“I don’t think Snape is going to do too well in this house.” Harry commented to Draco; the blond was sitting across the table from Harry. Snape had taken refuge in the dungeon for the past two days, only coming out for meals and to use the restroom. Harry had suggested moving their things from separate houses to his but no one really perused that thought. Both men seamed hesitant about it, as if it would solidify what was happening in their lives or something.
Harry noticed how Draco stepped up and helped him around the house. The blond had transfigured two pieces of wood into flower pots and summoned a few bundles of flowers out of the guardian. Each pot sat on a different table in the house, every time Harry looked there were different types of full bloomed, beautiful flowers in each. The scent of the day that wafted through the downstairs portion of the house was an amazing mix of lilies and Jasmine. Just thinking of the smell brought back memories of his mother. Images of the things he had said to his mother and father’s portrait stuck in Harry’s head, he knew the images that answered back weren’t his real parents, but anything they said had the actual opinions of James and Lily Potter.
“I don’t think he is either. It is not unusual to find in one room more often than not, but that’s only when he has something to do in it. Like his potions lab, he stayed day and night in there quite a few times while brewing. I don’t think he really has anything to do down in the dungeon.” Draco had an empty tea cup in front of him. Harry noticed how he sat up with his back strait, as if he had to be proper in their home.
“I have an old cottage down by the sea that Dumbledore left me in his will; I can’t help but wonder if he would be more comfortable there. I would never force him to stay at Grimauld place. I know these smaller houses are not what you are used to but I am sure we can furnish it a bit more to your taste; it just needs a bit of fixing up.” Harry watched as the bewitched teapot rose and filled Draco’s cup. It had already been sweetened so it was no problem that the liquid stopped just below the rim.
“I don’t care where I live. If I am stuck in a shack for the rest of my life I would be happier than in Azkaban.” Harry understood where Draco was coming from; a lot of people who are forced to serve a long term in the magical prison go mad. The blond was use to high fashion and the best of everything out there. Harry knew it was quite a step down from what Draco was used to; but maybe the blond learned to appreciate a few things while facing the threat of Azkaban.
“Maybe I should look into getting your things for you so you have some things from your social standing? Like your clothes, I’m sure you are tired of wearing the same clothes every day even if you can magically clean them now.” Draco nodded and picked up his cup, he took a sip. Harry couldn’t help but notice how the man’s eyes closed and the wetness that clung to his lips when he pulled the cup away, luckily Draco didn’t seem to notice; Harry coughed and stood up breaking himself away from any un-pure thoughts that had flashed in his mind.
“Having some of my own things would be very nice if you would grant them to me.” Hope flashed across Draco’s face; Harry couldn’t help but think that this was the first time he had seen the blond look at least a little hopeful since they had arrived.
“I will not keep you from them, what kind of man would I be if I didn’t allow you that small comfort when thrown in a situation like this.” Harry more so stated than asked while looking into Draco’s eyes; he knew he unsettled the man when he began to squirm. Harry gave a slight smirk with a raised brow when Draco’s cheeks flushed. “I will return with lunch, unless you would like to accompany me. Better yet you probably should since you know what you would like to keep. I should probably retrieve Severus as well shouldn’t I? What are the chances of me catching on fire if I disturb him?”
“Very unlikely; Snape is more so the kind to hex at first thought rather than engulf you in flame.” Harry didn’t miss the slight upturn to the man’s lips. He almost swore that Draco’s smile would put him in an early grave. “I will get him; I am less likely to lose my bullocks for interrupting his brooding.”
With minimal problems the three men apparated just outside of Malfoy Manor. Draco tested the wards and found that he could still cross them, which meant as his guardian Harry could cross them as well. Severus had been granted access to the grounds long ago after having been Lucius best friend for many years.
When a house-elf answered the door she informed the men that Master and Misses Malfoy were not available. Draco was able to pass through the landing, the elf recognizing him immediately as the Malfoy Heir. Harry followed Draco up to his bedroom and was only slightly shocked at how much money had been put into the furnishings of the Slytherins room. Draco started with his wardrobe; instead of grabbing the clothes out of it he just shrunk the whole thing and stuffed it in his robe pocket.
“You can take all of the furniture you like. You can resize the room you will have in the cottage to fit all of it.” Draco looked at Harry and thought for a few seconds, he shook his head no and emptied the drawers in his room into a bag. Everything personal to him flew into the bag, which was everything but the furniture. The bottomless bag was shrunk and put into another pocket for safe keeping. Draco turned to Harry and nodded, signaling that he was done. “Is there anything else in the Manor that belongs to you?”
“No, anything of mine I had to keep in my room or the elves would vanish it, my parents order of course and once things are vanished by them you don’t see it again. There is suspicion that vanished items get sent to the room of requirements in Hogwarts but that’s just a rumor.” A pang of guilt hit Draco like a ton of bricks; Harry could feel it through their magical connection. Of course that was natural, the last time Draco had been in that room he had nearly died with his best friend.
Draco took a few deep breaths and headed back downstairs where his parents waited for him and speaking to Severus. Snape looked like a wild cat had ruffled his feathers beyond fixing. Harry cleared his throat and everyone turned their attention to him.
“Are you ready to go retrieve your things Snape?” Harry didn’t pay any attention to Lucius Malfoy when the blond stepped towards him with a scathing look.
“You wrong one hair on their heads Potter and Voldemort will look like a saint compared to me.” Lucius threatened, Harry squared his shoulders and stepped up to the taller man, looking him right in the eyes.
“You seem to think that you have some sort of effect on me Lucius, believe me when I say you don’t so listen closely; if you step one toe towards me in a vicious manor I will revoke your freedom with the ministry. I do have the power for that and you’ve seemed to have forgotten who spoke for you at your trial. I can take back that statement if I wish, so don’t you dare ever threaten me again.” Harry’s hand was wrapped firmly around his wand. Lucius stepped, gritting his teeth he nodded towards the door.
“Get out of my home,” Lucius glared at his son. “You Draco, how could you just sit there and let him speak to your father like that.”
“I enjoy my freedom and quite honestly it is an amusing sight to see you be the one squirming for once.” Draco chose that second to take his leave, he didn’t care if the other two were following him out or not; his heart was beating harder than it ever had, he had just talked back to his father and got away with it, and hell it felt pretty damn good too.
Severus’ house was next. He had a lot more possessions than Draco did since he owned his own house. Harry knew he wouldn’t want to give it all up so he suggested to the man that they take a good portion of the furniture to the cottage. Severus seamed okay with the idea and Harry figured that it was due to him being able to feel a little more at home in the new place.
With the house’s content packed up in Severus’ bag Harry warded the place from being seen by anyone, that way no one would know it was unattended. He also put a charm on the building to keep it exactly as is, not even a speck of dust or dirt will move. Chloe the house elf had Harry’s hand, giving it a good squeeze. She had lived in that house all her life, and just like most other elves, Chloe didn’t like change all that much.
Harry apparated them all to the cottage, the outside of the house looked just as it had when he had been showed just after Dumbledore’s will had been read. Harry knew from the walkthrough he had been given that the floor plan of the inside was rather large.
Draco was in awe when he walked in, the home was no mansion but the place was set up beautifully; the creams, greens and reds of the paint in the house gave it a very warm feel. It wasn’t too over the top either, it was just right.
Harry had shown them around, not missing Draco’s smile when they reached the nook. Bookshelf after bookshelf lined a wall, a deep cherry colored wooden desk sat in the middle of the room an elegant looking rug under it. Who ever sat in the chair, their back would be to the large window that looks out over a small area of trees to the side of the house.
The kitchen had the same deep cherry red wood and the counters were made with redish-brown granite. The three and a half bathrooms all had the same cherry colored cupboards but the tile on the counters was white, as well as the tiles lining the outside of the tub and the inside of the glass walk in shower and the floor.
The master bedroom had a nice sized sitting room in it with a giant brown leather couch and loveseat; they sat in an L shape so the corner arms on each were nearly touching the other. An end table between the two, a deep brown rug accented the room perfectly. The master bed was a four poster bed with a canopy across the top, it had curtains around it similar to Hogwarts beds but instead of red the theme was cream and brown. A giant bathroom led from the open sitting area in the master bedroom. The bathtub was ginormous; it was more like a spa than a tub.
The other two bedrooms had light yellow themes. Harry knew each occupant would change it as he saw fit, including the beds that resembled his own but yellow and white bedding.
Harry knew his favorite place would soon be the main Living room which had a big fireplace that would soon be complete with the leather couch and chair set that Severus had brought from his home. Again there was a big rug and more bookshelves with more books than someone could read in two years and that’s a fast reader, at least one book a day.
There was also a family room where Harry knew he would be buying a muggle TV and putting it in there with the white plush couches that were already in the room. The area was wide and open with light coloring so it looked bright when light shined through the big windows at the front of the house.
Once everyone had gotten a good look around they decided to unpack the furniture Snape and Draco had brought. It was quite funny that Draco decided to just transform the bed already in his room to the same brown color as Harry’s and went a size up. He didn’t pull out his floor length wardrobe and flicked his wand. Now anyone who looked inside would get a surprise.
Snape however did unpack his bedroom; it was a sleigh bed that he changed the color to match the houses colors. It shocked Harry when Severus turned the bedding a light shade of moss. The two nightstands were changed to match as well as the wardrobe and tall floor length mirror and bookshelf. He also put a deep brown leather armchair in the corner with a lamp behind it. Two matching bulb looking lights sat on the nightstand.
With a sigh Harry flopped down onto one of the barstools and pulled a sandwich and a foam container of soup out of a bag. Draco joined him moments later, digging into his own food. Snape however took his meal and went to sit out back.
The back patio had cement square slab that held an umbrella covered glass table with brown pained metal, chairs matched with cushions. Neatly trimmed shrubs lined the cement slab except in one spot that had a three foot wide cement walkway that looked like flat stones, leading out about fifteen feet; it was lighted by torches and on each side was a small guardian. At the end of the walkway sat a sunken in spa a torch on each corner, cement surrounding it. The sides and the back of the house had a big forest hiding anyone’s view to their home; a few were inside the tall iron fence for shade purposes. A shed was pushed off to one of the corners but about twenty feet with a walkway leading to it, on the others side the same except in place of the shed was a rose guardian.
“What’s the matter with him?” Harry wondered, looking out the sliding glass door at Severus sitting alone.
“He is use to his quiet time, usually that means in his potions lab.” Draco sighed, digging into his sandwich like he hadn’t eaten in days.
“He can have the basement for his brewing lab. He can turn it into his bat dungeon.” Harry joked; Draco gave him a wide eyed look and turned his head away.
“He’s not a bat.” Even Draco had thought so at first when he was younger but he had grown up with the man and learned to respect him.
“Sorry,” Harry didn’t understand why he felt the need to apologize to Draco but even after he had the burning in his gut refused to go away.
“Just don’t let him hear you say that. He’s had enough on his plate these last few years to last us a lifetime. But then again so have you.” Harry watched the blond turn back to him, a stray chunk of hair fell in Draco’s eyes. The Slytherin brushed it away and instead of looking at the hair Harry’s eyes fell on the plump bottom lip that Draco pulled into his mouth and began to nibble on nervously.
Harry caught himself starring and bunched up his food wrapper, he tossed it in the garbage and made a metal note to keep his eyes off of Draco for a while.
Later that night Harry found himself tossing and turning in bed, Chloe the house-elf had brought him some warm milk and even that hadn’t helped. Harry found himself wandering the too quiet house and he finally had to settle for reading a book in front of the fireplace, enchanted to keep the fire from spreading. Harry didn’t even feel himself fall asleep.
It was nearly noon when the Gryffindor woke up. He yawned and stretched, his book falling to the ground. He bent to pick it up and placed it on the side table. Deciding that coffee was what he wanted Harry stood from the couch and made his way to the kitchen. He quickly made his drink and walked to the back door sipping it, a smile crossed his lips when his eyes met Draco standing out in the guardian his wand at the ready. The blond had made a small border of bricks surrounding the flowers on each side of the walk way. Some were tall and bush like and others were littler flowers that littered the ground. The rose guardian was in full bloom where as yesterday it hadn’t even had the chance to start.
Harry watched the Slytherin, admiring the pair of muggle jeans the blond had on. They fit his ass rather nicely. Harry caught himself looking again and shook his head at himself. He couldn’t be having those thoughts about Malfoy. They had been enemies at one point in time, the blond was under his care now but Harry had to admit Draco was a different person now that the fight with Voldemort was over.
With a sigh Harry stepped away from the door and made his way to Snape’s room. He knocked twice and opened the door. Severus looked up from the book he had been reading in his corner chair, he raised a brow.
“I saw that you had an at home potions lab at your place.” Harry sat on the very edge of Snape’s bed. The man eyed him for a second and nodded. “Well I thought you could turn the basement into a brewing lab.”
Snape thought it over and gave a curt nod. Harry let out a loud sigh and stood up, there was no hope of the man talking to him so why should he stick around. He was at the door when a voice stopped him.
“Potter.” Harry turned his head and looked at the potions master. “Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me; this is your home now too.” And with that Harry made his way out of the room, looking for something to occupy his time for the rest of break. His eyes popped open with realization and immediately flooed and got a few items of his own from the old house and brought them to the new. His broom being one of them as well as the snitch; with a smile on his face Harry mounted his broom and chased the little golden ball all through the air for nearly an hour.
Draco hadn’t taken his eyes of him the entire time, not even for a second.
