Here is prologue #2.

~*~**~*~
Lancelot whistled softly as he entered the corridor leading to his adopted brother’s rooms. They had had no fixed plans for the day, but his brother had not made an appearance at the morning meal, nor had he or his advisor showed themselves for drills mid-morning. Now it was nearing high-sun, and there was still no sight of Arthur. Stopping before the heavy wooden door, Lancelot considered knocking, but against his better judgment he opened the door silently and slipped inside.
“UGH!”
He recoiled back covering his eyes, as the two bodies on the bed scrambled to cover themselves—correction: one covered himself, the other rose up on one arm and unashamedly bared his body to the intruder.
“How many times have I told you to knock?”
“It’s halfway through the day! You should have completed your…activities hours ago!”
Arthur, better known as Yves to those that loved him, snorted.
“Brother, you have no lover. If you had, you would know that one cannot help oneself when one is with the person he loves.”
“Yves, please,” groaned the man cowering in the bed-covers. Arthur grinned and wrapped his strong arms around his bundled lover, pulling him close against his body.
“Give us a bit, Lani. We must recover ourselves.”
With a smothered groan, Lancelot bolted from the room, coming to a stop only when he reached his brother’s meeting rooms where they normally gathered to talk. Not long after, Arthur calmly slipped into the room, Merlin following after with a tell-tale blush still staining his cheeks.
“Now, what did you want to do, Lani? A ride into town? A hunt in the countryside?”
“How about we ride to the city gates? Yvane sent word that she would be returning this evening, and she brings news.”
Arthur’s eyes lit up and he rushed out of the room to prepare for their ride, leaving his brother and lover to stare at each other in slight discomfort.
“I—I’m sorry you had to see that, my lord. His Majesty insisted…”
“We both know that Yves could charm mother out of her dress if he wanted to, and she is a married woman. I don’t hold it against you, Merlin. He is very persuasive,” Lancelot smirked, and Merlin flushed even redder and mumbled something about preparing for their ride before he made his escape. Lancelot chuckled softly before following the honored wizard out of the room.
Not long after, the three men were charging down the main road, each as eager as the next to see the returned woman. And as soon as the fortress gates came into view, so did the stunning young woman with flowing white-blonde hair, sitting on an equally white mount. She nudged her horse forward to meet them, and without a word all four cantered back up towards the castle keep, laughter now ringing behind them.
Once they entered the courtyard, Arthur jumped from his mount and reached up to swing his sister off of hers, both of them laughing like little children. Lancelot allowed his booming laughter to join theirs and even Merlin allowed a soft chuckle at the sight of his lover being so child-like and free.
“You have been missed, Guinevere,” the wizard murmured, once the siblings had settled down. She sent him a gentle smile and linked her arms with her brothers, allowing them to lead her into the castle. Once they were settled in the most comfortable meeting room, they became more serious.
“The Elves will be leaving this Realm.”
All of the men froze and turned wide eyes on their companion. She was gazing out one of the nearby windows, a distant look on her face.
“Repeat that, please?” Arthur whispered.
“By this time next year, we will all have withdrawn from this world. Lancelot’s mother has foreseen it.”
Lancelot felt his heart drop out of his chest and he saw a look of devastation cross Merlin’s face, while Arthur simply looked blindsided. Guinevere continued to look out the window, her eyes sad and her stance stiff.
“What of Elaine? And Morgan, Sal, and Rick?” Arthur finally managed. Guin shook her head and finally turned to face them, leaning back against the windowsill.
“Elaine said they would be needed here for at least another few centuries. But someday they will join us.”
“You’re not telling us something, Guinevere. What is it?” Lancelot asked, making a movement towards her before catching himself. Her face crumpled and she viciously bit her lip, her eyes tearing up. All three men started forward to comfort her, but she threw up a hand to stop them and leaned heavily against the stones behind her for support.
“She said…she told me that two of our number would not be joining us at all in the other realm. One from choice and the other—“ a sob broke off the rest of what she was going to say, and the men were frozen to their places once more.
“Who? Who is it?” Merlin asked, his voice breaking. Guinevere shook her head.
“That she refused to say. I don’t know. I truly don’t know!” She whimpered, looking down at the floor. Arthur studied her for a long moment, then grasped Merlin by the forearm and pulled him from the room. Lancelot numbly watched as the door-hangings swung lazily in their wake, then he slowly turned back to his adopted sister. Even though he was sure his mother had not told Guinevere, the pained look in her eyes indicated she had a good guess whom would not be entering the Elvin Realm. He slowly turned his back on her, following his brother’s path out of the room and down the hallway towards his private chambers.
He didn’t know that in only five full-moon phases, Guinevere would be gone from this place, taken to the Elvin Realm for her own safety. Only weeks later, Arthur would follow her, a broken man, his heart buried six feet beneath the ground in the human realm with the ashes of his murdered lover. Camelot would be nothing more than a smoldering ruin, the people of the once great citadel scattered throughout the countryside. Elaine would be gone from her lake, to join her own kind in their next self-assigned project.
And he—he would be wandering the earth alone, the hole in his heart growing bigger with each season that passed.
