Chapter Two-
Harry woke up with a jolt when they came to a pretty hard stop. Pulling his wand out, Harry relaxed after a few seconds when he realized there was nothing around.
"What was that about?" Harry asked, putting his wand away and rubbing at his eyes.
"Sorry there's a barrier up that stopped us from going any further. I think you'll have to go up to it first before it will let us through."
Nodding, Harry slid off of the motorcycle and moved towards the front of the bike. As soon as he got near the front tire, he felt tendrils of energy and magic start caressing and intertwining with his own magic. A few seconds later, with the sound of a lock unlatching, the wards in front of them shifted and allowed them entrance to the property.
As the wards parted like fog to allow them entrance, Harry caught sight of the house. It was a single story tan house with a black border on the bottom and just above and below the casement windows. The roof was a lighter red color and directly in the middle of the roof was a small second story, most likely an attic. The front door and the two steps leading up to the front door was black as well.
The house was surrounded with an abundance of trees, many with pink and red leaves and at the back of the house there was a detached white garage. The grass was a little overgrown and needed a good seeing too, but the house looked like it was still in good condition.
"The house sits on about four acres of land. There are two empty buildings in the back. One was a greenhouse and the other was a stable for horses. There's also a small corral for any horses for during the nice weather." Sirius explained as parked the motorcycle and shut it off.
"Does that mean I might get to live here? I could avoid Dumbledore trying to suggest I take the position as DADA Professor this year so I'd have a place to stay?"
Snorting, Sirius said, "As if I'd leave you with no place to stay. If you didn't have a place you would have stayed with me. Interfering old goat."
Laughing, Harry said, "So should we go in?"
"Of course." Handing Harry an old key, Sirius said, "The house belongs to you now. The wards wouldn't have let us through if it wasn't meant to be."
Grinning, Harry took the key and made his way up the stone pathway then up the few steps and unlocked the door. Pushing open the door, Harry stepped into the first room. It was a large living room which had plain white walls and a cream colored rug. The room wasn't furnished, but there was a black fireplace against the back wall along with a large nook above it. All of the walls had an abundance of windows so there wasn't really any place to put anything on the walls.
Feeling Sirius behind him, Harry made his way further into the house after kicking off his shoes. At the end of the living room there was a doorway and a short hallway that went further back into the house.
Moving into the doorway, Harry entered a kitchen that was almost as large as the living room. The floor was a dark wooden tile and the walls were white like the living room. There was a breakfast bar in the middle of the room with a dark bottom and a gray and white linoleum top which matched the cabinets and counter tops of the entire kitchen. Walking further into the room, Harry took note of the shorter counter space on the other side of the bar along with the drawers on the bar.
The sink was directly below the windows in the room and was a shining silver color that matched the fridge exactly. The room was big enough that even with the breakfast bar, a large dining room table could fit into the room. It would be perfect if Harry ever had a large party and needed more space than the four or five available seats at the bar.
Exiting the kitchen Harry went down the hallway and opened the first door on the left. It was a large bedroom painted a pale blue with a white rug. The back wall had a large bay window that looked out into the moderate sized backyard. The right wall only had a door on it. The left wall had a two door sliding closet and there was also a door that looked like it led to the backyard. Looking up at the ceiling, Harry was surprised to see a skylight with slightly tinted windows to soften the amount of light streaming into the room.
Moving to the other door in the hall, Harry swung it open to find a bedroom almost exactly like the other one minus the door leading to the outside and the other door in the room, the walls were pained pink instead of blue, and the closet was on the right.
Entering the last door in the hall, Harry was blown away by the bathroom. It was fairly large and directly across from the door was the medicine cabinet and sink. To the left of the sink was a platform with two steps leading up to a large square, sunken tub. To the right was a shower stall with two doors that swung open to the largest single shower that he had ever seen. Stepping further into the room, Harry saw a small opening to the right of the door that held the toilet. Turning to the left of the hallway door was two doors. Pulling them both open, the one closest to the door was a small closet. The one further away led into the blue bedroom.
"Wow."
"Kinda stunning how it's all yours huh?" Sirius asked.
"No I just realized how much shopping I'm gonna have to do to set the house up." Harry said, making a face.
Leaning against the wall, Sirius started laughing. "Relax, Cub. You don't have to do it yourself. We can get you an elf if you'd like to take care of it."
"I don't know, Siri. You know how Hermione feels about house elves."
"Harry that's how things are done in the Wizarding world. They live to serve besides you don't have to abuse it like other house elf owners do. That isn't the law."
Biting his lip, Harry eventually said, "How do I go about getting one? I'd take Dobby, but he's a Hogwarts house-elf now."
"There's a building, sort of like an orphanage, where house-elves go after either the family they are caring for all die or they are released. Or you can choose two elves to mate and birth an elf for you, but that takes a bit longer."
"No I can't do that when there are house-elves out there waiting for a new owner." Harry said with a frown.
Nodding, Sirius said, "Alright. Why don't we head back to my place and you can call it a day and I'll see about setting up an appointment to have some available house-elves bought over so you can pick."
"Yeah that sounds good, but it has to be one that doesn't mind sharing the kitchen with me if I get in the mood to bake or cook something. Shopping and cleaning, though, they can have at it."
Heading out of the house, Sirius stopped and said, "Before we leave I have to give you this. It's what your mom wanted me to give you."
Turning around, Harry accepted the yellowed envelope and looked at it. Licking his lips, Harry said, "I think I'll wait until I'm alone if that's alright."
"Of course that's okay, Cub. Come on let's get back to the house. Remus said he would stop by with Teddy today after they stop and put flowers on Tonks' grave."
"You know, I think he'd get with you if you talked to him about it. I've seen the looks between the two of you." Harry said, slipping the letter in his pocket as they continued to Sirius' motorcycle.
"I've missed my chance, Cub. I was stupid and missed my chance years ago."
"You never know until you try." Harry said.
"I'd rather not get hurt and lose my best friend in the process, but thanks, Cub." Sirius said, starting up the bike.
"You're way too stubborn sometimes, Siri." Harry mumbled as they took off towards Grimmauld Place.
