Poppy came in after I finished my breakfast, all of it. She smiled at the empty plates, "my you sure were hungry."
I laughed, but had to stop because it hurt so much to laugh and move- my stomach was beyond full.
"I put your fresh clothes in the shower for you," she said as she straightened everything out. Though everything was already clean and organized, I noticed that she re-cleaned and reorganized everything every chance she got. I suspected this was because she didn't have a lot of patients to look after. The entire week I had been here, I had only seen one student come in everyday, except of course that first day with the three boys.
"Thank you so much, Poppy," I said getting out of bed and anxious to shower. She balanced the trays and the plates on both her arms and I helped her by stacking the glasses.
"Say, Poppy..." I started, "who is Severus?"
She raised her eyebrows and gave me a peculiar smile. "Severus Snape is a professor at this school. He is the potions master."
Potions was my favorite subject in class when I went to Hogwarts, of course I had a different teacher- someone who was much older, almost too old to be teaching. But he was a great man and an even better potions master.
Instead of taking a shower, I decided to take a nice bubble bath. There were so many kinds of mixtures of soaps and shampoos in the bath that I've never heard of before I was too afraid to try them, so I remained to use the things I knew I liked such as the vanilla scented soap, apple shampoo and cinnamon oils to moisturize.
Poppy had laid out a modest, but gaudy, gray dress. It reached down to my feet and the sleeves to my wrist, not to mentioned it seemed just a little too large for me. I sighed, what a horrible looking dress. I wondered where Poppy found this, it certainly wasn't hers. I laughed at myself, Poppy was quite a character. She was the motherly type, of course kind and gentle. And she always behaved properly, but behind closed doors, when it is only her and me without any students around, she is an mad woman- sarcastic and always laughing at everything.
I respected her and in a way, she reminded me of my mother.
I remembered the castle well, though it had been years since I stepped foot inside it. Nothing much had changed, though. Absentmindedly, I made my way to the headmaster's office. I couldn't believe that my father was now the headmaster of the school and from what I was told by Poppy, the most powerful wizard in the world. Though at first I thought of her just being kind, I started to wonder if my father really was the most powerful wizard in the world.
The office looked different from what I remembered it to be from my headmaster. There beside his desk, perched a Phoenix. I smiled and pet it's delicate head.
"Hello, friend," I said.
"I see you've met Fawkes," my father said coming from the stairs.
"Good morning, Daddy," I said suddenly remembering our last conversation. I sat down on a chair across from his desk and he sat on the other.
"I've missed you," he said referring to when he last saw me at Godrick's Hollow years ago, which were only a few days ago for me.
I had already forgiven him for my daughter, though he really wasn't the one to blame. I decided I should try to move forward and not think of the past so much. I would make the best of my situation, though I didn't know what that was. For now, it was decided I would stay in the castle and help where I could. Mostly, I would help Poppy since I did have some background in healing 'back in the day.' But because I was also excellent at potions, I thought perhaps I could tutor some students if they needed help- I would have to discuss this with my father.
I spoke with my father for a while, catching on up on his life and what had been going on. Then he asked if there was something I needed, and of course there was.
"Father, I was wondering if you had seen my wand," I asked. I had my wand with me when I traveled through time, but had not seen it since.
"No, I have not," he said. Then he got up, "Do not worry about it. You can get another one at Ollivanders."
I smiled, "Thank you, Daddy. Oh by the way, may I have some money to buy clothes?" I rarely asked my father for help at least not lately, considering I was a grown 26 year old woman and had not asked him for money since I was 18 years old.
He chucked, "let's us go to Gringotts."
When we went to Gringotts, I learned that not only was my vault still valid, but I had more gold in there than I had left. Through the years, my father has been adding more and more gold, readying for the day that I would come back. He had admitted that he expected me decades sooner, and for a while thought I had died. But he continued to hope I was alive and every year put a sum in my vault.
After Gringotts, we stopped by a shop so that I may buy some proper clothes. The style has certainly changed, but I was amazed at how wonderful I thought everything was. I was amazed at this future world that at the same time remained true to traditions. I changed into some new clothes I bought: a plain white dress and tan heels.
Then we went to Ollivanders for my wand. He looked familiar and I realized I must have known him when he was a child, but could not really think of whether I really did or not.
The wand that chose me was made of birch wood and had a phoenix tail feather core, measuring 11".
This was precisely what my other wand was, of course all wands are not the same even if they do have the same properties.
By the time lunch time came around, I was back at the hospital wing helping Poppy clean after two students came in with injuries from from their Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
"Ms. Dumbledore," a low voice said from behind me as I tucked in the last end of blanket under a bed.
I turned around to find Severus looking at me with a different expression, though I couldn't tell what it was. Perhaps it was surprise from seeing me dressed differently and out of bed.
I laughed a little, "it's Harlow actually." In my 'other life' I was married, but he died shortly before Adele was born- therefore making me a widow.
He frowned a little, "excuse me."
I smiled, "it's okay. Was there anything you needed, professor?" I stressed out the last word.
He raised his eyebrows, "Yes. I wondering what you would like for lunch so that I may bring it up here for you."
I waved my hand, "No no no. You don't have to do that. I can go downstairs and eat there."
He nodded his head and turned around. I ran up to him and stopped in front of him, "are you headed to lunch?"
"Yes," he said looking a little annoyed.
"Well, why don't we go down together?" I asked with a smile and wondering why he always had a frown.
He looked at me as if not knowing what to say and then calmly said, "very well then."
We walked down to the Great Hall talking, mostly me talking and asking questions and him listening and answering them. When we reached the Great Hall, there were many students eating and talking amongst themselves. We had come in through the front entrance of the Great Hall instead of the side which the professors usually used.
Eyes and heads turned towards us, mainly me.
"Why are they staring? Is there something on my face?" I asked fighting the urge not to rub my face.
He looked down at me, "No there is nothing on your face."
We sat at the large table and I ate a large chicken salad. Severus remained silent, while the other teachers introduced themselves and welcomed me. My father was not present.
"Severus," I said.
He was in the middle of putting a large piece of bread in his mouth, then stopped and put it down on his plate, "yes, Ms. Harlow?"
I touched his arm, "Please, call me Eileen."
He breathed deeply and moved his arm away from my hand, "Very well. Eileen?"
"Severus," I said again, "I was wondering if you would allow me to help you with your potions class. I do so adore potion and would like to perhaps tutor students who are having trouble with it. Of course it might have to be just the first year students, because I do believe that a lot of things have changed since... my time. So that leads me to my second request, I was wondering if you could teach me some things I've missed on these last decades... about potions."
He thought about it for a second with a frown, "very well."
I smiled, "are you always so agreeable?"
He turned to me in surprise with his eyebrows raised, "sarcasm?"
I laughed heartily, "not at all. Ever since I met you this morning you have been so very kind to me and have agreed to everything I've said."
"Hmm," he said and continued to eat his food.
