Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
An extremely dire event brought the two lovers out of their elation.
To discover that her best friend was murdered (for it could not be called in any other way, regardless of what shite the Ministry spat) at the same time that she was looking for her name at the library, and to know that the bodies were only discovered hour after the fact truly put a damper on Delilah's mood.
She knew that it was not her fault, what was she supposed to do anyway? Fight off a murder of dozens of dementors? whilst fighting both Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew at the same time? (until an investigation was made and someone explained to her just how the supposedly vaporized Pettigrew was also found in a soulless state, she would assume that they both were hostile towards her).
And then there were the Weasleys... All four siblings were inconsolable, she wanted to be with them so badly, she wanted to hold them as they all cried together but... she just couldn't, the irrational guilt at being so happy the previous night while her best friend was getting his soul sucked off by those abominations impeded her.
She could not even talk to Hermione, her once best (female) friend.
The poor girl was still recovering from the spat they had earlier in the year, thinking to herself that if she just had mended things with Ron, maybe he would still be alive. She had a Time-Turner for heaven's sake! The one opportunity to do something selfless with it (rules be damned!) and she didn't even knew what was going on until the very next day, when it was too late to do anything.
She took a hard look at herself and felt utterly disgusted with what she saw, her academic pursuits and rule-abiding attitude put her at odds with her two best friends, her pride made it impossible for her to apologize, knowing that she was in the right... but was she? She also felt shame when, in spite of his not talking to her, Harry's grades were steadily getting better and better, contrary to what she was hoping.
She realized Harry must have fallen into a guilt trip, as he was wont to do, often burdening himself with issues that were outside of his control. And yet…
And yet she felt as if an invisible wall was now in between them... As if she would never have her Harry back, not as he was before…
But she knew she could not let that happen.
Harry had always been her best friend, their relationship transcended any other, and she would do everything in her power to make sure they stay that way, she HAD to make sure they remained friends.
But not that day, she had to grieve and mourn on her own, giving Harry time to do the same (she reasoned).
And just like that, she unknowingly lost the opportunity to remain in Delilah's life.
Back to Delilah, as classes and exams were cancelled for the rest of the term, only the fifth and seventh years were still required to present their O.W.L. and N.E.W.T examinations (except for the elder Weasley brothers, they were given the chance to present OWLs and NEWTs at a later date), she roamed the castle aimlessly, even with the removal of the Dementors from the school grounds (and Hogsmeade), she just couldn't find it in herself to care anymore.
Only Astoria could momentarily bring her out of her funk.
With all the free time they were granted (the professors considered for a while the possibility of ending the term sooner but ultimately decided against it), Delilah started looking for spot in where she could brood in peace. Astoria reminded her of the Chamber of Secrets, knowing she was possibly the only person in United Kingdom capable of opening it.
And so, like how their friendship started in that very place, soon the duo found themselves in the second-floor bathroom. Not forgetting to lock the door that time, Delilah hissed in Parseltongue at the snake-incrusted sink.
They watched in amazement as the wall reconfigured itself, forming a long, slopped tunnel directly into the bowels of the castle.
"Love..." Tori looked at the seemingly endless passage, then turned to look at Delilah "I know you told me you jumped in there the last time but... Is it truly the only way down?" she asked imploringly.
"Actually... I don't know, to be honest..." She scratched the back of her head, sheepishly "We were kind of in a rush you see... Jump first, ask questions later, you know? Ha, ha, ha…"
"You are lucky I love you" she grumbled "I seriously doubt Salazar Slytherin just slid down the tunnel whenever he wanted to go into the chamber... Try saying something else, like stairs, or steps, anything!"
Delilah did as instructed, trying several different words, until she came up with the right one:
"~Steps~"
A series of steps appeared from the sides of the tunnel, meeting in the middle, at the same time torches lit up one by one, illuminating the now visible spiral stairway.
The two witches walked down the staircase, Delilah trying to hide her nervousness by constantly glancing over her shoulder.
At the bottom of the stairs, a large set of double doors made of polished stone greeted them.
Delilah pushed on the leftmost door, finding it surprisingly light and easy to open.
On the other side of the door was a rather large room, which was clearly the Chamber of Secrets, judging by the numerous statues of Slytherin adorning the chamber, that and the dead Basilisk in the middle of it.
Astoria approached the mythical serpent with no small amount of trepidation.
"How... how did you do this?" It certainly was bigger than the stories that Delilah told her. She saw, with morbid fascination, that she and Delilah could easily fit into the beast's mouth and there would still be room to spare.
She slowly reached out a hand, the tips of her fingers just brushing the beast's rough scales.
"I don't know if I can really tell you, Tori" she whispered almost as shocked as her "The memories from that day are mostly a blur now... I was way out of my league and, if not for sheer dumb luck, I would have died that day."
Tori smiled "You always had a way of doing things your way, Delilah... But, you know, that is probably why I love you so much" she added, embracing her lover in a tight hug./

Time flew by, no one in the castle (except Hermione) wondering about Harry's continued absence, His trunk still in the dormitory a clear sign that he didn't just leave the castle. Everyone thinking that he was hit harder than most by the death of the Weasley, thus moping about in a random classroom.
While that would have been truth the first two or three days after getting the news, nowadays Delilah was thriving inside the Chamber. Ron's death was a wake up call for her, knowing (and reaffirming) that Hogwarts was as safe as a whorehouse in Knocturn Alley, she knew that no one would come to her help should shite hit the proverbial fan, she needed to learn to protect herself.
And so she did, with Astoria's help they learned and practiced more than ever before, discovering a cache of snake-language texts and books (she called it Parselscript), no doubt written by either Slytherin himself or his descendants, proved to be an incredible boon. Curses, Hexes and Jinxes lost to the times were now at the tip of their wands.
She noted there were also copious amounts of notes about Basilisk breeding. Contrary to popular belief, you couldn't just pick a random toad and egg and hope a Basilisk hatched from it, there was a complicated series of steps, coupled with advanced Arithmanthic and Divination principles involved, a half-aborted blood ritual which required, perhaps unsurprisingly, willing blood of a maiden.
She honestly didn't know how to feel about it. She supposed having a deadly snake as a pet/companion was an incredibly smart idea, however.
Nobody questioned 'Harry' when 'he' reappeared as suddenly as 'he' disappeared just one day before the end of term. Likewise, not one noticed the extra spring in 'his' steps.
What they did notice was how 'he' joined Susan Bones at the library and how the two of them spoke for a lengthy amount of time. Considering Bones' status as the only family of the director of the DMLE (and how the whole Sirius Black episode seemed to center around Harry), people only speculated for a bit about their talk but ultimately decided it was considered 'normal' behavior.
Unfortunately for the Wizarding World at large, that talk cemented the series of decisions Delilah would take the following year:
"Susan!" Harry whispered effusively, no point in gaining the ire of Madam Pince by breaking the library's rules.
Susan looked startled for a second "Oh... Hey, Harry!" she replied in an equally intense whisper "how have you been..." she started but then stopped short, smile slipping out of her face. To everyone's knowledge Ron's death had hit Harry the hardest, that was the reason for his sudden disappearance after all, wasn't it? Just how dense would was she to ask him how he was?!
Before Susan could recriminate herself further, Harry answered in a surprisingly warm tone "Quite well, actually... I've had time to think thinks and even though I'm not happy about it at all I'm more... accepting? of the whole situation."
'Well, isn't that surprising' she thought, a smile forming on her mouth once again "I see" Susan nodded, her eyes wandering around the room "well... I hope you've found some peace with everything... I know how hard it is to lose someone you love…"
"Well, I am happy to say that I have been able to find peace with most things" Harry smiled, trying to make light of the situation.
"Good... I'm glad to hear that" she said, returning the smile "but just so you know, if you ever need to talk or anything, I'm here, Harry" she added, looking straight into his eyes.
Harry's smile grew "Thanks, Susan... I appreciate it, really." He sighed contently, then focused on what he really wanted to talk about "Actually I came looking for you to ask something…"
'Ah, so that was it' It made her curious that Harry wanted to speak to her. Even if she wasn't one of those that openly shunned Harry the previous year, he knew she did nothing to make the situation better, not even bothering to engage him in small talk. She felt ashamed after Hermione granger was found petrified, knowing instantly that Harry could NOT have been Slytherin's heir, even if he had a particular magical talent such as being a Parselmouth. 'Well, it's not like I gave him any reason to be friends to start with...' she ruefully thought.
"Say, you wouldn't know about laws regarding the ownership of a dangerous magical creature's remains, would you?"
"…"
"... Explain." She curtly demanded of him.
"Well..." he started sheepishly and proceeded to relate the tale of his second year adventures, omitting no detail at all.
"You mean to tell me that You" she pointed at him, willing for his stupid mop of hair to catch on fire if the glare she threw at him was any indication "not only fought and killed a who-knows-how-old massive Basilisk that was responsible for the strings of petrifications last year, but also destroyed some kind of cursed diary that held an echo of a student named Tom Riddle which is actually the name of he-who-must-not... Voldemort, who spent all the year possessing an unwilling Ginny Weasley. And not only that but you almost died yourself when one of the Basilisk's fangs pierced your shoulder, only saved by the tears of the headmaster's phoenix. Same phoenix that conveniently brought you the Sorting Hat, from which you retrieved Gryffindor's Sword with which you killed said Basilisk.
And you were doing this, alone, because our DADA instructor, Gilderoy Lockhart, was incapacitated because of a botched Obliviation attempt on you and Ron, which brought down part of the tunnel that led to the Chamber of Secrets.
AND after all was over, the same convenient phoenix brought you, Ginny and Ron Weasley and Lockhart directly to the headmaster's office, no stop to the medical wing, no medical assistance of any kind was given to you whilst you related your feat to the Headmaster, professor Snape and the Weasley parents.
Oh and let's not forget that just minutes after that you managed to free the Malfoy's House-elf, with Lucius Malfoy retaliating and almost cursing you. A minor. On school grounds."
"Well... when you put it that way…"
"Which way? The way that makes every single adult in this castle look incompetent, negligent and outright criminal in some cases? The way that makes you sound like a bloody Merlin-be-damned hero?!"
Susan started getting more and more incensed, Harry tried to do something to placate her.
"Hey, it's not that bad, I got an award!" As he finished he knew it was an extremely stupid defense on the school's behalf.
"You. Got. An. Award. For killing a massive XXXXX-classified magical creature. A known wizard-killer. With a Sword. A. Bloody. Sword. The same award that was previously given to a young Voldemort" Harry had to admire the extent of Susan's rage since she could easily say the dreaded name without even flinching. "And don't even get me started on the colony of human-eating spiders living right at the school's footsteps."
Susan took a resigned sigh, looking at him wearily.
"Why do you even bother coming back, Harry. You have been closer to death than most of the Aurors I know in just two years of schooling... Just... why would you choose to come back?" Se asked, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Harry's smile faded, unspoken hurt flashing on his emerald orbs "Because, no matter what happened in here, it was better than back with my relatives" he whispered softly... "at least here I found people that care for me…"
That did it, Susan started sobbing, cursing the fates for giving the young wizard in front of her such a terrible life. Unprompted Harry gathered her in his soft and tender arms. Her already ample bosom pressed against his chest.
"I don't have anywhere else to go, Suzie..." he murmured into her hair "I have a family here... I... I can't just leave…"
She sobbed even harder. They continued their embrace for some time.
"You know... you never told me if you knew about creature-slaying spoils' law..." Harry told her not long after her sobbing stopped, eliciting a chuckle and a sniffle from her.
"You berk... I do know one law that states if one were to slay a beast that had previously killed a wizard, that person becomes the rightful owner of the remains.."
"Oh really? How come no one ever told me?" He asked incredulously.
"Well, I mean, I don't know, maybe it's just you... But anyway, I'll send a letter to my aunt and see what we can do about it."
"Thanks, Sue... I really appreciate it…"

The trip back to London was pretty much uneventful, without the constant reminder of the darker side of magic (Dementors) randomly popping up unannounced (but not unexpectedly since the weather did become noticeably chilly and dread-y) in the various train carriages, students were more than willing to leave that traumatizing year behind them.
Well, most of them, anyway.
"So, you'll come visit us, Daph?"
The aristocratic-looking blonde girl gave her friend a stare "Yes, I will, Tracey. And I told you to stop calling me that!"
"Aww, come on Daph, you know you like it" Her cheerful brunette friend teased.
"No, I don't! Besides, you're the only one who calls me that!"
Tracey smiled at her friend's petulant tone "Okay, Daph, I won't call you that anymore..." pouting at her.
"Oh, alright..." She conceded, allowing a smile to form on her face.
"Anyway, I'm going to be spending a lot of time with my brother and his new girlfriend..." she said, eyes shining with joy "and then I'm going to be with my family at their summer house in the country. It's so peaceful there... I love it."
"Sounds nice... Hey, want to-" She was interrupted as a disheveled Hermione Granger abruptly opened the compartment's door.
"Have you seen Harry?" She asked in desperation.
The duo could only shake their heads, too dumbfounded by her interruption to do much else.
"Where is he?" She asked again, growing increasingly frustrated.
"I don't know, I haven't seen him since yesterday, when he spoke to Bones" Daphne answered honestly.
"Arhgggg!" she grunted in frustration, rudely closing the door and leaving to continue her search.
"So... that happened..." Tracey sighed, looking at her friend with sympathy, having known of the enmity Daphne held towards Granger.
"Yeah, it did..." Daphne agreed, looking out the window.
"You think he's alright?" Tracey asked, a concerned look on her face, even though she knew that Harry would never be anything but.
"He's fine, Tracey, don't worry. He's probably just getting over the whole Dementor deal…"
"But he was gone for so long... what if something happened to him?"
"Oh, please..." Daphne scoffed "If there's any truth to the rumors of the previous years, I doubt anything can happen to him."
"Well, he did get hurt on first year, didn't he?"
"I know he was in the hospital wing but no one ever explained why... And then there's the points Dumbledore gave out at the last second..." It was a nasty surprise, no doubt about it. Her house was about to win the House Cup just to be robbed of it minutes before getting it. "There's just so much surrounding him that makes no sense.." Daphne became thoughtful.
"Yeah, like last year and the whole petrification fiasco…"
"That's what I'm talking about! We know nothing of what happened, who, how, why, none of it! There's just so many secrets around him, it's making me paranoid…"
"Well, at least he got over his fear of dementors…"
"... You do remember that Weasley was kissed, right?""
"... point…"
"AHHRRRHHGG!" both deadpanned when they heard the desperation-filled scream.
"I think she just spoke with-""Susan, yeah…"

Loud thuds could be heard in the distance, most likely the sounds of doors being slammed shut.
Or of someone smashing someone else's head on a wall…
Ironically it was a combination of the two, although not for the reasons one might have expected.
On a suitably charmed carriage of the train, a pair of witches were indulging in a little bit of girl-on-girl action, oblivious to the world around them.
"That was so good, love" Astoria said, smiling at her lover, her tongue running over her lips, before slamming each other into another of the compartment's walls.
"Mmmhmmm..." Delilah moaned, pulling back from her partner's tight embrace, her fingers tangled in her hair. "So good…"
At some point they decided that standing up in a moving train was prone to increase the risk of injury, thus they chose responsibly and became intimate familiar with each other whilst on the floor.
She looked down at the witch she loved, her emerald eyes gazing up at her with adoration and love.
"I'm going to miss you..." she whispered, taking one of her hands and kissing it.
"Me too... I'll miss you so much" she replied, leaning in to kiss her passionately.
The pair kissed for a while, their tongues entwining, their lips pressing together.
They would have continued had a wretched-looking Hermione Granger not barged into their compartment, after frustratingly undoing most of the privacy charms the inquisitive witches had previously casted.
Without even a knock, the door was slammed open. Hermione was of the mind of hexing whatever or whoever put so many damned charms on it.
"Where is he?" She demanded, before seeing the pair of witches exploring each other tongue's on the floor.
"Who?" Delilah stopped kissing Astoria and asked, looking up at her, confused.
"I.. errr.. uhh..." Apparently, Hermione's bravado and frustration drained out of her when she saw the state of semi undress of the two (she thought) younger witches in front of her.
Whilst they weren't completely naked (yet), Delilah was wearing nothing but her knickers, Astoria still had her skirt on.
"What are you doing?" She asked in disbelief, her face now red with embarrassment.
"We're kissing...?" Astoria said slowly, trying to figure out why the girl was so angry.
"No, you aren't! You're doing more than that!" The bushy haired one snapped, pointing a finger at them.
"Not yet we aren't" added Delilah, helpfully, eliciting a chuckle from Astoria.
"You're lesbians! You're both lesbians!" Hermione gasped.
They looked at each other and deadpanned, then looked at her and said "Duh?" simultaneously.
After staring at each other for a while, Delilah decided to at least get her bra on. She stood up to reach for it which drew Hermione's attention to the pair of melons hanging from her chest.
Embarrassed beyond belief, Hermione's face turned tomato red as she stared at the exposed breasts her mouth agape.
"Uh, well... I'll just be going..." she muttered, not wanting to look at either of them any longer.
Astoria and Delilah shared a glance, a small smile on their faces. Suddenly, Astoria grabbed one of Delilah's breasts, sensually licking the other one.
Hermione had enough, she eeped and bolted out of the compartment, much to the laughter of the minx duo.
Carelessly waving her hand, Delilah closed shut the compartment's door, reapplying the locking and silencing charms. She took her wand (forgotten inside her robes) to apply a strong notice-me-not charm at the door.
She turned around and smiled at her lover, who was now sitting on the floor.
"Did you see how red her face got?" She asked, a cheeky grin on her face.
"Yeah, for a moment there she looked like she wanted to join us too." Astoria teased.
"Ugghh, please don't joke about that."
"It's just... she reacted too strongly at seeing us kissing…"
Delilah sighed, "You know she comes from a muggle environment... From what she has told me, she has a religious family which, although open enough to apparently be accepting of magic, are still kind of biased…"
Astoria hummed. "Well, it's not like we can do anything about it" she shrugged "besides, she seemed pretty desperate looking for someone... You, maybe?"
"Most likely, I haven't spoken to her since Ron's..." she almost whispered at the end, shaking her head and continuing "the couple of times we saw each other she acted as if she was avoiding me, though…"
"She was mourning most likely, love... Maybe she needed some time alone?" Astoria conceded.
Delilah shook her head "No... I caught her a couple of times speaking with Ginny and the twins... She was avoiding me specifically…"
"And you decided to avoid her in turn, I guess?"
"Kind of? It's not like I had it all planned so that we wouldn't interact with each other. You know I've been sort of busy working on things, even after coming out of the Chamber…"
"If by 'things' you mean me and by 'working out' you mean working ME out, well…"
"Oh you cheeky minx" Delilah giggled.
"It's not like I don't understand why you're so worked up over me" she continued "I'm gorgeous, I'm intelligent, I'm rich, I'm a powerful witch, I'm... I'm everything you want... Why wouldn't you be attracted to me?"
"Well, that's a matter of opinion" Delilah smirked, playfully poking her lover's side.
"But it's true, isn't it?" She asked, taking hold of one of Delilah's breasts.
"Of course it is" Delilah replied, playfully biting her lower lip, "but I think I'm even more irresistible" she added, reaching down to her knickers and slowly sliding them off.
"Mmmhmmm" Astoria moaned, looking up at her, her eyes sparkling.
It was proving to be an extremely nice train ride for the two young lovers.
/-/CM/-/
Finally the train reached King Cross' Station, scores of children were seen leaving the locomotive, soon meeting with parents and/or other family.
Astoria had left the compartment a few minutes after arrival, intent on meeting her sister so they could look for their parents together, leaving behind a heavily satisfied and extremely randy witch.
Delilah sighed, knowing she would have to be 'Harry' for good part of the summer vacations. She would like nothing more than finally being herself, but she knew being a metamorphmagus was a secret, a secret that may very well save her life one day.
So she would endure.
"Only four more years at the most... Once I leave Hogwarts I can be whoever the hell I want" she mumbled to herself.
Changing back into Harry, she put on some clothes. Even if she had to be back with the Dursleys on a "fake" body, she would not be wearing the rags she did back then.
So off she trodded back into the muggle portion of the train station. Without too much hassle she found Uncle Vernon (a man that obese is really hard to miss) and Aunt Petunia.
They looked at her with disgust, as expected.
"Oh, look, it's the freak" she heard her aunt mutter, loud enough for everyone around to hear.
"Pet." Uncle Vernon growled "Not. Now. We don't want the people to associate us with the freaks." he reprimanded her in whispers, her aunt got a chastised expression.
"Come here, boy! Time's a-wasting!" Vernon called to her, who reluctantly walked over to him.
Vernon carelessly threw her school stuff into the car's trunk, he was tempted to throw her owl there too, but knew that'd raise more than one eyebrow (freakish or not, animal rights movements were gaining force in Europe and Britain was no exception), so he just quasi-threw Delilah and Hedwig (cage included) into the backseat.
The trip back home was extra awkward for her. Not being in her true form was one thing she could withstand thanks to her friends (especially Astoria), not being in her true form AND being surrounded by people who so obviously despised her… Yeah, it was going to be a sucky summer.
Finally they arrived at Private Drive no.4. She could only sigh in exasperation, counting the days until summer was over.
With resignation she hopped off the car, quickly picking her trunk and owl cage.
"Take care of that bird, boy, I don't want it getting loose and bothering anyone" her uncle added.
"Yes, sir" Delilah nodded, she felt as if her uncle was being extra rough with her.
"Well, come on, get out of my sight" he said, his face turning red, clearly embarrassed by his nephew's presence.
Delilah complied, taking her stuff up towards her bedroom. It certainly wasn't any better than last summer. Still the same semi-broken bed, the same old dresser and the same worn carpet.
She sat down on her bed, wondering what Astoria was doing in that moment, no doubt she would have arrived at her family's mansion (for what else could it be when it had a full bathroom on each bedroom, dining hall, study hall, library, kitchen (helpfully managed by a small army of loyal house-elves), a pool and of course the garden).
She wondered if she should go to visit her, but she knew her uncle would forbid her to see Astoria, or anyone else for that matter, so she decided against it.
Instead, she went to her trunk and took out the third-year schoolbooks she had been using during the year, deciding to try and do some reading.
/-/CM/-/
A few weeks later, she was awoken by her uncle's booming voice.
"You have chores to do, boy! Get your lazy ass out of bed!"
She groaned, rolling out of bed, getting dressed and heading downstairs.
"What the hell is this?" He asked, pointing at a dirty plate on the table.
"Oh, sorry, I forgot to clean it before I went to sleep." she replied, proceeding do the dishes.
"You forgot to do the dishes again, boy!" He roared, grabbing her by the collar and throwing her into the wall.
"OW! Damn it!" She yelled, rubbing her shoulder.
"Don't you ever talk back to me, boy!" He roared, shaking her "You're lucky I haven't hit you yet…"
"I'm sorry, Uncle Vernon, I didn't mean to... I'll do it right away" she said, rubbing her sore shoulder.
"You useless freak!" He bellowed, grabbing her arm and dragging her upstairs.
He threw her into her room and slammed the door behind him.
"Damn it!" She swore, lying on the floor.
She didn't know what to do. She knew her uncle would be furious with her, but he was so unreasonable. He never listened to her, always yelled at her and treated her like a piece of trash.
She had to get out of there, she couldn't stay there.
But how?
She only knew two things: she was going to have to run away.
And she was going to do it alone, she would not be the scrawny Boy-Who-Lived anymore, hoping that someone would help her (and being sorely disappointed afterwards).
She would fight.
After a while Delilah managed to stand up.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, she grabbed her trunk, took her Hedwig out of her cage and proceeded to sneakily leave the house.
"I'm not afraid anymore, I'll show them, I'll show them all..." She muttered, smiling.
Finally she made it to the end of the street, she took a deep breath to collect herself and to change into her true form. Immediately a sense of relief washed over her, never before had she been so grateful of Dudley's hand-me-downs either, the extra baggy clothes easily covering up her assets.
"Hedwig, we're leaving. Go to the Leaky Cauldron, I'll be there in a minute." She said, patting her owl's head. With a soft hoot, the snowy owl made her way towards Diagon Alley.
Without the owl, the only way someone could somehow link Harry and Delilah together would be if they were intimately familiar with her school trunk. Since the number of people that would be able to identify her that way was recently reduced to 0 (on account of Ron's tragic death), no one would ever be able to connect the dots. Or at least that's what she hoped.
In reality, Ollivander would still be able to recognize her thanks to her Holly wand, maybe the goblins at Gringotts would identify her too, what with all of the bank's (beefed up since her first year) security measures.
And maybe the House-Elves, those little buggers knew their way around magic.
Not even the scar, Harry's most recognizable trait, was left.
Fact remains, without the snowy owl and glasses Delilah looked so completely different from Harry that she was sure she could fool everyone not yet in the know.
So that's everyone but Astoria.
"Right, so I'll stay for a while at the Leaky, send Astoria a letter and see what happens from there." with a nod and a clear way forward, Delilah held her wand out, signaling for the Knight Bus to come pick her up.
She got on board, taking a seat in the back row and watching the world go by through the window.
It wasn't long before she arrived at the Leaky Cauldron, the inn where the magical community of London spent their evenings.
It wasn't hard to rent a room. Tom, the innkeeper, was a friendly (if somewhat odd) fellow, never asked too many questions and provided excellent service to his customers.
For the somewhat low price of 2 galleons Delilah had shelter and two meals a day, so she payed for a whole two months in advance.
She happily ate dinner even though it was truly late at night and went to her temporary room. Opening the window, she braced herself for the avian missile that flew straight into her arms.
"Hi there, girl." She said, petting the owl.
The owl hooted merrily, rubbing her head in Delilah's
"We are free, girl. At least for this year we are free…"
She closed the window and laid down on the bed, all the troubles and stress forgotten for now.
