clothes. Do you know if Snape is bringing any of his things?"
"I don't know. He can borrow some of my clothes."
I returned to my room to get dressed. Malfoy was sitting on my bed.
"Hey, Sirius is getting you some clothes," I told him. "In about an hour we have a lesson with Tonks. You're welcome to join us. If not, you can sleep or get something from the library." I looked at him, hoping he would say something, but he didn't.
"Okay, I'm going to go brush my teeth."
It was going to be a long couple of months if he didn't talk. I should be more sensitive; he'd just lost his parents. Then again, when had he ever been sensitive about my not having any? But I stopped myself; I couldn't think like that. As long as he didn't provoke me, I would treat him civilly. I ran a hand along my jaw and decided not to shave. Sirius always looked a little dangerous when he didn't shave.
Draco was still sitting on my bed when I walked out of the bathroom.
"Does this mean you're coming with me to our lesson?" He nodded.
I pulled on work-out clothes, not bothering to be shy about changing in front of someone who had tormented me. I'd seen just about everything of him, after all. I threw him an extra set of sweats. "Here, put these on."
When we walked into the room we used for working out, Ron glared. I was going to have to have a talk with him; Malfoy wasn't going away in the foreseeable future. Ron needed to accept that, and as long as Malfoy wasn't provoking him, he would do best just to ignore him.
"Oh good, you brought Malfoy. We'll have an even number now. Tonks has been having to stand in, and it makes it hard for her to observe." Malfoy didn't respond to Hermione, but he did relax his shoulders somewhat.
Before Ron could say anything, Tonks walked in. "For the first half of the lesson we'll be working on maintaining shields again, and for the second I'll teach methods for shattering them. Oh, perfect," she added when she noticed Malfoy, "now we have even numbers."
I went to stand in front of Malfoy so Ron couldn't partner with him. The last thing Malfoy needed was for Ron to unleash seven years of pent-up aggression—not that Malfoy didn't deserve it, but to do so now would be a mistake. I wondered if he would be able to keep up with us. Perhaps he had been educated by Death Eaters in the Dark Arts.
"Harry, Hermione, you'll be trying to penetrate your partners' shields."
When I felt the force of Malfoy's shield, I attacked. I had done some studying on shields, and I was excited to try something new. The fact that I'd get to use it on Malfoy just made it all the sweeter. I made sure to put on a good show of trying to dismantle his shield before I pulled back. I got a confused look from him, but I just smiled. I cleared my mind and harnessed my magic, and with a lift of my hand I sent it hurtling towards Malfoy. I watched as not only his shield was demolished but he went flying back into the wall. When I rushed over to him, he was unconscious.
"Malfoy—Malfoy!" I tapped the side of his face.
Tonks elbowed me out of the way. "Draco?" She quickly Ennervated him.
"Ow." His hand came away bloody from the back of his head.
"Malfoy, I'm really sorry. I didn't know that would happen." Well, I had known he'd probably get knocked off his feet. He held his hand out and I grasped it, pulling him up.
"Harry, I think you should take Draco downstairs to Molly. We need to make sure he doesn't have a concussion."
"Yeah, okay." I glanced at my friends before I left the room. Ron gave me an approving smile; Hermione looked stunned and pensive.
I followed him anxiously down the stairs. I hoped Tonks didn't think I'd done this on purpose. Mrs. Weasley wasn't in the kitchen when we walked in. I was about to go look for her when Malfoy stopped me. He was looking at me almost reverently. I could see the blue flecks in his eyes, he was so close. My breathing increased almost without my being aware of it. He brought his hand up, and I thought he was going to touch my face, but instead he gripped my shoulder. I could feel the heat of his body.
"You have to teach me! You accessed your magical core, harnessed your power. It was amazing!" His voice was almost breathy.
Just then Mrs. Weasley walked in the door and narrowed her eyes. "Tonks said Draco might have a concussion."
Malfoy released me and I backed away quickly. Luckily for me Molly thought she'd walked in on us fighting, not.... I'm not sure what had been going on. I inched towards the door; Malfoy was eyeing me. It was unnerving.
Mrs. Weasley tutted. "You boys are too rough with each other. He doesn't have a concussion, but he has a wicked bump, and no doubt a horrible headache."
Malfoy gave her a pitiful look, and Mrs. Weasley fell for it. "I'll go get you a potion. Stay right here." When she had left, he turned his eyes on me.
"Well?"
"I-I'm not sure I can teach you how to do it. I just kept trying until I could do it."
"Will you at least try?" He was looking at me so intensely, I couldn't help but fidget.
"Yeah, okay."
He relaxed. "Anyone ever told you that you need to learn control?"
"I told you—I didn't know that would happen!"
"I knew your nice act couldn't last forever. Professor Snape always said you'd lose it one day."
Now that he was talking, I was starting to wish he was mute again. The last thing I wanted was a miniature Snape telling me I lacked control, that I was useless and generally a waste of space. I just wanted to get away from him. "I'm going back to the lesson. You should probably go lie down." I didn't wait for a response but left immediately.
Once I was back upstairs I threw myself into the lesson. This was my favorite part of the day; I was preparing to fight, and I took it very seriously. I wasn't going to sit around twiddling my thumbs and waiting for others to decide what I should do. For the rest of the lesson I made sure to hold back. I was quite smug at seeing Hermione's frowning looks when I did better than she did. She never did like being shown up.
After we were done Ron cornered me. Clapping me on the back, he congratulated me. "Good job, mate. I almost applauded you when you sent Malfoy flying."
Hermione hit Ron. "Harry, could have seriously hurt him. You really need to learn to control your magical output, Harry. Not to mention, do you know the side effects of tapping into your magical core?"
I didn't know. I hadn't read that part during my research. I wasn't about to admit it, though. "It's not like I'll be doing it often. I only wanted to see if I could access it."
I wanted to escape Ron's glee and Hermione's lecturing. Going back to my room would mean I would run into Malfoy, but it was the only place that was private. I didn't look at him when I walked into my bedroom. I gathered some clothes and went into the bathroom and turned on the shower. The hot water felt good, and I slowly relaxed. As I was washing, my hand brushed my cock, and it twitched appreciatively. It had been a while since I'd wanked. I was apprehensive about doing it with Malfoy in the next room, but after another slide of my hand, I didn't care.
Grasping my cock, I gave it a couple of languid strokes. I brought my other hand down to cup my balls. A slow pass of my finger across my perineum made me gasp. I alternated between caressing my perineum and rolling my balls. On every third stroke I twisted my wrist, something I'd learned from Ginny. I imagined sucking her breasts, kissing the spot on her neck that made her moan. I pictured her naked, and me licking and caressing every inch of her. When I got to her bum I couldn't help the flash of Malfoy's arse that came to mind, and I came with a soft cry.
It took me a few minutes to catch my breath and finish cleaning up. I ignored the fact that I'd thought of Malfoy naked when I was wanking. I'd been close enough to coming that it didn't matter if I involuntarily thought of him. Grabbing my towel from where I'd tossed it over the rail, I pulled the curtain to the side. My heart gave a startled jolt when I saw Malfoy leaning against the counter, and I felt myself flush. How long has he been standing there? I'm definitely making sure I lock the door next time. I decided the best defense was an offense.
"What's wrong with you? Couldn't you tell I was taking a shower?"
"Hm, maybe I hit my head harder than I thought. Then again, I would say you were doing more than just taking a shower."
I wanted to punch the smirk off his face. "So what? I thought I was alone. How was I supposed to know you were a creeper?"
He looked as if he was about to argue with me, but like the Slytherin he was, he changed tactics. "What do you think about when you touch yourself, Harry?"
I was disconcerted. What game was he playing? His attitude had gone from disconnected to intense, to creepy bathroom stalker. "Will you leave so I can get dressed?"
He looked me over and smiled. "Of course."
As soon as he was gone, I locked the door. I heard him chuckle. As I got dressed I told myself I had only imagined the appraising look Malfoy gave me. Did he think because I undressed him that now I wanted him? Was I giving him a signal? Ugh, I didn't have time for this. The meeting would be starting in a couple of hours.
Malfoy wasn't there when I left the bathroom. I went in search of Ron and Hermione. They were in the library, playing chess.
"I'm telling you, Hermione, you can't move your king's-side castle there."
"Why not? It makes sense to move him to E4."
"Yes, it does, but that's an illegal move. Harry, tell her she can't move her castle there."
Leaning over Hermione's chair, I whispered, "A better move would be to move a knight to D5. Then you can box in his queen and checkmate him."
"Harry! That's not what I wanted you to tell her."
"Losing helps build character, Ron," Hermione reminded him cheekily.
I wanted to ask Hermione about Malfoy's strange behavior. Was I taking things out of context? I seriously needed to stop worrying about him. I was becoming obsessive. "Is Snape here yet?"
Both of them looked at me like I'd just told them I was really Voldemort, Polyjuiced to look like me. "He might have turned up. Why do you want to find Snape?" Ron looked alarmed.
"I just need to ask him something." Hermione looked ready to ask me what that was, but Sirius walked in just then and told us dinner was ready.
While I ate I kept an eye on the door. Malfoy sat across from me, and I did my best not to make eye contact with him. His foot hit mine once, and I moved mine away. I didn't want to start a kicking war.
Suddenly Snape walked in, in his customary swirl of robes. He glanced at Draco and then caught my eye. It was now or never.
"Sir, may I have a word with you?"
Snape looked surprised for a moment, then he sneered. "This should be enlightening."
I led him into the library. After I had locked and warded the door—I had no doubt that the twins were even now trying to break my wards—I said, "I'm worried about Malfoy."
I could tell Snape was going to make a snide comment about my concern, but I didn't give him a chance. "He's been acting strangely. Also, he's going to need a salve for scars."
Snape was quiet. I knew it was because he was thinking. "Are the scars a product of self-infliction?"
"No. He'd been whipped the night he showed up here. I didn't notice them until I—" I didn't want to tell him I had undressed Malfoy. "I healed them, but he still has scars all over his body," I hurried on.
"Describe his strange behavior you mentioned."
I could feel my face heat and ran a hand through my hair. I knew he was reading me, and I hated to give him more ammunition. "He hasn't talked since you brought him here, and then after our training session he became almost fanatical about his request for me to teach him how to access his magical core. Since then he's been…watching me. Asking weird questions."
"Draco has always been attracted to power. I must say, it's impressive that you've been able to tap into your magic. One could understand why a person who just lost his parents and feels powerless would find the lure of being able to exponentially increase his magic very enticing. The fact that he might be trying to be…friendly...never occurred to you?"
Snape was probably right, Malfoy was trying to become my friend, but only because he wanted something from me. It was a relief to think he hadn't been coming on to me. I thought of something. "Is he stable enough for me to teach him how to harness his magic?"
"I think-it would do him good to have something to focus on. Should his behavior become more abnormal, inform me and I will take care of it."
"Thank you, sir." Before I unwarded the door, I asked, "If you wouldn't mind, Professor, could you not tell Dumbledore what we talked about?"
Snape looked faintly curious. "Why do you wish to keep it a secret?"
"For all his telling me that everything thing he does is in my best interest, I know the man is a liar. It will irritate him endlessly if he thinks you and I are forming a bond." I smile evilly, and the corner of Snape's mouth twitched.
When we returned to the kitchen, everyone was gathered. I made sure my face was passive, so as to give nothing away. Dumbledore's eyes darted back and forth between me and Snape. I took my seat next to Malfoy and left the one next to Kingsley for Snape.
"Now that Severus and Harry have joined us, we can begin."
I sat quietly throughout the meeting, and just when it was about to break up, I stood. "I have something I want to say."
A/N: I won't normally update so quickly, but I felt that the second chapter needed to be posted so the first one could make more sense.
