Chapter 2
Watching the irate Snape pace back and forth behind where the very pale Fred and George were sitting, Sirius let out a ragged breath. Oh, this was plenty bad! Shaking his head, he glanced down the table. Remus was shaking slightly, looking pale himself. Lucius just had a—stunned look on his face, the only way he knew how to describe it, as he examined the mark on his arm. Narcissa was right next to him, shaking badly, looking like she was ready to cry, clutching onto her husband's arm with both hands. Draco was seated right next to Charlie, pale as a ghost, trembling badly. Charlie just had his head in his hands, elbows resting on the table. Shutting his eyes and shaking his head, Sirius didn't know what to make of this.
So far, it was a fucking nightmare, that's all there was to it. Anyone, who had been in a room or close to someone else, seemed to have been struck by whatever spell was cast and ended up bonded with them. Though they all had different types of marks, they were all bond marks. At the moment, they weren't going to try to figure out just what the different marks meant as they had so much else to worry about.
Snape and Lucius—their Dark Marks were gone. For Lucius, that was a damned good thing. Snape, yeah, that wasn't good as it basically negated him being a spy for Albus. It seemed that this bond, whatever it was, overrode any other kind, such as the Dark Mark. Albus was going to have kneazles over that part. And that wasn't the only thing that they found out so far.
When all hell was breaking loose, plenty of people had shown, Albus being amongst the first of them. He and Snape had tried to go check around the house, staying inside the wards where it was safe, of course. When they tried, though, and Snape was too far away from the twins, he was literally yanked back by the spell until he was within ten feet of them. That was not good. He had then tried it with Harry and Bill, attempting to go upstairs to see what happened. Yeah, it was the same thing because he about tumbled down the stairs as he was yanked back so fast and hard. If he hadn't had hold of the railing, he's damned sure that's what would have happened. This was—bloody fucking hell, it was bad.
Glancing at Harry and Bill as he took a sip of his beer, Sirius sighed. Of all of them, those two didn't seem to be taking it too badly. Oh, they didn't look happy, that's for damned sure, but they weren't in the shape the others were in. Instead, they were talking quietly, examining the bond mark, trying to figure out what some of it meant. Sirius supposed, at least on some level, he understood that. If the two were that close and their relationship was headed that way anyway, this would make it easier on them. What they didn't need was him involved in the mess was all! That—no!
Groaning then scrubbing both hands through his hair, he sighed. This—fuck! He did not need bonded to his damned godson! Bill either! The two deserved to be happy without him. On top of that, he wouldn't even think about their ages. Yeah, Bill was older than Harry, by quite a lot. He was older than Bill by over a decade and was old enough to be Harry's father. Then there was the fact that he had known Harry as a baby, holding and playing with him during that time. He wouldn't even dwell on his relationship with James and Lily. Fuck! No, he didn't think the two would be upset with him over this, as he had no bloody choice in it, but still it was the idea.
Shaking his head, he glanced around then at the door. At the moment, a shite-tonne of people were around trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Albus was here, of course. Tonks and Kingsley were also, though they were with the Aurors outside trying to sort through what went on and helping the other Ministry departments that were trying to work with the situation. Because of the attack, Muggle authorities were involved, something causing a mess. That meant they had all kinds of people around. Arthur and several others were checking the wards and looking for any kind of damage that had been done to the house. None of them thought anything happened there, but it was better safe than sorry, obviously. Plenty of other Order members were about as well, trying to help with all they could. Thankfully, Molly and the younger set weren't. That was coming, he figured that, but for now they were at the Burrow. Albus didn't want to chance them around at the moment. And they sure as hell didn't need them underfoot until they could all figure out what the hell happened and just what that spell was, let alone the fact they needed to see if it could be reversed. It was going to be a nightmare, in and of itself, that chunk. Sirius had a sneaking suspicion that whatever happened wasn't reversible. And that had him more pissed than he was before!
Downing the last of his beer and sending for another, Sirius looked down at Lucius and Remus then was about to ask some questions to see if they could figure part of this out. Before he could, though, he was startled by a pair of very regal looking owls swooping in. His brow furrowed and he got a bewildered look on his face as he had no idea who the owls were from, let alone how they got in. He watched as they swooped over then dropped letters in front of Lucius and Narcissa. That had him on edge. The two were hiding here to stay safe, so any mail came through a different way than normal owl post. Seeing Lucius open his letter then his eyes widen and the man start to shake, he asked, tone wary as he wasn't sure if this was some kind of problem, “What's that? Anything to worry about?”
“It's divorce papers,” Lucius almost whispered, trembling. Reaching out, he put a hand on his now ex-wife's shaking arm, giving it a squeeze. Looking at her, seeing her almost in tears as she read through the papers, he shook his head. There wasn't a damned thing he could do about this. Putting the paper on the table then downing the rest of the wine in his glass, he said, voice uneven, “That's enough to tell me that this probably isn't reversible.”
“It has to be!” Snape snarled, stopping his pacing and glaring at Lucius. “I cannot stay bonded to these two! And I'm needed as a spy! I can't do that if my Mark stays gone!”
Haunted looks on their faces, Fred and George glanced at each other before they looked around. “This—we can't handle this,” Fred said, voice uneven.
“No! There has to be a way around it,” George added, shaking his head. The mere thought that they were going to have to put up with Snape for the rest of their lives was enough to stop any kind of joking he would use to deal with the situation. He didn't even want to ponder how bad that might end up!
Lifting his head then resting his chin on his fists, Charlie looked at Bill, shaking his head. “This is—bloody hell! We need to figure this out! I have to be back at work Monday! And if I can't separate from Draco, that's going to be impossible!”
“I just wanted to hear about dragons,” the stunned Draco muttered unevenly, still trembling, eyes overly wide at the implications of this.
Taking a sip of his butterbeer, trying not to get it all over himself as he was shaking badly, Remus then set the bottle back on the table before clasping his hands and resting his elbows on the edge of it. Looking around, he said, voice slightly uneven, “I think we need to figure out what the bond marks mean first. As they're all different, when it comes to the specific bondings, it has to mean something. We have to figure that out before we can even start to press on to see if it can be broken. If it's not, we then have a line as to what it might mean for all of us. Once we know that, we can work on how to deal with whatever implications comes from it.” Honestly? He was as off-kilter as the rest of them over this. And the idea of being bonded to Lucius for life was enough to cause anxiety attacks. That? Oh, no! He and Tonks had plans and this—no!
Rubbing a hand over his face then smoothing down his goatee, Sirius nodded. He doubted there was a damned thing any of them could do, but it at least got them all to focus on something other than how bad this could end up. Rolling up his sleeve, he held out his arm for Remus to see. Seeing Harry and Bill do the same, he then looked around as the rest that had been affected did the same thing. Brow furrowed, he looked at them. All of them were completely different. Other than being a bond mark, they didn't even remotely resemble each other. Of all of them, his, Harry's and Bill's were the most elaborate. Glancing around again, making sure he got a good look at all of them, he said, shaking his head, “This has to mean something. I mean, ours is far more elaborate and intricate than anyone else's. And it's a different color with far more definition.” The others, aside from the shapes that weren't even close, were more of a washed out color without so many details. That—it made no sense as they were all hit with the same thing.
Reaching over to finger his son's mark, as Draco was seated closest to him, Lucius quickly yanked his hand back, hissing and shaking it. Brow furrowed, he said, “It actually has some kind of barrier around it that burns if you try to touch it. That—I've never heard of a bond that did that.”
Looking at Remus, whose brow was furrowed as well, Sirius shook his head. Reaching over, he fingered Harry's mark. There was nothing like Lucius described there. Of course, that was probably because they were bonded together. Shaking his head, he rose slightly then tried with Remus'. Quickly, he yanked his hand back, shaking it. It felt like he had been bitten. “Blood hell,” he breathed, eyes wide. “What the hell?”
Looking around, taking in what was happening, arms folded over his chest, Severus' brow furrowed. “Was it a burn, Black?”
“No, it felt like I was bitten!” Sirius told him, eyes wide.
Not sure what to make of that, Severus thought it over, brows drawn down. Thinking it over, he said, tone distracted, “One of you try with Fred or George's and see what happens. Then Black, Potter or Bill's. Let's gauge the reaction of theirs.”
Nodding, Charlie reached out to touch Fred's. Immediately, he yanked his hand back. “And that stung, badly, like those buzzers that shock you.”
As Bill was closest to him, Remus reached out to try, though wary because of the reactions of the others. Quickly, as he got close to the mark, he pulled his hand back, shaking it. Glancing around, he said, “That one is different as well. It's almost like a combination of being bitten and the reaction you get from being too close to a curse, the burning type thing.” Shaking his head, glancing down at his own mark, fingering it, he said, “That makes no form of sense! If it was the same spell, the reaction should be the same. Bonds—there are many different ones, we all know that, but they should react the same if we were hit by the same spell!”
Looking around, trying to think so he could focus on something besides how bad this was, Severus shook his head, not sure what to do. Lupin was entirely right in what he said. So, this made no form of sense. After a few moments, he said, “Get some parchment and quills. We'll take readings of each other's marks, the ones bonded together. Once we have that, we'll start comparing to see what we can figure out.”
Sending an elf off for the requested items, Lucius then said, “And someone, somewhere, needs to figure out what spell it was that came through those wards. We know we ended up bonded, but I doubt it's the spell that was cast. That will give us some kind of clue as to what we're working with when it comes to this. At the very least, we can judge some kind of reaction that might come from it.”
Pleased to have something to do besides panic, everyone grabbed some parchment and a quill when the elves brought them and went to work. At the very least, it was a jumping off point to working with the mess and would give them a base for working with what was there.
Stroking his beard as he read through the readings everyone took of the marks, Albus shook his head. Putting the parchments down, he glanced around from his seat at the head of the table. “I'm not sure what this means. I'll take the readings with me, of course, and see what I can find, but this is reacting differently than any bond I've ever heard of. As you were all hit with the same spell, it should be the same for all. These readings—they are all different, completely. It's as though the bonds aren't the same. That I can't figure out.”
Sitting by Bill, pale, Arthur looked at Albus then asked, “Any idea what spell they cast to cause this?” He didn't know how to handle this. Four of his children were now bonded and it was doubtful it was something breakable. To men no less. Not only was that something he wasn't sure how to handle, but he now had the task of going home and explaining it to the rest of his family. That wasn't going to be pleasant. Especially when it came to Molly.
“Not at the moment, no,” Albus said, blowing out a breath. “The DMLE and Aurors have samples of spell residue from what was cast. It's going to take time for them to sort through what all was thrown at the house then figure out what they were. I've told them that the spell that caused this was among the first cast. That should help them sort through it, hopefully. It's just going to take time is all.”
“Is it reversible? Or don't you know?” Arthur asked, glancing between his sons then looking at Albus.
“Let's see what they find for us. We're not going to be able to determine anything until we know what was done,” Albus told him. Lowering his voice, schooling it into something soothing, he said, quietly, “It's doubtful though. Bonds tend to be unbreakable unless death comes to one of those bonded. Even then, it's not really broken, just changed slightly.”
Snarling, Severus began pacing faster behind the twins, going to the limit the bond would allow him without being yanked back. Arms folded over his chest, he looked murderous. “We need to figure this out. The tether isn't long enough for any of us to be effective at anything! None of us can accomplish anything with as short of a 'leash' as we have on us!”
“True,” Charlie nodded. “Bill and I have to work. Fred and George have a shop to run. And there are plenty of other things others have to do. There has to be a way to lengthen the 'leash' so we can actually do something!”
“I don't know,” Albus said, shaking his head, looking between all of them. “Let me see what I can find. All of you need to work with it on your ends to see what you can do. I'm going to suggest that all of you stay here until you can. In the groups, you need to go get things you need from your homes. The elves can work on expanding and cleaning rooms for you to stay in. I think it's safest for all of you to stay here, what with all that just happened.”
Glaring at the headmaster, looking furious, Severus ground his teeth. Just—NO! He was not staying in a room with Fred and George! That wouldn't end well and he'd end up hexing the two.
Looking around, sipping from his flask, Moody said, “I'm going to suggest that we send everyone with several people to do this. For safety sake. Consider who we have to do this with in some cases. That's dangerous!”
“I agree,” Albus nodded. “And we have to be fast with it.”
Looking at Charlie then his eyes sliding to the almost green looking Draco, Arthur sighed then said, “Maybe, in a couple cases here, we need to send elves to do this. I don't think we want to chance Draco and Harry going anywhere, what with all that's going on. It's doubtful the other side knows just what happened, but we might not want to chance this. Severus, Fred and George should be fine.”
“That might be the way to go,” Albus nodded. “And it'll make it easier on us to send more people.” Glancing between Bill and Charlie, he asked, “Is this fine with the two of you?”
“Fine with me,” Bill said without thinking about it. “It shouldn't be hard for them to grab everything.” As far as he was concerned, this was good. It meant he could be around Harry all the time and help with so much.
Thinking it over, Charlie nodded slowly, “I can deal with that. They can grab the basics and I'll go from there. I just have to worry about work come Monday. We'll see what presents itself between now and then.”
“Good,” Albus said, pleased. “Let's get this set up. We just have to deal with Severus, Fred and George. Just grab the basics and we'll work from there.”
“We need to get the clerks to cover for us over the weekend,” Fred said.
“They can handle that,” George sighed, not too pleased about this.
“Let's get on that and I'll stay here to see what we can determine about the bond,” Albus said, pressing on and doling out orders as to who was going to do what.
Sitting on the bed with Bill, being held by him, Harry glanced at the mostly closed door to the bathroom. Sirius was in there taking a shower. They learned, quickly, if they shut the door completely, the bond would yank them back together. If they didn't, they had a slightly longer tether. So, they kept the bathroom door partially open. Sirius had been in there a long time by now. Harry was sure that his poor godfather was trying to drown himself in the shower or something because this was bad. Sirius wasn't taking this well at all, that's for sure. He could understand that.
Leaning heavily against Bill, he looked down at his arm and examined the mark again though he was sure he knew what it looked like by heart by now. Sighing, he shook his head.
Giving Harry a squeeze, Bill rested his chin on Harry's shoulder then said, “We'll work something out, Harry. Even if it isn't breakable.”
“I know,” Harry said, leaning his head back and shutting his eyes. Giving a small shrug, he said, “Honestly? I don't see it as all that horrible. You and I wanted to be together anyway. This accomplished that. And considering who else was in the house, Sirius isn't all that bad to deal with. He might not see it that way, but I do. We all get along fine. Besides, I adore him. You know that. We'll just see what this presses for and go from there. You're not going to hear me complain too much.” Lowering his voice, though there was no one to overhear, he added, “I kinda' like it. It means I get to spend as much time as I want with the both of you and no one can try to keep us apart like they've been over the years. And there isn't anything anyone can do about it. That's not bad at all.”
Thinking that over, Bill nodded. “I guess I didn't look at it from that point of view, but you're right. Whatever they think to pull, they can't anymore. Plus, it saves on a huge mess with my family. Mum's going to throw a major wobbler, we know that, so will some others, but there isn't a damned thing any of them can do anymore. It's also going to stop whatever the hell is going on with Albus. He can't keep pulling what he has over the years anymore. There are plenty of problems, we get that, but we now have to work them out and people can't pull strange shite with you anymore. This is good.” Stopping and thinking it over, he then grinned a little and added, “Let them try. You have not only the four of us that have been protecting you since you were 14 in the house now, but Sirius is bonded to us. Anyone tries anything and they won't know what hit them!”
Laughing, Harry nodded, “I didn't think about that, but it's true! That could end up most interesting!”
Looking up as Sirius came out, seeing the dejected look on his face, Bill sighed. Sirius wasn't going to take this well, that's for sure. He got that, of course, but it was going to take some work to deal with it. It was something he thought Harry should take on. After all, Harry meant the world to Sirius. Other than Remus, Sirius really had no one in the world anymore. Add in as protective as Sirius was of Harry then how he would give his godson anything and Harry might be able to manage with this.
Giving Harry a kiss on the shoulder, Bill nudged him to move. “Let me go take my shower and get ready. Then Harry can.” Seeing Sirius nod and feeling Harry shift around to let him off the bed, he slid off then gathered his things before heading to the shower. Normally, as Sirius knew of the relationship, he would just have Harry join him, but he thought it best to leave Harry alone with Sirius so they could talk. That might help.
Watching Bill leave the room then hearing the shower start, Harry looked at Sirius. Crossing his ankles and drawing up his legs, so his feet were planted on the bed, he then wrapped his arms around his shins and said, “It'll work out, Sirius. Nothing to worry about.”
Snorting, Sirius combed his fingers through his wet hair and sighed, dropping down to sit on the edge of the bed, “Yeah, it will, one way or another. That doesn't mean that I have to like it.”
Giving a shrug, Harry told him, “It could be worse, you know.”
“I know,” Sirius admitted, looking at his godson. “I get you and Bill aren't that miserable as it was headed that way from what I got from our talk earlier, it's just you don't need me added into it.”
“Yeah, well, I'm not complaining too much,” Harry admitted with a shrug. “I think you're both great, just in a different way is all. I can't see how it'll end up that badly, even if it's not breakable. It just means we get to know each other better, something we've been trying to do for a long time now.”
Looking at his godson, Sirius couldn't help but smile a little. Reaching out and ruffling Harry's hair, he said, “Yeah, it does, doesn't it? That's not a bad thing. And we get to spend plenty of time together, something both of us have wanted since we met. That's not bad.”
“It's not,” Harry agreed, smiling. “No matter what else comes of it, that's great. The rest? We'll deal with it as it comes. It can't be worse than anything else we've had to live through, can it?”
“There is that,” Sirius grinned. Giving Harry a playful nudge, he said, “We can just be thankful we weren't in the room with Snape! Of all of us involved in this mess, it's Fred and George I feel sorry for! They now have to put up with him for the foreseeable future. That won't end pretty.”
“It won't,” Harry grinned. “They aren't his students anymore and won't put up with him. And they own a prank shop. He has it bad. And if he thinks his attitude is going to work with them and they won't get even, he's sadly mistaken! Plus, they can use him to test products on if he irritates them too much. He's going to quickly learn that he better quit. They just won't like him being around all the time and his snarky attitude”
Laughing, Sirius nodded, a grin on his face, “I didn't think of that, but it's true! He'll quickly learn to stop the shite if he knows what's good for him.”
“And Draco is going to learn that being a spoiled brat with Charlie won't work. I mean, Charlie deals with dragons. Draco's attitude won't work with him as Charlie is used to dealing with tantrums that come with belching flames. He'll just ignore it. Plus he knows plenty of stunning spells to use if Draco doesn't stop.”
Laughing harder, Sirius nodded vigorously, “Very true! A Draco tantrum is nothing compared to that of a mother dragon defending her eggs!” Snickering, shoulders shaking, he added, “And Lucius—he doesn't know what he's dealing with there. Remus might be quiet and mild mannered, but he's still a werewolf. Those aren't known for being submissive, even in the times between the full moons. He just keeps it under control and doesn't let it show. Besides, he's not apt to put up with too much.”
“I think we got the better end of the deal here,” Harry told him, still grinning. “We know what we're dealing with and get along fine.”
Flopping back and propping himself up on his elbows, Sirius looked at Harry then said, “Yeah, we did. I don't suppose I looked at it that way. It just means we're more apt to talk it out or try to work with it rather than fighting. That's good. Besides, there's already a pretty good established relationship with all of us. That will only help.” Lowering his voice a little, he added, grinning slightly, “And it gets Fleur away from Bill. There's not a damned thing she can do about this.”
“True!” Harry agreed. “That wasn't going to have a good outcome, no matter how he went about it. We can expect a drama-fest over it, no doubt there, but it solves a big problem. And it stops the other ones in their tracks, something I know he wasn't worried about, but I was.”
Looking at Harry, Sirius asked, tone serious again, “How bad is going to get with Molly, do you know? I mean, she can't do anything about this and it wasn't anything we did, but from what you two said, it's not something she's going to handle well.”
After a glance at the partially open bathroom door, Harry sighed then shook his head, “I don't know. From what I do, this isn't going to be nice. Bill's at the end of what he can deal with when it comes to her and with so much. I know you haven't heard anything about that end, but it's not pretty. He's plenty fed up with lots of things. Charlie, too. The twins—they deal a bit better and try to stay away. With her being disapproving of the shop, they don't have too much to worry about most times. I just think—there's a blow up coming from it. As stressful as this is going to end up, something big is coming. Bill is—you don't want to know. Charlie is the same way. This might push it. Because as stressful as so much is bound to be, if Mrs. Weasley goes overboard, I don't see either of them holding back. They'll try, as they've always done, but the end is here. We were sure that was going to happen before the summer was over anyway, what with me turning 17. That was going to cause problems because Bill was going to have to deal with Fleur over it before it grew worse. And if anyone from that end starts, you can expect an explosion. I just—don't know.”
Taking that in and thinking it over, Sirius nodded with a sigh. With what he'd seen of Bill, he knew the oldest Weasley son had no problem telling his mother no on things. A big example of that was her always wanting to cut his hair. Couple that in with what he'd heard earlier and he was sure that Bill wouldn't have a problem putting her in her place. “How bad will this end up for you if it blows up?” He asked his godson softly.
“I'm not worried about Mrs. Weasley, honestly,” Harry told him. “She won't blow up in my direction from all I've seen. She's more apt to blame Bill. Ginny—that's one I'm worried about, but not about her blowing up. It's more like her trying something stupid to get her way. Ron and Hermione are going to lose it. We're already planning for that. Ron is just going to flip that I'm with Bill and won't be nice about some of what he says. He's—narrow minded about plenty of things. Hermione—she's not going to like it either. Though she's opened minded about plenty of things and wants rights for the house elves, that does not extend to gays. She's a typical Muggle when it comes to that. Well, of the kind that follows religious teachings on that topic. She's open minded on other areas. Couple that with how she's so close to Ginny and it's going to be nasty. From what I know, she's the one that's been giving Ginny advice on how to land me for the last couple of years. A couple of others have told me that it's down to Ginny trying to make me jealous and just biding her time before I notice her. That wasn't ever going to happen. I'm gathering that most everyone on that end of things thinks it's inevitable that I'll end up with her. They're just waiting for me to get with it. So, I'm expecting plenty of fallout.” Giving a shrug, he added, “I don't care, honestly. It's not worth it and it won't matter. It just means that I'll have to put up with some crap. That I can easily do.”
“No, you won't,” Sirius told him firmly. “They aren't going to pull that shite with you. If they do, they'll deal with me. All there is to it. I don't care what they think they want or planned for, it's your life. You could do with it what you wanted. And who you are with is your choice. If they don't like it, they can take it up with me. I am not going to put up with their shite or allow them to give it to you. All there is to that.”
Smiling at that, Harry nodded. “I appreciate that, believe me.”
“Part of my job,” Sirius told him firmly. “What about Arthur? Do you know?”
“I don't,” Harry admitted with a shake of his head. “That can go either way. Bill's leaning seems to be that his dad is going to do whatever makes it easier on himself. Charlie feels the same way. After all, he has to live with Mrs. Weasley and she can make his life miserable if he doesn't do what she wants. And she has, plenty of times from what I know.” Stopping, Harry looked at the bathroom door again then said, softly, “My leanings are that Mr. Weasley might make a stand this time. He honestly loves all his kids and is proud of Bill, Charlie and the twins. He's given them all the help and encouragement he could, even if he had to do it behind Mrs. Weasley's back. From some of what he's said to them, he seems to understand why they all left home and stay away. This time—it might be the one thing that makes him stand up to her. He's done it before, like the chunk with Percy. So, maybe, rather than losing the sons he does love, he might again. I honestly think that he knows how fed up they are with so much. Some of what he's said seems to point there. There's also the fact that he's said some strange things to me that leans me towards thinking he knows something is up with me and Bill. And not in a bad way. It's always done with a smile and sounds like he approves. I don't know though. We'll see. It's just going to depend on how bad this gets. If Bill and Charlie completely lose it on Mrs. Weasley, he might side with his wife. If it's slightly calmer, he might not, I don't know.”
Sighing, Sirius nodded to let Harry know he heard, but was thinking that over. With what he knew of Molly and Arthur, he was damned sure that Molly had cut Arthur's balls off long ago and kept them in her pocket. The man was fine when alone and stood his ground with most of them when he felt he needed to, but that wasn't how it was with her. So, he could see where it might go either way. Shaking his head, he sighed, “That's going to be bad. No matter which way it plays out.”
“It was coming anyway,” Harry admitted. “This is just probably going to push it faster is all. It might be better doing it now, honestly. It gets it over and we press on from there. I'm not real worried about it. Bill said he'd handle it and I'm content to let him do that.”
“Yeah, well, if they drag you in, it's not Bill they need to worry about,” Sirius told him firmly. “That includes Ron and Hermione. I don't care. They don't like any of it, it's me they'll deal with. And they won't like it if I have to.” Stopping, he sighed then said, “We won't worry about that now. We have plenty of other things we need to concern ourselves with that this we won't. If it comes, it does. If not, we have plenty of stuff to deal with.”
Snickering, Harry said, “You might have to compete with Bill on that. He's already said that they have to worry about him first and he won't either. With what he's like, I almost feel sorry for them if they do.” Seeing his godfather look at him, eyebrows arched, Harry grinned then said, “I call him Sirius the second because of how protective of me he is. So, they will get blasted from both of you. That will end up bad.”
Grinning at that, Sirius said, “Yeah, well, when both of us are done with them, they'll think twice before they open their mouths around you again! I damned well guarantee it!” Still grinning, he said, “Yeah, I think, finally I'm getting what you were saying earlier; this might not be so bad. It's not what we wanted, but we can deal.”
“We can,” Harry told him firmly. “We'll manage. It's just going to take time. Nothing more.”
“We will,” Sirius nodded, sitting up as Bill came in. “Alright, get your shower, Harry. I'm going to call an elf to see about getting the bed enlarged. That way we don't shove each other out of it tonight. I'm exhausted and want to sleep. As I'm sure tomorrow won't be any better than today, we all need rest.”
Bailing off the bed, Harry gave Bill a kiss then headed towards the bathroom after gathering his things.
Watching his godson go, Sirius thought that he might actually like this, at least so far. He'd have to see what else came of it then he'd judge. At the very least, he'd finally have a good, steady relationship with Harry, one that no one could interfere with. That was worth almost anything else.
