Ron was gone before Hermione even saw the first rays of Sunlight. But it wasn't like she was used to waking up with someone in her bed. Ron had gotten a promotion to Headmaster and now left at 5:30 every morning to fulfill his duties whatever those happened to be for the day.
The young witch blinked her eyes against the invasive sunlight but knew it was time for her to get up, besides she still had to figure out how she was going to cut class a half hour early without alerting Dumbledore of some foul play. She in the years that she had worked there not once even requested a day, though she was given them, and it would be very uncharacteristically lazy of her to cut class with time to spare.
So she rolled out of bed and still groggy from the morning said "Accio Robes", and watched as the clothing she was going to wear for the day flew from her closet and neatly folded themsleves in front of her. She smiled. She didn't even have to use a wand anymore, she was getting so good. So she hopped up and dropped her nightgown, and started to reach for her clothes when she had the feeling she was being watched.
And upon turning her head to see who could possibly set off her feelings of unease, from the third story of a house mind you, she breathed a sigh of relief. It was just an owl. Hermione, still naked approached the bird and the note it had for presumably Ron. Huh Hermione thought I haven't ever seen this owl before. The owl looked fierce, not like it might cause her physical harm but like it had work to do, and had no time for Hermione's dawdling.
This turned out to be true as when Hermione grasped the note, the owl took off without even wanting a treat. Hermione thought it to be strange but didn't question it, Ron had many young girls writing him fan mail since the war, and it didn't really faze Hermione since most of the girls were no older than 12. And while she was concerned that Ron might still be seeing Lavender she had a fair amount of confidence that he wasn't interested in any 12 year olds. But before putting down the note to resume dressing, she read "To Hermione. Open in Private"
Hermione sighed. This had to be from Draco. But she looked around once again to make sure she was in fact still alone, then pulled the string that held the letter closed and began to read.
Hermione,
Remember 12 O'Clock Sharp.
I don't like to wait
-Draco
Hermione scowled. Maybe she would show up a few minutes late, spite the little prat. Then she shook her head and placed her fingers on her temples. He wasn't worth the trouble to spite, she just wanted to see what in Merlin's name He wanted so she could move on with her life.

As 11:30 rolled around, Hermione did something she never thought she would, and she faked sick. No one doubted her, since she wasn't one to play sick, and Dumbledore let her out with few words of "Feel better soon". Hermione faked a small smile then headed into Hogsmeade village.
When she had mentally gone over the map, she figured she could cut 30 minutes just by apparating to Diagon Alley and not walking like the map had recommended. But she still had to hurry. The clock was now ticking, and while the sane, rational part of her told her that it was okay to show up a few minutes late, the fact that Draco had repeated 3 times "12 O'Clock sharp" even once via carrier owl made her cautious about showing up even a minute late.
So Hermione began her journey and apparated into the depths of the alley. Then she was taken around corners and up stairs, there was even a secret passageway beneath a bush that let out right behind Olivanders. This whole journey sounded like something out of a book, and it made her nervous but at the same time lit up her stomach with butterflies, and not the bad kind.
When she finally got to the last part of the map before Draco's "office" the clock read 12:01. "Fuck" Hermione said out loud and hurried into the darkened alley that had the door to where she needed to be. And she was so caught up in her thoughts, she didn't feel a hand on her shoulder until she was pushed on her ass on the cold concrete.
"Hmm" A heavily accented voice rang out "What do we have here". "Looks like a girl" a higher pitched voice mocked Hermione. "We don't get many, how would you say... Visitors here" the man who the heavily accented voice belonged to emerged from the shadows. He was a big man, tall with dark eyes and a burn scar across his cheek. He was joined by a smaller woman, but when she opened her mouth, Hermione saw a row of pointed teeth.
"You made a fatal mistake coming here, girlie" The woman spoke in her shrill voice. Hermione quickly reached for her wand and pointed it at the strangers.
"Nice try, little girl but your little tricks won't work here" the man said
"Reducto!" Hermione yelled. But nothing, not even a spark came from her wand. She tried again. And Again, every try becomming more desperate as the two closed in on her. Why did I let Draco talk me into coming here? Now I am going to die! Hermione's brain screamed at her.
Hermione covered her face with her arms as the two approached, but just when the man was within arms reach, a door opened from behind them and the all too familiar voice of Draco Malfoy echoed around the empty walls.
"Alright, Rottweiler, Mags, let the girl be. I know she is late but she is with me"
Mags? Rottweiler, what the hell?! Hermione's brain exploded at her. Draco knew these people?!
"But you said that late meat is dead meat!" The woman whined "And I am sooo hungry... Can't I just take a small nibble, master Draco?"
Draco smirked "If it was anyone else then yes, but this girl isn't my average slimy business partner who you can just rip to shreds if she is late".
Both man and woman looked disappointed, but the woman took Hermione's hand and brushed off her robes for her then led her too the doorway
"Have a good afternoon with Master Draco" The woman forced a smile and small bow in front of Hermione, but upon the last took she got of the woman's overly huge lime green eyes, the only thing she saw was contempt.
Draco took Hermione's hand and led her to a small office room where he instructed her to sit. Hermione, usually would protest but with everything that had just happened she was a little lost for words.
"I told you not to be late" Draco said coldly
"It's not like I didn't try to be on time"
"You should have tried harder"
"I don't know what you expect me to do about it now, and who were those.... dare I say... people"
"My bodyguards"
"Your...
"Bodyguards, yes. In this particular business of mine tardiness denotes a lack of manners and since only the best of the best get the priviledge to be in my presence-
"Your bodyguards rip the others limb from limb, I think I got that part"
Draco's entire body snapped toward Hermione, and he grasped her chin again, this time his face was so close to hers she could pick out the different colors of his eyes. "What did I say about interrupting me, pet?"
Hermione gulped
"That's what I thought. Now for the reason you're here" Draco paused and leaned back against his polished desk "You were the only student in our entire grade level back in Potions class, year 6, who perfected an Amortencia potion, that was like our professor said 'the strongest he'd ever smelled'"
"Yes" Hermione said "So...?"
"So" Draco shot back at her "I have a... shall we say... Client at the moment who is a bit bad at love, and wants to pay top dollar" Draco stopped and took a moment to look Hermione to reiterate the statement "Top. Dollar. " Hermione winced
"He will pay a very large sum of money, probably more than you could ever get your grimy little muggle hands on in a life time for a perfectly brewed pot of Amortencia"
Hermione scowled "There are lots of witches... and wizards who can help you with this-
Draco slammed his fist down on his desk "Perfect Hermione, have you heard a word I bloody said. This potion has to be perfect- I can't just have some mediocre witch or wizard help me... I need you, it's not just the money, my reputation is at stake! I am the best of the best and if word gets around that I am not providing top quality items my name will be dragged through the mud-
"Oh poor you" Hermione mocked feeling a little bolder "You're not the one who almost got torn to shreds by two... I don't even know what those things are"
Draco took a step toward Hermione and ran his fingertips down her cheek, she winced expecting him to dig them into her flesh, but his touch stayed gentle and he spoke once more.
"You will be payed nicely, pet. I just really need your help"
"And what does payed nicely denote?"
Draco walked over to his desk and pulled out the largest amount of money she had ever seen "I will give you 100,000 galleons as a starting payment, and after the potion is finished you will have enough to retire at age 24"
Hermione swallowed hard. That was awfully tempting. Then she thought of the logistics "Draco, the day I made that potion I was in love, that's the only reason...
"Aren't you in love now?"
Hermione sighed and Draco threw up his hands "Great just great! My only hope isn't even in love enough to help me survive until next month! Fabulous!"
"Did you just say, survive?" Hermione asked slowly and Draco slumped down in his desk chair.
"What do you care, Granger, if you can't help me then just leave"
"I can't help you if I don't even know what's going on with you"
Draco paused and fiddled with his shirt buttons before speaking "I made a bit of a gamble lately"
"Which means-
"Which means, that I took a client, and in this business that means that you have something to lose, such as do this for me and you'll get paid, fail to do it right and suffer the consquences of whatever you bet"
"What did you bet"
"Hermione I need you to know I was in a bad place when I-
"Draco, what did you bet?"
"My life"
The two stared at each other for what felt like an infinity "Why did you bet your life?"
"My client is blood thirsty, and as much as he wants love, the only way he would take my offer is if I bet my life, and I thought.. How hard could it be, make a love potion? I was given a year. But nothing. I have gone through partner after partner, month after month. It's november 15th right now, and I have until Christmas to get him his potion, in perfect condition or..."
"I thought you were in the business of relics"
Draco smirked darkly "Yeah, we call it that. It's so much more though. Occasionally you'll get a customer who just wants an old book of black magic, something relatively simple, and the only consequence of not getting it to them is not being paid. But mostly I have customers who liked to gamble, who like to have power over you, who like to reap what you owe them if you don't get them what you signed a contract to get them"
"You signed a contract- ON YOUR LIFE?"
"Astoria had just left me, and I was in a dark place, and I figured it's a love potion, how hard could it be to get it right?"
Draco pressed his fingertips into his temples "Turns out it's bloody impossible"
Hermione's expression softened and she walked over to Draco and put her hand on his shoulder "I will help you"
Draco's head snapped up from his hands and he looked Hermione in the eyes "Really?"
"Yes" Hermione said trying to sound confident. She didn't like Draco but she didn't want him to die, and she could never just walk away from something like this and plead ignorance. She knew that she had become a part of this the minute she accepted that map from the Malfoy boy.
Draco's stern demeanor returned "Then you will be back here, tomorrow. 12 Sharp"
Hermione had no idea why Draco was being such a prat given his dire situation, but it kind of excited her. And terrified her at the same time.
Draco walked Hermione to the door but not before handing her a little crystal. "It's Nargle repellent, it will keep my bodyguards off of you"
"Did you just say-
"Ha" Draco smirked "Turns out Lovegood wasn't all that Looney afterall, and Nargles, well if you pay them well enough are actually pretty good bodyguards"
Hermione just took a breath then turned to leave "One more thing Granger" Draco's voice called out behind her and she stopped to look back at him "Wear something sexier to our next visit, I could barely see your figure in those tattered robes of yours".
Hermione grimaced.
