The woman who called herself Kim Sanders sat on her couch with mug of tea. Albus Dumbledore was at her house. He sat in her wingback chair. He drank tea from one of her mugs. He was watching her as she made it a point to stare at the wall. The house was silent.
"How did you find me?" she finally broke.
"It was not easy, I see that you have abandoned MOST of your magic." he looked at her knowingly, "but once I was able to find which muggle you were, I was able to trace you. You kept the same story throughout the years."
"I though it might be good to be consistent. I was not expecting anyone to come after me."
"Clearly."
"Why are you here, Albus?" 14 years and it still felt odd to call him Albus.
"I will not, as they say here, beat around the bush." Dumbledore's tone grew serious, "The Dark Lord is back. He killed a student last year at the TriWizard Tournament. He tried again to kill Harry Potter. He has returned and is gaining power. He grows stronger every day."
The woman who called herself Kim could not breathe. That was the last thing she had expected to hear. Then again, 15 minutes ago, the last thing that she expected was to have her old headmaster in her living room.
"He..died..it's impossible."
"Unfortunately he did not die. He has simply been hiding. Waiting."
"What is the Ministry doing about it?"
"The Ministry refuses to believe it is true. They are doing nothing but telling the world that he has not returned."
"Why are you here, Albus."
There was a pause as Dumbledore took a sip of tea. "The Order is reformed, with a few new members of course, but a few old as well."
"No." she knew what he was asking.
"Yes it has reformed, my dear. And it needs as many of the old members as it can. War is imminent. Voldemort will not stay hidden for long and we must be ready." It was amazing that after over a decade, that name still made her flinch.
"I cannot do what you ask of me, Dumbledore."
"I have asked nothing, child. I have simply informed you." he moved to sit beside her on the couch, "but if we are to talk about old times, perhaps we should be ourselves, hmm?" Gently Dumbledore took her face in his hands. The woman felt the warmth start at his fingertips and spread all over her head, down her neck and throughout her body. She felt it burn as the magic coursed through her. She felt her body start to change. Her arms and legs were getting longer. She grew taller. She felt her stomach shrink. Her sweat pants and t shirt began to stretch as her chest and bottom rounded out. She felt her face morph into what it once was.
When the transformation was finished, she opened her eyes and looked back at Dumbledore. He was smiling at her again, the warm fatherly smile he always had. She got up and walked to the mirror that hung over her mantle. A familiar stranger stood in the reflections. She pulled her hair down and let blonde waves fall down around her shoulders. Blue eyes glowed back where brown ones had once looked on. She was her old height and her old size. Nothing had changed in 14 years. Tears began to burn in the corners of her eyes as swirling memories became a tangible weight on her soul. She turned back to Dumbledore.
"We are not to talk of old times, Albus. I have spent years trying to forget the old times. I have spent over a decade trying to forget the things that we went through. The things that I went through. I thought I was strong, but I am not. I am weak. I cannot fight anymore."
"So you will hide? How exhausting."
"I know what you ask me. You asked me all those years ago and I did it but I won't do it again. I cannot watch my friends be tortured. I cannot stand idly by as they kill people I love, like James and Lily. I cannot take the heart break of betrayal again."
"Oh, my child, you don't know. You have distanced yourself completely."
"I see their faces. I have tried to forget them, tried to move on, but my dreams reveal the truth to me. I see James. I see Lily. I see Peter and I even still see Sirius. I beg for relief from memories, yearn for it but my soul burns with the knowledge that I could do nothing but stand aside while my friends died. While my other friend betrayed the people he said he loved. I could not even mourn them until I came here for fear of being discovered."
"Sirius did not betray Lily and James. Peter Pettigrew did."
Caridei felt a kick to her stomach. "What? Peter died that night, Sirius killed him along with 12 muggles."
"No my dear, Peter. He was the Potter's secret keeper. He betrayed them, he faked his death, and was in hiding for 12 years. Until Sirius escaped from Azkaban and found him."
"Sirius is free?"
"Sirius is a fugitive, so he is never free. But he no longer resides in Azkaban."
Caridei sat down. It was too much at once. Far too much. Her head was swimming. Peter was alive. Sirius was alive and innocent. She could not believe the things that she was hearing.
"Even if you do not return, you needed to know. I have spent the past two years trying to find you. If you plan to stay in hiding so be it, but you will have to be wary. Voldemort will come after you, as he has all his Death Eaters," he paused and she said nothing, "But if you return. Come back to the Order and return to Voldemort, you will have a better chance."
"No." Caridei stood up. She was determined to stand her ground. Without warning she transformed herself back into Kim Sanders, "This is who I am now. I have been a muggle for 14 years, I will remain one. I have no mark. I have no evidence of what I was or anything of the past. I will remain here, in this world."
Dumbledore stood up and walked to her. "Then that is your decision," he said, placing his hand on her shoulder, "but now you know. You have been warned of the danger. " He smiled, a sad smile this time, and turned towards the door.
"I can't go back, Albus. Especially not now. No one will want me. I've abandoned them."
"No, Caridei, you have not. At least, not yet." And with that he walked out of her home. She heard a pop and knew he had apparated out of her life again. Caridei walked calmly over and locked the door. As she lay head against the wood, she let the tears come. For the first time since that night, she allowed herself to cry. Every bit of her poured out into racking sobs, until she felt dry and alone.

Two days later....
People sat quiet and content in Number 11 and number 13 Grimmauld Place. Rain clouds were on the horizon and thunder was heard in the distance. Outside their homes, no on noticed anything. They did not see the woman in the jewel tone blue princess coat. Her blond hair was pulled up in a chignon underneath a blue wide brimmed hat. She only had one bag and she had been outside for nearly an hour, after the taxi had dropped her off. She waited, patiently as the evening sun crept lower and lower. They also did notice strange old man who appeared out of thin air. He walked with a limp up to the woman and scanned her with what appeared to be a moving glass eye. She stared back at him and neither one said a word. Then he nodded and tapped his staff on the sidewalk. The residents of the home were oblivious to the fact that their homes were suddenly moving to make room for one more. They went about their evenings as the normally did and paid no attention as Caridei Burke followed Mad Eye Moody into Number 12 Grimmauld Place.
