Even though the trip to Asguard was nothing like apperating she still felt as if her stomach was still in Harry and Ginny’s yard. It felt too much like flying but without any of the control that comes with a broom, more like one of those dreams where you fall and fall and you know that when you land you’ll be dead however you wake up before you land and your left with that uncomfortable feeling in your stomach. She took a calming breath and straightened up looking around the circular room that she was now standing in. In the middle of the room, standing on a raised platform was a dark man with golden eyes holding a large sword, he looked at her and raised his eyebrow.
“Thor is in the palace” He told her.
“I know” She answered walking slowly around the room heading towards the exit.
“But what you truly seek is still on Earth” He told her gravely “You left him behind”
“Thank you” She snapped walking angrily out the door and stopping immediately.
She stood on a bridge but it wasn’t a normal bridge, it was made of glass and there were no railing or sides. It was high in the air over water and it was miles long leading to the land that she had only heard about before. She had been expecting a large castle with rolling green hills dotted with small cottage homes around it but that wasn’t at all what was awaiting her. The palace was by far the biggest building in the town and it was the longest however all the homes even down to the smallest, most humble settings were tall buildings that looked like muggle skyscrapers. She let out a breath that she hadn’t realized that she had been holding and cautiously took a step forward followed by another then another. She walked as quickly as she dared and made sure that she stayed in the middle of the bridge, coming no-where near the edge to even look at the water. Because of their connection she could feel where he was and that she was getting closer to him, she assumed that he was in the castle doing whatever it was that amused him and she wondered if he could feel her. She had read that he would indeed be able to feel her presence when he concentrated on it but she assumed that he would have no reason to try because he probably thought that she was happily living with his brother.
After walking for what may have actually been an hour she entered the town. There were people everywhere and though she knew that they could tell she was an immortal (her glowing skin gave it away) they knew that she was not from there. She was wearing a pair of tight black jeans, green sweater and a long black jacket and her hair was pulled back in to a high pony tail. The women that were walking around her all wore dresses made of a light material in light feminine colors and even the female guards wore tight black leggings with long shirts that could pass for a dress and their hair though pulled back made them look beautiful and feminine.
“Excuse me, miss” A man said “Where are you going?”
“I am here to see Thor” She answered.
“Is he expecting you?” He asked.
“No, he isn’t” She snapped “Let me in”
“We do not just allow people to go in and see the king” He scoffed.
“I am his...” She paused “I am seeing his brother”
“Loki?” The man sneered and then looked at her again nodding with a grin on his face “Ah...the witch. Come with me”
She followed the man through the castle hallways, the floors were marble and shiny and when the women in the place walked past her their shoes made clicking noises. She felt extremely out of place but refused to let her nerves show, now that her anger was gone she could see why Harry had thought that this idea was such a bad one. She worried about Lidia and she missed Loki even though in her heart she knew that she missed the man he had once been. The thought of how they used to fight and then make up, their cooking lessons and the time she tried to teach him how to use a muggle DVD player and he somehow set the thing on fire. He had been so worried that she would be mad that he tried to hide it by throwing a sheet over the burned remains and it seemed that it was still too hot because that too went up in flames. Her entire house had nearly gone up in flames but she couldn’t help but laugh her arse off, hugged him, kissed him and then helped him clean up the mess with no more accident. A clearing throat made her look up and the man she had been following stood outside two double doors and was motioning for her to come closer.
“Thor is in here” He pointed at the door
“Thank you” She told him.
“His wife is busy elsewhere” He continued with a sneer that she now recognized as one someone would give a prostitute and she glared at him “Have a good visit”
“Thank you” She said again this time with no friendliness.
She stood outside the door for five minutes contemplating turning around and running away, back to her home and to Loki. But then again she reminded herself of the coldness that lived in that house, it wasn’t a home to her it was just a building that she slept in. She raised her hand and knocked she heard movement on the other side of the door and then heard his familiar voice call out that it was alright to enter. She walked in and smiled at him, his eyes widened in shock then he was off the chair he had been lounging on and walking towards her. He pulled her in to his arms, tightening them almost painfully and yet she didn’t feel pain, she felt safe and loved and suddenly she found herself in tears clinging to him as if he were a lifeline.
“Hermione” He breathed, he had a face full of her curly hair and even without the connection that always had him in a constant state of arousal with her on his mind, he would have been turned on by the scent of roses that clung to her hair and body “What happened?”
Over the next few hours Hermione told him about everything that had been going on. He listened the way no one else ever would and when she was done crying and talking he held her in his arms while she just stared off in to space. Thor had no clue how he was expected to make things better and was more than a little curious as to why she had chosen to come to him of all people. When he was sure that she was calm enough to just be there he smiled at her.
“Come with me” He told her “I can’t help you right now with your problems but I can show you Asguard at sunset which is pretty amazing and then we can have dinner and search for a bedroom for you and after having many drinks you can go to bed and in the morning everything will look a little clearer”
“Thank you” She said standing with him and letting him lead her away.
He brought her all the way to the very top of the palace and they sat on the roof after much assurance that he wouldn’t let her fall. The sunset was the most beautiful that she had ever seen and as she watched it and Thor’s face that was lit in wonder and love she understood why he fought so hard to be the king here. She leaned her head against his shoulder and smiled happily, this was the first time in almost a year and a half that she had truly smiled from happiness and not just because it was what was expected of her.
~~((@))~~
It was around seven that night that Ginny brought Lidia home. She told Loki that the little girl had been fed and bathed as she had fallen in a rather large mud puddle and had to take a bath. Loki wasn’t very good on talking with people that were Hermione’s friends and was once again cursing the fact that she was not here. He forced a smile out for the sake of the red-haired woman and he thanked her, made sure that his daughter hadn’t been too much trouble and then waited for her to leave.
“Well” She said “Goodbye, I guess”
“Did Hermione tell you when she would be home?” He asked her when she stood there too long.
“N-no” She stuttered.
“Okay” He said nodding mentally filing away the stutter for a time when it proved necessary to throw back in her face. With that last statement Ginny left the house and went to her own.
Loki spent the evening reading with Lidia and at nine he finally sent her to bed. He read alone for a while and when Hermione still hadn’t come home he dragged himself to bed knowing that she would be home in the morning and then he could get some answers. He didn’t like the way he was treating her but he didn’t know how not to be jealous of her dreams about his brother. In his mind he had always come in second best to his brother and it felt like it was happening again, he needed therapy badly and even Luna agreed with that. Luna...she was another thing altogether, she kept his secrets and his fears and never once betrayed him, he wanted his life with Hermione to be like that but he had no clue how to go about that. He sighed as he laid down, tomorrow...he would try again tomorrow.
