Chapter 2: The Park
“Mum, Can we go to the park?” Al asked, holding a small toy quaffle. He was wearing a pair of ratty jeans and a grass stained T-shirt with a cartoon dog on the front. She had been sitting on the couch knitting a new sweater for James since his last one got mysteriously destroyed by a neighborhood dog the she didn’t think existed. It reminded her too much of Ron’s sweaters that their mother still made for them. She looked up work and laughed at his outfit, but let it pass. Lily was standing by her brother with the biggest pair of “Please” eyes Ginny had ever seen. Her daughter was more sensibly dressed in a pair of white capris and a blue tank top.
“Alright; only if James goes with you, Remember What Dad said about staying together.” Al rolled his eyes and went to get his brother. There was a lot of commotion up stairs before they came down, James stomping and grumbling all the way. He was in black jeans and Tee, which was not smart for the hot day he was heading for, with a handheld and ear buds in. Ginny got up and stopped him. He pulled the buds out with a sigh. He was about to complain, something about babysitting, but she stopped him before he got on a roll.
“I want you to keep those out; you need to keep an eye on your brother and sister. I trust you to keep them safe while you’re out. Please, for me.” She was trying to get across to him, but she could see it just wasn’t working. Harry was going to need to have a long talk with that boy. He just rolled his eyes and left mumbling an agreement as he walked out the door; she could see him putting the buds back in before he even got out of the yard.
“He is going to get it when his father gets home” She muttered to herself as she closed the door and tried to find something else to do. She had been anxious all day, she couldn’t explain it, and something just felt wrong. She thought about going to the park with them, but she didn’t want to smother them and it was only a block away. Close enough that she could call them in for dinner without leaving the yard. She told herself she was worrying for nothing and went about tidying the living room.
Al and Lily ran ahead of James who was barely watching where he was going let alone watching them. As they got nearer to the little park Lily started to feel a bit anxious. She didn’t know why they had done this a million times before; go to the park play ball for a bit swing on the swing set, play tag, and then go home. She shook it off and ran a little faster.
“No big deal, why is mom so wound up about” thought Albus as he raced Lily to the gate. As they passed thru Al only a tiny bit ahead he thought he had seen someone out of the corner of his eye, but when he looked there was no one there. He just shrugged and tossed the ball to Lily and they pretended to be on brooms playing an epic game of quiditch.
They reached the park and the younger siblings began their game as James found a bench and continued his. Just to appease his mom he took out one ear bud so that he could only just hear the brats over his music. He actually didn’t mind the fresh air but he just wished he could come and go when he wanted instead of having to be with someone. It had been a week since their talking with dad about the weirdo woman and how they should stick together to be safe. But James felt that if that creepy woman had anything in mind she would have done it by now. He gave a long sigh stretched out on the bench, before too long he cut off the game and closed his eye, not meaning to fall asleep, but sleep took him before he had a say.
Al and Lily were on the swings, each daring the other to go higher and higher. After Lily swung so high that she could see over the top bar she said she was scared and wanted to stop; Al was more than happy to indulge his little sister. They just sat on the swings for a bit, Lily looked lost in thought. Al tried to pick up the mood a bit.
“So who gets James’s room while he’s at school?” Al said with a hint of mischief, trying to offer her a challenge. But she just looked shocked, a little hurt in her beautiful green eyes.
“I didn’t know someone was gonna take it, we always sleep in the same room, and he’s not gonna be gone that long” she was really upset.
“Wow, Lily, I was just kidding. I was trying to cheer you up, Sorry. We don’t have to split up” He reached out for her hand, and they just sat there swinging while still holding hand. He had been thinking about the rooms; he and Lily had always shared a room, he liked it, Lily was his best friend and they were so close in age they felt like twins. But their parents had asked Al when he wanted his own room, they had a spare that they said would go to one of them when they felt ready, but Al didn’t think he would ever be ready to leave Lily; even if it was only by a few feet. He knew she felt the same and felt bad for bringing it up.
Lily looked over to the bench and saw James asleep and gave a “harrumph” She stood up and put her hands on her hips. It her capris and tank top she looked exactly like a photo of their mum when she was younger. Al laughed and told her what he thought and they both dissolved into laughter. Lily started trying to imitate their mother but all she could do was laugh and they fell into more bouts of giggles.
“Well I’m gonna go wake him up, we should go soon. With mum and dad freaking out this week we shouldn’t be gone too long” Lily said, tossing her hair over her shoulder. He didn’t want to go but he knew she was right, He watched her stomp off and looked around for something quick to do, waking James was no easy task but he wanted to do one more thing, but be within shouting distance for when he finally arose. He did a quick look and thought he saw something shinning not too far away. If it was something cool he thought Lily might like it;
He got up to examine whatever it was. It was a little farther than he cared for but as he turned back he could still see Lily, she had almost made it to James when Al started to feel really sleepy really fast. He Felt like he was going to faint; Lily and James looked like they were getting farther away. Then he realized that they were getting farther away! Someone big was carrying him, he tried to stay awake he tried to call for help, but it was useless. It had to be a spell; he had enough time to see the face of his capture before he completely lost consciousness. It was a frighteningly gruff man with a long scar on his right cheek, scruffy beard and a square jaw. As Albus blacked out he could hear Lily screaming his name, the sound echoed thru his mind and haunted his dreams.
Sasha was waiting in a corner of the little park around a bit of shrubbery. It was talking longer than she cared for to get the child to the meeting point. Once she had used a deep sleeping spell on the older boy, she had watched as the little girl and the new Dark Lord sat and talked on the swing set she was surer than ever that the younger boy was the one.
She had planned for this over a number of days before setting things into motion. She had placed herself near the entrance to be able to watch the oldest child; she followed him and cast a sleeping spell on him. As he closed his eye she cast a stronger spell to keep him asleep till they were done. All they had to do was wait for the children to come to the park, which she had noticed they did frequently. She was ecstatic that they only had to wait a few hours; thing were playing out perfectly for her, she was absolutely giddy.
She had planted Gregory, who was best fit for the job, at the far end of the park. He was to wait for her signal before making his way toward the boy if they could get him along. She had many things planned out but they separated on their own, the girl was going to her older brother and the Dark child was moving away. Sasha was amazed; he was walking right toward Gregory. It couldn’t have worked better, she gave the silent signal and he was on the move. Sasha then went to their rendezvous point at the other end of the park. After a moment or two she heard the girl scream and felt the plan might fail, but Gregory ran around the corner with the boy in hand and asleep. She placed a hand on his forehead and saw that handsome youth again.
“This is the one; we must hurry before anything goes wrong” Sasha had fire in her eyes as she waved her wand to remove the sleep spell from the older Potter. Then they turned on their heels and apperated away; leaving the groggy boy with his sobbing sister.
