A/N~ I wrote this a long time ago, as I am sure you can tell. But it was too good for me to not finish, so here is the next installment… More to come.
Staar – Here is more, it will build up.
Djaddict – Yes, he doesn’t like it, but he is more patient than most give him credit for. But patience should not be mistaken for acceptance. Yes, you will see much more later, for now the stage is being set.

Chapter 2.It was just before 10 pm Friday evening. A new applicant had arrived, one that wasn’t invited, not that it mattered to her. She knew she was qualified for the job, but wondered if Minerva McGonagall would grant the interview. She knew Dumbledore would recognize her, but she wasn’t sure if McGonagall would after all they hadn’t seen each other since she left Hogwart’s.
She pulled a small, quiet owl from her coat and attached a note and let it fly. She leaned on the dark green light pole on the street. The street sign read “Grimmauld Place”. She knew their headquarters had to be here, where else would it be given her information. If she knew Dumbledore he would have hidden the location.
She had also known the instant that Albus Dumbledore called the Order back into existence. That moment had been her turning point, her healing moment. Now all she had to do was prove she was back and sane enough to carry on. But was she?
She still had the nightmares. The intensity was gone though, leaving only a dull ache in her mind. Her reality was now far worse than where she had left it, almost 17 years ago.
The little owl flew silently down to land on her shoulder, a bit of parchment in its beak. The lady was tall for her sex, towering over most at six feet tall. Her hair was a dark gold, eyes that shone a sad blue, one of which had a large diagonal scar across it. The thin woman took the bit of parchment, and read:
The headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix may be found at number 12 Grimmauld Place, London After she read the note, she put her wand to it and it went up in a puff of smoke. She walked over to the houses and saw number 11 and number 13. She re-read the note in her head and when she got to the part that read “number 12” a black battered door started to appear. It expanded as if it was squeezing out from between the two neighboring houses. She took hold of the silver knocker with the shape of a twisted serpent, knocked three times and took a step back. The door opened slowly and as she stood there, the sight of a mirror image of James Potter greeted her. “It can’t be.” She thought to herself. She had heard the news not to long ago, but here he was standing in front of her, his hair all unkempt and those glasses.“Hi, I’m Harry. Professor McGonagall will meet with you in the kitchen” He saidShe was startled for a second, she knew Lily and James had a son, but seeing him in reality brought back so many memories…..20 years earlier “Hagrid, where are you going with all those bandages?” asked a young girl with long thick red hair.
“Me friend ‘as been ‘urt. She tripped and broke ‘er ‘oof.” said Hagrid urgently.
“Can we go with you, Hagrid? We can help.” Alimira asked excitedly
“O all right, but yer not miss’n nufing impor’ant are yeh?” He asked them both
“Nope, no classes today, everyone went to Hogsmeade today.” They said in unison.
“Foller me then.” he said.
The two girls followed excitedly after the gamekeeper into the woods. They came to a small clearing and both girls gasped in awe. “Is that a unicorn?” the red head asked. “Yep, her name is just like yers,” he said smiling at them both. “Can ye get me flask from me bag, She is Th’rsty.” The red haired girl grabbed the flask and poured some in Alimira’s cupped hands. The water was cool as Alimira brought her hands just under the nose of the unicorn for her to drink. Hagrid finished bandaging the injured leg, while Lily stroked the unicorn’s pearl white nose. Alimira admired her friend’s kindness and gentleness, she knew of no other with such a heart.
She watched as her best friend was able to bring peace to this beautiful beast; her friend looked up with a gigantic smile. Alimira noted how her friends emerald eyes sparkled bright.
Present
The same eye were staring at her now, his mouth moving, as she pulled out of her daze she caught the end of the sentence.
“Ms Griffith, You ok?” he asked peering at her from the side.
“Yes, sorry… lost in my own thoughts.” She said quietly. “How did you know my name?”
“Professor McGonagall told me.” He said “Did she tell you anything else about me?” she asked timidly “She doesn’t tell me much more than they think I ought to know,” he said curtly. “Follow me, she is in the kitchen.” They traveled to dark entranceway that led to a small set of stairs. An orange glow was coming from below. “Professor McGonagall will be down there. I am not allowed as I am still a student, so I will see you when you leave, I suppose.” he said gloomily. She timidly took one step at a time, straining to catch a glimpse of her old professor first. When her foot hit the floor she looked around and saw no one in the room, but on a chair at the end of the table was a tabby cat. “Professor.” Alimira said nodding to the cat. In one moment the cat was jumping from the chair, and in the next, Professor McGonagall was standing there looking down her nose, thru her glasses, at Alimira. “Good, I see ye have not forgotten.” She said; her Scottish burr more accentuated than usual. She indicated toward another chair for Alimira. Alimira lowered herself into the chair and said: “You haven’t changed a bit Professor.” “Minerva, if you please. You are no longer a student,” she commented trying to reign in her accent “It’s good to see you. We all thought there was no hope, like the poor Longbottom’s.” “There is always hope Minerva, You just have to look in obvious places. What got me in to madness is exactly what brought me out.” Alimira stated McGonagall looked horrified for a moment. “They don’t torture you in the hospital!” she cried. “That’s not what I meant, the strength of loyalty is what got me where I was and where I am. I never would have betrayed the Order even if it had meant my life. I felt the Order revive, and I knew that I had to fight to become a part of it once again.” She said slowly. “The madness is not really something anyone can help you with, you have to fight inside your head. The Longbottom’s are there, what you see is just their physical shell reacting to the world around them. Their minds are in constant torture. That’s what people don’t understand. The Cruciatus curse doesn’t drive you insane, and then you live the simple life of a child. That’s what good witches and wizards want to believe, they couldn’t handle the painful truth behind the curse. But I have been there. You relive the pain constantly. I had Seventeen years of pain, and I didn’t fight it, at least not until that spring of hope opened inside me. Then I knew I had a reason to fight and live.” Professor McGonagall’s usually masked emotions showed for once. “I had no idea…” she whispered. “So am I qualified?” Alimira asked hesitantly. “More than the rest of the applicants, but the final decision is up to the Headmaster…” “…I agree to the appointment of Ms. Griffith to the position.” Said a voice coming down the stairs, interrupting the pair. Alimira shot out of her chair and whirled around to be greeted with the site of Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts. A tall, thin man, whose silver hair and beard flowed down his robes, was smiling down with such compassion shining in his blue eyes. She barreled toward him and wrapped him in a large bear hug and started sobbing uncontrollably.
Professor McGonagall stood there stunned witnessing a scene she thought she would never see.
Alimira tried to talk through her sobs “…Th-thank you… for ... *sob*… res-s-cuing…*sniff*....me…” Alimira was now hugging the man who had saved her from her torture. She had been kidnapped outside of the Hog’s head by Walden Macnair, prior death eater and executioner for the Ministry of Magic, and taken to a dark old house on a hill. Voldemort’s lackey Barty Crouch Jr. interrogated her and threatened her very life, when she didn’t give up any information on the whereabouts of Lily and James Potter. She didn’t know where they were and refused to give information on the Order. Crouch Jr. had begun torture regimen of the Imperius curse and the Cruciatus curse over the period of a few days.
This was his fun, sadistic as he was, and a method of torturing that was a slow and painful path towards insanity. She had remained silent, fighting the Imperius curse and bearing the Cruciatus. By the time Dumbledore had arrived, everyone had fled after Voldemort’s disappearance. Everyone except, that is, Crouch Jr., who stood over her body holding the curse as her body twisted in pain, and screams pierced the walls. Crouch Jr. did not leave until a split second after Dumbledore’s arrival, then he did with just a sickening crack. All that was left was Alimira. Her mind seemingly gone and her body awash with pain. He had carried her that night taking her to St. Mungo’s. She was given a bed just across from Frank Longbottom and his wife.
Dumbledore now stood there comforting her for a moment and just letting her sob. When the sobbing subsided, she pulled away and apologized for messing up his robes.“This old thing,” he said smiling kindly, “it needed a good washing.”“I am very grateful, Headmaster, for everything.” Alimira said, gathering her composure.“Do you really want to do this, Alimira?’ he asked patiently.“It’s what I have to give to the Order. I need to give back.” She said.“How is he?” she asked tentatively, referring to Harry, “Is he like her? Or his father?”“Harry is himself, and both. He has his father’s sense of adventure, his mother’s heart and a brilliance all of his own.” The headmaster stated with admiration.“He looks so much like James’s I thought I was back in my insanity for a brief moment, where I couldn’t determine what was real and what was not, and then I saw his eyes. Only Lily had those eyes.” Alimira said.“Yes, this is true,” He sighed sadly, “Well I must be going now. I’ll see you soon, Alimira. You are welcome to come to Hogwarts before start of term if you like. We actually have something planned for Harry if you think you would like to participate.” He said with his eyes twinkling beneath his spectacles.“Well looks like you have the job, Professor Griffith.” McGonagall stated smiling after Dumbledore made his exit as quietly as his entrance.Alimira was just in awe, she never expected to see the Headmaster himself, and she didn’t dare hope.“How did he know?” She asked.“How does he know anything?” McGonagall stated, “That man knows everything, even when it is supposed to be a secret. Either way, I will send an owl with all your requirements soon. We will be seeing you before the start of term I assume?”“Of course. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” She said.“Harry will show you out, I have other business in London to tend to.” and with that Professor McGonagall disaparated with a pop.Alimira climbed up the stairs and started searching for Harry. She finally found him sitting in the drawing room reading a copy of Quidditch Match.“Hello Harry.” Alimira called, watching him from the doorway, not wanting to startle him.Harry turned around, to see the woman he let in a bit ago watching him. She was of the strange sort, her scared eye gave her the appearance of cruelty, but the truth beneath betrayed the gentleness.“So will I be seeing you at Hogwarts this year?” he asked“Yes you will, I will be the new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher this year and hopefully more.” She said.“That will rub Snape the wrong way.” he mumbled not intending her to hear, but she did.“Se-Severus Snape?” she asked warily.“Yeah, he has wanted that job for years. Personally I am not sure I could handle two classes with him.” said Harry, feeling bold in front of this new teacher. She wouldn’t hold it against him that he didn’t like Snape. Her reaction to his name said so. But who was this woman. There was something about her that pricked him.“He teaches at Hogwart’s?” she asked“Yep.” he said slightly surprised that she didn’t know.“Professor McGonagall failed to mention that to me. One would think that would be important considering…” she trailed off.“Oh well, he has been busy for the Order lately so they haven’t seen him much at the meetings.” Harry stated. Her hand went to her throat and she gasped. “He is in the Order? Doesn’t the Headmaster know what he is?”“Are you concerned that he was a Deatheater?” she nodded, “well, he works for Dumbledore. Dumbledore trusts him, though I have yet to hear why. I don’t like him, personally, and he makes it quite clear he doesn’t like me. I guess he just hates me because, he hated my father.” Harry explained. Her jaw dropped at this news. She walked over to the nearest chair and sat down, trying to process all of this. She knew Severus was never really bad, but then that day she had seen his face with a lot of the other Deatheaters.“Um… not to be rude, Professor, but why don’t you know most of this already?” Harry asked“Well I know I should tell you of all people, but then the mystery of the new teacher would be lost, I will tell you when I tell the rest of my students.” she said with a smile.“Ok, I guess so,” Harry replied getting up. “Would you like any tea or something or are you ready to go now?”“I am ready now, thank you.” she said. They walked quietly to the hallway and down the corridor, Harry opened the door and then the mysterious new teacher was gone.~TBC - Please rate and review. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
