At dinner, Harry was surprised to see Snape was missing from the head table. What was more surprising was the fact that McGonegall and the Headmaster also were missing. He spent the rest of supper, and the rest of the evening coming up with reasons why they were all missing at supper. His friends joined in with some off the wall ideas.
The following morning, he received an answer by way of 2 owls. He quickly took the letters and fed the owls a treat. He opened the letter from Dumbledore first. When he read the second letter, he gasped. “Bloody hell.” He looked up to see his friends looking at him. He handed the note to Hermione. “From the Ministry.”
“Oh my.” Hermione read the letter and handed it back to the now pale boy. “This is both good and bad news. Are you ok Harry?”
“I need some air!” He grabbed his things and sprang up and out the doors.
Severus was just leaving the Great Hall when he noticed Harry rushing out. When the boy's friends just shrugged at him, he followed after him. He found him in a side courtyard. “Harry, what's wrong?” He took the letter Harry handed him. “From the Ministry?” He read it and gasped. “This is not good.”
“I know. Now he will know I will be with you. That puts you in more danger.” Harry looked up at him as he sat down. “How can we hide from him?” He jumped as the man laughed. “Wow, never heard you laugh before.”
Severus chuckled. “Harry, I'm not worried about him. I will be at the top of his list with you anyway for not answering a summons. Plus, I have a home he doesn't know about. The death eaters know about Spinner's End but that has been cleaned out and gutted since I moved out. My current home is hidden just like Grimmauld. Only Draco knows about it.” He leaned in close and whispered. “Don't tell anyone I laughed.”
Harry nodded. “I promise not to tell.” He smiled at the man. “I guess we should head up to Dumbledore's office now?” When the man nodded, he stood up. “Why do I feel like I'm not going to like this?”
Severus smirked. “Because you won't.” He stood up and led Harry to the Headmaster's office. “We now have a lot to talk about.”
After lunch, Harry met up with Ron, Hermione, Draco, Blaise, and Pansy. “Ok guys, we have some work to do. Pansy and Blaise, you will be staying with Draco over the holidays. Dobby said you can trust Tanny and Eve. Draco, does your mom have everything ready?”
“Of course. She can't wait to have them stay over.” Draco smirked at him. “She also said that you will have to come over for Christmas.”
“I will be staying with Severus so I will discuss it with him.” Harry smirked at them. “We will be stopping by my aunt's on the way to his home. Now, on to the news.” He sighed and looked up at them. “The crest we have is a combination of the Prince family line and Merlin's. It is a mark of seconds. A blood pact was done by a member of Merlin's line with a member of the Prince line. The Prince line plays second to the Merlin line if needed.”
“Wow, good thing you got rid of his mark. The dark lord would have his head for that.” Draco frowned. “He's in more danger now though.”
“Not any more than he would be when he ignored a summons.” Harry smiled. “As the only living member of Merlin's direct line, and of the four founders, I have more power than he does. Voldy would love to have that power. He likes to think he lives by the pureblood traditions like with dueling, but having Severus as a second will only up my power if I had to ever draw from him. In a way, Severus would be more powerful too. Being second to one of Merlin's line will really up his social importance, social standing, as well as his magical powers.”
Hermione frowned. “What do these blood pacts entail? How do they form?”
Blaise smiled at her. “They are made when two people trust each other in every aspect of their lives. If the families agree that the other is worthy of them risking their lives, they draw up a pact. It was used mainly during the medieval era when duels were big. They also help to protect future generations.”
“Wow, that's good.” Hermione smiled at him. “Snape has always been there for Harry and has saved our hides a few times. I know he will continue, especially since they are related.”
Ron nodded. “They are not to be taken lightly. I may not agree with it but I will be civil to him. He has protected us many times and I can respect that. I owe him more than that.”
“Thanks Ron.” Harry smiled at his friend. “I know he will appreciate hearing that. But now, we need to get going and get our stuff ready. We have a week before heading home.” They nodded and quickly split up.
A week later, they spent a nervous train ride going over their plan to get Blaise and Pansy out of their homes. Hermione turned to Harry. “That reminds me. How will Snape get you out of the station with death eaters there? I'm sure some will be there to get their kids.”
Harry smirked at her. “Easy. He will be polyjuiced as someone I know from before Hogwarts. He said I will know it's him.” He shrugged as they pulled into the station. Looking out the window, he laughed. “Yep, he's here.” He nodded to a far wall at an older looking gentleman wearing a black coat and a derby hat. “That's him. Severus knows him and the man is a squib.”
“Wow, talk about a disguise.” Draco laughed as they exited the compartment. “I will see you guys later. I will floo you to let you know they made it safe and sound.”
Harry nodded and the Slytherins left, followed shortly by the rest of the group. He stopped to briefly greet the Grangers and the Weasleys before heading for Severus. “Hello.” He followed the man out through the barrier and to an empty alley.
Severus smirked at him. “Glad you recognized me. He said you probably would. Tell me how that is. I am going to apperate you to the back yard.”
Harry nodded and let the man apperate them as the potion wore off. As they walked around to the front, he smiled at the man. “I knew it was you because he hates trains and never goes to the station. He told me that once when I stayed behind after school to ask him about some work.”
Severus nodded and knocked on the door. When Petunia opened the door, he raised his wand and motioned her to let them in. “Hello Tuney.” He looked at Harry. “Go get anything of yours.”
Petunia glared at him. “What are you doing here? Why did he come home?”
“I am now his legal guardian. He is leaving here for good.” When she opened her mouth to respond, he shook his head. “It turns out that we are distantly related and Lily was the first magical one in a hundred years. All you others are squibs.”
Harry grinned as he rejoined them. “I'm ready Severus.” He turned to his aunt. “I hope Dudley causes you all kinds of grief. The kind you gave me. I normally wouldn't but after learning a few things, that's all I want for you. My lawyer will be in touch about returning all money that was to be used for my care, allowance, and schooling. Since I never saw any of it, I will be asking for it to be returned with interest. I do have all the proof I need to press charges for neglect as well.” He smirked, stepped back, took Severus's arm, and waved goodbye before they apperated away.
“Ava!” Snape smiled when the elf appeared. “Please take Harry's things to his room. We will be going to Malfoy Manor for the evening.” When the elf nodded and popped out with Harry's things, he turned to Harry. “I will give you a tour later if we have time.” He led him into the floo. “Malfoy Manor!” He pulled Harry into the fireplace and they were whisked off. They exited the fireplace to see a weeping Pansy. “What happened?”
Draco sighed as the man checked the girl for any wounds. “Her dad wanted to take her to him tonight. She said no. She said she wasn't hurt but her mum stepped in the way of her dad's attack.” He looked over at his friend. “Mrs. Parkinson killed him in self defense when he refused to stop. Mum called the aurors.”
Narcissa walked into the room with Tonks. “The aurors are there now. Pansy, you can return to get your things. Tonks said she will go with you. And anyone else you want to go.”
Pansy nodded and let Draco help her up. “Could you come with me sir? And Harry.” When they nodded, she turned back to Tonks. “Will mum be okay?”
“She will be fine. She was taken to St. Mungo's and there will be no charges filed because it was self defense.” Tonks smiled at her. “Now, why don't we go get whatever you need and get you settled in here.” The girl nodded and the 4 of them headed for the floo. Once she was settled in at Malfoy Manor, Blaise arrived. His elf settled his stuff in his room and Harry followed Severus out.
As the days passed, Harry got to know Severus more, as well as the Slytherins. Hermione was staying with her parents so they amped up the security wards around their home. She came to stay at Severus's home with Harry from Christmas until New Year's. On Christmas Eve, they all gathered at Malfoy Manor to open their gifts to each other.
Severus smirked as they all received their gifts from him. “Go ahead.”
Harry watched as they opened theirs and gasped. His package was bigger and appeared heavier. “What?”
“A book on my favorite subject!” They all laughed when they answered as one. Hermione looked at him. “What did you get?”
Harry quickly unwrapped his and stared. “Wow.” He pulled out a green marble bowl with a silver lining. “Is this what I think it is?” It appeared to have some smoky liquid in it.
“It is.” Severus smiled as the boy set it down. “There are memories in there of your parents from myself, the professors, and the order.” He was shocked by Harry hurling himself at him and hugging him. He chuckled. “You are welcome Harry.”
“Severus, we have a gift for you.” Draco motioned to himself and the other 2 Slytherins. He then handed him a small box.
Severus opened the box and smiled. He pulled out one of the silver cuff-links and smirked. “How very Slytherin.” There were two emerald eyed snakes on each cuff-link, intertwined to look like his initials. “Thank you.”
Harry smirked and handed him a small red and green wrapped box. “From myself and Hermione. Ron and Ginny helped with the idea.”
Severus unwrapped the box and opened it. He frowned when he pulled out a pouch and a box of tubes. “I assume there is something special about these?”
Hermione nodded. “Harry said you didn't have anything to put your emergency potions in. These are both charmed to be able to shrink, as well as unbreakable. We figured you could use them while traveling or for every day use.”
“An excellent idea. Thank you.” Severus smiled at them. They all turned to look at Narcissa as she stood up and clapped her hands. “Lunch is ready I presume?” When she nodded, the others quickly got up and followed her out. Seeing her walk in the dining room oddly, he looked up. He smirked and did the same as he entered. Hermione and Pansy followed suit after following his glance. They smirked as Harry and Draco entered while talking. The boys froze when they couldn't proceed.
Harry tried to pull himself out of the doorway. “I can't move.”
Draco groaned when everyone looked above their heads. “Mother!” He flushed when Harry looked at him.
Narcissa smiled as she sat down. “I didn't do anything. The elves did the decorating this year. Draco, you know how to get out of it.”
Harry blushed when Draco turned to him. “Go ahead.”
Draco grinned. “If you say so.” He cupped Harry's face and drew him into a kiss, groaning when Harry copied him and pulled him closer. They broke apart when they ran out of air.
“Damn that was hot!” Pansy fanned herself as the two boys joined them at the table. “Looks like there may be some competition for Hogwarts hottest.”
Blaise frowned at her. “What do you mean? I thought Draco was at the top. Harry was right below him last I heard.”
Hermione laughed. “Neither of them have been at the top yet.” She smirked at their shocked faces. “The person at the top is someone none of you ever thought would be up there.”
“If it's neither of us then who is at the top? And how do you know this?” Draco frowned at the two girls. Laughter from his mother had him turning to her. “What?”
Narcissa smiled at him. “Pansy caught me up on the list. Every girl years 4 and up knows of the list. The person at the top is every girl's wet dream. The one their mothers usually warn them about.”
The boys paled as they listened to her. Blaise looked at her before turning to the other two girls. “So who is at the top?”
The girls smirked and looked at each other before nodding and answering in unison. “Snape.”
Severus choked on his food and stared at them in shock. “What? What in Hades are you talking about?”
Narcissa laughed. “Many women are brought up to avoid the tall, dark, and mysterious. Therefore, they all want that. The bad boy image and mysterious background. I bet that many of the girls have some very interesting dreams about you.”
“And the voice and his hands.” Hermione blushed when they all looked at her. “I've heard some older girls talking about what could be done with them.”
Draco laughed as the man turned red and dropped his head into his hands. “Well, we can try to dispel some of the rumors. Tell people you are a real git.”
“Won't work. People have tried. You know how people are.” Blaise shrugged. “I say to use it to your advantage. Girls will be looking at him and will avoid you and Harry. Until they catch you at it.”
Narcissa watched the interactions and smirked. She witnessed something surprising. When Severus caught her eye, she winked and grinned when he paled. “Well, now that we got that out of the way, on to other news. Are any of you planning on doing some career advancement during your last term?” She heard them all groan when Hermione nodded. “What do you want to do Hermione?”
“Well, I thought about Charms, DADA, and Potions.” She blushed as the others groaned again. “I think they can all work together well enough to be used to advance some potions and spells.”
Severus nodded. “That is something I myself have been working on in my spare time. I will talk to Albus about having you work with me.” He held a hand up at her look. “First you have to take your NEWTS so we can arrange for you to do that next week.” He smiled. “I usually don't have an apprentice because of the dark lord but now I am able to. It will be interesting having another opinion.”
“Thank you sir!” Hermione beamed at his nod and gasped. “That reminds me!” She turned to Narcissa. “My mum was wondering if you would like some help with your muggle shopping.”
Narcissa smiled as the boys groaned. “I would like that. I will owl her and arrange a time.” She checked the time. “Now, I am going to relax in my study. You all have a nice evening!” She exited out while avoiding the mistletoe.
The others followed suit and quickly headed their separate ways. On New Year's Eve, everyone was back at Malfoy Manor. Hermione brought her parents and the Weasleys arrived with some of the order members. Narcissa put on a slow song and smiled as Mr. Granger walked up to her. “May I have this dance Narcissa?”
“Of course!” She let him lead her out onto the dance floor. They began to talk as they waltzed around the floor. She laughed as others joined them. The students stood back as their parents and other adults danced.
“Wow.” Hermione watched as her mom danced with Severus. She noticed how smoothly he led her mom. “I love watching my parents dance. Neville, want to dance next?”
“Sure!” When the song stopped, he led her out onto the dance floor with other students. He grinned as he heard the pace pick up. “Just like in fourth year.” He was rewarded with her laughing.
Narcissa nudged Mrs. Granger. “Apparently your daughter has quite a talent. She dances beautifully.” She looked around the room and smirked. “Seems she has drawn some attention too.”
Jean Granger smiled. “Thank you. She started ballroom dance lessons after fourth year.” She shook her head. “She picked it up like she had been doing it her whole life.”
Severus sighed and headed over to the two women. “Mrs. Granger, might I have a word with you and your husband? Nothing bad but something came up over Christmas and I would like to discuss it with the two of you.” She nodded and quickly waved her husband over. “Follow me.” He led them out of the room and to a study nearby.
Shortly after midnight, Hermione couldn't find her parents. “Narcissa, have you seen my parents?”
“Severus was talking to them.” She looked around and smiled. “There they are. Over by the door.” She waved her over to the trio just entering.
Hermione thanked her and headed for her parents. Ron and Harry joined her. “Is everything ok?”
“Never better!” Jean Granger frowned as Ron and Harry laughed lightly.
Harry smiled at her. “That's exactly what Hermione said when I asked her after I got out of the hospital first year.”
“Great minds think alike!” They all laughed when Hermione and her mum answered in unison. After making plans to join Severus and Harry the next day, Hermione and her parents left. The party soon wound down and everyone headed their separate ways.
Severus and Harry were about to leave when Harry froze. “Someone is outside the wards trying to get in.”
“Probably one of my parents.” Blaise frowned. “Will the wards hold?”
“They should.” Severus sighed. “You all stay here. Draco and Narcissa, go see who it is. I will come too but I will stay under Harry's cloak.” He took the cloak the boy handed him. “Let's go.” When they reached the gates, Blaise's father was waiting.
Mr. Zabini sneered at them as he tried to get past the wards again. “How did you change the wards? And where is my son?”
Draco frowned at the man. “I am man of the house now and I changed the wards. I don't bow to you nor your half blood lord. Leave before I summon the aurors. I haven't seen Blaise all holiday season. Maybe he finally had it and ran off with one of your whores.”
The man turned red and punched his fist on the gate. “How dare you say that to me! You know perfectly well where he is! When I find him, he's dead! You tell him that!” The man turned and quickly disapperated.
“That went well!” Narcissa sighed as they headed back in. She motioned Severus away as Blaise and Pansy looked at them. “It was your father Blaise. But don't worry, we won't let him get you. He threatened to kill you but from now on, we will have your back.”
Severus and Harry had just arrived back at Snape's manor when Hermione's patronus appeared. It said only two words. “Being attacked.”
Severus sighed. “Floo Tonks while I go grab my kit.” He took off to his lab as Harry contacted the aurors. When he returned, they apperated to an alley near the Granger house that was set up when she befriended Harry. Tonks and the others soon joined them. He took the cloak Harry handed him again. “We just arrived.”
Tonks nodded. “Harry said that she had been working on warding the house so hopefully they haven't broken through yet.” She turned to Harry as Severus put the invisibility cloak on. “Tell her we are here.”
Harry nodded. “Severus, go ahead and take the back yard. Once I send my message, I will apperate us inside.” He saw the man nod and head off before pulling the hood up. He pulled out his wand and sent the message. “Aura familia.” He then held out his arm. Once they all had hold, he apperated them inside. “Hermione!”
“Harry! Only a few more wards to go!” Hermione had her wand pointed at the front door.
Tonks stepped up next to her. “Go pack what you can quickly.” She turned to her team. “Three take the back, the other two stay with me. Disillusion yourselves and wait for them to come in.” They nodded and quickly took their places.
Bill Granger came up from the basement. “Someone is out back attacking the guys in black. Can't see the person though.”
Harry grinned. “That would be Severus. You need to get finished packing.”
Bill grinned at him. “Mr. Weasley shrunk stuff for us the other day. Our bags are also spelled for extra room and to be lighter. We just had to pack clothes.” He looked up as Hermione and her mother ran back down the steps.
Tonks turned to them briefly. “Take them to Snape's now!” She pointed her wand at the door as the last ward fell. Harry whisked them off to Snape's right before the door burst open. Spells began to fly. The aurors quickly got the upper hand and five minutes later, the fighting was over. Severus had single handedly knocked out 4 in the backyard and only 2 out of 10 got away. Once the captured death eaters were taken away, Tonks returned with Severus to get statements. They both had cuts and scratches. “Your house is still standing but why didn't the police show up?” Tonks looked at Hermione in surprise.
Hermione grinned. “I had put extra wards around the property, one being a silencing ward for apperating.”
Severus shook his head. “That was excellent thinking Miss Granger.” He froze when she threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek. “What was that for?”
“For saving our house and helping. I saw how you took out the guys outside.” She blushed as she stepped back. “Thank you professor.”
“You are welcome.” He headed over to the bar for some water. “Ava!” When the elf popped in, he smiled. “Please take the Grangers' items to their rooms in the north wing. Hermione will be in the rose room. Her parents will have the blue room.” The elf bowed and popped out with their bags.
Tonks finished getting their statements and headed out. “I will let you know what happens.” they nodded and she apperated out.
Hermione sat down next to Harry. “You guys can go on up to your room.” She smiled as Ava lead her parents out. She sighed as she looked at Harry. “So much for an event free holiday!”
“Luckily you were prepared.” Harry sighed. “We need to find a permanent place to hide them. As well as to let them tell their patients about their temporary leave.”
“They will stay here. Other than Hogwarts, this is the safest place for them right now.” Severus smirked at them. Once we head back to the school, they will have free reign of the manor, other than any locked rooms. They can consider it a vacation until the war is over.”
“I will tell them tomorrow. Thank you!” Hermione got up and hugged him quickly. “I'm going to head to bed now. Goodnight!” She smiled at the elf that popped in. “Lead the way miss!” She smiled at the excited elf as she led her to her room.
Harry smirked at the man as Hermione was led out of the room.
Severus glared at him. “What are you smirking at? Shouldn't you be heading to bed too?”
Harry nodded and headed towards the door. “Just so you know, you may have just become her favorite professor now.” He turned and left, smiling when he heard the man.
“Fantastic.” Severus groaned as he got up. He then locked down the manor for the night before heading to bed himself.
The next morning, Severus opened the envelope that was just delivered. He grinned as he read it. At the sound of someone walking into the room, he looked up. “Good morning Miss Granger.” He handed her a letter. “This just arrived for you.”
She smiled when she saw who it was from. “My test scores!” She opened it and grinned. “I got all O's! This is amazing!” She kissed his cheek and ran off to tell her parents.
He laughed as she ran off. “Crazy woman.” He saw Harry enter with a yawn. “Didn't sleep well?”
“No, I slept fine. I just always feel tired when I have had an event filled night.” He laughed as he saw the letter next to the man. “You sure you want to work with her?”
Severus nodded. “She will be pretty close to a few masteries if her potions and spells work. Plus, her time will be divided up between 3 of us after this year. It may actually help us to win this war.”
Harry nodded. “I think it will. Now, I have a question and I think I know what you will say. I'm going to ask it anyway.” He smiled at the man. “What do you want for your birthday?”
Severus frowned and set down his tea. “Honestly, the only thing I have wanted for a while now is no dark lord. Other than that, I really don't know.”
Harry nodded. “I thought so.” He looked out the window. “Do you think I could go flying for a bit? I don't know what the weather will be like.”
“It looks like it will be a sunny day. You should be fine. Go ahead.” Severus smiled as the boy grabbed some toast and headed out. He looked up as the Grangers walked in. “Good morning. Has Hermione told you the news?” When they nodded, he smiled. “I can take you back to your house to get anything else and to your office if you like. So you can tell them about leaving for a while. I wrote out instructions so you can drive back.”
Jean Granger nodded and took the instructions he gave them. “That would be great Severus. Thank you.” She sighed as she took a bite of her breakfast. “So, what will we do about getting Hermione to the train and picking her up at the end of the year?”
“She will floo to the Weasleys. They will take her to the station. Harry will also be going there.” He smiled as he finished his breakfast. “A couple of the order members will be accompanying them so there is nothing to worry about.”
Bill Granger nodded. “That sounds good. We also want to thank you for letting us stay here. Hermione said that Ava will help us with whatever we need. We appreciate it.”
Severus nodded. “It was nothing. It is one of the safest places other than Hogwarts. Hardly anyone knows about it and even less know where it is.” He smirked as he stood up. “Let me know when you want to go. If you prefer, Ava and another elf can take you. They can stay with you in the cars as well in case any death eaters do try anything.”
Jean smiled. “I think I like that idea. Better than taking you away from getting stuff ready to go back tomorrow.”
Severus nodded. “Just let the elves know then. I will see you when you get back.” They nodded and he left for his office. The next day, they were off to the school. Luckily with no incidents. On the morning of January 9, Severus woke up to find Ava next to his bed. “Ava, what's wrong?”
“Ava is bringing your favorite coffee from Mister and Misses Granger.” She handed him a mug of coffee. “They be sending their birthday wishes.”
“Tell them thank you Ava.” He smiled as she nodded and popped out. “I could get used to this.” He got up and headed for his sitting room. “What in the world?” Sitting on his desk was a box wrapped in silver with a green bow. The tag on it said from the group, in Harry's handwriting. He opened it up and gasped. Inside was a photo album with a picture of him smirking on the cover. He picked up his coffee and sat down in his armchair by the fire. He smiled as he flipped through the pictures. There were pictures of him as a student, with other professors, order members, and the DA. At the back was a picture of him holding a baby Harry with Lily, Remus, and the Weasleys. Opposite that was a picture of him and Harry from Christmas. “Oh Lily, if you could see him now.” He sighed as he placed a hand over the old picture. “Cousin.”
The days passed, and he and Hermione combined their notes and their research progressed nicely. It was put on hold though when Dumbledore roped Severus into helping with the Valentine's Day masquerade dance. Hermione was packing up her notes from the potion they had just made. “Will you be in costume at the ball professor?” She finished closing her bag and looked up at him.
“Unfortunately, Albus has made it mandatory.” He sneered at the thought. “Luckily I knew of something I could work with.”
She smiled. “I won't ask what. I will see you there then. Goodnight Severus.”
“Goodnight Hermione.” He smiled as he watched her leave his lab. On the day of the ball, everyone was focused on getting themselves ready. He sighed as he put his costume on. “I doubt any of them will even recognize what this is.” It was a Saturday so he was glad he didn't have to try teaching when they were all focused on the dance.
Hermione grinned as Harry came down from his dormitory. “Wow, you look just like a Capulet!” She laughed as he swung his cape over his shoulder. “Do I look like Christine?” She spun around slowly.
“Hermione, you look beautiful.” Harry grinned at her. “You will have to beat the guys off with a stick.”
“Aye matey1” Ron joined them dressed as a pirate. “Ye be lookin fine dearie!” They laughed as his fake sword dropped to the floor. He picked it up and grinned. “Let's go!”
When they arrived, they made sure their masks were on and passed a white clad Dumbledore into the Great Hall. They found their friends and began chatting. While the students entered, Severus skulked around the perimeter looking for wayward students. He snuck up behind Minerva and grinned. “Good evening.” He chuckled as she jumped.
“Severus? You startled me!” She laughed as she patted her chest. “That costume really suits you. I assume you are the Phantom?”
“Of course.” He smirked. “Can you think of anything more fitting?”
She shook her head. “I don't think there is.” She looked out over the students and smirked. “Why, you even have a Christine to chase and scare.”
Severus whipped his head around and looked to where she was looking. “I can't scare her. It's easy to figure out who it is. Mr. Weasley and Mr. Malfoy are with her.”
Minerva smiled. “And the other must be Mr. Potter. Who are he and Mr. Malfoy dressed as?” She frowned when he smirked.
“They are dressed as members of Montague and Capulet. Mr. Potter is the Capulet.” He shook his head. “Two feuding families. It fits them actually.” They looked up as Albus joined them and took her off for a dance. He did his rounds, pausing for a few songs here and there. He noticed that Hermione never had the same partner, other than Harry. He was being the protective brother for her.
Hermione smiled when Draco finally held a hand out to Harry. When he looked at her, she nodded. “Go ahead Harry, I'll be fine.” She looked up as a hand was held out to her. Severus was smirking down at her.
“Albus has commandeered Minerva. You are a good dancer. May I?” He smiled when she nodded and let him lead her out to the dance floor. “Are you a big fan of the Phantom?”
“Oh yes! It is my favorite! I have seen it once in the theater and would love to go again.” She smiled up at him. “I always saw a bit of myself in Christine. And the Phantom seems to fit you quite well.”
He nodded and smirked. “It is also one of my favorites. I couldn't resist the perfect opportunity this dance gave me. We are alike yet different and I don't actually need a mask.”
She grinned. “No you don't. Though now it makes me wonder what else you can do that he can do.”
He shook his head. “Maybe someday you will find out.” He stepped back as the song ended and bowed slightly. “Thank you Miss Granger.” He quickly joined the rest of the staff and faded into the shadows again.
Harry poked her with his fake sword. “Having fun?” He held out his hand. “You may not be Juliet but dance with me?”
She laughed. “Of course Harry.” She let him lead her back to the dance floor. “So, what did you get Draco? And what did he get you?”
“He got me some imported german chocolate and a charmed set of wand holsters.” He smirked as he twirled her around. “I got him some muggle treats he has never had.”
“That's great!” She leaned in after looking around. “I got something from an anonymous person. There were no bad spells or anything and Remus checked it for portkeys and such. Just protective spells on it.” She held up her wrist. “It's got charms and the chain can be made into a bracelet or a necklace. Both him and McGonegall checked out the letter. It was written with a dict o quill so we couldn't trace the handwriting either.” She shrugged. “It's for protection so they didn't see the harm.”
“Wow, Looks like you may have a secret admirer.” He led her to a table and they sat down. “What else?” She was blushing.
“Well, I sent a gift to Professor Snape.” She looked around and saw him across the room. “I sent him something because nobody deserves to be alone today.”
He leaned in to hear her better. “What did you get him?”
Hermione grinned. “I got him the complete collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. I remember seeing a couple at the manor and he said he used to have the whole set.” She shrugged. “This collection is in one book though. I also used a dict o quill to write the letter.”
Harry laughed. “I am sure he loved it.” He looked up as their friends joined them. “Looks like the dance is over.”
Severus walked up to them. “Head on back to your dormitories. Make sure you get some sleep. You may need it for the meeting tomorrow.” He smirked as they groaned and headed for the door. He smiled as Hermione waved goodnight to him. He helped the staff take down the decorations and headed to his rooms to check out the book he received that morning. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error. The AFF system includes a rigorous and complex abuse control system in order to prevent improper use of the AFF service, and we hope that its deployment indicates a good-faith effort to eliminate any illegal material on the site in a fair and unbiased manner. This abuse control system is run in accordance with the strict guidelines specified above.
