Chapter 02: Face Down
Mr. Weasley led the group through the hills beyond the Weasley property. Hermione, Ron, Harriett, Fred, and George followed. Fred and and George shoved back and forth as they hiked through the ankle high grass. Harriett flourished the new dress Mrs. Weasley has made for Harriett’s birthday as she danced her way along.
“Do you like it?”
“Yes,” Hermione said for the fifth time already. Her smile was still genuine knowing Harriett has most likely never had a present from the Dursleys. The dress was multi-layered which gave more body to Harriett’s lower half, giving her a more feminine figure.
“That’s bullocks,” Ron said.
“What?” Harriett stopped.
“When my mum makes me something, it never looks as good as that.” Ron pulled out a knitted beanie and put it on. The top leaned to one side. “It’s not even straight! It’s like a cow licked me.”
Harriett ran at him with her tongue out. Ron retreated to the safety of his brothers. Fred turned and saw Harriett approach with her tongue out. He reached to grab it and she flinched back and slapped his hand.
“You’re nasty!”
“You’re the one trying to lick people,” Fred said.
Harriett crossed her arms.
“I thought your elder brothers were coming?” Hermione tried walking Harriett away from the twins but they followed.
“Elders?” George laughed.
“They’re too old and lazy so they’re apparating later,” Fred said.
“What?”
Hermione explained. “It’s like teleporting.”
Harriett’s eye’s widened. “Wait. You can just, poof, and be somewhere?”
“You have to take a test,” Fred said.
“Like a driver’s license but better,” George said.
“It’s not as great as it sounds,” Ron said. “You can get splinched.”
“Splinched?”
Both Fred and George’s eyes lit up and jumped to Harriett’s side as they walked.
“It’s when you come out the other side, all twisted up…”
“Or missing parts…”
“Or exchanged parts…”
Fred and George whispered enough for the teens to hear but their father couldn’t.
“We know this one fellow…”
“He tried learning on his own…”
“And when he ended up on the other side, he felt different…”
“What happened?” Ron, Hermione, and Harriett asked in unison.
“When he looked in the mirror…”
“His cock was on his forehead.”
Harriett covered her mouth and laughed. Hermione scrunched her face; Ron shoved George and pulled Harriett away from them.
“Stop lying to her,” Ron said.
“It’s true,” George said.
“Why do you think Dorian has that circular scar on his head?” Fred said.
“They had to remove it and then reattach it properly.”
“But I hear it doesn’t fully work the same anymore.” Fred winked.
Hermione did recall that the Weasley twins had a classmate with a scar on his head. Even though she didn’t fully believe it, it made her laugh.
“Pervs, all of you,” Ron said.
Hermione and Harriett hit him in the arms from both sides.
“Oww!”
The group hiked another five minutes before they saw a pair of men come over a western hill. One of them waved towards the group.
“Arthur! We found it!” The man held up an object Harriett and Hermione couldn’t make out.
“Ah, there they are.” Mr. Weasley said.
The two men approached and it was obvious they were father and son. The older handsome man held a raggedy boot, but it was the younger man that Harriett and Hermione recognized immediately. He was a little bit taller and leaner than his father. His hair was brushed to one side with a level of style non of the Weasley men or boys could manage. With every breath of wind the tips of his hair danced above his brow.
“Everyone, this is Amos Diggory,” Mr. Weasley announced. “And his son…”
“Cedric!” Harriett and Hermione said a little too enthusiastically.
Hermione hopped forward and offered her hand with a smile. Cedric took both and smiled back.
“Hermione, isn’t it?”
Hermione’s shoulders sank as if her energy has just run out. All she could do was nod back.
“You’re the brilliant one that keeps scoring higher than Hannah on all the tests and becoming top student.”
Brilliant, was the only word Hermione really heard. She nodded again, despite it all. Harriett pushed her way between them and and stole the handshake.
“Cedric.”
“Harriett, what a treat,” Cedric grinned.
Harriett’s handshake was then stolen by Amos Diggory, and her smile retreated which made Hermione giggle.
“Ah, Harriett Potter. Nice to finally meet you.” He shook her hand hard even with her trying to pull away. “I attended one of your matches last year.” He whispered, “the one my son beat you.”
“Dad…”
Amos let go and Harriett flexed her hand until the feeling came back. “Oh, that one.” Harriett remembered fainting from the dementors and falling off her broom. “I wasn’t feeling to good that day. I’ll get him this year.”
“Didn’t Woods tell you? There’s no Quidditch this year,” Cedric said.
“What?” Harriett took a step back. “Why?”
Cedric shrugged. “No idea. Supposedly there’s something bigger going on this year and there’s no time for it.”
Harriett and Hermione looked at each other thinking the same thing. What could be bigger than Quidditch?
“You’ll just have to get me another way…” Cedric paused at the smile Harriett was now giving. “I meant, get me back… get back at me.”
It was no use though, Harriett had only heard his first remark and ignored the rest.
“Everyone, gather around the portkey.” Mr. Weasley said.
The group formed a tight circle and Mr. Diggory held out the dilapidated boot. Mr. Weasley went on to explain how an item can be magically enchanted to teleport to a specific place when held.
“Like the floo network.” Hermione said. She looked up at Cedric who nodded back.
“Now, everyone touch it at the same time, and keep your feet under you.” Mr. Weasley said.
“Keep my feet?” Harriett said.
“3…2…1…”
When they grabbed the boot, Hermione felt like her body was being snatched away from her stomach and after a moment it joined her. The horizon became a blur of passing clouds. Her knees buckled and instead of falling down, she felt as if the ground came up to her. After a thud there was darkness. She could feel the ground now but also layers of material all around. She tried pushing herself up but whatever was wrapped around her held her down.
“Help!”
She could hear Harriett laughing.
“No wonder she doesn’t like you Fred, she’s into girls.” George said.
Hermione began flailing and felt someone’s legs on both sides of her head.
“That tickles!” Harriett kicked her feet while laying on the grass. Her dress bulged from Hermione trying to fight her way out.
Ron pulled Hermione by the ankles until she was free. Hermione sat on her knees and dusted her face. She saw Harriett wink at her.
“I thought you were inexperienced.” Harriett said while standing.
“Shut up.”
When the two were on their feet, they found themselves on the verge of a campground. Beyond the fleet of tents was the largest stadium Hermione had ever seen, even larger than the ones in London.
“Welcome to the Quidditch Cup!” Mr. Weasley said.
“This was the secret?” Ron jumped up. “How did you get tickets?”
“Work has its perks sometimes,” his father said.
The Weasley’s and the Diggory’s said their farewells as the two groups headed to their own tents. Mr. Weasley mentioned that many people had been camping there for weeks in advance. Bill, his eldest, had set up the Weasley tent 2 weeks prior so they could get a decent spot. Among the residential tents were merchant stalls and half-tents. Harriett, Hermione, and Ron were making notes of which merchants they wanted to visit later.
“Here we are.” Mr. Weasley pulled back the opening of a four-man tent.
The twins entered first. Harriett and Hermione looked at each other, neither wanting to squeeze into the small tent.
“What are you waiting for?” Ron said before ducking inside.
Hermione grunted and followed, pulling Harriett’s hand to make sure she wasn’t left alone. After passing through three entrance drapes the tent opened up to a living area as large as a small house. It was a spacial charm, similar to the should bag she owned.
Harriett shook Hermione’s arm. “Isn’t magic simply the best!”
