SUMMARY: The BWL’d disappears; years later, Micah turns to Anita to save his pard and he brings with him a dark haired traumatized submissive named Cassius, whom is called ‘Lamb’ by most of the pard. The W.W. attempts to interfere...
EVENTUAL MAIN PAIRING: Asher/'Cassius'
It went without saying that the training of the boy that Chimera was brutal and devastating. The first two weeks, the quiet green eyed boy stayed in constant contact with his fellow leopards. Many of them had come to adore the soft spoken submissive with the ‘cute accent’ who had a different flavor to his scent than others. He became a kind of touch stone with other leopards, the one they went to when they needed an affectionate listener. In such a short time, he had become the heart of the Pard.
And then the first full moon happened.
It had gone well. The boy had adjusted quicker than normal to the shift and instincts, the freedom and abilities that being a wereleopard gave a new shifter. He had been a delight to play with those first few nights; cuddling with the stoic Merle, playing with the brash and loud Caleb, following the equally quiet Micah around like a shadow.
And a shadow he was. His silky black fur was so dark that only the barest of shadows of the perfect, lovely rosette pattern showed. The brilliant green eyes were tinged with yellow and had an amber yellow ring around the iris and pupil, making them even more powerful than they had been before.
The girls adored him; constantly petting and touching the boy with loving, caring caresses. Merle had made the comment that the boy would probably grow into a very handsome, if short, man. Micah had spent the rest of the day sighing deeply as if put upon. Despite the boys’ timidity, all of them could see the strength of the boy in his eyes. While it was most obvious that he was a submissive, he had a power that no one could understand or grasp quite yet. He seemed to be able to know things, to do things that seemed impossible or improbable. But even if it were obvious he was a submissive, he had a spirit that never seemed to die.
And everyone knew just how much they needed that.
However, just after the first full moon spent with the boy, who still hadn’t given them his name, Chimera had taken him in ‘for training’. Micah and Merle were unable to do much other than offer some tactile comfort to the boy, but strangely enough Chimera wasn’t offering the boy out to the were’s under his power.
It seemed he wanted the boy to himself.
It had been a month – a whole month before the Pard had seen the boy again. That meant that his second full moon had been spent in the private hell that was captivity with Chimera. It had been a gathering of the snakes, the wolves and the Pard. Chimera sat at in a plush chair, reigning as if a king, and at his feet in an open black silk robe was the boy. Merle had been struck the hardest by the scene of the glazed green eyes, the dazed and obviously high expression on the boy’s face. The older leopard had stood there, gritting his teeth as he heard a few of the wolves commenting about the pretty new toy that Chimera had.
He introduced the boy as ‘Cassius’, and had laughed a little darkly about how fitting that his little wraith had a name that was as empty and hollow as he was. The boy didn’t react except to continue laying his cheek on Chimera’s knee and stare unseeing at the gathered group. He didn’t flinch or make any acknowledgement of them, and barely reacted to the outside world at large – with the exception of Chimera.
It seemed as if his whole world seemingly revolved around the psychotic panwere.
A week later, Gina had heard screams from Chimera’s private quarters, the shrill sounds of terror and nonsense. Cassius babbled about bloody eyes and death, of magic and guilt. Immediately, she had run to Micah and Merle, however there was little they could do. They could only attempt to see the littlest leopard when opportunities presented themselves.
Micah was absolutely disgusted. Cassius was a child, a boy not yet 15, and the markings on Cassius’ flesh when they did see him spoke all too clearly of the activities that Chimera had him performing. The bite marks, the bruises and – once when one of the many silk robes had slipped – the welts and obvious markings of a brutal whipping were all obvious in just what Cassius was going through. All of them were fresh enough for them to know that Chimera was making use of Cassius often.
Despite his preoccupation with Cassius, Chimera didn’t let up his hold upon the Pard, upon the Pack and upon the snakes under his reign. He still forced his dominance and will on the Alphas, forcing them to do despicable acts upon the submissives and the people they were supposed to be protecting. The rapes, the beatings, the cruelty all continued.
So, Micah began making plans. Oh, he knew it would be a long time in coming. He wasn’t powerful enough yet, and certainly didn’t have enough allies in order to aid their cause. Despite the cruelty that Chimera enforced on them, the wolves were extremely hesitant to attempt to find aid; no one bothered with the snakes. His people were essentially killing themselves slowly by continuing to follow Chimera – however, none of them were strong enough to take action yet. Merle was growing older, and considering stepping down as leopard lionne which left a large gap in the hierarchy of the Pard.
He dreaded to think about what Caleb would do in any kind of leadership role, let alone any of the others.
In the end, all they could do was wait…and suffer.
“Merle…gather my cats.” The smooth rounded tones eased over the line with an oily quality; then again, maybe it was his own disgust with their ‘King’, and it was coloring his opinions.
“Yes sir.” His answer was quick and precise.
It made dealing with the madman easier.
It hadn’t been 15 minutes before all of the leopards that were under his care were kneeling or standing before Chimera. Most, however, were kneeling and supplicating themselves before him. After the greeting, and after Chimera challenged a few of the more ‘vocally displeased’ leopards, was when the Panwere called for Cassius.
It broke his heart to see the boy like that. Merle watched the boy practically crawl to Chimera, groveling like a beaten dog for scraps. He looked emaciated, gaunt and so thin that even at the distance they were from him, Merle could see the faint blue lines of the boy’s veins.
“I bring you a great gift, Merle. A token of my…appreciation of your training my pets.” Chimera said with a seemingly benign smile. “The wolves…have what they call a Vargamor, a human who has a talent with wolves. They can have many abilities, it seems, including precognition or other psychic phenomena.
“I give you your Nimir-Rishi.”
“Nimir-Rishi??” Merle dared to ask after a moment of silence.
“Yes. He dreams of future events. The…medication that we’ve discovered helps temper them and helps him to interpret them. There are other side effects, but none of them too terrible.” Chimera gently raised Cassius’ face with his hand under his chin, staring into glazed and slightly feverish green eyes. “It seems that our little Cassius had many talents before becoming one of my cats.”
Now, with an almost devout certainty, everyone was paying attention.
“It seems that our little Cassius was, at one time, a wizard.”
At the soft murmuring of this announcement, Chimera looked up and scowled at them all. When it became silent again, he continued, petting Cassius on the head as he spoke.
“He had many gifts, though it appears that in his community werewolves were the only lycanthropes that were known about, and they were heavily curtailed. He is the first wizard to have survived a feline infection and his magic has adapted to suit his new needs. So far, we have only seen a few of those new adaptations at work, however I expect many more to come.
“He is a prize worth protecting, isn’t he, Merle?” Dual colored eyes turned to stare at the leader of the Pard, and Merle nodded quickly without hesitation.
“He is. Will he be joining us for our next full moon?” Merle asked, at least attempting not to get himself and the others killed at that moment despite the rage that flickered through him at the sight of that monster’s fingers clenching greedily in thick black hair.
“Perhaps…if he behaves himself. For now, though, he stays with me.”
Far away, in a tower in a castle, sat an old man staring at small silver doo-dads and gizmos. Helpless fury washed over the wizened face as none of them moved – none of them even twitched. It was as if the magic that they were monitoring were absolutely gone. Which could not be the case, he reasoned as he reached up and stroked his long white beard in frustration. A boy that powerful couldn’t have died so quickly, not with the protections on that house. It was sheer nonsense to presume that the boy had simply run away – no, no, the boy was far into the grip of his path to just shirk it off to escape his loathsome Muggle family.
However, with the evidence being what it was, and with more and more owls coming from people in high places demanding answers, there was little he could do in the matter. He’d simply have to write the boy off…and begin training the other in his stead.
It was a pity…Harry Potter would have worked perfectly for his plans…
