Later That Evening
Harry and Rose were right, they had been punished. Soon as they had got home, they were locked in their room and told they would go without supper. The twins laid in their small bed, hungry and cold, they had been trying to figure out what had happened at the Zoo. They had both been able to talk to a snake. This had caused both Twins to discuss the incidence, however neither of them had an explanation. Rose shivered as she moved closer to Harry. It wasn't uncommon for her to do so. Especially on cold night like this. She noticed her brother brought his arm around her and pulled her closer into his body. "Why do they hate us Harry? Whatever did we do to them?" Rose then burst into tears, it seems finally everything had gotten too much for Rose and now she was crying on her brother chest.
Harry rubbed a soothing hand on his sister back. "I don't know Rose, but like you I am getting a little fed up with it, all we seemed to do is slave around after them."
Rose nodded her head and then gripped onto Harry's t-shirt. Harry was the only thing Rose had, since they had been little he had watched out for her. Several times at their school Harry had stepped in and protected her. Normally he would end up coming of worse, but he never allowed anyone to hurt her. Rose admired her brother for his protective nature. At least she had someone she could depend on. Rose snuggled closer to her brother. Slowly the crying turned to soft sobbing until finally Rose was peacefully sleep on Harry's chest. Harry brushed Rose hair out of her face, and smiled. Rose always looked like a sleeping angel when she slept. Harry turned his head and looked up to the ceiling. Harry wondered how many years they would have to carry on slaving away for their aunt and Uncle. However unknown to Harry everything was about to change for the better.
One Month Down The Line
Harry and Rose were busy in the kitchen, when Harry heard the post through the door. Both twins looked at each other then their uncle Vernon who was sitting at the table. He placed his paper on the table.
"Well, the mail is not going to fetch itself boy! Go get it. You girl where is my coffee?"
Harry growled before slamming the frying pan down onto the cooker and then storming out of the kitchen towards the front door. On the floor were several letters however what surprised Harry was there were two letters one for him and one for Rose. Harry quickly stuffed their two letters down his jumper and the proceeded to walk through to the kitchen before placing the post on the table in front of his uncle. He then went back to the cooker and carried on cooking breakfast. Once it was all cooked and plated up. Harry and Rose left the kitchen and went to their bedroom. Once inside Harry quickly bolted the door and then pulled out the two letters he had hidden down his jumper. He handed Rose hers.
Rose turned the strange envelope over, she and Harry never received mail. She looked at the front and saw in gold scribe. Her name and their address. Carefully Rose opened the envelope and then pulled out the letter.
Dear Miss Potter
My name is Professor McGonagall (Deputy head Of Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardy)
It is with great pleasure that I inform you that you have been given a place at Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardy. You will find below a list of items that are to be purchased before attending our school. Now I am well aware of your up bringing and understand this must all seem like a hoax to you. However it is not. You Miss Potter are a witch, just as your brother is a wizard. Due to your up bring I have decided to take it upon myself to take you shopping for your school supplies. I will arrive at your address on the 31st of this month at 9am sharp, so please be ready for when I arrive. I look forward to seeing both you then.
Your faithfully Professor McGonagall.
Rose re-read the letter a dozen times, to make sure she wasn't dreaming. She was a witch and Harry was wizard. This would explain why strange things happened now again. She noticed Harry was reading his letter which was basically the same. Rose looked up at Harry.
"So what do think? Is this for real or a hoax?" Rose watched as her brother just kept looking at her then his letter. She could tell he wasn't sure. It this was a hoax then why now? They had never received any mail from anyone before. In fact this was their first letter ever. This alone was convincing Rose that they should trust this Professor.
Harry looked at his sister. He had heard her question, yet he still wasn't sure. The realisation that he was a wizard would explain the many accidents they both had. However witches and wizard only existed in fairy-tales. "I am not sure Rose. Let wait until the 31st we will know then if this is a hoax or not."
August 31st 1991 Privet Drive
Harry Rose was once again in the kitchen preparing breakfast, when the heard the door bell ring. Both twins looked at the kitchen clock and noticed it said 9am. Harry watched as his Uncle threw down is morning paper before storming towards the front door. Harry and Rose poked their head around the door and watched as Vernon opened it. There stood outside was a very tall eloquent elderly looking lady.
"Good morning Mr Dursley. I am here to take Harry and Rose shopping for their school supplies, are they both ready?"
To say Vernon was shocked was an understatement. He turned his head and noticed both his niece and nephew heads vanish from around the door. He then turned back to the old woman in front of him.
"You're one of them aren't you?"
Minerva looked confused at the man now stood in front of her, well if you would call him a man, Minerva was certain he resembled a walrus more than a man. She was also aware the hatred this man had for her kind. However she wasn't just going to stand here and be this muggle personal punching bag.
"If you a referring to me being a witch then yes, I am one of those. I came here today to take Harry and Rose for their school supplies. Seeing how you and your wife hate magic I assumed it would be easier for me to take the twins."
Vernon growled. "They will not be attending your freakish school. We swore when we took them in that we would put a stop to all this nonsense. They will attending a special school where they will learn to live like we normal people do. So there." Vernon was about to shut the door in the old woman's face, when he suddenly froze as now pointing at him was a small stick.
To say Minerva was disgusted was an understatement. How dare this fat muggle call Hogwarts a school for freaks. Hogwarts was one of the most prestige school in the wizarding world. Harry and Rose had been put down for a place the moment they were born. Minerva was wondering if Harry and Rose knew anything about the magical world, including who their parents were. Going on what this muggle was shouting she had come to the conclusion that they had never been told nothing of who they were or of what they had done as children.
"Harry, Rose come here please."
Minerva noticed the two twins came out of the kitchen and walked towards the door. To say Minerva was disgusted at the state of both twins. Clearly Albus had not been checking up on the two of them as he had so promised. It seems not only were they going school shopping today, but clothes shopping as well. Minerva knew how rich the Potters were and know doubt these too had a nice little lump sum in their trust funds just for this occasion. Minerva then noticed Vernon turn and give both twins a death glare.
"If you to leave this house, don't expect to be welcomed back." Harry and Rose looked at each other, if they left with this woman then it was likely that they wouldn't be returning back here any time soon. Both twins liked the sound of that and marched right past Vernon and stood next to the woman now holding a strange stick at their uncles face.
"Mr Dursley after seeing how you have treated these two children, I very much doubt they will ever be back. Until term starts they will both be staying in a inn near where they will boarding the Hogwarts express and travel to Hogwarts for their first term."
Vernon just huffed. "Good. I was getting fed up the freaks being here anyway. Now get off my property before I call the police to have you removed." Vernon then slammed the door in their faces.
Minerva placed her wand back in her holster. She would be having serious words with Dumbledore when she returned back to Hogwarts. Minerva then looked down at both twins. Her heart broke at seeing them both dressed in clothes twice the size of them, not mention their clothes were dirty too. Minerva removed her wand, she noticed the fear in the two twin eyes.
"There is no reason to be alarmed, I am just going to tidy you both up a little."
Minerva then waved her wand over both twins and watched as their clothes were transfigured into something that both fitted them, and the dirt and grime all removed. Minerva then smiled. "That is much better, now both of you take my hands, you my feel a strange sensation, but I asked that you keep hold of my hand until we have reached our destination."
Harry and Rose and both took hold of the old witches hand. They then found themselves suddenly vanishing. They reappearing in a busy alley filled with all sorts of shops. The most surprising thing was how everyone was dressed. Harry and Rose felt like they were in a different world. Men and women walking around with huge pointy hat, many with laughing children.
"Excuse me Miss, but where are we?" Minerva led both Twins into the alley. She watched as both took in the sites.
"This Rose is Diagon Alley, this where we will buy all your school supplies, but first we need to make a trip to the bank." Minerva then led both Twins towards a huge white marble building that stood in the middle of the alley. Once inside Harry and Rose clung onto Minerva for dear life. They were surrounded by odd looking green creatures.
"Excuse me Professor, but what are those?"
Minerva noticed Harry was pointing at the various small creatures now running around them. Minerva led the twins further into the bank, until they came to a small counter, where one of the creature now sat behind. "To answer your question Harry, they are called Goblins, they are responsible for all our money here in the wizarding world. Now you two stand behind me and let me do the talking." Minerva then turned to the Goblin, who was now giving the witch in front of him his full attention.
"How can I be of assistance to you today Professor." The Goblin eyes then widened as he noticed the two children now stood behind the professor, he could see both their scar visible on their heads. The Goblin frowned this is not what he expected their two richest clients would be dressed as, not to mention both were skin and bones. "Professor my I ask why Master and Miss Potter look so underfed and dressed in rags?
Minerva sighed. She perfectly knew why the Goblins were taking interest in her two wards, the Potters were a rich and Noble Family. Their vault was over flowing with gold and it earned the Goblins a nice little profit. This was why the Goblin was interested, they made sure to take great care of their more wealthy clients.
"Master Goblin, I understand your concern, but I assure you Master and Miss Potter are fine. Now they would both like to make a withdrawal from their respective vaults. Could this be arranged. Oh and here are both their keys."
The Goblin sneered as he saw both keys laid out in front of him. "My I ask professor why Master and Miss Potter keys were not on their person? This is a serious breach in our laws professor and as such I must inform the director. Would you please take both the Potter Twins over to those seats and wait for me. I will keep hold of these keys too."
Minerva sighed, she didn't want to cause a scene so she led the two twins over to the seats and waited. Just then the Goblin returned.
"The director will now see you Professor. Please bring the Potter twins with you." Minerva followed the Goblin while holding both Harry and Rose's hand. She wasn't sure how the twins were feeling with all this going on. However she did noticed the fear in both their eyes. They soon arrived at huge set of double door. The Goblin pushed them open to reveal a huge room with a huge desk and well dressed looking Goblin sat behind it.
Ragnok looked to the door. His colleague hadn't been lying when he said the Potter Twins were looking less than satisfactory. They should have been dressed in the finest robes and at least a few more stone then they both were. Ragnok was not to pleased that the Twin had not been in possession of their own vault keys. This needed investigating. Ragnok was well aware who the twins magical guardian was, the headmaster had also been helping himself to a bit of gold from the Potter family vault. The director had been certain it was to give to the twins guardian so they could have all they needed growing up, but it looked like not a single knut had been spent on these two. This would not do.
"Professor McGonagall, if you would take a seat and please bring the twins over with you. Now I understand that you had Mister and Miss Potter vault key. Please could you explain to me why they were in your possession and not theirs?"
Minerva sighed. "Albus Dumbledore handed them to me before I left to collect them from their guardians. He told me to walk up to the desk and a Goblin called Axehandle would take the Twins to their vaults as that is what he had arranged."
Ragnok smiled, so that was the old fools game. Get few clerks under his thumb, so he could do what he pleased. Well it stops now. Axehandle would be dealt with, accordingly. Now though he had to take care of the twins. After all the Potters had been very good to the Goblin nation over the years, and so it was time they repay the favour. "Minerva looking at both Twins I would very much wish that they visit our infirmary. They are both clearly suffering from malnutrition, plus I want my staff to check for other problems."
Minerva gulped, she was in a very tricky situation here. Had she been out of the bank then she could quite easily deny the director request, however being on Goblin soul meant she was in no position to argue, especially being how protective the Goblin were being of Harry and Rose. On the other hand maybe it was a good idea that both went to the infirmary. Goblin healer were far better than human healers. "Very well Director, maybe it is best that both Harry and Rose do see one of your healers."
Goblin Infirmary
Harry and Rose laid in separate beds as Minerva stood watching over both of them. They had agreed to taking the treatment as long as she was present. Both had been fed a mixture of potions that would help treat their Malnutrition. She had also been told that the Director had sent out one of his Goblin to purchase new clothes and Robes for the children. There was some good news tthough, from the check up it seems no physical abuse had been dealt out to either of the children. Minerva had been dreading the Goblins would have found something, but it seemed her fears were unfounded as both were good health apart from the Malnutrition problem. Harry had also had his vision corrected no longer needed his glasses. Magic truly was a wonderful thing
Several hours later with a case full of potions the trio left the bank. Both Harry and Rose dressed in robes of the finest quality, each with a sack full of gold from their respective vaults. The Director had told both children that as soon as they had turned fourteen then they both needed to come and see him.
The day had almost fully gone so Minerva knew they had to quick with their purchase. The quickly walked in Madame Malkins and bought their school robes, they then visited Florish and Blotts and bought their various text books and few extra book for reading material. Minerva had laughed at the twins as they picked their quills and ink pots, the two didn't seem to know what to do with them, or what they were for. That was when Minerva had explained that they were for writing, she had then asked the twins what they use to writing with and they had told her a Biro. Minerva was intrigued by this muggle tool and decided after they had finished their shopping then they would venture into the muggle world to find one. After Florish and Blotts, both twins bought their cauldron and potions sets. However the most interesting place had been the pet shop. Both twins had been drawn to two owls. One was black and the other was white. It had turned out that both owls were from the same nest so it was only fitting that the twins purchased both. Harry chose the white owl and called it Hedwig, while Rose chose the black owl and called Olive. After they had bought the bits and pieces it was then a simple task of finding them both a wand.
Minerva and the twins entered a very old looking shop called Ollivanders. The twins noticed an old man standing behind the counter, however soon as he saw Harry and Rose he smiled.
"I was wondering when I would be seeing you two." The old then vanished into the back. He carried on talking while he was looking a various wand boxes. "It seems only a few years since your mother and father purchased their first wand. Ah here we are." Ollivander then walked back to the counter carrying various boxes. However none of the wands matched. "Hmm tricky customers. No matter." The wand maker then went right to the back of the shop before pulling out another box. "I wonder?" Ollivender bought the wand box back to the counter, he then opened the box to reveal two wands, however one was missing. Soon as Harry and Rose had held their wands a huge bright light illuminated both of them. "Interesting, very interesting." It was Harry who decided to speak up
"Excuse me sir, but what is interesting?" The old wand maker smiled down at both twins. He then began to pick various wand cleaning kits and holster before laying them on the counter.
"I remember every wand I ever sold Mr Potter, the Phoenix feather that resides in your wand only gave two others. One is the wand of your twin next to you. However the wand missing from the box was the one that gave you both your scars."
Minerva quickly intervened. "I think that is enough information Mr Ollivander. If you please add up all the purchases we would very much like to get back on track with the rest of our shopping." Of course this was lie, this was the last item on the list. Still the twins didn't need to know just yet who exactly owned the third wand of their set."
Ollivander nodded in understanding. "Yes Professor you are quite right. I will only charge you for the wand kit and the holsters. Consider the wands a late birthday present. Now in total that will be 10 galleons."
Harry and Rose were shocked with the generosity of the old wand maker, they had never received a birthday present before. Both twins decided there and then that they would take great care of their wands as it was their first real birthday present. Once all the purchases had been made there was just enough time to run into the muggle world to get a box of Biro pens, and another strange item, an A4 pad of lined paper. When Minerva asked why the twin had bought a pad each, they had explained that their work would be much neater and easier to read then using parchment and quill pen. Minerva was wondering how they other professor would react to receiving their school work on this strange pad. She had asked the twins for a small demonstration, and was surprised that indeed the twins had been correct, she could hardly read what they had written on the Parchment, however when she was handed the sheet of lined paper she could read very clearly what they had written. This needed to be bought up a staff meeting, clearly their world was living in the past.
Once back at the small inn the three sat down for dinner. Minerva noticed the twin were not bothered about eating and she wondered why. "Is there anything wrong you two?"
Rose looked into the professor eyes. "Professor Harry and i was wondering if you could tell us anything about our parents. You see we had been told by our uncle that our mother and father had been drunk and died in car crash, however we had survived just with these scars."
To say Minerva was livid was understatement. How dare those muggle make out Lily and James to be drunks. "Your parents were two of the nicest students i had pleasure to teach. Your mother was a very gifted witch and excelled in all her studies. Your father on the other hand, well lets just say he was a real character. After they had both graduated i decided to keep in touch with them. I attended their wedding and i also attended both of your births. Harry was first of course then an hour later you arrived Rose. I had never seen your parents so happy. However soon a Dark Lord began to target certain families. Your parents had become one of these targets. They both died bravely trying to protect you and Harry, so no your parents were not drunks, but heroes in many people's eyes."
Rose shed a tear at how Minerva had described there parents, it seems nothing was the truth that came out of their aunt and uncles mouth. Rose was happy that they would never be going back. After the small conversations, both twins found their appetites once more. one the meal was over Minerva walked over to Tom and enquired about a room being available. She was surprised to learn that he only had one room left. Not wanting to miss out Minerva booked the room, she wasn't sure how she was going to explain this to the twins.
"Harry and Rose, Tom has just informed that he only has one room spare, so you will both have to share." Minerva had been expecting a protest however she was shocked when both twin just sighed.
"It's okay professor, we have shared a bed since we were little. So it is no big deal. Besides sleeping alone after so many years being together would feel rather strange."
Minerva decided to file this information away for later. Clearly these two had been denied the basic essential of a childhood. Albus would certainly be getting an earful tonight. Minerva then hugged both twins and told them that she would be here tomorrow to escort them onto the Hogwarts express. She then left through the fire place leaving both twins to collect their room key from Tom, and then to retire upstairs.
