Chapter TwoExhaustion was eating at her as she slipped into the booth across from Harry. He blinked at her, seeing the dark circles under her eyes as clearly as if she wasn’t wearing a glamour.
“I hate parties,” she told him, sounding as rough as she looked. “Merlin, how do you do it? We went to the same amount of parties, didn’t we?”
“Yes,” he said, motioning over to the waitress to get their order. “But unlike you, I don’t end up staying up half the night on the computer looking for him there as well.” They both turned to the woman standing there with a ready, if not plastic smile, overly cheerful and bouncing her blond ponytail from side to side. “Who are you?”
“Pardon?” she asked, barely moving her mouth. “I’m Dorothy!” She pointed to her badge. “See? Says so right there.”
It was Hermione who smiled and said, “Miss Parker, what an honor to make your acquaintance.” The waitress looked at her alarmed. “I met your comrades Eliot Spenser and Nate Ford last night at the Piermont Group, I do believe. And even though I know your other associate Ms. Whatever the hell her name is now was there, I didn’t get the privilege to meet her as well. And of course Mr. Hardison was more than likely in some darkened room with his equipment, so I doubt I could have met him.” She looked over to Harry for a beat. “You wouldn’t believe what I ran across at one of the parties. The good guys stealing from the bad to give it back to the poor. It was all so very Robin Hood!” Looking back over to Parker, she added, “Such a shame you can’t seem to find where Mrs. Ryle hid that money she took.” She pulled out a paper, holding it out to her. “I can’t abide people stealing pensions. It simply goes against the grain.” Parker took the paper from her, looking at it and to her. “All the information is there that you need to get it under your control. Do let me know if I was of help.”
“Okay,” she said slowly.
“Now be a love and take off. I can see our waitress making her way over here and I am in dire need of my morning coffee.”
Parker rushed away just as the waitress Marie came over and asked for their order. Once it was given, Harry turned to her and demanded, “What was that all about?”
“It was like I said, I ran across something.” She explained what she had seen and was a part of to him and finished with, “Needless to say it wasn’t what I thought, but I found it infinitely more entertaining than listening to the prattle I had been for the hour before. Long story short, it was boring.”
His eyes narrowed, as he said, “Hermione, I swear you’re the only person I know that would be diverted from what we’re doing by a…what exactly?”
She thought it over. “I do believe that it is referred to as a grift.”
“What!” That gained him a glare not only from Hermione, but several others there.
“Do use your indoor voice,” she muttered. “Really, how we hope to have anything remain between us when you’re bound and determined to scream at any least thing is beyond me.” Their coffee arrived and she was fixing hers as she went on with, “It’s not as if they’re the bad guys. They’re actually doing good work here. The wife of the C.E.O. of the company whose party I went to last night stole the entirety of the pension of the employees. They’re working to get it back to them.”
“And you know this how?”

“Good question,” Hardison said as he watched them. “How does she know our business?”
“Hush up! She’s speaking!” Sophie hissed at him.
“Well, it’s like a book, I suppose,” she said, looking thoughtful. “Someone has gone through the trouble of researching, gathering facts, and data, compiling it all in one centralized location.”
The young man across from her looked thoughtful before saying, “A book, in other words?”
“Yes,” she said with a nod. “Then it’s all a matter of finding that book, or in this case, several books. They are quite the complex lot. It was a far simpler matter to find out about what they were doing here rather than the group themselves.”
“And how did you do that?” he asked her.
“I hacked their computer, of course.”
“She what?!” came from Parker, Hardison, and Sophie.
Nate slammed his drink down on his desk even as Eliot was sitting back chuckling to himself. Looking over to him, Nate demanded, “What’s so funny!”
“You know no matter how sharp we think we are, there’s always going to be someone out there that’s a little better,” he told him. “And damn if we didn’t hit the wall on that one!”
Pursing his lips, Nate said, “What does the paper say, Parker?”
“It has everything we need to get to the money,” she muttered. “Including the fact that it’s in the mother-in-law’s name and the cosigner too.”
“Shit,” breathed Hardison. “She so handed us the key! We didn’t even know that woman was involved!”
“That would explain a lot,” Eliot said. “Why we couldn’t find the account.” Thinking it over, he asked, “Did she put down what country it’s in?”
“Germany. Hmm, wait a second…There’s a note here telling us to make certain to hurry up to fetch the funds as there’s a tag on the account by the U.S. Secret Service and as a result the moneys will be moved to the islands, wherever those are.”
“The Caymans,” Nate said briskly. “Okay, okay, Parker get back to base. We need that information now.” He looked over to Eliot. “Do you think she’s a threat to us?”
Shaking his head no, he said, “She could have pulled the rug on this. She didn’t.”
“Which tells you?”
“She has bigger game,” he replied. “And it hasn’t a thing to do with us.”
“Hold on! Hold your horses! What were they just talking about? I missed the whole thing!” Parker snapped.
“The cameras just went out,” Hardison muttered. “As did our ears!”
“What’s happening?” Sophie asked him as she walked up closer to the geeky man as he struggled to get the feed back once again.
“I don’t know!” he told her. “They did something, but hell if I know what!”

Hermione leaned back in the seat of the booth, saying, “Charms are up. We may speak freely now.”
“Any news?” he asked her. “Any hint of where Dolohov may be?”
Shaking her head, she said, “Not a single hint, but I have been able to find Theo Nott.”
“That’s good,” he murmured, eating his food slowly. “Do you think he might know where Dolohov is?”
“Nott's father was tight with him as well as Parkinson. There’s always a chance. That being the case, I think we need to pull him in and find out what he knows.”
Chewing Harry instructed quietly, “See it done.”
