Chapter 2 - Returning to England
Aaron had helped us find a place more private to speak with Harry. When he were sure we were alone, I turned to Harry for some answers.
“What happened that day Harry? Why did you suddenly just apparate during the battle? Surely you had a plan, or a logical reason for what you did,” I said quickly.
Harry shifted uneasily in his seat. He seemed to be struggling to find the right words to say. It didn’t matter, he’d tell us the truth no matter what.
“If I told you my reason for leaving, you will hate me- all of you,” he murmured.
I raised my eyebrow at him in question. “Harry, why would we hate you? It’s not like you left out of cowardice!”
He merely flinched at my words, and then I knew it were true.
We all fell silent at the realization that the Chosen One had fled from the final battle due to the fact that he was afraid to die.
“I never thought that you of all people would back down from a fight,” I said slowly. I looked up at him. The feeling of astonishment quickly fell and anger replaced it. Anger from the fact that he had left us all there to die at the hands of the Death Eaters and Voldemort. He was supposed to be our best friend!
I glared at Harry and shouted, “I can’t believe you left us, all of us, there at Hogwarts to die! What were you thinking Harry? That if you fled, You-Know-Who would stop the war, spare us all and let us live? You were the Chosen One Harry! You were supposed to be the one who would vanquish the Dark Lord once and for all! And what do you do? You run away because you didn’t want to risk being killed! You put all of our lives at risk when you did that!”
I didn’t care anymore that Aaron would find out the whole truth. Honestly, I didn’t care if the whole world found out right now. Harry Potter was supposed to be our best friend, and knowing that he was really a coward, infuriated me! Ginny seemed to be just as angry as I was, because as soon as I stopped talking, she started throwing accusations and threats at him. She did not back down when she yelled at him about who had died because of his last-minute decision.
Ron was sitting there, glaring at Harry, but never said one thing to him. We all could agree that we felt betrayed by Harry. He was our one hope, and he failed us.
I glanced over at Aaron while Ginny had stood up and started swishing her wand about, throwing curses at Harry. He was staring at all of us in shock, mostly at Harry though.
“So…so he is the one I’ve heard about? He is the kid who was supposed to get rid of the Dark Lord over in England?”
“Why do you sound surprised?” I stared at him. Sure, Harry was only 19, but he was a great wizard, when he wasn’t running away from his problems that is.
“Sorry, it’s just kind of hard to believe that this guy could defeat a very powerful dark wizard. Especially since he ran away when he had the chance to defeat him,” Aaron said. I heard a low growl from behind me, probably from Harry. I had to agree with Aaron though, how could anyone expect someone like Harry to defeat the Dark Lord when all he did was run away and hide?
“What are you planning to do mate?” Ron looked to Harry, trying to keep himself calm; I could still see the hate and pain in his eyes though.
“I…don’t really have a plan…,” Harry replied reluctantly. He sulked down into his chair and Ginny sat down beside him.
“Harry, we’re going to have to go back home- to England. You might be afraid to face You-Know-Who again, but you can’t keep running away from your fears. Dumbledore wouldn’t want you to give up just because you’re afraid of dying. We have to go back,” Ginny stated with confidence in her voice. I nodded in agreement, we needed to go home, no matter what home we went back to.
I watched Harry’s facial expressions change from fear to understanding, and he slowly nodded. He sighed. “I know we have to go back…, but I don’t know what we’re going to do- what I’m going to do.”
I smiled reassuringly at him and said, “We’re going to be with you on this Harry. We won’t back down. We’ll fight along side you until the end.”
He faintly smiled back at me. I really had no idea what we were going to do when we returned to England. Voldemort had control over every acre of the country. As soon as we would arrive we’d have to seek out the last remaining Order members and go into hiding with them to come up with a plan of action.
After a short discussion about what we were going to do. Aaron escorted us through some underground tunnels in the park until we came to a blank wall. He pulled out his wand and tapped the wall three times before drawing a star, and the wall became invisible, revealing a pathway behind it. We followed him down the hallway to a dark, circular lounge room. On the opposite side from the entrance was a fireplace.
“This is the fireplace we use for Floo travel. It’s mainly used for employees who live overseas. There is one in every park. You can use this to get back to England, without worrying about international regulators finding out about it. It’s the safest way for international traveling,” Aaron said. He walked over to the mantle and grabbed the bag of floo powder. He continued on, “I’ve used it a few times. I have a summer home in the outskirts of London, so I use the Floo Network during the summer when I’m there. No one is living there, so you can use that as your first stop. And if you’d like, you can use it as a safe house if you can’t find another.” He smiled at us.
I smiled back. “Thanks Aaron. You’ve been a great help. I hope that, after today, we will see each other again.”
“I hope so too,” he said.
“Alright, we should get going now,” Ron said firmly. We nodded and stood by the fireplace.
Aaron instructed us to say ‘Parker Summer Home’ as each of us individually stepped in and disappeared in green flames. As I stood in the fireplace, I remembered the tickets we had and dug through my purse until I found them. I pulled them out and handed them to Aaron. “I realize that we’ll never get to use the other three tickets, so I hope you are able to give them to someone else or make some use of them.”
He laughed a little and took the tickets. “I’ll see what I can do with them, thanks.”
I smiled and said, “Thanks for helping us.” He nodded and I took a handful of floo powder, shouted, “Parker Summer Home,” and dropped the powder onto the floor. I was engulfed in green flames and felt the pit of my stomach being pulled and twisted around until I was in the proper fireplace.
“Oomph!” I missed my footing and fell out of the fireplace on my hands and knees. When no one said anything, I looked up to see that I was alone in the room. I stood up and brushed off the soot and walked around the house. Where was everyone?
“Hello? Harry? Ron? Ginny?” I called out their names a few times, but could not find them anywhere.
After searching through the house a few times, and checking outside, I came back into the living room and froze on the spot. Harry, Ron, and Ginny were all standing there, being held by Death Eaters, with wands pointed at their necks.
Someone grabbed me from behind, and before I could grab for my wand, there was another wand tip at my throat. I closed my eyes and felt that familiar tug and pull as we apparated out of the house, and appeared in another. I slowly opened my eyes to the familiar foyer of the Malfoy Manor.
