Chapter 2: Raised in America
America, 1982-1990
Shortly after Lily decided to flee to America, an event occurred the cemented her belief that Britain was no longer safe. Her friends, Frank and Alice Longbottom were captured by four Death Eaters Bellatrix Lestrange, her husband Rodolphus Lestrange, her brother-in-law Rabastan Lestrange, and Barty Crouch Jr. The four Death Eaters tortured Frank and Alice into insanity.
Harry celebrated his second birthday of his life in America. After months of searching with his American friends for an isolated place to survive, and raise the boy, Padfoot (or Sirius Black) found a place in Northern Montana where they could hide.
Nothing too exciting happened until Harry turned 10 except, when a year after settling a couple of Aurors from MACUSA, got trapped in one of Padfoot’s wards. The ward tied up the Aurors until Sirius apparated to the edge of the wards where the Aurors were tied up to interrogate them. They had been investigating the usage of magic in a remote part of Montana where no one had been registered as living. When Sirius untied them they demanded to see his wand permit which he presented along with copies of Moony’s and Lily’s, as well as his animagus license.
While Harry grew up Sirius taught Harry to ride and work on a motorcycle, like his but smaller at first. He also learned to wrestle, box and fight with swords. He also taught Harry to shoot firearms. In 1987 when the Princess Bride came out Harry was 7 he and Padfoot would recreate the sword fight between the Spaniard and the man in black. Harry would learn to swordfight with both hands like Westley, and he would say:
“Hello. My name is Harry Potter. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
This quote would later go on to be used by Harry later in life.
Lily would teach her son to read and write and undo the damage Sirius did when he taught her son about girls. She also healed all of their injuries. She taught Harry to brew potions and cast nonverbal wandless magic through his swords.
Moony, also known as Remus Lupin, was a werewolf. As such before the full moon lily would brew the wolfsbane potion and Padfoot would keep him company for the night. Lily would perfect the recipe after several times and the lines and scars from his years cursed as a werewolf would fade and he began looking more like a man in his twenties, than a twenty-something year old man who looked like he was forty. Moony would teach the boy to track and recognize magical creatures, as well as facilitating the chance for him to learn to speak several languages including magical ones like; Mermish, Gobbledegook, and Parseltongue.
Moony and Lily would teach Harry to read and write Ancient Runes as well as the basics of Arithmancy. While Padfoot would tutor him in British wizarding politics, which being the heir of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, he was uniquely qualified to teach Harry to one day reclaim his family seat in the Wizengamot.
The three adults found spells to get around the normal magic disrupting muggle electronics problem, so Harry grew up learning to be both a British and American, Muggle and Wizard.
After Harry turned ten, the adults had a conversation about returning to Britain so Harry could attend Hogwarts or if they should send him to Ilvermorny in America. After much discussion and an interview with the Headmaster there they decided that Harry would be better off at Ilvermorny. It was there that they learned that there were three open teaching positions at the school; one as a Potions Professor, one as a Defense against the Dark Arts Professor, and one as a Magical Creature Professor.
The September after he turned eleven, Harry would find himself in Ilvermorny’s sorting room where he found himself sorted into the Wampus house which was said to be where the warriors dwelled.
Number 12 Grimmauld Place, 1979
Regulus Arcturus Black was killed by inferi guarding a lake in a cave somewhere on the coast of England. His loyal house elf, Kreacher, just managed to escape with his master, to his father’s house. Before he succumbed to he told his father, Lord Orion Black, that the secret to Voldemort’s Immortality was Horcruxes, as he handed the Locket he’d recovered to his father he died. Not on speaking terms with his eldest son whom his wife had excommunicated but who he hadn’t disinherited. He then left a letter describing what had occurred within his will.
Meanwhile in Britain, 1982-1990
Several events occurred in Britain while the Extended Potter family was in voluntary exile in America. In the Wizengamot the light and darker factions created the Pure-blood legacy commission. Namely the commission created the last of the line act to allow pureblood families devastated by the war to be rebuilt.
Lily also received several letters from Gringotts, each year several days after Harry’s birthday informing her that Dumbledore had attempted to persuade the goblins to turn over control of the Potter vaults to him. He persistently came year after year on Harry’s birthday.
