-Due to the nature of the latest seizures from suspected buildings belonging to witches and wizards involved in Dark activities, Prime Minister Fudge has put through a motion that will be voted on today by the Wizemegot. The Minister has already held a press conference earlier today, once again announcing of his intentions to keep to his earlier campaign promise that he will be harder than ever on anyone who wishes to cause harm to the Wizarding Community as a whole.
‘Every individual,’ Prime Minister Fudge said as he stood in the Conference Room within The Ministry, ‘every man, woman and child has a right to live in safety within this World. All humans are sworn to be protected by the government that serves them, and therefore all new cases of activities that are deemed harmful will be dealt with even harsher consequences. It has already been proven that the measures in place now, are not enough.
‘They are determined to not respect this right, and so later on today I will be passing a bill that will give all Departments within the Law Enforcement the means they need to deal with this threat. This government have sworn that they will do whatever is needed, and therefore with this growing danger to what we all hold dear, I am now putting forward even the smallest of offences be dealt with the strictest means at our disposal.
‘I am expanding the use of Azkaban to include those who have –any- dealings with Dark Magic.’
The Minister went on to include that he was truly sorry that it had come to this, but felt that there was no other choice. A fact that in no way can be disputed as the events of the past two weeks have proved with the near fatal wounding of Auror Stephanie Winkles during the raid of a still unspecified building within Diagon Alley.-
Scratching her nails upon the newspaper, wishing that she could magically turn her nails even sharper than they already were so that it could rip that article up, Amy glanced across the long table. She had taken precautions before daring to look at The Daily Prophet. The newspaper had been bunched into her robe upon receiving it this morning, then thrown into her bedroom locker before her first class and it was only after the school day had been over for three hours (therefore giving her a good chance of the library being mostly empty, except for any students cramming for a test) did the paper become unfolded.
And it was already infuriating her, though she should have known it would. It was the lead story after all of The Daily Prophet.
She knew what the ridiculous nonsense contained within the Idiot and his Lapdog’s public propaganda voice. She’d seen it all before.
And now the New Idiot and his Lapdogs were making yet another attempt, a more subtle one though the Resistance Members were already feeling the effects. They’d already years ago denounced all Members of The Resistances as being Dark, and then retracted it during the Clean-Up Stage of the War.
Had forced many of the Resistance Members through trial of course first, but in the end…
And since then, every now and then the New Idiot and his Lapdogs got the bright idea to try again.
Here was the latest one.
It was just lucky that the New Idiot and his Lapdogs had enough sense to not actually let it be public knowledge of exactly who they were targeting as Dark Ones. And that when the Hit Wizards had done the raid…
They’d somehow managed to keep it from being particularly noticed by Tom’s customers, partly due to the late hour. As the Hit Wizards had taken Tom away, it had only taken a few words by Judy (a chambermaid of The Leaky Cauldron and Second Generation Resistance Member) to the Others, and they had all returned to their rooms without realising exactly what had just happened.
It had also helped that Tom had allowed himself to be –detained- by the Hit Wizards. If he had put up a fight…
But all Resistance Members had learnt what was –easiest- for them. And despite what they may feel, and the need to show their anger of exactly how they were being treated in public, it was better for them to just let themselves be arrested and then let it all out when they were in the cells. Or anywhere else within The Ministry where there were more of the ones who –annoyed- them around.
But, how much longer would that last? Just because it was known to be the best didn’t mean that at the spur of the moment…
The New Idiot and his Lapdogs were getting closer. They were targeting the more public and higher figures of the known Resistance Members, as the arrest of the owner of The Leaky Cauldron, Tom, proved. And if they were daring to go for Tom, then soon enough…
When was the last time the New Idiot and his Lapdogs had gone over the collective Elders surrounding and including The Marauders? There had been that entire –incident- when Ryo McClean had travelled from New York after finally gaining the right to return to the United Kingdom (without The Ministry being allowed to arrest him on sight) several years ago. James Potter and Sirius Black had involved in several –fights- (verbal for the most part though there had been that particularly nasty one involving a few spells being exchanged) between themselves and the New Idiot and his Lapdogs. The only reason the two hadn’t been thrown into Azkaban (the New Idiot and his Lapdogs were always more than ready to send any of the Members of the Resistances there with the greatest of ease) was due to Lily Evans and Remus Lupin coming to their rescue and with several of their own threats (verbal and insinuations of physical harm), managing to drag Sirius Black and James Black out of The Ministry before anything else could be exchanged.
But if this bill was passed (and Merlin knew that it would have to be something that would allow the New Idiot and his Lapdogs to cause even more –bother- for the Members of The Resistances), then undoubtedly it would lead to…
Giving a slight shake of her head, Amy forced her dark amber eyes to another one of the articles contained in The Daily Prophet. There were as usual, many (despite the fact that this was the front page, what any Other would view as important was mostly nothing more than tripe) articles that Amy could just skim over, giving it nothing more than a slight note in her parchment as sometimes…
Sometimes, something that was just a little detail could all of a sudden erupt into something that would involve her, and the ones she cared about. And she needed to have the ability to see all those little details in order to be able to figure this out before it nearly destroyed everything she had carefully put together beforehand to ensure the safety of her Kata, the Allies and any others who were included in the circle of the ones she loved.
But seven pages in, and Amy was bordering on boredom. She only did this exercise (reading through the entire Daily Prophet) for pre-warning of anything that might happen, but forcing herself to do it night after night left her…wanting to wring the necks of the various reporters of The Daily Prophet. While she completely understood that all the articles had to be written so that they would be understood by Others, did it really need to be this dumb down?
Surely the Others had a bit more interest in the world around them other than…this? There was this new bill being passed through the Chambers of Law over exactly what constituted as an acceptable pet for any witch and/or wizard. Who in Merlin’s name would think that keeping a griffin in the garden shed was in any way fair (this was more towards the living conditions the griffin would have to suffer through by being kept there that the stupid so-called owners) and safe (in this case Amy had to grudgingly admit this could also be something to worry about for the stupid owners)?
Who?
And yet some stupid wizard had been pulled in front of The Courts and demanded that his defence (‘There’s no rule against it, ya honour’ and ‘I looked after him, ya got to say that. That griffin had everything he bloody well needed’) was good enough! The Daily Prophet, and the gossip mongers had had a field day with all of it, and the Members of the Resistances had been given an insight into it all because an Unknown (a Female Resistance Member not known to the Idiot and his Lapdogs as a previous Researcher) had had a front row seat to all of this as a court stenographer. She had been more than happy to let the stupidity of the Other be known as she was…
Well, there had been many hard choices during the War, and that one…
Many Members of The Resistances had disagreed with it.
This feeling of a wrong decision being made all those years ago, and one that was still in effect, had only worsened with so much evidence being given that the Others…didn’t deserve it.
And never had.
A pointed clearing of the throat, followed by a cough.
Amy only ever so slightly turned her head in acknowledgement. Before inwardly sighing.
Once again, her inner alarms hadn’t given her any warning that the Hogwarts Library had been entered by one of her own Kata. No, the little bleep as it recognised the presence of Anto had been so under her radar that she hadn’t even visibly noticed it.
She had nothing to fear from Anto (he was Kata) but she really wished that it was clear enough so that she could prepare herself for any encounter she would have with them. Especially now.
The arrival of…
Closing her eyes, Amy turned her attention to the next article. She highly doubted that the subject would in any way give her any consolation of what she would now have to endure. Oli and Anto had chosen well.
Anto was the one out of the two who had the best success in…
She could understand why they were going to such lengths. Why they kept ambushing her at the oddest times (including the middle of her class with McGonegall despite the fact that they knew that if McGonegall caught even a sniff that she was having a Silent Conversation there would be Hell to pay) to try and make her…
She was breaking.
She could feel the bricks in the wall crumble as each day passed. Each time where she passed by him and had to keep on going.
Each time she had to sit in the class and remain in her seat. Not jump out of it like she wanted to. Like she needed to.
And answer back in typical Slytherin fashion.
All she wanted was…
But she’d managed to keep herself from slipping up the past couple of days. Since the last time Oli and Anto had grabbed her, dragging her down to the old room where the entire Kata used to be housed before all the Changes had been made. There shouldn’t have been anything that might alarm Anto and Oli into…
-Amy- Anto’s voice whispered through Silence.
Giving a little push, Amy allowed herself to Send out her magic to search out exactly where Anto had placed himself. She knew that there was no one for her to be worried about. If any of the younger Pups were nearby, or any Elders that she had to be careful about, she would know.
The alarm bells would ring then.
Thankfully.
-The hours of training set aside for the Gryffindor Quidditch team ended three hours ago- continued on Anto, with a low drawn out sigh.
Amy’s lips twitched.
Now what?
The younger Pups, when they were involved in the Gryffindor Quidditch team were hardly any concern of hers. Unless there was a reason for her to pay attention to it (such as the events of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Seamus Finnegan, Dean Thomas and Neville Longbottom’s First Year), Amy left it up to Oli to keep an eye on all of it.
So unless he asked for her help…
-And I’m afraid to inform you that I have the bad news that Oli has yet to return- added on Anto, and this time Amy could understand Anto’s annoyance.
None of the Kata, or any of their Allies, enjoyed it when they were drawn into this kind of situation. Oli’s Public Persona was a Quidditch obsessed Male and in reality, he did quite enjoy the sport despite the fact that it wasn’t as much fun as Resistance Member’s Quidditch.
So, he was adept of being the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain (taking over from Charlie who was also enthusiastic about the Other sport) and knew how to push his team to their limits in order to make sure that they played to their greatest strengths. The problem was that despite the fact that he drove his team through hours upon hours of training in order to ensure they were the best, he always…
He always pushed himself even more.
And so even after he had dismissed the rest of the Gryffindor team from practice, Oli was inclined to staying on the pitch for even longer to practice his own game. His Kata always gave him an hour and a half to work out his own –needs- with the flying before they expected him to return to the Gryffindor Common Room and rest.
Three hours and still out there…?
It meant the wonderful and fun job of retrieving Oli.
And that never ended well.
Oli –never- came quietly.
Amy sighed.
-Has anyone else noticed?- Amy said, her mind being –kind- enough to remind her of the near diabolical disaster when the Kata hadn’t checked beforehand if any of the other Young Ones had realised that Oli hadn’t come back. Amy, Anto, Cedric and Penny had all been in the air, laughing as they argued with Oli over his desire to remain in the air.
Luckily, Amy had been able to land onto the stands and slip into a shadow without being noticed.
And the Young Ones hadn’t realised how firm Anto was on his broom before he pretended to slip. Anto was not supposed to be a fan of flying.
-The storm out there has dissuaded any of the Pups from attempting to go out and get Oli- said Anto –Ron being the noisiest in his protests against it-
Amy snorted.
-You mean there were ones who did want to leave the warmth of the Gryffindor Common Room?- she said.
-Hardly much of a fight to convince the others- said Anto –other than Hermione who gave up with the rolling of her eyes and having one of her books being thrown into her lap to shut her up-
-And I’m guessing that I won’t be given the same privilege?- Amy said –You won’t try to stop me from having to endure the storm by telling me to read something instead?-
The softest of laughs from Anto drifted into Amy’s head.
-No- he said –Not for that. But I will use a book against you as a thank you for going out there with me-
Amy sniffed.
Hardly enough.
Not only would the two have to deal with being soaked, but there would also be the entire battle of being up in the air with the gale worthy wind. This also wasn’t enough to count against the discussion that would ensue as Amy and Anto had to –convince- Oli that he had done enough now, and he could reward himself with the comfort of the Gryffindor Common Room. Or the trip back, without being caught as Oli and Anto…
They wouldn’t want her to leave their presence until the last possible second. And journeying through the corridors of Hogwarts left the three with too many chances of someone who shouldn’t, catching sight of all three of them together.
And unless the three had prior warning (in the case of not being to disperse in time) that there were approaching students, or a particular Elder, then they couldn’t stage a fight between Oli and Anto, against Amy.
-That is hardly enough- Amy said.
-What if I include that book that Charlie promised to send over to you?- said Anto.
Amy could feel one of her eyebrows rise.
-And what could you possibly do about that?- said Amy –especially as the book has already been promised to be my Charlie? What are you going to do? Keep me from getting it?-
-He may have made a little mention to me that there was a smaller book that goes into further detail on the subject- said Anto –More of a notebook. Scribbles by a High Dragon Master that has never been published-
-And Charlie managed to get his hands on this?- said Amy.
It was possible. Charlie was surrounded by other High Dragon Masters (along with lower level Dragon Keepers) and had ties…
But in order for Charlie to get such a prize…?
-Yes- said Anto –though he refuses to admit exactly how he did-
The closest gesture of a smirk and then Anto added:
-And Bill did try to get it out of him-
Amy’s lips twitched again.
Ah yes.
Bill’s tricks were notorious and as Amy had been under such methods numerous times…
He always swore that he only did this because he cared about them.
And Amy always swore that this was not the case, and she’d be able to prove it… If Bill didn’t use certain techniques against her when she was trying to.
Amy couldn’t keep herself from ever so slightly shivering.
The last time she had been in the company of Bill, he had…
-So- cut in Anto’s voice –Is that enough of an incentive to convince you to brave the weather and Oli’s stubbornness?-
Amy glanced over at the crumpled Daily Prophet (she never took great care of the paper once she’d gotten what information she could from it) in her fist, before with the softest of sighs (her Persona would never show any sign of weakness) she pushed the newspaper back into her bag by her chair. A quick glance of the library told her that the students surrounding her were already tensing, wands at the ready as they undoubtedly silently chanted in their head for her to just leave without any –fracas-. And as long as none of them caught her eye and then added insult by doing something that would annoy her Public Persona, then Amy could leave without being caught in another public incident.
And the faster she was out, the quicker she could end the entire ordeal involving Oli and return (eventually) to… Well, at the moment there was nothing planned for tonight. Other than searching through The Daily Prophet, the rest of Amy’s night was…uneventful.
Unless one of the Slytherin students were stupid enough to try and insert their dominance of the Slytherin House. Despite the fact that they had all been warned (at least any who had had any older relatives within the Servant Ranks) to not dare.
Those Servants knew what she was capable of.
And how restrained her punishments were against the younger generation of Servants. The students undoubtedly thought differently, but for the most part…they listened.
For the most part.
Sometimes, they forgot and Amy had to remind them.
And make sure that this reminder lasted longer in their minds.
-I’d ask for chocolate as well- said Amy with a put-upon sigh –but I have a bad feeling that it would just backfire-
Anto laughed.
-If Bill and/or Charlie even got a sense of that, Amy- he said, giving an inward shake of his head.
Yes.
She knew.
And they’d take any opportunity to use it against her as well.
Amy passed through the Main Doors of the Hogwarts Library with only one glare in the direction of a Ravenclaw Sixth Year (undoubtedly at one point she had done something to him and as such, this Ravenclaw had to take any opportunity to passively pay her back with looks), drifting down to the right in the general direction of the Side Door that emptied out next to the Glasshouses. She couldn’t take any direct route. If anyone made a connection of her entering the Hogwarts Grounds, and Oli’s eventual return to the Gryffindor Common Rooms, then…
There were enough lies that were weaved around the three remaining Members of the Weasley Kata. Amy didn’t want to add to it by having there being yet another fake argument between herself and Oli. There had already been one several weeks before when Amy had nearly lost control and…
Oli had been forced to interfere. To on purpose bump her, sending her a physical reminder of exactly where she was and kick start her instinctive reaction to start a fight as they were in public.
It had taken three nights of secret flying before Oli had determined that he thought that was enough. Not of any other extra comforts that Oli and Anto could provide her (Bill and Charlie had been in Contact with her for the next week and a half at midnight UK time through Smoke and Mirrors), but of being up in the broom at two o’clock in the morning…
The least she could do was make sure that Oli didn’t have to endure yet another –discomfort- concerning himself and the other Young Ones.
Once Amy had moved far enough from any other person (other than the paintings who were watching her with interest as if she would all of a sudden do something…silly), she backtracked several steps to the statue of Augustus Long Sword (a rare Muggle who had preached the right for witches and wizards to live during the darkest times of Wizarding History and was rewarded with the then Head of Hogwarts of that time with a statue to commemorate him).
‘Really child,’ cut in a prim voice from over her right shoulder. ‘What are you up to this time?’
Amy’s shoulders seized as she raised her eyes to the rafters.
Just because the blasted witch had been the public mistress to the Headmaster back in the 1890’s, didn’t mean she could put her hook nose in the business of anyone who passed through this corridor. It was undoubtedly the reason why her portrait had been placed here, as she would make sure that she knew exactly who was using the secret entrance that acted as a short cut to one floor below.
‘Lady Euberta,’ said Amy, keeping her back to the witch’s portrait as she knew that if she turned…
The witch seeing Amy’s expression at having to once again deal with her would only earn Amy another talk from the Elders. Lady Euberta would make sure to pass on that Amy had gone through the secret entrance and insinuate that Amy had been up to something.
Even though, for once, Amy wasn’t.
The Elders could understand the importance of convincing Oli to return to the Hogwarts building.
‘Yes?’ said Lady Euberta’s voice. ‘Yes? What is delaying you from answering me? Has the thoughts of exactly what you are about to commit caught up with you and now you can not even activate a simple switch?’
And wouldn’t Lady Euberta love that.
‘Hardly, Lady Euberta,’ said Amy, biting her bottom lip upon uttering the last word to prevent herself from continuing on with a verbal repeat of her previous thought. ‘I simply replied to your greeting.’
‘And that is keeping you stock still by the entrance?’ said Lady Euberta. ‘Really child. In the space of time that has passed, you could have given me your greeting and said goodbye.’
Yes, but not without offending Lady Euberta.
The witch wanted conversation. Lady Euberta wanted to have the opportunity to be able to pick apart every single thing Amy said so that she could twist it in the re-telling to the Elders.
‘As you were the one to initiate the conversation,’ said Amy, ‘I was expecting for there to be a topic you wished to discuss with me.’
There.
She could be diplomatic.
And all that wasted time and energy spent dealing with the Old/New Idiot and his Lapdogs proved it.
She’d just had to learn, the hard way.
‘I was simply giving you the opportunity to explain your reason for being down this corridor,’ said Lady Euberta.
‘Simply to get down to the lower floor, Lady Euberta,’ said Amy.
‘And your need for this is so great that you need to use the short cut?’ said Lady Euberta.
‘Well,’ said Amy, ‘I thought it was better if I avoid any other students for the moment. I am quite sure that you have heard that there are a few Slytherins baying for my blood after I lost them ten points.’
As of yet, none of the Slytherins had done anything about it. They were milling around, muttering angrily among themselves and trying to think of a way to pay her back without having to face her wrath. It had already been proven that Amy didn’t need to have physical proof of when a Slytherin, or any other student for that matter, were responsible, and so even the slightest of rumours…
‘Yes,’ said Lady Euberta, the disapproving tone entering in for the first time. Amy actually had to give it to the witch. She had restrained herself quite well so far through the conversation. ‘Your little incident reached my ears.’
Complete hypocrite.
Lady Euberta ate up any rumours so to infer that she had been appalled when that juicy little titbit involving Amy…
‘Undoubtedly,’ said Amy, raising a hand to press against the single loose stone hidden behind the statue. With only one little jab, the stone block popped out enough for Amy to pull it out and Amy could flick the switch within the hole. Slot the stone back into place and there was the hidden doorway for Amy to escape through.
-Amy- hissed through Anto’s voice.
Amy gave a low growl.
This was taking too long.
‘Goodbye, Lady Euberta,’ said Amy, disappearing into the darkness (unless she said the spell, none of the torches that littered the corridor would light) and therefore was only subjected to a loud snort before she was too far away to hear the rest of Lady Euberta’s rant on Amy’s behaviour.
-I’ve got the brooms- said Anto.
Moving onto the spiral staircase, Amy’s eyes narrowed.
-I left my broom in our Old Living Quarters?- she said.
She could have sworn that she had moved it into the cupboard on the fifth floor. With such limited access to the Weasley Kata’s Old Living Quarters (due to the fact that the other Young Ones were aware of it and therefore would take notice if she was in that area too often) and unable to keep it in her own bedroom due to the risk of the Slytherin girl she was forced to share the bedroom with (the Slytherins insisted on being given more privileges and one of them was that the older they got, the more bedrooms provided until Seventh Year when it was two per room) deciding to enact her revenge against Amy that way.
Lorla Igson would try it, despite the consequences.
Amy still residing in the Slytherin House was still a sore point, especially as the Elders had retracted the earlier Shared Agreement between Amy and the Slytherins on Amy’s living arrangements.
-I’m afraid that I couldn’t get my hands on your broom, Amy- said Anto softly –so it’s a spare-
All Resistance Members were taught that they needed to be comfortable on any broom, as they couldn’t always be up in the air on their own broom. Be able to adjust to the broom’s temperament within seconds of swinging that leg over as there were more important matters for them to be thinking over.
They were being trained for War.
Amy inwardly sighed.
Sometimes she truly wished that she could get away with wearing a Charm Bracelet. A nifty device designed during the War that allowed various items (such as the personal broom) to be magically stored inside little charms attached to a bracelet. But one that was only for Public Members of the Resistances, and Amy…
Amy wasn’t one of them.
And hadn’t been for many years now. The Elders had decreed that it was for her own good and so…
Well, she could hardly expect Anto to be able to know that Amy had stuck it into that cupboard. As far as she could remember, she hadn’t had the chance to tell him yet.
So, it meant one of Oli’s spares undoubtedly.
Luckily, Amy was one of the few allowed to not only touch one of Oli’s brooms but also ride it. That, at least, wouldn’t be one of the arguments the three of them would be having up in the air.
-All I care about is that it will keep me up there- said Amy as she took a running jump when there were three steps left (there was still that bloody prank on it despite Penny and Amy’s continuous argument with the Males to get it removed).
A snort from Anto.
-Of course- said Anto –I am not stupid enough to try and check your skills are up to par by giving you a sub-standard broom on purpose-
Amy rolled her eyes.
That had thankfully not been something she had been subjected to. If this was due to it being put on someone else first, and the reaction afterwards being enough of a deterrent, Amy didn’t know.
She just knew that it hadn’t been her.
And she was happy about that, as she couldn’t have thought of a better punishment. She’d probably have not been able to manage such a good one either.
Penny had been in her element.
-I am glad to see that your Common Sense hasn’t weakened during those last couple of weeks being permanently around Oli- said Amy.
It was the problem with Oli. And Bill.
They used their skills, their –gifts-, in order to get their way.
Even if it meant they were using it against their own Kata.
All that mattered was that they convinced the ones around them to –think- their way. That what they wanted to do, was right.
And even though Anto was one of the recognised Members of the Common Sense Club with in the Kata, Oli could…
Amy rolled her eyes.
Mates.
-Well- said Anto –if you are so worried about any fissures to my wall of Common Sense, then I believe that I should increase my time spent with you-
-And how would you manage that?- said Amy.
There were only small chances that could be grabbed between Amy and the other two Males of her Kata. Oli and Anto had more times when they could be together and be themselves. Their bedroom gave them the privacy they needed, added by the sheer Public demeanour of Anto that kept any of the other Younger Ones from entering it for the most part.
But Amy…
Where could they hide long enough to be able to get that time? There was no old Living Quarters from when they were younger that could be used. And many of the hidden rooms were known by the other Pups as they had been told of them by their Elders.
And with the latest weather reports given, it would hardly be the perfect time to remain outside to talk.
-I have my methods- said Anto –Tonight is out but as its Friday night…-
Amy could feel his shrug.
It was one of the few perks of their Public Personas. Neither of them were popular enough for them to have a busy schedule during the weekend that they were unable to have time to themselves. It was quite easy to set it aside. The only problem they ever had…
-I am supposed to be meeting Penny for a public meeting to discuss homework- said Anto –but I am quite sure that she wouldn’t be annoyed if I asked to cancel it. All of these aren’t always in a public area so as long as she keeps out of the public eye I am quite sure we could get away with it-
-Anto- said Amy –I thought you used those moments to discuss various ways to convince a certain painting to stop siding with the Elders?-
As this painting was quite close to the Ravenclaw House, it gave that wizard perfect access to keep all of Penny’s coming and goings to a near 100% mark of truth. Again, that was undoubtedly why it was there.
The Elders had a knack of putting the greatest gossips at these –points- of Hogwarts.
-I am sure that Penny won’t mind it being pushed a couple of days back- said Anto –and as the Elders are still sending the pair of us looks after the last attempt made against Sir Duncan Ducan… We’ve decided to hold off for a bit, until the Elders are less suspicious-
Amy snorted.
Ah yes. The small little spell that should have been all too easy to place on the wizard’s painting had instead backfired. Merlin knew what protection was on it, but it had taken the Silencing Charm, shredded it to pieces before firing back…
It was quite lucky that Penny and Anto had managed to duck the fireball in time.
But who in Merlin’s name attached such a spell as defence?
And despite what the Elders had screamed at them later on in Dumbledore’s Office, the damage hadn’t been that great. It had hardly been noticed by any other students.
-You may be in a long wait then- said Amy –ever since the twins and Lee threw out that doozy of a prank two weeks ago, which they still suspect somehow being –helped- along by Oli, at least, the Elders haven’t given up trying to make sure that no one gets into any more trouble-
-The little present that Oli left for Fred, George and Lee are still in their possession- said Anto –They haven’t found the right opportunity to use it yet. Or at least, that’s what the bugs proved-
Amy smirked.
Who’d have thought that Oli would have been able to pull that off? Amy had known that Oli was perfectly serious that he’d be able to. Oli had the knack of being able to pick exactly what he needed, even when he seemed to give himself an impossible situation, to succeed.
And though he had been right that there were methods of Kerbaski’s that were workable, he’d luckily not dug himself too much into the hole that he couldn’t expand what Kerbaski used with some of his own –ideas- and make it all…right. Penny had been infuriated but Amy…
Well, it was hard, even for a Female, to tell another that they were wrong. The Female may take less of an offence if it was a second Female, but still…
And as there were only two Females that Amy were on speaking terms with…
-For as long as they were working of course- cut in Anto’s voice as Amy paused at the exit of the secret corridor.
It was here that was the tricky part. There were ways for Amy to know if there were anyone who couldn’t see her leaving by this door, but if it was a Member of the Resistance out there and they noticed…?
Subtlety.
Amy gave a low growl.
There were too many times when she had to be subtle, and damn it… Sometimes she just wanted to be brash. She just wanted to say Fuck You to the consequences and do what she wanted to do.
Take a few more leafs out of Bill’s book.
-Ever figure out how they discovered the bugs?- said Amy softly as she tapped the wall in front of her.
Pressing her palm against it, Amy hissed a spell that would gather force within the stone before expelling out into the corridor on the other side. It should be nothing more than a little blip for any Resistance member who might be out there, and any Other…wouldn’t even notice it.
And the fact that there was a wall in between, then if it was recognised, she would have enough time to melt back into the hidden corridor and disappear to the floor above before she could be discovered. It wouldn’t matter if the Resistance Member did pretend that it wasn’t there, the spell would inform her that they were and she… She’d know to try another route.
Hogwarts had become even more crowded this year. Now there wasn’t only the other Young Ones she had to keep an eye out on (the Elders were more than aware of her magic and use of). There were…
The Marauders.
Visiting Hogwarts to see their Young Ones, and…Remus Lupin.
-No- said Anto –They shouldn’t have even known about that crevice that Brian discovered all those years ago-
It had been before the new Restrictions had been placed on the Weasley Kata and the Black Rose’s. Back then (during the first few years that the older ones had been Students at Hogwarts), the two Katas had interacted freely with each other and so no one ever raised their eyebrows or protested (well, not that much. Bill, Josh, Adam and Charlie had made sure that all other Gryffindor students were aware that nothing they could do to stop it) when the two Groups were in the Gryffindor Common Room. And when they weren’t at their Special Spots within the Common Room (it had been collectively agreed that it would be better in that Common Room than in any of the other House’s), they’d be up in one of the bedrooms.
That would usually be Bill, Josh and Brian’s, as most of the more –fun- items were kept there. Adam’s bedroom was a possibility, but he had slightly more problems with the Others he had to share it with, despite his more powerful magic. Bill, Josh and Brian on the other hand… There were more Young Ones than Others in there.
-Hopefully there will be somewhere better that Oli can think of next time there has to be bugs- said Amy, as the spell finally reverberated back to her, giving her the all clear.
With a flick of her wrist, the doorway opened for her and Amy pocked her head out. She may have been informed that there was no one from the forks on either side of the corridor, but that didn’t mean that there couldn’t be someone stomping up now.
Nothing.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Amy turned right and made her way down the final part to the Outside Grounds.
-You are giving your permission for there to be another one?- said Anto.
-Course not- said Amy –I wouldn’t willingly give it, except I know that at some point… Oli will insist on it being used-
This year had already proved that it would be like no other. Undoubtedly to be expected, what with a Member of The Marauders living and teaching there, but still…
None of the three, or their Kata, had any good reason to know the inner workings of The Marauders at the moment. Anto was, under the orders of the Elders, on the out with the Weasley Family and Oli was close, but more towards the Weasley Family (being of the same Kata as Bill and Charlie, and Allied to the Young Ones) then The Marauders. And Amy…
Didn’t feature anywhere.
But they needed to know. They had to have some idea of what The Marauders were up to as it was the only way…
None of them could stay away.
Not really.
They still cared too much for…the ones they had lost.
-Cedric managed to duplicate a few parchments he had grabbed from George’s bag- said Anto –Hasn’t had time yet to actually read what is on it though-
-It will undoubtedly be more workings of a prank than anything else- muttered Amy as she reached the last few feet before…
And there was the Side Door.
Thank bloody Merlin.
-I don’t know, Amy- said Anto, the slightest hint of worry underlining his voice –Considering everything that has happened so far this year…-
-How much do they know?- said Amy.
-They’re watching the signals just as closely as we are- said Anto –Their own parents. Their Aunts and Uncles. The Elders. The Daily Prophet-
Amy sighed as she pushed the door open.
-Have they showed any signs that they have noticed something we have not?- she said.
-They have clues, just like we do- said Anto –Some the same as us. Others that we don’t. But of course, we know some things that they don’t. It all rounds out in the end and…-
-And?- Amy whispered.
-We’re doing our best- said Anto –but so far, it looks as though they are in a similar situation to us. Too many questions. Not enough answers-
And yet, Amy highly doubted that The Marauders and their Allies were in any way less in the dark over…everything. It was such a mess.
And the only way…
Elders didn’t agree.
The Elders still wanted…
-It shouldn’t be like this- said Anto.
And Amy couldn’t argue with it.
And she knew that Anto hadn’t mentioned it in to be obvious.
It was a fact.
A hateful fact.
Another sigh from Anto.
-I’ll be just outside the stands of the Quidditch Pitch- continued on Anto –How close are you?-
Feeling the first blast of wind, Amy hissed the spell to unfurl her cloak around her (it was one part of the Resistance Members’ travel items she could get away with) and clutched it closer. There were numerous charms on it to make it stick close to her in order to keep the rain and wind from being able to infuriate her further, but still…
Better to take extra precautions than suffer the consequences of being wet, cold and pissed off.
-Just outside now- said Amy, hunching her shoulders against the wind.
Stupid, stupid ass storm that just had to hit now.
And stupid, stupid Oli just had to choose tonight as when he would choose to stay out in the Quidditch Pitch for longer than he should.
-You can charge Oli with owning you several cups of coco for this- said Anto –If he refuses I’ll –help- you change his mind-
And despite Amy’s own immediate anger at having to endure such weather, she couldn’t stop herself from laughing out loud. She didn’t even want to think what methods Anto was going to use against his Mate to inform Oli that he had no other choice.
‘Lily says…’ cut in a voice from somewhere off to Amy’s left.
‘…could she…we wouldn’t have to…has ordered,’ said another voice.
There were only bits and parts that Amy could understand. The gale force winds snatched the ones in between, leaving Amy with…
But still…
Someone had mentioned Lily. Could it be…?
‘Hardly think…The Ministry…they have….on,’ said the first voice, ‘and that….stay.’
‘They don’t….anything….us,’ snapped the second.
‘You can’t keep…..James,’ said the first.
Oh Merlin.
Fuck.
Amy stumbled back, feeling her body hit against the stone wall of Hogwarts as she tried to curl in on herself. She couldn’t be seen, especially by them.
How would she be able to…?
‘I am….pretending,’ said the second Male voice, the owner of it coming in loud and clear despite the storm now.
She knew what to listen in to.
She knew who she was hearing.
‘You know what is at stake!’ said the first as two bundled forms shifted out from the darkness and into Amy’s sight.
‘If they try to call me back into that office of the New Idiot’s again!’ said the second, ‘I will not be held responsible for my actions.’
‘I am not having you drag Lily into The Ministry again!’ said the first. ‘I can’t always be there, as I have classes!’
‘There is no need for her to be!’ said the second. ‘Sirius and I can handle the New Idiot and his Lapdogs!’
‘James!’ snarled the first. ‘If either of you try to pull what you did last time, we won’t be able to talk our way out of it! Not without ending up in The Courts!’
Amy’s body stiffened.
No.
Dear Merlin, no.
What had they missed that the Weasley Kata did not know that The Marauders were in even more trouble with the New idiot and his Lapdogs than they had previously thought? The Group had known that The Ministry were going after Higher Positioned Members of The Resistances (as the Daily Prophet had proven), but to already be at the stage where they were –attacking- The Marauders…
‘They try to bring any of us into The Courts they’ll regret it,’ said James. ‘Any such obvious and public attempt to tarnish us would lead to an outcry among Our Kind. And that would backfire on the New Idiot and his Lapdogs.’
‘They went for Tom, James,’ said the second voice. ‘Tom! It’s only pure luck that no Other has figured out that he was arrested! If they did, then Tom would be forced to-‘
‘It will eventually come to that anyway, Remus,’ said James. ‘We may be all playing good little Resistance Members at the moment, not causing any trouble, but we all know that too soon the Second War will be upon us and we’ll all be Declaring.’
‘But it hasn’t happened yet,’ said Remus. ‘And by fucking Merlin, I am not taking my chances by catching Fate’s attention and getting all that attention on us now.’
‘Then what would you have us do, Remus?’ said James. ‘Sit around and wait? Just grin and use small threats to keep the New idiot and his Lapdogs off our backs? And keep out of the way of all the Servants until we can actually retaliate properly? Which won’t happen until the Second War?’
‘Not all of us wish to go out in a blaze of glory so soon, James,’ said Remus. ‘-I- have decided otherwise and you will respect it!’
The growl vibrated through Amy’s body.
An Alpha Male insinuating his Dominance over the Third in Command.
And not something that James would Challenge.
Unless…
-Amy?- interrupted Anto.
Amy shivered again.
Alpha Male.
Her Alpha Male.
-Amy?- demanded Anto’s voice.
She swallowed.
She needed to stay, and listen. Take the chance that she would be discovered in order to figure out the inner workings of The Marauders.
She had to.
Anto could wait.
So could Oli.
