Chapter 2
Sitting at one of the picnic tables in the deserted play park, Harry had his laptop open and was going through a bunch of stories he had saved the night before when he could get online after everyone was asleep. Wand on the table by him within quick reach just in case, he began moving things around, organizing all it the best he could. While doing that, every so often he would glance up to keep an eye out for things. So far everything had been quiet and nothing was said on the news about strange things, but, by now, he knew that didn't mean shite. It just meant that someone was keeping what was going on mum. As he had been closely reading the Prophet, he knew what they, and Fudge, were pulling so it didn't surprise him. Just one more bullshite thing added on top of so many. And Snape wondered why he had such a low opinion of everyone!
Shaking his head, he tried not to dwell on that while moving the stories around into separate folders where he could find what he wanted more easily. While doing that, he was thankful to the Ravenclaw he was friends with that helped him set all this up. They had become friends the year before and, since the guy was also muggleborn and loved computers, they had worked with a lot of things when it came to them. Not only did he help him by spelling a cover that made it look like a book to anyone but him, he also helped him put the protections on it so magic didn't affect it so much. No, he couldn't use the thing in places like the inside of Hogwarts or others that were all but oozing magic from the very building itself, but in places like down by the Black Lake he could manage. Not to mention they had spelled the battery to never run out. He would, of course, charge it when he could to make sure, something that was wise, but he could use it for hours on end with no issue. The only thing problematic for him happened to be the fact that there was no way to get an internet connection without the phone line. He kept hearing things about something called DSL but that wasn't feasible and wouldn't work because it wasn't 'portable'.
Sighing, he waited for the machine to finish the transfer it was working on. Though he adored the laptop, something he was certain was one of the few things that was keeping him from completely losing it, the realism was that it wasn’t as powerful as a desktop was. More expensive, oh hell yes, but not as powerful. However, as there was no way to work with a desktop, let alone keep it hidden or transport then set it up somewhere, he went with this. He was just thankful that he had the forethought to have a bunch of his money converted to Muggle currency last time he was at Gringotts. Not only could he get things he wanted and needed, like clothes, he was buying food so he didn't starve like he had the summers past when he came home from school. Nor did he have to subsist on sweets that others sent him. As he hadn't heard from anyone yet, the fact that he could go out and buy things to eat was the only reason he wasn't in his normal boat with things in this hell hole.
Once the transfer was finished, he began to go through the mass of stories he had downloaded from various places, seeing if he needed to organize them better to find things. Reaching down, he palmed his stiffening cock through his pants. Oh, he couldn't wait to read some of these! They were dead on with things he liked. He would wait until tonight though. After all, they were good wank material and he wasn't about to do that sitting here in the park where anyone could walk by. No, it was best to wait. Same with looking at some of the pictures he had snagged the night before. Those he wasn't going to even open to try to organize. That he would wait on until later that night or the following day.
While he scrolled through things, he made a mental note to back everything up onto disk that night. He didn't want to lose anything, that's for sure, so he always ensured that he had plenty of floppies around to put things on. Since most of this was just text files of some kind, he could put a ton of them on disk. He had a special container to store those in so that magic wouldn't bother them. Then, he always made sure that was kept in his trunk in a secret compartment where he stored the laptop. It wouldn't do for the Dursley's to see that he had something like that. If they did, it would only lead to suspicions. He was certain that though they hated anything to do with the Wizarding World, finding out he had plenty of money wouldn't be one of the things, especially after they learned it could be converted to Muggle currency.
Groaning softly, feeling his flesh rise more, Harry shut the folder and went back to working on moving things around. No, he needed to stay away from reading about the 'kink' he liked so much. Now wasn't the time for that. Shaking his head, he went back to organizing things, making sure he didn't let himself get distracted. While doing that, he couldn't help but grin. Oh, if the idiots in the Wizarding World only knew what the so-called Boy-Who-Lived liked to read about, they would have a fit. After all, so many, despite what was going on now, thought he was some kind of angel. Boy, were they wrong!
He would be the first to admit to himself that he was no angel and had plenty of faults. There was also the fact that he would admit he was a fucking pervert that was all but addicted to sex, well, wanking off anyway, and porn. Hell, he would rather look or read that shite than deal with most people. And, seriously, the only reason he wasn't trying to get laid more than he was had to do with the fact that they would end up running to the press or bragging about it. The fact that he liked men more than women factored in there as well. Nope, he would stick to wanking and porn. Besides, with the kinds of things he liked, it wasn't going to be easy to find a partner anyway. Well, one he wanted. No, he was no virgin, having slept with a couple of girls and a few guys while at school, but he made sure it was one of those casual things and with people that wouldn’t talk. Considering what most beings in his life were like, any reasonably intelligent person might get that, his porn and wanking addiction that was. Dumbledore and those like him wouldn't of course. They saw what they wanted to see, not what he was really like. The only one that might not be surprised was Snape. After all, the man knew him quite well by now.
Chuckling softly, still grinning over all that, he thought that it might come as enough of a shock to those that thought they knew him well that he would laugh his arse off at it. Someday that would happen, just not right now. No, now he couldn't let it come. There was too much shite in his life for something like this to make things worse. Instead, he would use what he liked as he had the year before; as something to distract him and help him deal with all that was thrown his way so that he didn't go completely off on some people. It worked then and would now, that he knew. It was just a matter of loading up the computer with all kinds of things he liked while he had the chance then going through it all when he could while at school. He always found places to do that so he would manage. Even if he didn't, he could use what he read as fantasies to deal with things. That was all that kept him going at times.
Closing out Windows Explorer, he decided to play a game to keep himself occupied. After all, it was early in the afternoon and he didn't plan to go anywhere near what most called 'his home' until night was falling. The longer he stayed away from that place during the day, the better off all of them were going to be. Pulling up the pinball game, he started playing, trying to lose himself in that and the fantasies he had over what he wanted to do when he found a partner that was into his kink.
=============================
Standing off in a small copse of trees, Sirius, as Padfoot, was watching his godson. It looked odd to him though. Harry appeared to be reading a big book of some kind; however he had it turned sideways and was touching it in odd ways. That he didn't understand. After a half an hour and seeing no one else come into the park, hell there wasn't even any foot traffic by it, he shifted back to human then cast a ward around the place. Not only would the thing keep anyone from seeing anything, it would also act like a Notice-Me-Not charm and keep them away.
Seeing his godson react to the magic, his head coming up and seeing him grab his wand, Sirius figured he must have felt the spell slide into place so it was time to go see him before Harry got too nervous. Stepping out of the shadows, he made his way over to the table Harry was sitting at. Quickly, Harry spied him and relaxed, putting his wand down then grinning after shutting the book he had been reading.
Sliding onto the bench beside Harry, Sirius grinned then said, “Hey, Harry.”
Grinning from ear to ear, Harry said, “Hey, Sirius! You look great!”
Looking down, Sirius straightened his clothes then said, glancing back at his godson, “Yeah, not having to scrounge for a place to stay. Managed to get into the old family home and am kipping there. That'll be explained more as summer goes along cause, when I can get you out of here, that's where you'll be coming.”
Eying Sirius critically, not liking being kept so much in the dark, Harry nodded slowly. “At least you don't have to live in a cave and subsist off scraps of food or begging like last year. Glad you stuck around though! I was worried about you.”
“Yeah, this is better. Haven't been settled for long, obviously, but it's much better even if I don't like the place or the memories it brings up. And you don't need to worry about me, Harry. I can always handle myself,” Sirius assured him. However, that part gave him hope. Like Snape had said, Harry did have some beings he cared about. All he had to do was work with it from here.
Leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees then clasping his hands, Sirius looked at his godson then said, seriously, “I'm worried about you, Harry. Hell, a couple of us are.”
Shrugging, Harry told him, “Don't worry about me. I always end up fine. Not in any danger, am I? So, I'll be alright.”
“I don't mean that, Harry. You're so angry all the time. You can be frightening too. I mean, you're intense.”
Shifting around to face Sirius, Harry shrugged again. “Can you blame me for being angry? All my life people have treated me like crap. I mean, in the Muggle world, especially to my so-called family, I'm a freak. I had hoped that when I went to Hogwarts that would change. It hasn't. I'm a freak there too, just for different reasons.”
“No, you aren't,” Sirius told him firmly. “You're not a freak.”
“Everyone treats me that way. Either I’m something to be worshiped or dangerous when I do something they don't like or think is wrong. Either way, I’m a freak. Tired of that, honestly,” Harry told him with a sigh and shake of his head.
Looking down, Sirius thought that over then had to sigh himself. Of course, he could see where Harry was coming from there. It would seem that way. He had never been allowed to be a child. Not to mention he was scrutinized for everything he did. Hell, being able to talk to snakes was enough to cause big issues, even now. After a few moments, he said, keeping his tone soft, “You aren't a freak. People might see it that way but it's their issue.”
“Yeah, it might be but they sure treat you that way and that doesn't help anything. Then others join in. That makes it oh so much fun,” Harry told him, tone disgruntled.
Again, that was something Sirius couldn't argue with as he got where Harry was coming from. Scrubbing a hand over his face, he sighed then shook his head. “It's rotten, I'll give you that, and true. I can understand where some of the anger comes from, I really can.”
Snorting, Harry shook his head then said, tone dry, “Yeah, well, get Dumbledore to quit playing with my life and things will be better. Not to mention quit dragging me into things! Then there is this whole bit with the Dursley's. He knows just how they treat me but 'I'm safest here'. I bet that would change if he had to live in the ruddy place with them!”
“I know, Harry, I do. And I don't blame you for being angry about it. Nor do I disagree with you. It's rotten and if I could do anything about it, I would. I want you with me, Harry. I do and would take you in a minute. There is just no way. With me on the run, all hell would break loose.” Sirius told him, shaking his head.
“I don't blame you,” Harry told him quietly. “I can only imagine what it must be like. Having me around would make it worse. It would just make a bigger target on you than is already there. It doesn't mean I have to like the situation though, or how this is being done.”
“I know and I wish there was something I could do, Harry!” Sirius told him sincerely. “I just don't know what! However, I did come up with something so we can talk every night.”
Grinning at that, liking the idea, Harry asked, “What are those?”
Pulling out the mirrors, Sirius enlarged them then handed one over to Harry. “Your father and I used to use these in school. We can talk through them.” Quickly, he walked his godson through how to activate and enlarge them. “Every night, after you're in your room, just call and we'll talk. Doesn't matter about what, just talk. We can get to know each other better that way.”
Liking the idea, Harry nodded then grinned, “This is brilliant! I like it!” Eyeing Sirius, he asked, “Do I even want to ask how long it'll be before I can get out of this hell?”
“I don't know, I really don't. I'll start bugging Albus about it but don't expect a miracle. He's convinced you need to stay here to keep you out of trouble. Have you been reading the Prophet?” When he saw a grim look on his godson's face and a nod, Sirius sighed then told him, “Yeah, the Ministry is up to something, though I don't know what it is. We all think it's something to discredit then go after you. Something to get you in trouble in some way so they can do something. What that might be I don't know.”
“Yeah, and staying in this place is going to help that,” Harry shot back sarcastic. “Like I'm more apt to get into trouble or do something they can pounce on if I'm around a bunch of witches and wizards that can help protect me. Let me guess... this was Dumbledore's scheme.” Looking intently at Sirius, Harry's face was stony, eyes cold.
For the first time, Sirius could see what Severus was talking about when he said Harry could be intimidating. That look was such that it was almost frightening. However, he wasn't going to lie to him either so Sirius sighed then nodded slowly, “First, I agree with you completely. It makes no sense to leave you here with people to try to watch you when you could go to someplace safer. And, secondly, yes, this was Albus' idea. Same with some other things.”
“What other things?” Harry asked coldly, eyes taking on a flinty look. No, he didn't like this, not at all, and it put the aged headmaster even further up on his shitelist than he already was.
Looking at his godson, Sirius was hesitant to tell him, knowing how angry it was going to make Harry. However, in the interest of being honest with him, something that would only aid things, he told him what the headmaster wanted of his friends and how they weren’t supposed to contact him. If they did, it was to tell him nothing of what was going on. When he finished, he waited.
Grinding his teeth, Harry looked at his godfather. Oh, he was pissed! Not only was the anger directed at Dumbledore, but Ron and Hermione as well! No, he was done with that part. Seconds ticking by, his temper continued to soar then he shook his head and said, voice cold as ice. “That's two strikes. I'm done with them.”
Though not getting the two strikes reference, Sirius got enough of what Harry just said to not like it. “Look, Harry, they are in a bad position with this. They are just following what they are told to do by someone they trust, an adult.”
“And they know what is right and what isn't. This isn't right, Sirius,” Harry snarled. “I wouldn't cut them off like that, no matter who said what. It's not like this is life or death. With the shite I've gone through with them already and some of what they've done to me, like Ron and the whole tournament, they were on thin ice anyway. No more. I want friends around me that are friends, not puppets! We're done!” Stopping, he looked at Sirius then asked, voice quiet but with a knife's edge to it, “Would dad or Remus have done that to you if Dumbledore told them to?”
Scrubbing a hand over his face again, Sirius sighed yet again then shook his head, “No, they wouldn't. I can see your point, Harry. I know it's hard but they are in a bad position as well.”
Folding his arms over his chest, Harry glared at his godfather, “No more. I don't need this shite. The trust wasn't there anyway. This just made it worse. I don't want any part of it.”
“Alright, I get it,” Sirius told him softly, looking at him. Though the part of him that was the adult wanted to say something to his godson about his language, Sirius didn't. He could understand it. “Harry, won't that leave you alone in the school? I mean, you don't talk to many anyway from what you and others have said.”
“I'd rather be alone than have to worry about things like this. And I talk to several people. I just don't let myself get close to many is all. Most can't be trusted and I know it. Especially in Gryffindor. They've proven that one to me.” Looking back at his godfather, he said, “Neville is fine. He always has been. He's just shy is all. Fred and George are always fine, I have no problem with them. Luna from Ravenclaw I like. She's... odd, but fun. There are others I do as well. We just aren't as close as Ron and Hermione thought we were. I was never as close to them as people thought anyway.” Stopping, Harry shrugged. “I'm not a social butterfly, I don't need a lot of friends to hang around with to be happy. Mostly, I'd rather spend my time reading or studying. I like that more anyway.”
“As long as you're not alone or don't feel that way, the number doesn't matter I guess,” Sirius told him softly. “You talk to Snape as well, don't you? Quite a bit from what I've heard.”
“Yeah, I talk to him a lot. I trust him more than I do anyone else, in fact. I spend a lot of time down in the potion's lab. He lets me do my homework down there so I'm not bothered. I like that. It's nice and quiet down there without people bugging me all the time.”
“You realize that's strange, right? Since he's a teacher. Yeah, I admit I'm biased, what with our history in school and all, but it's still odd that you're that close to a teacher, let alone one that isn't your head of house.”
“It's odd, but it works. He's the only one I know that will tell you something straight up. I've always known where I stood with him. He also doesn't play the stupid mind games with me. If I ask him something, he answers, even if I won't like what's said. I like that,” he told his godfather, looking at him. “Professor McGonagall is alright. She obviously cares about us. It's just that she's too close to Dumbledore and goes too much by the 'he knows best' crap for me to want to try there. Besides, I can't see getting answers to questions out of her like I can Snape. She would just tell me it's none of my business or not to worry, something like that,” Harry explained.
“Yeah, there is that,” Sirius sighed. Oh, he remembered what Minerva was like and Harry was dead on the galleon about it. No wonder he talked to Severus. Severus would, as he well knew, tell you the truth about things if asked directly. There was no playing around there. For someone in Harry's position, that had to be nice. Especially with so many running him in circles about things. “Look, Harry,” Sirius said after a couple moments, “I'll do the same as Snape as well. I'm just not as blunt as he is. You can talk to me about anything. It'll stay between us, alright? The only exception will be if I need advice. Then I'll go to either Remus or Severus. There is one other I will go to, also. You do know him but aren't close. He's been...” stopping, he looked down and tried to decide if he should give it up. After some quiet contemplation, he decided to. After all, it would only help things. Looking his godson directly in the eyes, he said, “He's been my lover since before I went to Azkaban. He's not on our side but not on the other either, despite what people think or some of what he has to do. Trust me, he's someone that won't say a word. His position is a lot like mine in so many things. You'll understand that better when you see who it is.”
Looking at his godfather, Harry nodded. He could accept that. However, he stopped at the last part, thinking it over. Quietly, he asked, “You don't like girls?”
“Oh, I like females just fine,” Sirius chuckled. “Been out with and bedded plenty of 'em over my time. I just prefer the lads over them is all.”
Grinning a little, Harry chuckled then admitted, “Yeah, I get that. I'm the same way. No one knows and I'd prefer it stay that way, you know?”
Pleased that Harry opened up a little to him, Sirius grinned then nodded, “No problem. I won't tell anyone anything other than the ones I mentioned. Work for you?”
“They know about you, right?” When he saw Sirius nod, he then told him, “Fine then. Snape already knows. I told him last year when I had to find a date for that stupid ball. The rest...” he shrugged, “If you don't matter, I won't either.”
“It won't,” Sirius assured him firmly. “I promise it won't. We don't care about shite like that! All we care about is you.”
“Alright, no problem then,” Harry told him.
Figuring that was probably enough of the really deep stuff for now, Sirius reached over and touched the book Harry had been reading. “I have a question, Harry. I saw you reading this thing but you were doing it sideways. Not to mention the touchy feely thing you were doing with it. What's it about? I was curious about that.”
“It's not a book, actually. It's just spelled that way. It's a laptop computer, really.” Seeing a puzzled look on his godfather's face, he said, “Slide closer, I'll show you.”
Sliding over next to Harry, Sirius watched, amazed, as his godson showed him the device.

Special AN;
As I'm basing this on canon from the books, not the movies, it's taking place around the mid-90's. Though there were laptops and computers then, they are very different than what they have now. As such, there was nothing like wireless or phones that can connect to the internet like we have now. Instead, to get online most needed a dial-up connection through a phone line using a modem. Though I'm going to play a bit with the make and model of Harry's computer, not to mention the Operating System he has, I'm going to be basing it as factual as I can get it on what computers were like then, not to mention what was on the internet. If you're younger, you might not know some of what I'm talking about. Just trust me, those computers from back then are nothing like what we have now.
