So when the first day of school arrived and all of the students were parading through the large, double doors in front of the castle, Harry, hidden cleverly behind a suit of armor, snatched Hermione's arm and yanked her away from the crowd, "Shh!" He warned, putting a hand over her mouth to smother her yelp as he looked around to see if anyone had heard.
Hermione, upon seeing it was Harry, relaxed immediately and rolled her eyes and jerked her head away from his hand, "Harry! What on earth has gotten in to you? Why weren't you on the train?"
"Come with me." Harry led Hermione down to the dungeons to the quarters that he shared with Snape, because he knew that the man would be seated in the Great Hall for the Start of Term feast and Sorting.
Once they were seated Harry took a deep breath and then chuckled a bit at the look on Hermione's face, "Sorry about grabbing you up there, but I need to talk to someone and you're the only one who will understand."
Hermione nodded slowly, "First, tell me why you brought me down to the dungeons."
Harry licked his lips, "Because this is where I'll be living this school year.... with Snape."
The teenage witch's eyes grew round, "With Snape!"
Harry nodded, "Yes, but there's a reason. Over the summer I was doing some work for the Order and tracking a unicorn through the forest when I was bitten by a vampire." The Gryffindor stopped there to allow Hermione to soak up what he had said because he was sure that it would come as a shock.
Hermione blinked at Harry before the realization of his words hit, "You... You're .... A..."
"Vampire." Harry finished for her.
The woman jumped up and backed quickly away from Harry, "You're..... You're....." Hermione's fast had gone ghostly white as she put space between Harry and herself.
Harry stood, "A vampire." He said slowly again, finishing or Hermione, and wondering if she would be able to cope with the news as well as he had previously thought, "I'm still the same person, Hermione. It's not like I'm going to bite you or anything; Snape's been one for years and he's never bitten a student." Or at least he's never said as much.
Hermione stood for a long moment before gaining a little color back to her face, "How come you didn't write and tell me sooner, and why didn't you tell Ron?"
"Because I didn't want anyone to know. It's a dark and evil secret and I know the grief that magical creatures get from the media, look at what happened to Remus when people found out that he was a werewolf and teaching at Hogwarts." Harry said as he hung his head, "And with me being the all powerful Harry Potter, the Daily Prophet would have had a field day hearing that I was a vampire."
Hermione nodded, "So, how does being a vampire work... the blood part I mean." She asked, although she still maintained some distance from Harry.
"So far Snape has been bringing me blood, from animals, because he says that civilized vampires don't drink unknown human blood. Apparently, vampires take vampire mates so that they may drink of their blood, because vampires only need to drink fresh blood once a month. Besides that, we're perfectly normal, and we don't do silly things like burn to ask in the daylight, or turn into bats."
"So.. why did you tell me and not Ron?" Hermione wasn't stupid, she knew that Ron was Harry's best friend and that the two shared things and secrets that not even Hermione knew about.
Harry sighed, "Because I knew that Ron would freak completely, and that he'd probably never speak to me again, but I knew that you would approach it with a cool head and know more about the situation, and ... I hoped that you'd still be my friend. I need someone, 'Mione, to be my friend, to talk to besides Snape."
Hermione licked her lips, "And just how does Snape play into this picture?" It was no secret, the entire Wizarding World knew that it had been Snape who'd killed the famed Albus Dumbledore.
"Since he's a vampire and one of the Six in the Eternal House, he can help me make it in the vampirical world, and in exchange for his help he gets to teach here as Potions Master once again, and hopefully regain some of his former prestige." Harry explained, not minding one bit that Snape was only using him as leverage.
"Well, Harry, I can't say that it doesn't freak me out, because it does, but when I look at you, and see your eyes, I can tell that you are the same Harry who saved the world from Voldemort, and as long as I can see that, I'll remain by your side." Hermione took a step closer to Harry and hugged him.
Harry sighed and patted Hermione's back, "Thank you, 'Mione. You should be going now before Ron has a search party out for you."
Hermione grinned, "Yes, I suppose so. I'll see you in class tomorrow?"
"Yes, I'll be there."

"You weren't at the feast." Were the first words out of Severus' mouth as he walked through the dungeon door and found Harry lounging on the couch in front of the fire.
Harry didn't even look up as Snape took a seat in a wingback chair, "I needed to talk with Hermione. I told her my secret, about being a vampire.... I had to tell someone." He explained, remembering that Snape had warned him not to tell anyone, especially Ron and Hermione.
Snape sighed, "Well? How did she take it?" He remembered when he had told his friends....Well, friend actually. The only friend he had had... Lily Potter. She'd freaked and so he'd stopped associating with her, and that was when he became close friends with Lucius Malfoy.
"She took it... well I guess. She freaked out at first but then she came around and said that she'd be here for me and she wouldn't tell anybody." Harry said, still rather astonished that she hadn't abandoned him completely.
Snape humphed as if he didn't believe it either, "You should get dressed, I'm taking you to the House tonight."
Harry almost choked on his own spit, "To the H-House?" It wasn't exactly something that he looked forward to. While the adventurer inside him was curious about it, he wasn't exactly looking forward to being surrounded by a houseful of vampires.
Severus, who seemed to be able to see Harry's fear, barked out a short laugh, "Relax Potter, they won't bother you while I'm there. Besides, there are a few vampires within the House that would be looking for a mate that bares such a famous name." At this part Snape snickered openly at Harry.
"Ha. Ha. You're so amusing." Harry said, his voice dripping with sarcasm in a way that impressed even Snape.
"Well, go on, get changed so we can leave." Snape finally barked.

Harry sighed, his stomach twisting with nerves as he stepped out of his room, leather creaking softly as he moved, boots clacking dully on the stone floor, "Well, I'm ready, but I'm not looking forward to this." Harry warned as he ran his hands over the silver clasps on his long black coat, finding that if he wore a pair of sunglasses he'd be a mini-replica of The Matrix. "I feel like Keanu Reeves."
Snape raised an eyebrow, "Who?'
"Nevermind." Harry grumbled.
"Twit." Snape hissed before opening the door to the dungeon, "Let's go, we haven't got all night, I do have to have you back in time for classes tomorrow morning." Snape said as he waved for Harry to precede him from the room.
Harry walked by Snape with a sigh, noticing the heel on his boot caused him to equal Snape in height and this brought a smug little grin to which Snape merely rolled his eyes and locked the door on their way out. Stepping aside, Harry fell a little behind Snape so that he could follow the older man to wherever they were going, plus, he didn't want Severus to see how nervous he still was about to go the House.
When Snape led him outside into the fresh night air Harry sighed comfortingly, the night seemed to wrap around him like a comfortable cloak and he immediately felt himself begin to relax, he wasn't sure if this was his own feelings, or because of the vampire blood now in his veins.
Stepping just outside the gate, and then placed a hand on Harry's shoulder and the two apparated. When they arrived outside of a tall stone gate, Harry was surprised to find that the House wasn't a grand castle or such, but a large, intricately detailed Victorian style house with high, sloping roofs that hosted a gargoyle here or there.
"Just a few reminders before we go in. One, don't say anything stupid, two, don't touch anything, and three only speak if someone else speaks to you. You may be Harry Potter, but you're still the newest vampire in the House." Severus wasn't going to call Harry a member yet because that was up to the House Master, and since the Eternal House was for the aristocratic vampires, Severus wasn't sure if Harry would make the cut.
Harry nodded quickly, thinking suddenly how odd it was how much things had changed from a year ago. Here he was, encountering another dangerous moment in his life and depending on Severus Snape to keep him safe. He felt much better when his life was in the hands of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. "Mums the word." Harry agreed.
"Good." Snape motioned for Harry to follow behind him and then he led Harry up the walk and to the house. Arriving at the door, Severus knocked politely and then spoke a word, which Harry assumed was a password of sorts, and then without further ado the door slowly swung open.
Walking in to the large marble foyer, Harry immediately tensed, for sitting in leather couches, chairs, and loveseats were the members of the House, and as Severus walked in with Harry the entire room hushed and all eyes turned to Harry. Severus, shoulders back and head held high, after all, he did outrank everyone currently in the room, didn't bother to even spare a glance to the other vampires as he led Harry through the door on the opposite side of the room. Through this door was a long twisting hallway that only served to heighten the tension Harry felt in his stomach and chest.
Severus knocked politely on the door at the end of the hall, and it was opened immediately, revealing another room full of people, but Harry could already tell that this were the five other leaders of the House besides Severus. Snape, being a complete gentleman, bowed and greeted the vampires in the room and then took the liberty of introducing each one to Harry.
"This is Master Chesek Vonture, obviously Master of the Eternal House," Severus motioned to what looked like a middle aged man, maybe a few years older than Severus, who had rich blonde hair and burning green eyes that bored holes into Harry's own emerald green eyes.
"And this is our Assistant House Master, Msr. Vincente Delque, "this man had an older look to him with astonishingly silver hair and gray eyes, "this is Lucien Vontae, House Champion," this man was almost another Snape look alike with silky black hair and dark onyx eyes and when Severus said his name the man winked at Snape which Harry found incredibly odd, "and Ms. Mayleen Tanner here is our Watch Dog, and you of course now Draco Malfoy, our House Messenger."
Since introductions were over, Severus left Harry standing and took his seat between Vincente and Lucien, his eyes now on Harry and giving him that same intense glare that he'd received ever since arriving at Hogwarts.
"Well, Mister Potter, it is definitely a privilege to have you standing amongst us, I must say that I never would have imagined having you here in my House." Master Chesek began, because really, who would ever believe that Harry Potter, Golden Boy Extraordinaire, and Savior was a vampire? "I am sure that Severus has already explained to you the basic rules of being a vampire, and I'm certain that he has explained the House System to you. What you must know now is that we, the council, will decide whether you may join the Eternal House. The first thing I want to tell you is that if you are accepted into the Eternal House, you will be treated exactly the same as the other vampires, no special treatment for the Boy Who Lived. Secondly, you will take the vampire mate of our choosing, because this is a long tradition that the council decides because we know what is in the best interest of our members. Do you understand."
Harry felt like he was having information crammed down his throat, but the only thing he could do was swallow, "Yes, sir." Really, how could he deny the offer into the Eternal House if it was given to him? Severus was the one teaching him about being a vampire and as Severus' pupil he needed to be in the same House.
"Please step outside a minute, Mister Potter, while the council decides." Chesek said, flicking his fingers in dismal, his bright green eyes studying Harry intensely as he gave a little bow and then turned and left the room.
I didn't even get to say anything.... Harry felt that he was definitely going to be denied membership into the Eternal House. He wasn't aristocratic or rich like Malfoy and he didn't have the cool, calm, grace that Severus supported. There was no way he'd make it in.
An eternity later, or what felt like it, there was a soft call for Harry to re-enter the room and he did so with baited breath, waiting to hear the rejection that he knew he would receive.
"After much consideration," Chesek began, "we have decided to allow you to join the Eternal House. A few members pointed out that you do not come from an aristocratic family, and even if you had you did not have the opportunity to learn from the way most children do. Therefore, you will spend two nights a week under the tutelage of Draco. He will teach you the proper etiquette for the Eternal House and in the mean time Severus can continue instructing you on the more basic vampire abilities. At the end of next week we will determine who will be your mate, as your first month as a vampire will be drawing nigh then and it will be time for you to taste your mate's blood."
Harry nodded, "Yes, sir." It sounded a little weak, even to his ears, but what else was he to say? He'd just been put under the instruction of Draco Mafoy, his nemesis, and in a week he was going to be handed over to some other vampire so they could suck each other's blood. Gross. Harry had sort of been hoping that he could have Severus has his mate, at least then he would have known the person.
It was then that Harry caught a view of Lucien Vontae's hand, resting comfortably on Snape's leg. So that's his mate. Harry felt a bit surprised, but he felt foolish. Of course Severus would have a mate, he was a powerful wizard, best Potions brewer in the magical world, and well, he wasn't bad looking either. This revelation told Harry that he really needed a little bit of rest, even with his new found vampire powers.
"Good, Severus, you may take him back to Hogwarts now." Chesek said, and after Lucien had whispered something in Severus' ear the Potions Master rose and led Harry from the room.
"Well, congratulations Potter, I've got to look at you in the House every day from now until forever." Snape said dryly as they walked back down the long hallway.
Harry made a face, "Lucky you."
