Disclaimer: I do not own anything from Harry Potter. I don't make any money from this fanfic. |
A/N: Here is another, hope you enjoy. As the title states will be centered on Remus/Luna. It is currently planned to part of a three shot. Sorry if it's not as long as it could have been.
@
Each chapter will state who she is being paired with. The name will be in ( ). So the main pairing will be Luna with said male. Also some of these may end up being a two-shot or maybe in a three-shot. If that is the case then the chapters will ALL be titled the same. Example: Luna's Choice Pt.1, Luna's Choice Pt. 2 or so on. If the chapters are connected then they will share the same title.
The prompt I used was #3. Forgotten Past
Slughorn was officially completely mental. If she had to hear Potter’s name one more time she was going to throw the contents of her blotched potion into the man’s face. Obviously she wasn’t the only one tired of hearing about how they should all strive for the skill of the Savior. Hello! No one else in the class had Snape’s old book. Luna knew all about it due to Ginny bitching about it last week. Even the ginger was getting tired of being compared to her boyfriend. No one could compete with the dead professor. Someone should point out that the grumpy old git was nowhere in the same league as their former potion’s master. He just wanted to make himself feel better by demonstrating how his students were greater failures. The Essence of New Life was a complicated potion for masters, he was setting them all up to fail.
"You are slicing the beans too wide, Luna. You got to stop at the navel, like this." Ginny proceeded to slice through the black been that was the size of a human eye. They had to cut five of them precisely as directed or the fluid would clump and destroy the potion. She had already destroyed ten of the things trying to perfect the art of slicing properly. "Lightly slice, you don’t want to stab it before slicing open."
"My fingers are numb from the juice, I can’t slice properly. I give up," she didn’t feel up to messing with this right now. If not for the fact that she needed to finish, she wouldn’t have returned. For the first few weeks after her father’s funeral she had considered taking over the Quibbler. Instead she wanted to eventually open up her own business. Her and Ginny had already discussed going into business together. Robes and casual wear for the modern witch. She didn’t want to be a drop out. The only reason she had bothered to take Advanced Potions was because Ginny wanted her in the class. The only other person that had returned was Hermione. Ronald’s girlfriend was way too busy with all the classes she was taking to bother with anyone else. Getting annoyed with the entire process of cutting the sappy beans she plopped herself down on the stool.
Ginny shrugged as the blonde took a seat. She wouldn’t lecture her on not finishing. They were all having a hard time concentrating and getting back into the swing of things. The war had taken a toll on them all. Caring about potions wasn’t on their list of priorities. She was tempted to go fetch that damn book. Unfortunately, it had probably been destroyed in the room when it had caught fire. Shame, it would have made this class so much easier. "At least act like you are trying to finish."
"Very well," Luna sighed before standing long enough to scoop a handful of the beans. Anything to appease the ginger several feet away. There, the beans were added. Now to stir the potion for half an hour counter-clockwise. Until it was a bright pink color. Or a gurgling brown in this case. Her nose scrunched up at the odor rolling from the cauldron. Ugh, there went her potion. Would he allow her to leave once it was completely destroyed beyond repair? Was it supposed to be hissing like that? Was it alive? "Ugh, I think I did something to it."
It didn’t sound happy. As she stirred it darkened, turning to a black misty color. The aroma of burnt meat assaulted her nose. It reminded her of the dinner Neville had prepared for her birthday. He had thought to be sweet and cook for her. Instead the date had ended in disaster as she took one bite of the food and vomited. Thinking about how sweet he could be took her mind off of the steaming cauldron for a minute. Her mind wondered to her answer to his question of going steady. She did want a boyfriend but did she want Neville as a boyfriend? He was really kind and gentle but boring. There was really nothing exciting about spending time with him. Her pulse didn’t race. Her blood didn’t quicken, like in that novel Hermione had leant her. Where was her dream guy that would have her quaking in her boots? Wet and willing to do anything as long as he kept touching her?
"Luna? What did you do?" Ginny narrowed her eyes to see through the black cloud rising from the small cauldron. That couldn’t be a good sign. Nowhere in the instructions did it say that their potion would start smoking or making noise. Not even Seamus’ cauldron was smoking.
"Huh?" She was stirring, like it said to. Luna leaned over her assignment and sighed in dismay. It had turned to sludge. Wait, she didn’t have a stirrer any longer. She lifted the wood to see the end clearly eaten through. Someone coughing got the professor’s attention. Great, she was about to be talked down to like a child. She took a deep breath trying to find the words to explain her failure when the loud bang made her ears ring. The hot liquid flew right in her direction. The searing pain of being burned made her scream then darkness crept in. All she could make out was her name being faintly whispered before nothing.
~
"How is she?" The voice was low with a high pitch to it. It sounded like a male that should have hit puberty but his testicles had gotten lodged somewhere in his throat instead of dropping properly. It made her want to roll over and not wake.
"She should be waking soon. Then if you’d like you may escort her. I’m sure she’d like that." That was a voice she knew. Luna was sure that voice meant she was in the hospital wing. Who else could sound that motherly while stern? Her mind recalled the reason she had passed out. She had thrown something in her cauldron to pull a Seamus. The damn thing had actually exploded all over her. Why wasn’t she aching from the burns? She could clearly recall the pain of it scorching her flesh through her robes. Some had landed on her throat and arms. How long had she been out? Long enough for her wounds to be healed? And where was Ginny?
Luna didn’t think twice about opening her eyes to take in her surroundings. She fully expected to see Ginny or Hermione standing nearby, waiting to lecture her on being so careless. Hermione had already lectured her on being absent minded, this was just the icing on the cake. Instead of a fiery ginger or a bushy haired know-it-all, what she got was a short, stout, very unattractive boy with a bad pimple problem. Didn’t he know they had potions for that? It had been created in the late eighties and a big seller. Her eyes did take in the robes to see which house he belonged to. Had he been sent by one of her friends? "Eh, hello."
"H...h..hi." The young boy stuttered with a deep blush on his cheeks. What was he staring at? From what she could tell he appeared to be on the hefty side instead of right out fat. A wide frame that would always tend to carry extra weight. The thick brown hair was in disarray as he looked towards the floor. "I’ve been told to escort you to the Headmaster’s office as soon as you awoke."
Headmaster? Wasn’t it Headmistress? Didn’t the boy realize that being a witch meant she was a female? Maybe he was confused and hadn’t realized that it was called something different when a witch was in that position. Had Slughorn complained about her behavior at clearly doing something stupid to cause an accident in his lab? "Alright, did I get the okay to leave?"
"She said you appeared to be only exhausted but otherwise healthy. She had to go see Slughorn for something but said we could go. Just that you should take it easy until you’ve fully rested." He stepped back as she swung her legs over the edge. Staring as she did so, "Sorry, it’s the clothes. I’ve only seen muggle clothes a few times and nothing that, eh, constricting."
Luna looked down to see that she was still in her sweater and jeans she’d worn under her robes, which were nowhere to be found. True, the jeans were her favorite because they stretched to fit her shape. If the dolt thought this was form fitting he would probably get a nose bleed if he ever saw beneath Ginny’s robes. She wanted to say he was at least sixteen or seventeen from the little bit of facial hair on his chin. She couldn’t remember seeing him around before but that was nothing to be alarmed about. A few students had transferred from other schools after the war. Seeing as one headmaster had been slain and the other had rushed off to marry a half-giant. "It’s okay. My name is Luna, what’s yours?"
"Ah, P..Peter." He waited for her to stand before walking towards the doors. It would be breakfast soon and he was torn between heading down to meet his friends and wanting to discover what he could about this girl. It was by sheer luck he had come upon her. After dinner he had realized he had left his potions book in the lab. Knowing Slughorn the poof would be in his quarters getting drunk. He had silently crept back to fetch his belongings when he had heard groaning from behind a table. There on the floor had been the stunning blonde. Quickly he had picked her up and rushed her to the hospital wing. The woman didn’t know who she was so the Headmaster had been informed, who said he had an idea of who she may be and told them to have her come to the office as soon as she awoke. If only he could get the information on her first. Just looking at her he knew he’d be the envy of all the other Marauders. Not even Evans could claim to be prettier. "If you’ll follow me."
She knew the way but followed the stout male in silence. From the sounds and smell, it had to be early morning. As she walked down the many halls her memory began to become panicked. Since when had they rebuilt that tower? She could clearly see the damned thing out of the window. It had been destroyed in the battle. A few things hadn’t been rebuilt do to time and the need to have Hogwarts ready by September. Was it possible to rebuild an entire tower in just a few hours? Wait, the portrait of the Bubbling Butler was intact. Not possible. It was one of the things she had picked up while roaming the school in the aftermath. A killing curse had slammed into the portrait, destroying it completely. The always chipper butler had boasted that he would take up residence with the Fat Lady since he always had a thing for the saucy minx. Thinking about it had made her stomach curl, but the point was the frame shouldn’t be hanging on the walls. Nor were some of the others. Things had been rearranged completely during reconstruction. Most of the armor had been annihilated protecting the school but some of it was still lining the halls.
"This way," Peter tried not to blush as she smiled at him. No girl smiled at him. If they smiled in his direction it was because Sirius or James was standing next to him. None willingly gave him any form of approval or recognition. He was easily overlooked for his friends. The only one that didn’t seem to steal all the attention was Remus. That was only because he wasn’t a large flirt. Moony had a way of keeping to himself most of the time. If a girl did go out of her way to talk to him or try to make a play, he would politely decline the offer in a way that made him even more endearing to his fan base.
Luna felt like she’d been punched in the gut as they rounded the corner. Standing about twelve feet away from them was Severus Snape. It had to be him! She would never forget that face, even if she lived to be as old as Dumbledore. He was definitely younger but that nose gave it away. The long straggly hair and the classic sneer. The deceased potion’s master was storming a path towards them. She was going to.... "Uh...g....m..ghh."
"Shite," Peter moved out of the way as the splatter bounced off of the floor to strike the flowing robes of Snivelous. He couldn’t help but smile as the greasy git gasped and moved away in dismay. There was clearly chunks of beef and bread in the mixture, with a lot of stomach bile.
Without saying a word her future potion’s professor twirled with a look of utter disgust. Her stomach felt a lot better after being emptied. Had she really just vomited on a younger Snape? How was he younger and ALIVE? She had attended his bloody funeral. With the holes torn in his throat there was no way that man had gotten up after being put in the ground. He was dead. Was it just a look-a-like? Or was something more morbid going on? She had to speak to the Headmistress. Then see her friends.
"Feeling better? Maybe you got up too quickly." He noticed she did look extremely pale. Still a fine bird, if a tad peaked. His jaw dropped and his heart began to flutter as she placed a hand on his arm.
"Just get me to the office before I vomit again." Luna gripped the coarse robe beneath her fingers wishing she could steal some kind of strength from the pudgy male. What the fuck was going on here? Her mind was running in circles. Had the Nargles ran off with her sanity? Was this some kind of exploding potion nightmare? She was just glad that they didn’t run into any more students on the way to the staircase. Without having to speak a word the staircase began to open. She felt loath to go up them. "Um, do you mind waiting? Just in case I need to head back to the hospital wing?"
"No problem," He actually managed to answer without stuttering. Peter grinned happily as the girl smiled before leaving him to head up the staircase. A beautiful girl had just asked him to wait! She wanted him to escort her later. His heart soared noticing she had yet to look at him with a distasteful dismissal. He was so use to all the girls merely tolerating his presence in order to be around the others. As long as it wasn’t him that had caused her to get sick. Though it would be worth it, seeing the look on Snivelous’ face when he was pelted by splattering vomit. He couldn’t wait to tell the others.
Luna took a deep breath as she walked up the stairs. The loud chipper voice had her stomach clenching in apprehension. As far as she knew the old Headmaster’s portrait wasn’t finished. That was clearly Dumbledore’s voice telling her to come inside. Was she still dreaming? Her feet came to an abrupt halt at the sight of the dead wizard standing next to Fawkes with his hands behind his back.
"Ah, there you are. I was about to head over to see if your condition was worse than we originally feared. Why don’t you take a seat, Ms.?" Albus indicated towards the cushioned seat in front of his desk. The poor girl looked close to swooning yet again. She moved like a statue towards the seat only to plop down like a dead fish. "Lemon drop?"
"No, and it’s Luna, Luna Lovegood." She addressed the old professor with a suspicious look. What was she to make of this? She couldn’t wake from this nightmare. What could she say? Having no other choice she reached down to squeeze the skin near the elbow. Okay, that hadn’t worked and it had hurt. "Excuse me, but how are you alive Headmaster?"
"Alive? Perhaps I am merely lucky. Oh, I’m sure some will say I have outlived my usefulness. Why do you ask? Or shall we discuss what you were doing in the middle of my school? If I’m not mistaken there isn’t a Luna Lovegood enrolled in Hogwarts. We did have a Xenophollis Lovegood but he has left us already. So, my question is how did you get here?"
Then it started, she blurted out her stupid accident. It came spewing out like the recent vomit to stain the clean floor. Word vomit, it kept coming. She didn’t know how to stop it. She informed him that he was dead, the war was over, Snape was dead but she had just puked on him. "I woke up and here I am. Am I dreaming, sir?"
"Afraid not Ms. Lovegood. I am obviously gone from Hogwarts if the professor is being foolish enough to insist that his students try to brew such a dangerous potion. It is one that I clearly forbid when he first received his position with this school. But it seems whatever mistake you made has managed to send you back through time. The reason I forbid that particular potion from being brewed is that it is one of the main components is found in every time-turner. Now, we need to figure out exactly what you did to get you sent back and how to get you back."
She couldn’t believe that shite had them tampering with something so dangerous. She’d probably return home to discover that Seamus had been sent back to the Dark Ages. He always blew his potions up, it was only a matter of time before he made some kind of mistake. She knew she should be worried about herself instead of someone else. "I could walk you through the process step by step, if I can remember. I wasn’t really paying much attention on how many beans I tossed into the cauldron."
"I’ll do what I can. I also have to deal with the information you have passed on. It seems that the war will finally end some years from now. Myself being the many casualties. Please, do not tell me the specifics. If I am but one that falls, I can accept that outcome. There is no point in changing a future that is acceptable. For now we shall get you settled until we can figure out what to do with you." He ran a finger through his beard. "So far the only ones that know of your presence is myself, our healer and young Pettigrew. Lets get you situated in a house, shall we. I will inform the staff that we have a new transfer student. As for being found in the potion’s lab, you were searching for my office and got lost. Traveling has made you a little ill but otherwise you are fine."
"Shall I be going in my original house?" Couldn’t she tell him about the war? Would it change anything? Not that she knew much that could help. The specifics had been kept between the trio. She had no idea how Harry had eventually overcame the Dark Lord. She hadn’t been privy to that information. The most she could do was warn about deaths. But everyone died eventually so what difference would she make? It was best to keep to herself until the Headmaster could figure out how to correct this mistake. Maybe with luck she’d wake up again in her own time.
"Unless you prefer another. It matters little since we shall be getting you home as soon as possible. Which house would you like to visit during your stay? I will also need to know which classes you were taking so I can have a time table prepared. I will assume you will also need a few belongings to get you through."
"May I stay in Gryffindor?" She didn’t want to stay in Ravenclaw tower. She had no idea who was still attending during this era. Her best friend was a Gryffindor so she’d stay there for the time being. Also the young male that had been kind enough to show her here was in the same house. "All I really have with me is what I have on and my wand."
"That is all you need for now. I’ll send you back with Pettigrew. He can escort you to the Common Room. Tomorrow after breakfast come see me. We shall do some shopping." He allowed her to quickly write down her former schedule. "A quick warning, we shall have to change your family name. Also, I must stress that you cannot tell anyone where you are from. Nor must you share any information about the future. That said, what shall you choose as a name?"
"Hm," what did she want to be called? Something foreign to go along with her story of being an exchange student. She didn’t want to be questioned about her past much. "How about Deveroux? It is my father’s great-great aunt’s married name."
"Then shall we have Mr. Pettigrew escort you to your Common Room, Ms. Deveroux?" Albus gave her a kind smile and escorted her back down the staircase. He was a tad curious as to what information she held. He had no qualms about being mortal. If his part ended the former student known as Tom Riddle then he wouldn’t change the outcome. Things would work out for the best. Fate would have it’s say in the end. He stepped out to see that the young man was waiting patiently for them. "Mr. Pettigrew would you do me the honor of escorting Ms. Deveroux to your Common Room. She is a foreign exchange student that will be remaining with us for an undetermined amount of time. Please take care of her in my stead."
"Of course," he’d gladly help her out. Without another word the Headmaster left them alone. That had taken longer than he liked. Breakfast would have started by now. Would the others wonder where he was? Had they noticed that he hadn’t returned to the room? When they asked he’d have something to boast about. He got to meet the pretty new student first. He blushed noticing how she was running her fingers through the long blonde tresses. "Would you like to get breakfast before heading to the common room?"
"Actually, I’d like to lay down. I shouldn’t have gone wandering as soon as I arrived last night. I was so curious about finally seeing Hogwarts that I didn’t think. I was told that I should thank you for finding me. If you wouldn’t have come by I would have been trampled on, I’m sure." That Slughorn would probably walk over her body without noticing anything out of the ordinary. "Let’s go, I’m anxious to see the infamous Gryffindor Common Room."
"This way," he was in heaven. She was holding onto his arm once more and students were starting to move about. He led the way, his mind constantly at the pressure on his arm. He wanted nothing more than to step closer. "Do you know what classes you’ll be taking?"
"The Headmaster said he’d send me my table later this evening. I’m in my last year, which is the seventh here." What she needed to do was get some sleep. Or just lie in a bed wondering how she could boggle things more. Maybe in this era the Common Rooms wouldn’t be infested with Nargles. She didn’t have much so she didn’t want to lose anything.
~
She was so tired. Luna groaned as she flopped down on the small seat. If she wasn’t so tired she would have noticed that she wasn’t the only one with the need to relax. Her feet were killing her, she had a migraine and someone had pinched her bum! She wasn’t sure who had done it in the crowded store. Dumbledore had only laughed as she spun around with her wand pointed. It hadn’t been funny. She hadn’t exactly been seeking attention. She’d even gone as far as to wear one of her new robes to cover up her clothing and put her hair up. It was still bunched up high with a few strands escaping to frame her forehead.
"Tiring day?" Lily waited for the blonde to acknowledge that she was there. She knew how stressful it could be to get everything needed for class. Starting over at a new school was hard enough, this was a magical school. She had remained behind because Potter had gotten on her nerves earlier. The nasty git had remarked that if she didn’t thaw soon he may be tempted to check out the new girl. Said transfer had remained in her bed all day and night, then was gone before everyone else awoke. Now she had returned after being off grounds all day. Lily had to admit the girl was very beautiful, in an angelic way. The face hinted at innocence and serenity. The eyes are what gave her away. A startling light blue that held an intense depth it caused a shiver to run down her spine.
"Very," Luna sighed as she took in the redhead that greatly reminded her of her best friend. Long ginger hair, a gentle smile but a fierce look in deep green eyes. Eyes she’d seen before. "I’m not sure what was worse, the grumpy goblin or the lecherous clerk that thought to pinch my arse. Hi, I’m Luna Deveroux."
She took the hand being extended in greeting. "Lily Evans, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you. Peter has been telling us about you. Actually you’re all he could talk about yesterday. Something about stumbling upon an angel while searching for his book."
"Hm, he must have been talking about someone else." Luna was far from an angel. She had naughty thoughts on a regular basis. Just last week she had been contemplating if Malfoy’s bottom was as soft as it looked. It didn’t have as nice a shape as Harry’s but he did have a nice chest too. If the rumors were true then the Slytherin was packing his attributes up front, not in the back. "Where is everyone?"
"Dinner. I was about to head down soon. I was thinking about skipping but I’m getting hungry." Lily decided she wanted to like the girl. She had a soft voice that made you want to give her a chance. Of course, she felt the need to ask since Black had already given his opinion without actually meeting the girl. "Want to head down with me?"
"That would be nice." Luna stood and stretched her sore muscles. Lily, wasn’t that Harry’s mother’s name? Was she about to have breakfast with his mum? Did that also mean she’d be meeting the others as well? Now she wished she would have taken the time to get more information on the others. All she knew was that his godfather Sirius Black had attended school with his parents. Along with Professor Lupin. Would he be here as well? There was no worry about playing off as being ignorant, she was. "I’m famished."
Lily stepped out into the hall and waited to be joined. The blonde was very dainty, smaller than herself. She was five-six but this girl couldn’t be no more than five-two. Another victim for Black. "May I ask about your family name? A fellow classmate said he knew a few. Purebloods, right?"
"Yes, it’s a large family." It was the truth so she felt no need to lie. The closer she stuck to truths the easier it would be able to remember the lies. Which ‘classmate’ thought he knew something about her family? The family was indeed large, it just wasn’t her family. From the information her father had said was ‘That family breeds like rabbits, worse than the Weasley family.’ There were many lines of it branching back centuries. Trying to pinpoint her exact place would take time and effort. "I’m not that close to them. Mum never cared for that side of my Dad’s family. They pretty much kept to themselves after I was born."
"I see," Lily knew it would be rude to come out and ask what her views on muggle-borns were. She didn’t want to oust the new girl before giving her a chance. It wasn’t the blondes fault that the comment by Severus still stung after all this time. He was the one person she thought she could always rely on. He had turned on her and wounded her in a way she’d never recover from.
"Are you worried about being a muggle-born?" Luna remembered that much about Harry’s parents. "Don’t worry, I heard it mentioned last night when the others girls thought I was sleeping. One of my best friends is a muggle-born. I do not accept or follow the purity sentiments of others. Nor do I believe in suppressing half-breeds or any magical creature. One of my favorite hobbies is to read about strange and magical creatures. Do you have any hobbies?"
"Reading and annoying Potter. You’ll meet him eventually. Head boy, and a pain in the arse. He walks around with a group that calls themselves the Marauders. You’ve already met Peter. There is also Black, watch out for him. Then there is Lupin, he’s actually decent when he isn’t with the others. Oh, I also like to write poetry. Do you like Quidditch?"
Did she? She use to love to cheer on Harry. Luna was already missing her friends. She hadn’t gone to a game since returning for her last year. It just wasn’t the same without watching Harry. "Yes, I like it well enough. In my former school I mainly went to watch my friend play. He was a brilliant seeker, the best."
"Great, there is a game this weekend and I don’t usually attend but we are playing against Slytherin. Want to join me and Alice?" They were nearing their destination. The noise from students talking while feasting could be heard. Lily was almost loath to enter. Her chest pinched as Potter’s words echoed in her mind. Would he really discontinue his pursuit and go after someone else? Did she want him to?
"That sounds like fun," it may take her mind off of her predicament. Luna followed her new friend into the double doors. Food did sound lovely. This would be her first time eating amongst new people. Her feet followed behind Lily automatically as she was lead over towards the Gryffindor table. House division was greater in this era then her own. Many times she had sat beside her friends while sharing a meal. She took a seat without looking around.
Alice closed her mouth when Lily sent her an eye roll. What? Not like she was the only one to gawk at the new girl. Many had yet to see her since her arrival but word had spread throughout the houses. The rumor was that she was very hideous because she’d been spotted on the arm of Pettigrew. Others were claiming that she was stunningly beautiful and part Veela. The brunette wasn’t sure about the Veela part but there was no way the entire male population was staring because the transfer looked like a hag. Even with the long pale locks piled shapelessly the blonde was astonishing. And completely unaware of the effect she was having. "I thought you weren’t hungry, Lily."
"Decided to grab something anyway. Besides, Luna here was so I offered to come down with her. How are things with Frank?" Lily ignored that they were being stared upon. Luna didn’t seem bothered by it. Her new friend was already grabbing food from the table to pile onto her plate. It let her know the girl wasn’t conceited or she’d be loving the attention.
"Okay, he apologized about what he said but I’m not sure if I should forgive him. I don’t think I’m a prude. I’m just not ready to go that far. I really like him though, am I being a prude?" Alice turned to her best friend for emotional support. She did like Frank, he made her feel wonderful. "Oh, by the way, I’m Alice."
"Luna," as in Alice Longbottom? She was sharing dinner with her somewhat boyfriend’s mother. And the girl was discussing practicing conceiving said Neville. She listened as the talk turned to waiting for marriage to being ready. The most she’d ever gotten around to was kissing. Neville had never made her want to disregard any warnings or apprehensions of going all the way. Was she a prude?
"How about you, Luna? You must have a boyfriend. Have you gone all the way yet?" Alice was sure the blonde had seen plenty of action at her last school. Probably had loads of boyfriends doting on her.
Why did she have to have a boyfriend? Luna put down her chicken to answer, she really wanted to eat. "No, I had a boy that I spent time with but it wasn’t anything serious. We mainly talked. The farthest I’ve been was a little bit of snogging. He never pressed for more." Or she would have shoved that singing cactus he was so fond of straight up his narrow end. He’d been a gentleman despite that bitch of a grandmother.
"You can’t be serious! Were there no boys at your last school? Or you one of those frigid girls?" Alice grunted at the kick delivered right to the shin.
"I’m not frigid, I just haven’t met a guy that made me want to melt. There were just as many boys there as there is here. I didn’t care for any of them there. Well, there was this one boy that a lot of the girls liked. He was blonde, bluish-grey eyes, nice body and an attitude that could piss a saint off." Luna was sure they all knew the senior Malfoy already so she forwent mentioning any names.
"He sounds nice, even if it sounds like a lot like Potter. Well, except for the description." Lily knew that most girls found her stalker to be a god. If only he wouldn’t be so annoying or childish. Or if he could ask her out one time without making a joke of it. If he couldn’t take asking for a date seriously how would he be in a relationship? She was alright with having a sense of humor but she also wanted a boyfriend that would take their commitment to each other seriously.
Luna then took the time to inspect Potter. The group of four were seated amongst themselves near the end. She knew him immediately, Harry really did resemble his father. Except James Potter had better hair. It wasn’t as wild looking and he was taller. Just sitting upright at the table, she could tell that he had a few inches on his son. He was very cute, just like her friend. They had the same smile. "Potter is the one with the glasses, right? Then yes, he is handsome."
And smiling like an arse! Lily swallowed past the lump in her throat as Potter beamed a toothy grin at her new friend. Luna was polite and smiled back. Okay, it was just a smile, nothing to get upset over. So much for never wanting anyone but her! She wouldn’t let him put his moves on Luna. The girl didn’t deserve to be toyed with. "The one next to him is Sirius Black, isn’t he dreamy?"
"Yes, he is handsome as well." The dead godfather hadn’t changed too much. She’d only seen him in person briefly moments before his death. The man would remain handsome for a long time. Not even the gruesome fate of prison could dull his looks. What drew her attention was the one male not looking their way. Peter of course was waving, so she waved back. It was the dirty blonde sitting with his nose in a book that caught her attention. He wasn’t even as ‘cute’ as the other two across from him. The classic features could be described as appealing if you weren’t into the boyish trend. Something about the seriousness etched around the mouth, the crinkles in the forehead and the finger lightly running along his jaw in contemplation had her stomach tightening. Maybe she just had a thing for average appealing men. Whomever he was, she liked the way he looked more. Something called out to her as he lifted his eyes over the edge of the text to catch her staring. It was like being hit in the chest with a stunning hex as their eyes locked in silent questioning. She couldn’t make out their exact color between the distance. She didn’t need to. The longer she stared the more drawn she felt compelled to keep contact.
"Well, I know that look." Alice chuckled as the blonde tore her gaze away with a deep blush. Thankfully it wasn’t Potter on the receiving end. As much as dear, confused Lily protested, Alice knew a losing battle when she saw one. Before the end of the year those two would be shagging like rabbits. "That is Remus Lupin."
Professor Lupin? That was her former professor? As in the member of the order that had married the Auror Tonks? He looked different than he had during her second year. She had been just a child at the time but she could clearly remember a more haggard looking man. Some of the features were the same but sitting at the table was a man that still had hope of a future. Damn, he didn’t look like her professor from here. He was healthier, no scars on his face and his eyes didn’t have the haunted appearance.
"Don’t waste your time. He doesn’t actually date." Lily had her suspicions as to why Remus Lupin didn’t date but wouldn’t voice them. She wasn’t sure why she was the only one to have figured it out after all these years. If she was correct then it would explain why the quiet one seemed to distance himself from others. He had to be scared of getting close to someone.
"He does shag, or so I heard." Alice had heard many stories about him. As they say, it’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for. "Well, it’s true. I heard from Debbie, that she heard from Tiffany that he did indeed shag that Patrice girl in Ravenclaw. Patrice bragged about it the next day. Everyone knows how big of a slag she is but she was boasting about how endowed Lupin was. Saying he had amazing stamina and it ended because she was sore. The talk is the two went at it for over two hours and he was still giving it good. Of course, I’m not really interested in the gossip but it’s what I heard."
"Yes, I’ve heard the rumors and that’s what they are. So what if he’s shagged a few in his time. He’s a male. Maybe he’s just waiting for the right one." Lily didn’t care for rumors. There was one going around that Potter was also hung and loved oral. Then there was the rumor that Sirius couldn’t last for more than a minute and was the size of a toddler. Which couldn’t be true because of the one time she had caught him shagging in the Astronomy tower with Penny Malloy, it was because the girl had been screaming her head off. The sound of shagging had accompanied the harsh screams of someone being seriously maimed. Not to mention the slag had walked funny after being scolded for being out after curfew and doing something so inappropriate on campus. Lily didn’t like to recall the image but she could. Sirius had been driving into the girl from behind and there hadn’t been distinct sound of flesh slamming into flesh. It was apparent that the Black heir wasn’t going all the way in and yet his partner had been screaming in agony or had that been pleasure?
"And I’ll be the next Headmaster of Hogwarts." This came from a brunette two seats down from Luna. Catherine Brown snorted at the absurd idea. "Lily, everyone knows you don’t want to believe rumors because then you’d be forced to admit that while Potter acts the fool in love, he is indeed anything but. Saying that Remus Lupin is waiting for the right one is like saying Sirius Black is a virgin. Just last week both had two Hufflepuff’s in one of the unused classrooms. I bet they weren’t discussing Muggle Studies. Everyone knows what Black did to Stephanie Wentworth. He got her pregnant then refused to have anything to do with her. Why else didn’t she return after he humiliated her in front of the entire school? One is as bad as the other. All four are nothing but lying gits that think of only one thing. Even that Peter is disgusting, he just can’t get any girl to be foolish enough ignore his face to drop her knickers."
"You’re being rude." Lily didn’t think they were that bad. Okay, Sirius was known to be a male slag but the others had their good points. Potter wasn’t that bad. Besides, she didn’t want him to act like a puppy when it came to her. It did hurt to hear someone say that he really didn’t like her as he often claimed.
"And you’re being a twit." Catherine turned to the new student. "Girl to girl, stay away from that group. If you do manage to bed one, enjoy your boasting rights but that’s all you will receive. Take it from someone that has been there. I struck out with Sirius first, no hair off my arse but his other friend is in an entire league by himself. That Lupin comes off as calm, collected and sweet but it’s a ruse. He’ll be that way until he gets what he wants then he’ll forget your name as soon as he rolls off."
"By the way, how many have rolled off?" Alice tore a piece from the cold roll. She’d heard this speech before. Everyone knew she was bitter because neither would fall for her cheap looks. "Why don’t we show Luna around?"
~
She didn’t remember the Professor being this strict during lessons. Luna touched the tip of her wand to her hair to watch it darken to a dark blue tint. The look made her want to cringe. She really didn’t look good with dark hair, no matter the color. She’d rather transfigure her book into something to eat. A week had gone by without her realizing it. Perhaps because her sudden friendship with Lily Evans was making it easy to settle into this time era. The ginger girl reminded her a lot of Ginny. It was no wonder Harry had fallen in love with the youngest Weasley when she was so much like his Mum.
"Now, that most of you seem to have the hang of that simple exercise we’ll begin working on something a little more challenging. Changing your own appearance is a lot easier than working on another person." Minerva hid her smile noticing that Pettigrew had somehow managed to make most of his hair disappear up front and wasn’t having much luck in returning it. "Split into groups of two."
Luna would have been disappointed at how quickly James Potter rushed over to pair with her friend. Seeing him leap across the table to get in between them had even the redhead pausing. Alice was already speaking to Frank, there went that idea. She turned to see who else was left. Scratch that, she was seeing who else was left that she wouldn’t mind working with. There was no way she was allowing Peter to have a go at her face. There were a few males from Slytherin looking her way; not going to put herself through that.
"If you don’t mind," Remus spoke loud enough to draw her attention. Seeing as his normal partner had jumped the table to have at a chance to flirt, he wasn’t the only one that was left to search for a partner.
"Wait a second, perhaps she’d rather be my partner. What do you say?" Sirius leaned over the desk to flash the bird one of his traditional smiles. So far there hadn’t been many chances to speak to the new girl. No matter the time Evans had the blonde glued to her side. If he didn’t know any better he’d say Evans was having motherly tendencies. He just wanted a chance to speak to her, she was adorable. The soft blue eyes that had a tinge of grey looked between him and Moony in silent contemplation.
Eh, what should she say? She didn’t want to offend Harry’s Godfather but she didn’t want to pair off with him. She had a feeling they’d end up with a failing grade if all he wanted to do was talk and flirt. Just because she wasn’t in her correct era didn’t mean she would disregard her classes. Well, as long as the subject wasn’t being taught by Slughorn. "Sorry, he asked first so it’s only polite that I accept his offer."
"Oh, polite and beautiful, I’m in love." Sirius grinned knowing he’d be stuck with Peter this time. He’d have to entertain himself by checking out her backside. Or transfiguring his friend’s face into something with whiskers. He’d just wait until another time to grab a chance to converse. He only hoped that his reputation wouldn’t prevent her from wanting to get to know him better. Most of the time he would just laugh whenever he heard the latest piece of gossip. Supposedly last week he had taken three girls into an abandoned classroom and shagged them all. One girl supposedly had to go to the hospital wing after he forced her to take it in the arse. Another was already experiencing morning illness and may be pregnant with his child. He would like to know exactly how he was tempting fate by fathering a child when he had spent every evening practicing with Prongs. In truth he’d only slipped inside three of the birds during his time at Hogwarts. One untimely session had been interrupted by Evans. He doubted that the blonde girl would believe him if he were to inform her that her new partner had been with ten times the women he had. Sure, he liked to flirt but he didn’t have the sexual needs of a werewolf driving him to rut like the dog he could morph into.
Right, Luna almost rolled her eyes at the statement. She knew for a fact that the man never got serious with anyone during his time here. He had been completely single when he’d been shipped to prison. At least she knew that Lupin had a romantic bone in his body since he had gotten married. It also meant she was free from his advances. She smiled as she walked around the desk to stand in front of him. He really wasn’t as cute as his friend but had a nice smile. "Please, don’t try to shorten the length of my hair."
"Of course not," he would never risk destroying the long curls that hung past her waist. Remus loved long hair on a female. It was one of Evan’s attributes that he admired, that and her quick mind. He really didn’t want to tamper with her face either. He’d never seen such tiny features on a person. Her face was practically angelic, up until she grinned wickedly and he felt his ears growing.
"Nice one, bet he could take flight with those." Peter laughed even as he felt the whiskers growing from his cheeks. Figures that Padfoot wouldn’t be able to come up with anything more creative than to give him something that he was already capable of obtaining on his own. His mind pondered for a moment and with a flick of his wand a nose that resembled the one on Severus Snape sprang from the aristocratic features.
Luna smirked seeing the crooked nose. She did smile when her hair was turned into a fiery red. Next, she flicked her wand with one thought in mind. Lupin’s hair went to a bluish black and began to grow to his shoulders with the hint of needing a good washing. It didn’t quite match the Snape of this era but brought about a piece of mind noticing how well the likeness was to the former professor that use to constantly scold her house mates. So proud of her work she leaned forward to touch a strand to make sure she got the texture right. The hair felt in dire need of a good conditioning.
Remus felt his breath catch as the girl leaned forward after gifting him with a head full of hair that Severus would have thought to be stylish. The fresh scent of honey and vanilla wafted into his senses as she examined her work. He could tell by scratching upon his neck that his new hair was in a sad state. Hair aside, the scent got thicker the closer she got. She smelt as innocent as she appeared. His stomach churned due to his blood heating and his mind heading straight to the wrong brain.
A wave of dizziness hit so suddenly Luna did what she could not to fall over. She grabbed the coarse robes of her transfiguration partner. Her fingers clenched tightly as a memory flashed through her mind, replaying through someone else’s eyes.
She was sitting in her desk during second year. It had to be second year because standing in front of the class speaking to them was none other than an older Professor Lupin. The man was speaking rapidly to Terry Smith about the effects of being bitten by a Wood Fairy. The scene was actually one of her fondest memories of her time at Hogwarts. He’d been one of her favorite professors. He had a way of speaking to get the students interested, a professor not afraid to get involved with his students. For one year she had looked forward to attending D.A.D.A.
The man smiled gently as Sarah Prichette, the bitch that liked to complain about Luna’s eating habits, came up with the correct answer to his next question. Being herself Luna was sitting in the back listening intently. She had never been one, like Hermione, to raise her hand for the sheer joy of knowing she always had the right answer. Younger Luna lowered her head to scribble down some notes.
As she lowered her hair the Professor stopped speaking, completely ignoring whatever Sarah was saying, to look into the back of the classroom. Golden eyes focused mainly on her bowed form, her being completely unaware of the scrutiny. For several minutes the man watched as she ignorantly kept dipping her quill in ink. From the unknown view, she could clearly make out his features. It was a look she’d seen on his face once before, when Sirius Black had been slain. Pain.
"Are you okay?" Remus ignored the looks they were receiving. The girl had suddenly grabbed a hold of his robes. Was she ill? He’d heard that she had been ill the first day she had arrived. Did she have someone permanently wrong with her? It may explain why she was so dainty. He brought a hand up to touch her shoulder in hopes of getting some kind of reassurance that he didn’t need to rush her to the hospital wing.
"Fine," she muttered. What the hell had that been? Luna forced a smile to assure him and the others that were stopping to see what was happening. She could clearly remember that day in class and as far as she knew Professor Lupin had never acknowledged her presence over any other student. The only person he had ever shown special interest in was Harry. If her mind was still working properly he had never called on her once to answer a question. He had never spoken to her directly. Even when they had been practicing casting a defensive shield when her turn had came he had simply nodded that she was to try it. His face had been blank, no emotion to indicate that she was nothing more than another student. Actually, he had shown more emotion when the other students had gotten it correct on their second or third try. Luna had done it correctly the first time around, once again all she had received was a blank nod that she should get the hell back in line or take a seat. "Sorry, stumbled a bit."
"Ah, you crush his hopes, little bird." Sirius remarked noticing the fingers lightly caressing the slender shoulder. He knew that look. Moony had just smelt something he liked. Well, all was fair in love and war. The Marauders had already made a pact that they would never let a female come between them, ever. It wasn’t like Moony would ever get serious about someone. The werewolf went through them like Peter did underwear, once a month.
"No problem," Remus ignored the snide comment to help her stand upright. She did look a little flushed. She gave a nod indicating that they should continue the exercise. What could he change about her? Why had she smelt so good? He’d been filled with the urge to wrap his arm around those narrow shoulders and shove his nose into her hair. It had to be the effects of the full moon that was coming up. He was always randy around the full moon. Soon enough he’d be forced to find female companionship.
~
"YES!" Lily blushed realizing that she was cheering just a tad louder than the others around them. Another score for Gryffindor. They had known it was a sure win since they were playing Ravenclaw. The last game had been another win against Slytherin. Luna had asked her to attend this one as well. It had given her the excuse needed to show up and watch.
"It’s almost over," Luna didn’t point out the reason she assumed so. Potter had disappeared to dip behind one of the stands. She knew exactly where Harry got his skills from. The game was already won, little chance of Ravenclaw turning things around. Even if their seeker caught the snitch, Gryffindor would win. As much as she enjoyed watching Potter play, it was also amusing to watch Sirius at times but her mind kept wandering towards the male sitting the rows in front of her. The thick sandy blonde hair moved as he turned to watch their friend dive suddenly to the right. A month had passed since she had arrived and not much had changed. Except with the change of her permanent transfiguration partner. She didn’t mind sharing Lily with the man she knew would one day sire Harry. It was sweet to watch the two talk while pretending that they weren’t hopelessly smitten with the other.
Lily sighed as Potter caught the snitch. Only an hour into the game and it was over. She leaned towards the blonde, "could she be any more obvious?" It was hard to say anything through the roar of the crowd. She did want to get into the wining spirit but didn’t want to be put in the same category as the other shouting fans. Especially like the girl that was now snuggling up against Remus’ side. Peter didn’t seem too happy with the interruption. She had noticed the way her new friend had stiffened the moment the other girl had taken a seat next to the Marauder.
"She just has the courage to do what her friends wouldn’t. Being a slag aside, you got to give her credit." Luna had noticed the girl sitting down immediately. Just like Lily was noticing as several girls ran onto the field to swoon over the grinning Seeker. It wasn’t the first time she had witnessed a girl trying to win his affections. Not as many as Sirius Black but enough to be noticed.
"It’s a waste of time," Lily pointed out regardless. At the most the girl would receive boasting rights. In a way she wondered about his methods of dealing with females. She knew that he had been with a few girls. Being what he was he tended to distance himself. If only he could find the right girl that would look past his lycanthropy. Someone like Luna. "You’ve got to admit that he is handsome."
Yes, she would admit that to herself. Luna stood as the crowd began to disperse. She took note of him allowing the girl to hold onto his arm as the two began descending together. No shock that it was Catherine Brown. There would be a party in the Common Room. She had to hand it to Potter, he never let the flirting affect his actions. It didn’t matter how many girls tried to get his attention, he never gave in to their attempts. "Have you decided who to ask to Slughorn’s party?"
It was only three weeks away. Slughorn had invited her with several others to his party before the holidays. Luna had also been invited when they had gotten into a long discussion about her family lineage. Lily knew who she wanted to invite but wasn’t sure how to go about it. Would he say yes? Would he take it as a joke? "I was thinking about asking James."
That guaranteed at least one of them would have a date. Luna had no idea who she should ask. She enjoyed spending time with her former professor. In class he was always polite, sweet and attentive. They often spoke about their interests and family. The only time he had become defensive was after a full moon when she had asked him if he was alright. While Lupin was turning out to be a semi-friend, Black went out of his way to openly flirt with her. "That’s a great idea, I’m sure he’ll agree."
"Maybe, but will he take it seriously? I’ll hex him if he laughs or makes some snide comment about me finally thawing. What am I supposed to do? I don’t want to compete with his fans." Lily openly scowled at the group of fans walking towards the castle. All tonight she’d have to deal with several girls hanging on the male she was slowly admitting to wanting. "I would ask Black if it wasn’t so obvious that you’re his latest target."
"You mean he wants to win that bet." Luna had already heard the rumors that there was a bet on how long it would take Black to get her in bed. She wouldn’t be a notch to help someone win some stupid gold quill. She would admit that Black was very sexy in a dark way. That easy smile, that smooth voice and charming personality made him dangerous. Almost as dangerous as the werewolf that was walking ahead. If either were her type, it’d be her future professor. He was intelligent, cute, sweet and had an air of excitement. However, the werewolf didn’t seem to be the least bit interested in her.
~
"I’m going to ask him," Lily boasted the moment she came through, wearing a huge smile. She found both of her friends sitting silently on the couch. It was no shock to see Alice flipping though a muggle magazine and Luna working on her Charm’s essay. This was the moment, she had debated all week on how to finally get around to asking Potter out. After their interaction in potions she was positive he’d agree. The problem was she didn’t want to appear desperate or needy. It was wonderful that Luna had yet to get a date.
Luna barely glanced up from her text to acknowledge the announcement. It was about time in her opinion. She would be glad when the ginger put them all out of her misery. If she had to deal with any more glaring she would throw herself off of the Astronomy Tower. It didn’t help that Potter had been foolish enough to openly flirt in front of Evans. That had caused Lily to become extremely irate at them both. Luna had gotten her to calm down hours later by reminding her new friend that he only did it to get a reaction, it meant nothing. She took it no more seriously than when Sirius Black did it. Well, Black had a more blunt way of showing his interest. He had already asked her out seventeen times in the last month.
"I got a plan, I’m goi...." Lily was forced to become silent as the portrait swung open to reveal the four Mauraders. This was it. She only had a few days before the party and she wasn’t going to allow him to go with another. She had to do something. The idea had come to her at dinner when she had noticed the not-so indifferent Lupin watching her friend most intently. He wasn’t as oblivious as he wanted them to believe. Black wasn’t the only male aware of how special and beautiful Luna was. This was her chance, "Oh hi, can I speak with you for a moment, Potter?"
"Eh, alright." James almost stepped back as she approached. What had he done now? The only times she wanted to speak to him directly outside of lessons was when he’d done something to piss her off. That wide smile only made his stomach knot further in fear or was it anticipation? Even if it turned out to be another lecture, she was paying attention to him. Moony had warned him about hexing the girl’s toilets to have tongues. "Did I do something?"
"Not that I’ve heard recently, or is there something you want to tell me?" She knew all about his little trick with the girl’s loo. After hearing several females wanting to thank him she didn’t want to bring up the topic. Not only would she be doing something for herself she’d be doing her friend a favor. "I was wanting to inquire as to your plans on next Friday. You see Luna and I have been invited to Slughorn’s party. I was wondering if you and Remus would do us the honor of attending with us. I mean seeing as you two are our partners during the class. It seems only fitting that you come along as well."
"You’re asking me out?!" James couldn’t believe it. The moment he’d been waiting on for the last three years. Wait, she wanted Remus to tag along for Luna’s partner. Dammit, what if Moony wouldn’t go along with it. He never attended any of the affairs. Would he have to turn down the offer? "I’d love to but I’m not sure if I can speak for him."
"Well, if he won’t, I’d gladly be her partner for the evening." Sirius spoke up before his friend could. Moony never went to the gatherings. The werewolf didn’t like being around a lot of people. Perhaps this was his chance to spend some quality time with the girl. It irritated him that she constantly disregarded all of his attention. He wanted her to see past all the rumors, he really liked her. For weeks he’d watched her interact with the others. Any girl was a keeper if she could be sweet to Peter simply because that was who she was. Beautiful, smart and extremely kind. Some of the things she said could be a bit odd but that made her unique. The most he got from her was politeness, which only made him want her more.
Luna gasped at the audacity of the girl! Had she just went about procuring a double date without asking her permission ahead of time? What if she didn’t want to go with Black? Everyone knew that Lupin wouldn’t agree to it. She didn’t want to put up with Black’s constant flirting for an entire evening. Should she interrupt and claim to already have a date? Then she’d look like a fool and a liar to boot.
"I’ll go," Remus almost growled out a nasty comment when his friend instantly tried to intrude upon his invitation. He wasn’t an idiot. It was as clear as the nose on his face that the mutt wanted the girl. Another notch for him to boast about. He was just thankful that she was too bright to fall for the shameless attention. He did want to go. Being around a lot of people would be stressful on his nerves but the idea of getting a chance to spend an entire evening in her company. Most likely him being invited along was a way for Evans to save pride. He didn’t mind. "What time shall we be ready?"
~
"This dress makes my arse look flat." Lily ran a hand over her bottom while looking into the mirror. It had looked good on her in the store. The dark green gown shimmered all the way to the knees. The top was strapless and clung to her form. Why couldn’t she look as stunning as her friend? Not many could wear white without showing off their imperfections. Luna was wearing a flowing white gown covered in lace. Both had their hair piled high with the use of many clips. "Should I put ribbons in my hair?"
"You look stunning, I’m sure you will soon be on your way making baby Harry." Luna jerked the top of her own garment because it looked crooked. The problem was she didn’t have enough cleavage to make it wear correctly. Maybe a quick charm to make her breasts grow. What she wouldn’t give for bigger ones. Why did she have to be so petite? It was no wonder someone like Remus Lupin would overlook her for other girls with more appeal.
"It’ll be a long time before we get there but that’s not a bad idea. The name I mean. I’ve always liked it. Stop laughing, I wasn’t referring to the shagging. Though, that might not be bad either. Do you think he’d want to? I’ll be lucky if I get a kiss wearing this dress." Lily fussed over the tiny blemish that was wanting to burst through the skin upon her chin at any given second. Perhaps some makeup would cover up the flaw.
"In that dress you’ll be lucky if he doesn’t try more than kiss. I wonder what it’d be like. I mean to kiss Lupin, not Potter. No worries, he’s all yours. I’d rather be invaded by Nargles than to snog your future husband." The idea of touching Harry’s father was cringe worthy. She’d rather kiss Black. That wasn’t an unappealing idea either. "I’m a sad sort of person. You’re worrying over your state of dress to impress the man of your heart and I’m wondering which of his friends would be the better kisser."
"Please, say one of them isn’t Peter." Lily made a gagging noise at the idea. He gave her the creeps. She couldn’t tell Potter who to befriend but that one was starting to make her skin crawl. The way he was always ogling Luna was strange. "You’re not a horrible person. It’s natural to be curious. You aren’t dating either of them so it’s okay to let your young mind explore perverse images of handsome wizards. As long as he doesn’t have dark hair and wear glasses."
Luna wasn’t so sure. She knew she liked her future professor. He had the kind of personality that would endear him to the opposite sex. Just as Black’s flirtatious manner would make them blush and want to giggle hysterically. What she needed was for the Headmaster to figure out how to get her home so she could return to pondering the state of Malfoy’s undress. Thinking about two men that would not live past the second war was a waste of time. She gave her reflection one last look before following Lily out of the room.
There were a few comments of good luck and to enjoy their evening as they descended the stairs. The Common Room was packed with everyone enjoying the last weekend before the holidays. Luna’s eyes instantly tried to search out her date but it was hard to see anything with so many people. She did however manage to spot the curly dark hair of Sirius Black before he turned to see what all the fuss was about. Her cheeks flared in response to the heated look. Dark grey eyes bore into her, making her want to squirm.
"There you are, you look stunning." James rushed past Longbottom seeing his beloved standing at the bottom of the staircase. She did indeed look fetching. That excuse of a gown left nothing to the imagination and he had imagined a lot over the years. He’d love to see if she felt as good as she looked. "We were wondering if we were going to get stood up."
"The thought crossed my mind." Lily muttered as he extended his hand. She was really nervous about the date. What if she did something to mess up the date? Would he change his mind about her? Now she regretted making him wait so long. What if she had made him wait too long? No, she wouldn’t believe that. Luna had assured her that if she wanted this then she was to go for it. And she wanted James Potter.
"You look beautiful," Remus spoke softly so only his date could hear. He didn’t need the others to listen in on the conversation. He was only saying what every other male there was thinking. And if the mutt didn’t stop gawking he was going to make sure to take it out on him during the next full moon. He indicated that she should take his elbow. Now he appreciated the dress robes Prongs had let him borrow. Standing next to her would have been embarrassing. He hadn’t wanted to disrespect her by showing up in old robes.
"Thank you," she wanted to tell him that he looked good enough to claw but they were being made to follow the other couple. Neither spoke on the way to Slughorn’s office. By the time they arrived it was already in full swing. The room was decorated the same as it had been when she had attended it with Harry. The man must use the same props every time. She remained by his side as Lily stopped to say hello to their host. While the three spoke to the Professor she didn’t care for she looked around the room. Seeing the mistletoe hanging in the same place brought back painful memories. She could remember hoping that just for that night Harry would forget about Ginny long enough to follow tradition. It hadn’t happened.
"Why don’t we grab something to drink? Ladies, we’ll return shortly." James nodded towards their host to grab his reluctant friend on the elbow. They needed to have a serious talk. He couldn’t believe he was going to do this. He knew how Sirius felt about the girl, or seemed to think how he felt. What these idiots didn’t realize was that the girls chased Padfoot, not the other way around. This meant ruining something for the one he thought of as a brother but he knew what he saw. Evans was brilliant. If she invited Moony to come along then it meant that her friend wanted that friend to come, not the other. "What are you doing?"
"Getting something to drink?" Remus asked at the scathing tone. What had he done now? They had just arrived. Besides Prongs knew how he felt about social functions. If not for the fact that he wanted to be around his companion for the evening he would rather be in bed reading a good book.
"Not what I mean. I mean with Luna." James sighed as they neared the table. He leaned in closer so no one else would overhear the discussion. "Look, she’s not your average bird. I’m not sure if I should want to help you or Padfoot. The thing is I believe Evans invited you because you’re the one she’s interested in. My question is what are you going to do about it?"
"Nothing, because nothing can come from it." He knew she might be curious but that would end quickly. He couldn’t allow himself to get serious about anyone. To do so would only hurt her in the long run. What girl could accept what he was? Someone like Luna would eventually want someone more to her standards to marry. No one wanted a poor half-blooded werewolf. There would be no point in getting attached to a girl he couldn’t keep.
"That’s a load of shite and you know it. She’s a sweet girl, so what is your issue? You obviously don’t want Padfoot to have her but you aren’t going to pursue her yourself. As a friend I’m telling you that some things are worth the risk. Don’t push away something that can make you happy because of fear. Give it a chance."
With that he was left alone to contemplate what was said. Remus’ mind forgot the punch before heading back to where the blonde was waiting. Instead of obtaining their excuse of walking off, he let his mind wonder what to do. The problem was he did like her. He’d only spent time with her in class for a few weeks but he felt like he knew her. They got on exceptionally well. He didn’t want to think about how his other half reacted to her presence. Every time she got too close his blood would rush south. Some of the things she said, he felt like she could accept him regardless of his condition. He was too scared to hope that she could. What if he let this chance slip him by? Standing there looking skyward was a beautiful witch that would always smile when she saw him. Could he let this pass by?
Her mind was remembering the last time she’d been at one of Slughorn’s parties. So much had happened since then. It wasn’t too long ago but felt like a lifetime. After her capture, the death of her father and returning to school, it was another period in her life. Now she was stuck in the past for an undetermined amount of time. Was it wrong for her to enjoy the time spent with people she knew would not live to that point in her time?
"Would you care to dance?" He asked before he could stop himself. The music was soft and the other couple had already taken to the floor. He couldn’t help it, the wistful look on her face made him want to play in the thick hair. Why had she put it up? It just accented the pale throat that begged for a man’s teeth. He wanted to nibble and lick along the pulse. She brought her attention back to him. He was glad when she didn’t comment on the lack of beverages.
Luna took the hand being offered and let him escort her to the dance floor. He turned to face her before placing a hand on her hip. The other continued to gently hold her own. Their height difference became more apparent as she placed her other upon his shoulder. The lean form dwarfed her smaller one. It should have made her nervous but knowing him, it brought about a sense of peace and belonging. She knew he would never hurt her or anyone he cared about. Dancing with her was a kind soul, a good man.
He was evil. Remus almost swore as instinct had him pulling the petite frame closer. The music didn’t really call for them to be so close. It brought the small firm breast against his abdomen. Not only did she smell wonderful, she felt heavenly pressed into him. The dainty fingers couldn’t quit wrap around his neck completely which left the tips to lightly rest on the side of his throat. He was sure he’d have no problem supporting her weight. Though she may have some serious issues holding on if things were to get physical. He could almost imagine what it’d be like to have those pale arms wrapped around his back, clawing deep as he drove into..."Do you have any plans for the holidays?"
"I’m going to remain here. There is no point in going home so I thought I’d just relax a bit. How about you?" There was nowhere else for her to go. Lily had asked her to come to her house during the holidays. After hearing Harry speak about his aunt Luna was sure she didn’t want to meet the younger version of the woman. It was best if she stayed behind and helped Dumbledore search for answers. That way she could remember that she wasn’t staying permanently and that any temptation to kiss her future professor was not a good idea. He was a good man, he didn’t need to have her playing with his emotions. He would suffer enough in his life.
Suffer. The Battle at the Ministry. The look upon his face as he arrived with the others to save Harry. Someone had her in a tight grip, a strong arm around her throat. The pressure increased as Malfoy spoke softly to Harry. The buzzing was getting worse as the oxygen was partially cut off from the man’s grip. She wanted to shout for Harry not to hand it over. They had all came along knowing they could be in danger.
In a flash someone appeared in a blur to stand between her friend and the death eater. Just as quickly something knocked the one holding her away, making it possible to rush forward. She stumbled to retrieve her fallen wand. Without being asked someone grabbed her elbow. She recognized the Auror Tonks for who she was. It became frantic as she was almost hit with a hex. There, a death eater was attacking Hermione and Ginny. She rushed forward to throw a stun. There was screaming, making her ears ring. Her name, someone had screamed. She spun at the sound believing that once again she would be the victim of a nasty curse.
Her eyes widened to see that it wasn’t a Death Eater but Sirius Black. Up until that point she had seen him fighting alongside his Godson to hold off Lucius Malfoy. It was her name that escaped his mouth as the eerie shout of a killing curse made her blood run cold.
"Are you alright?" Remus used a finger to lift her chin. It meant releasing her waist since she had a tight grip on his other hand. What was wrong? She had suddenly gone stiff and her eyes had gone vacant. It wasn’t the first time she had dazed out. Was it something she did often? Or was it just his company?
Was that a memory? Her mind brought up the memory and what she had seen. It was all the same except for the part of him calling out her name. Was it a warning? That the man may recognize her in the future? She didn’t think her future professor would or he hadn’t. Or would all that change? It was all confusing, it was going to make her head hurt. Not to mention she was probably making her date concerned. She lifted her gaze to assure him that all was well. "I’m fine, just thinking. See, mistletoe!"
Mistletoe? Indeed, there was one hanging directly above them. Was that the reason for her reaction. Was she wondering if he’d follow tradition? Should he? Would she allow it? There was only one way to find out. Without worrying about the consequences, he leaned down. If she didn’t want it he was sure she’d evade it in time. Going slow ensured that he gave her the option to avoid the kiss if she so chose to do so. Instead of turning her head, she lifted up to meet him halfway. The first brush of lips was sweet, soft and innocent.
Nice, nothing like the kiss she’d shared with Neville. Not even close. Even their chaste of kisses had felt like kissing a board. His lips were soft and full, very warm. The gentle pressure didn’t last long before something hot and wet slid across her bottom lip. It was so unexpected she gasped at the sensation. It was enough to allow him to further his intentions. The brush of his tongue gliding timidly into her mouth was something she’d only experienced twice with Neville. Her former semi-boyfriend had preferred to keep their kissing dry. This was wet but not messy. A jolt that could only be pleasure tingled in her gut as it deepened. She did her best to taste and explore as he did the same. The fingers that had been on her chin trailed to cup behind her neck.
He could tell that she was inexperienced. The kiss was returned timidly at first. He was worried that he was pressing too far until she began to respond with equal fervor. Despite being timid it had his pulse quickening. His mind ceased to think about their surroundings. He somehow managed to free the hand she’d been gripping in order to wrap his arm around the tiny waist. She didn’t protest to being lifted. It gave him greater leverage to nibble on her bottom lip. The soft moan sent shivers of anticipation straight to his hard cock.
"Eh hem," James went as far as to poke the purring werewolf a jab to the ribs. The two split apart, sort of. The kiss stopped but the blonde was still being held in a high embrace. He was all for a show but Slughorn appeared ready to pop a vein. "As much as we’d love a show, this isn’t the place for it. Maybe later once we get back in the dorm."
"Hush," Lily smiled as the blonde was placed back on her feet. The two looked cute together. Who would have thought it possible. Here she was thinking she’d have to convince the Marauder to get over his self-loathing. Did this mean they were official? She’d heard many rumors and tales of the werewolf’s prowess in bed but she was positive she’d never seen him kiss someone. "And here I thought only we had good news to share."
"What good news?" Remus asked instead of cursing the two for interrupting. He’d thank them later for preventing him from doing something embarrassing. Like trying to remove the dress from their friend. He wanted to do more than remove the flimsy garment. He wanted to place her on the nearest table and make her beg to cum. Doing so wouldn’t help him win her affections. He didn’t think he’d be satisfied with having her once or for a casual release of tension.
"I have finally gotten the lovely Evans to agree to be mine. I think this is a cause for celebration." James patted Moony on the shoulder happily. Only in the back of his mind did he wonder how his beloved brother would take this outcome.
~
Remus felt horrible, like hell. It was only five days before the full moon and later today everyone would be gone for the holidays. He was remaining behind because his parents were out of town visiting friends. He had no problems remaining at school. What was causing him concern was the fact that Sirius was angry with him. With good cause. Due to Prongs and Evans, it was going around that he and Luna were an official couple. As much as he longed to be, he wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do. He was risking a friendship over something that probably wouldn’t last. A small part of him wanted to convince the girl to give Padfoot a chance and a large part of him wanted to rip his friend’s eyes out for so much as looking at her.
There was also the fact that she was staying behind for the holidays. Meaning they were the only two in Gryffindor. What would happen when it was just the two of them? He knew what he’d be tempted to do. If she allowed it, he’d be all over her. How was he going to handle being alone with her? There was no way she wasn’t going to notice some things. Like him being in the infirmary or his appearance. His friends helped him usually during that time but they’d be gone. He may be forced to tell her a few things and that would end the relationship before it began. He knew she wasn’t the type to spread the fact but that didn’t mean she’d be okay with dating his kind.
"Morning," Luna was surprised when he jumped at the sound of her voice. Everyone had been busy packing so she had come down to sit in front of the fire. Seeing them getting ready to visit their families made her a little homesick. Her mood had lifted spotting him sitting as well. They hadn’t spoken since they had said goodnight the previous evening. She had already heard the rumors and hoped he didn’t mind. On the way down the stairs two other girls had asked if it were true. Had she really done the impossible and got one of the Marauders to commit. Unsure of how to answer she had merely shrugged. Now seeing the look on his face she was kind of glad she hadn’t confirmed things.
Did she have to look so innocent? He wasn’t sure if he should say what needed to be said. He’d rather keep her friendship than have her turn him down for something he couldn’t change. If only he weren’t cursed. It was best if she went out with someone like Sirius instead of him. "I assume you heard the rumors thanks to our friends."
Of course she had. Was that the reason for the anger? She knew the emotion enough to recognize it. Months of seeing it and hearing it while being held prisoner had shown her a great deal of reality. Why was he angry? Had she done something she didn’t know about. Or was the notion of being with her that disagreeable? She knew the rumors but had wanted to believe that he could be faithful and focus on one person. After all, he had gotten married in the future. But that had been to a witch he obviously loved. In that truth lay the difference. He was still young and there was no way he could love her. It was an emotion that would one day belong to a wonderful Auror. A woman that would one day bless him with a child. "I heard."
"Then you can understand why I’m about to say this. It’s not going to happen." He felt like an arse seeing the hurt and confusion cross the pale features. Small hurt now to save her later suffering. He wouldn’t allow her to get attached to him only to destroy her softness with the horrible truth. "I enjoyed last night, I did. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed myself. What I’m trying to say is that there can be no us. It’s not how I do things. Trust me, I know our friends would like nothing more than to make us into a couple. The simple fact is, is that I’m not interested in more than some fun. Knowing this I will not lead you on because I’d like to consider you a friend." Would she scream and holler?
No, she wasn’t the type to yell. Luna felt no satisfaction as her hand cracked across his face loud enough to echo in the Common Room. The few that had hung around to hear the speech were just as shocked at the bold move. From the stunned look he was wearing he hadn’t been expecting it either. Luna felt little to no satisfaction noticing the blood trailing down his chin. It wasn’t coming from his nose so she didn’t feel too bad at causing the split lip. She knew those that were listening and watching would believe that she had struck him from a broke heart. Her heart was indeed hurt but not for herself. She ached over his attitude towards himself. She’d heard that the Auror had taken some serious emotional punishment trying to convince the werewolf to be with her. If this was his attitude no wonder it had taken someone like Tonks to break through. What saddened Luna more was she didn’t believe she had what it took to get through to him. She wasn’t strong-willed or brave.
Angry over his callous attitude and his easy dismissal of their time together, she stood knowing she didn’t have it in her to fight for something that wasn’t meant to be hers to begin with. He did nothing but stare as she leaned forward. Not to kiss him farewell but to whisper the one thing he didn’t expect to hear. "One day you will try to push away the one thing that will matter most. I only pray that by then you will have gotten over your self-loathing in time to realize that to love is to not only accept one’s flaws but to love them for being who they are despite them. The only monster I see is the cold one before me now, not the one that comes during the full moon."
Unable to look back at his face, knowing she’d see nothing but a dismissal she spun on her heels. She wouldn’t cry in front of him. Nor would she give everyone something more to gossip about over the holidays. With her head held high, she walked away from the Common Room. The tears didn’t threaten to come until she got a good distance away. She wasn’t sure why she was so upset. She knew that he eventually got over his attitude. It just hurt because she had liked him.
"There you are, Ms. Lovegood." Albus grinned seeing the girl staring ahead as if lost in thought. He was glad he had found her. This was perfect timing in his opinion. Soon this mistake would be corrected. He’d make sure she returned home safely. It couldn’t have come at a better time. "Why don’t we head to my office? I’ve got a few things to inform you of."
"Alright," she had nothing better to do. Maybe speaking of other things would take her mind off what had just happened. She walked towards the man’s office in a daze. Had he found anything to reverse the spell? Soon enough they were standing before the gargoyle. Would they be done in time so she could see her friends off? She wanted to walk with them to the carriages. The last thing she expected to see upon entering the office was a steaming cup of alcohol. She had never known that the man was a heavy drinker.
"It’s not alcohol, my dear. True, it smells strongly of firewhiskey but I assure you it is not. What you see before you is the means to your return. It’s taken weeks but I have discovered the potion to counteract your small mistake. Perfect time, if I do say so myself. If you drink the potion now then you’ll have enough time to see Ms. Evans off. I do suggest that you tell them that I suddenly called you to my office to inform you that your parents wish you home. After the holidays I’ll inform the others that your parents wrote to say that they have decided you should continue your education elsewhere."
"So, I’m going home?" So soon? He hadn’t given her any kind of warning. Just like that she was going to leave everything behind. Of course, he expected her to do just that. She had known from the beginning she wasn’t meant to remain. Everyone she had met would go on about their lives as if she had never stepped into them. This was the best way. Not like she had a reason to remain. Lily would marry James and things would go according to fate. At least she had gotten to meet the people that were responsible to bringing about such a wonderful savior. She had to leave and she’d do so with no regrets. "Will I depart immediately?"
"No, it will take about twenty-four hours for the potion to take effect. I’m afraid I must insist you take it in my presence before departing my office. The future is something that shouldn’t be changed. A big impact could destroy everything we’ve worked hard for. Please, drink the potion." Albus knew she had come attached to a few of her fellow Gryffindors. Regrettably, things had to be this way. Her life was in the future, she had to return. With a frown the girl grabbed the goblet and down the contents. "Yes, what did you expect it to taste like?"
"Not Nargle piss." Luna coughed as her stomach burned under protest. That had been the nastiest thing she’d ever drank. The putrid liquid now in her system would ensure she only had a day to say her goodbyes. "Oh, I gotta see Lily off. I want to say goodbye. What about my things? I can’t take them with me."
"I’ll take care of that once you have departed. No one will be the wiser as to the true nature of your absence. It was nice meeting you Ms. Lovegood and Godspeed."
She gave him a smile before darting back down the staircase. Would she be too late to say goodbye? The run to the Common Rooms proved that almost everyone had already departed. Not even the lone wolf remained in the place. Probably seeing the others off as well. Swearing repeatedly she wanted to curse the Headmaster for not waiting. What were the chances she’d get to them before they got on the carriages to take them to the train?
~
They were gone. Luna crossed her arms as she watched the bird coast along the water’s surface unaware how it was tempting fate. She’d already caught sight of the giant squid twice since coming to sit. Two hours had passed since she had discovered that the last of the carriages had already pulled off. Alice and Lily would already be on the train with no idea that she wouldn’t be here upon their return. There was no one to tell. When she had gone back to the Common Room it had been to find it as empty and a note waiting for her upon the bed. Lily’s script had explained that James had convinced Remus to go home with him during the holidays. The reason for the sudden departure couldn’t be explained in the letter but Lily had promised to fill her in after the holidays.
Most likely it was to calm the werewolf down. Or to help him out during his transformation which would be in a few days. Whatever the reason she wouldn’t be seeing any of them again. When she returned they’d all be gone. They would never know how much their friendship had meant to her. She’d have to show her gratitude by being a better friend towards Harry. As soon as she got home. "Home."
"So, you’re really leaving?" Sirius couldn’t bring himself to smirk as the girl spun around at the sound of his voice. He didn’t want to believe what he’d heard. By now the others should realize that he wasn’t on the train. He’d told them he’d catch up to them later but he couldn’t bring himself to leave after what he’d overheard. He was positive the Headmaster hadn’t realized that he had followed them or had stood at the bottom of the staircase listening to every word being said. Just as Prongs hadn't noticed that he'd taken the cloak.
"Sirius?" She couldn’t bring herself to call him Black. Not knowing what she did. How did he know? She hadn’t gotten the chance to tell anyone. Why did he look so sad? What was he doing here? "What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be on the train? I thought you were spending the holidays with the Potters."
"That was the plan until I got curious as to why the Headmaster would seek you out. I hid hoping to hear something interesting. I didn’t expect to hear what I did so I stayed behind." He had to hear it from her own mouth. It couldn’t be true. The idea of her being from the future was astounding. Knowing that she was about to leave and never return left a bitter sensation in his chest. "Are you really from the future?"
Unsure of how he knew she patted the ground next to her. He took the cue and sat down next to her. What to tell him. He had obviously heard what had been said. Might as well own up to it. "What I tell you, you cannot tell the others. I’m from twenty years from now. There was an accident during potions class that brought me here. My own stupidity and annoyance at Slughorn’s teaching methods."
"Merlin’s balls, are you telling me that git is still teaching? I was hoping Dumbledore would get around to firing him." Sirius was glad that he managed to get somewhat of a smile from her. Leaving must be hard on her. He knew she had gotten close to Evans. Not to mention a very undeserving wolf.
"I think he did retire for a few years but he returns. To make this short, because I’m not allowed to disclose what I know, I’m going back. It saddens me. I’ll miss everyone but it’s for the best." And the Headmaster was wrong about the time she’d have. Either her time was running out or she was gaining the ability to hear Ginny’s voice across space and time. "Thanks for coming to speak to me. I know we haven’t had that much of an opportunity to spend time together but."
"But nothing. You’re leaving and there is no way I can ask you to remain since the Headmaster has already seen to that." He didn’t want to see her leave. Even if it meant she’d end up with Moony. People like her were rare. He knew he wouldn’t be able to tell the others. It would be their secret. "I won’t tell the others. Not that they’d believe me. I’d ask if we ever meet again in the future but I know you can’t tell me."
"No, I can’t." She’d love to warn him about Peter’s betrayal to spare him prison but knew she couldn’t. To do so could completely alter her reality. She had to let the past play out. "What I want to do is ask that you never change. No matter what happens never forget who you are. Even if things ever seem so horrible you want to give up, don’t forget that you’re a wonderful person. If a bit careless."
"Just one of my many charms. Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. I guess you’re going soon." A strange mist was beginning to form around her. There went his chance to seduce her before she left. Well, if she was leaving he might as well send her off correctly. Without worrying about getting the same treatment as Moony, he quickly leaned forward to place a chaste kiss on the corner of her mouth. "Pity, I could’ve made you love me."
He may have. Luna smiled as she felt the tugging in her core. There was no preventing the pull seconds before she lost sight of his smiling face. One second she was contemplating how easy it may have been to fall for someone like Sirius Black and the next darkness consumed her. It was almost as quick as falling asleep.
~
"It’s about bloody time." Ginny sighed with relief as her friend began to stir. It was about time. The effects of the smoke were about out of Luna’s system. Slughorn assured them that the miscalculation only caused her to momentarily disappear for several minutes, nothing permanent. Which had to be true because only four minutes after the blast Luna had returned. Besides being unconscious and coughing the blonde appeared to be well. "Can you hear me?"
Where was she? Why did her head feel like Bellatrix had been playing with her again? Had someone cursed her? Was she still sitting at the lake? That didn’t sound like Sirius or any of the others. Had she fallen asleep? Or had she fainted when he kissed her? "Sirius?"
"Huh? No, how hard did you hit your head? I can understand being mistaken for my mum at times but not Harry’s godfather. It’s me, Ginny." The ginger leaned forward as blue eyes opened slowly. The light of recognition eased the concern that had been boiling since the accident. "Great, I assume you know who I am. You had us worried. Don’t go blowing up any more cauldrons. Slughorn didn’t stop ranting for hours when you wouldn’t immediately wake up. You’ve been out for a few hours. How do you feel?"
"A little groggy but okay. I had a weird dream." It had been a weird dream after all. Had any of that happened? It couldn’t have if she hadn’t been missing for months. Why would she dream of the past of all things? Was her future so bleak she had to dream of living in the past? Not only living in the past but finding dead friends of Harry’s parents likeable. "I dreamt I met Harry’s parents and the Marauders."
"You must have hit your head pretty hard but I’m glad you’re okay. Although I should scold you for pulling that stunt. Now Hermione is on a rampage against Slughorn. She’s never approved of his teaching methods and is now starting a debate with the Headmistress on him being allowed to remain in his position." Ginny reached for the potion waiting on the bedside table. "Here, take this for your headache. As I was saying, she even wrote to Harry believing he’d have more sway than her."
"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause any problems. It was my own fault for not following directions." Luna wanted to return to sleep. Why did she have to wake up? Was it because in her dream she was returning to her own time? Or had that been her subconscious warning her that she was about to wake? "How is Harry doing? Overlooking the fact that Hermione is trying to draw him into another of her campaigns."
"Wonderful, if a tad worried as well. He said to Owl him as soon as you woke. I know he has been a bit under the weather lately with everything but he’s holding in there. I’m just thankful that he has Sirius since I can’t be there for him while I’m here." Ginny knew that the trial of the caught Death Eaters was stressful. Some were still on the loose and having many wanting to still protect him had Harry lashing out.
What had she said? "Sirius? As in Sirius Black? But he’s dead." Luna wondered how the deceased man could be there for his Godson when he had been slain years ago. That wasn’t possible. What did Ginny mean? She had seen him die, they all had.
"Cute, don’t make me insist that your head gets checked. Why would you say that? I know he came close a few times but the last time I visited Harry the man looked very much alive. In fact he looked right peachy while nursing a bottle."
Impossible. How could that have changed? What else had changed? Luna was sure that her memories were correct. Or were they? Or had what she thought were visions something more? Hadn’t her trip to the past been a dream? What if it wasn’t? What if she had really gone back and changed something? Like Sirius Black dying at the hands of his cousin? "Must have been a dream. What about Fred? Lupin or Tonks?"
"They said your memory may be hazy for a few days so I’ll answer. Fred is gone, he was killed in the last battle. Lupin was seriously injured but is doing a lot better. From what I hear Tonks still hasn’t returned to work in order to remain home with him. Harry says his recovery was slowed tremendously with his monthly transformations but he’s doing a lot better. Remember, they are supposed to show up for the Christmas party in three months." Ginny patted her hand affectionately. "Don’t worry, the knock to your head will have you disoriented for a few days."
It was a little much to take in. Had she gone to the past and changed things? Or had her memories always been there and the past she thought she remembered wasn’t what was real? No, she could clearly remember everything. It could only leave one option, her going back had caused a slight ripple in time. What had she done and what should she do now?
A/n: Please keep in mind Luna was only in the past for a few weeks, not long enough to form a sexual relationship with anyone. Sorry no smut on this part. Maybe the next one. Please review.
