The food on the table
appeared. There was roast beef, roast
chicken, corn, peas, mashed potatoes, stuffing, dinner rolls and cherry
turnovers. Harry and Ron wasted no time
filling their plates, but Severus immediately summoned a house elf.
“Yes sir, Master Snape, what
can Larf get for you?” asked a small, but plump house elf.
“Miss Granger needs a salad,
whole wheat dinner rolls, and steamed broccoli,” Severus told the elf.
“Oh, Miss Granger. It is a pleasure to have you back with us!”
squeaked the elf before leaving. Within
minutes, he reappeared and placed the food in front of her and left again.
Hermione looked at the food
Severus ordered. She looked at Severus
and smiled. “How did you know that I
was wanting something healthier to eat?”
“My dear, we have lived
together for two years. I know
everything there is about you,” he said in a silky voice. She nodded and began to eat her food. They ate in silence for a while, no one sure
about what to say.
Ron finally broke the
silence, “Hermione, I think you should spend the day with Harry and myself
tomorrow.”
“I believe you have class
tomorrow Mister Weasley,” hissed Severus.
“Well then, how about after
class. You could come to the university
and spend some time with us,” added Ron.
“I think Hermione should stay
here at Hogwarts, at least until she feels more comfortable with her
surroundings,” said Severus, who was giving a lethal scowl to Ron. Severus was quite aware of the attraction he
had on his fiancée and was not about to let her out of his sight.
“No, I believe that I will spend
the afternoon with you and Harry,” said Hermione. “I need to start experiencing my life so I can at least have some
idea of what my life is like.” As much
as Severus wanted to forbid her from going, he reluctantly agreed.
When dinner finally ended, it
was late. Harry, Ron and Severus all
saw Hermione to her rooms and said goodnight.
The three men looked sternly at each other before parting.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Hermione looked around the
room hoping something would look familiar, but nothing. She searched around and found her
nightgowns. Well, they weren’t really
nightgowns, but lingerie. She blushed,
knowing she must have worn them for Severus.
Looking further into the drawer, she found a white, silk nightgown. Putting it on, she crawled into bed. She was exhausted and fell asleep
immediately.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Ron and Harry Apparated back
to their dorm room. “Tomorrow when
Hermione comes to visit, she will be shown the real Snape,” hissed Ron.
Harry smiled. “What’s the plan?”
“Get out your Pensieve. We have a few memories to record,” grinned
Ron.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Severus walked back to
Hermione’s door, raised his hand to knock, but lowered it. His heart ached, knowing the only woman he
would ever love did not remember him.
He had already spent hours researching the memory potion she had been
brewing at the time of the accident and knew she would most likely never regain
her memory with the exception of a few flashbacks. It had been a miracle that he had even found love the first time,
but now he would have to make her fall in love with him all over again. ‘Two miracles in one life time,’ he thought,
‘impossible.’ He turned and walked back
to the dungeons.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The next day, Hermione woke
up and felt refreshed. She fully
remembered the details of the day before.
She had a good cry when remembering about being told of her parents’
deaths. Taking a shower and getting
dressed, she headed down to the staff room again, assuming breakfast would be
held in there.
When she walked in, Severus was
waiting for her.
“Good morning Hermione,” he
said softly yet his expression was hard.
“Good morning Severus,” she
said, taking a sit next to him.
“Are you hungry?” he asked,
looking at the table full of eggs, sausages, potatoes, fruit, pastries, and pancakes.
“Actually, I am just wanting
some - ”
“Fruit,” he finished her
sentence while he began to serve her some freshly cut up peaches, bananas, and
strawberries.
“Thank you Severus,” she
smiled. She looked into his eyes again
and saw the warmth and concern he felt for her. She wished she could return his feelings, but still, she could
remember nothing. Her heart continued
to burst with joy when she looked at him.
“Hermione, do you have plans
for today?”
“No. Did you want to do something?”
“I have classes to teach
today. I have already missed a week of
teaching, but because Albus, himself took over my classes, I am afraid that I
need to go see the damage he may have caused,” he said sternly.
“Isn’t he capable of teaching
potions?”
“He is, but he tends to
easier on the students than I. I have a
high expectation level in all of my classes and I need the students to
understand that my expectation level is still there.” He took a sip of his tea and continued. “I would love for you to join me. Maybe being back in the classroom would help you remember
something,” his voice was hopeful.
“Yes, I would like
that.” She smiled at him and then
finished her breakfast.
Hermione sat is cls classes
all day. She was intrigued by how his
students were so attentive and respectful.
She was also impressed with his knowledge of potions and how graceful he
was when preparing ingredients and brewing a potion. All of the questions he asked of his students, she was able to
answer, even if she couldn’t remember where or when she had learned about
them.
After his last class, Severus
walked Hermione back to her rooms. She
wanted to freshen up before Harry and Ron came to get her.
“How long are you planning to
stay with Mister Potter and Mister Weasley?” he asked. She could hear the anger in his voice, but
decided to ignore it. After all, she
had heard this same tone when as ias in the classroom and just accepted it as
being a part of him.
“I don’t know. I am hoping to be back by dinner,” she said,
hoping he was okay with that.
“I will see you at
dinner.” He bowed his head and
left. She watched him leave with his
robes billowing behind him. He looked
as though he were gliding down the hall.
Harry and Ron showed up five
minutes later and they Apparated to the University with her. They took her to their dorm room and had her
sit on the couch.
“Hermione, Harry and I have
done something special for you. We have
collected our memories in a Pensieve so you can experience them.” Harry brought out the Pensieve and placed it
on the table in front of the couch.
She smiled. “This is perfect. Now I will be able to experience our friendship and learn more
about you two.”
Hermione leaned forward
and placed her face into the memories.
At once, she was spinning and swirling until she found herself in the
middle of the Great Hall. She began to
relive their memories from her being sorted into Gryffindor to fighting the
troll. She experienced her years at
Hogwarts until the end of her seventh year.
She realized her friendship with Harry and Ron was very special
indeed.
Just when she thought the
memories were over, a new memory began.
This one was of Severus. It was
her thirdr atr at Hogwarts and she was in the DADA class that he was teaching. She saw herself trying to explain which
chapter the class was on, but Severus would not listen. She couldn’t believe the hatred in his voice
and they way he looked at her. It was
as ifwishwished her dead. Turning her
attention back to him, the memories came faster and faster, all with him
saying, ‘Little Miss Know It All and Stupid Little Girl.’ Her teeth were huge in her fourth year and
he said, ‘I don’t see a difference.’
Harry and Ron had pulled
every memory they could think of to show them Snape was no good for her. They included the memories that showed them
suspecting Snape of trying to kill Harry.
Harry even pulled some memories from a Dark Revel he had been forced to
attend when abducted in his sixth year.
He showed the memories of Snape participating in the brutal assault of
several young Muggle women and how he tortured other wizards who betrayed the
Dark Lord. She then saw the memory of
Severus explaining his part in her parents’ death. He kept saying he couldn’t prevent it.
When the memories ended, Hermione
pulled her face from the Pensieve and sat up.
Tears were running down her face and she was sobbing. Harry suddenly felt ill, realizing what he
had done, but Ron was beaming with pride.
“Hermione,” said Harry
softly, “Are you okay?”
“I want to leave,” she said,
standing up. “I need to go.” Before Harry and Ron could say a thing, she
Apparated.
“Ron, we shouldn’t have done
that.”
“Why not? Were you going to let her fall in love with
him again?”
“No, I don’t want that to
happen, but I have never seen her so upset.”
“She’s upset because she just
realized what an evil git she was engaged to.”
~*~*~*~*~*~
Severus waited for Hermione
at dinner, but she never showed up. He
was worried, so he Apparated to Harry and Ron’s dorm. It was empty, but the Pensieve was still there. Reluctantly, he looked into it. He was able to skim it and finally found
what he had suspected. Pulling back, he
Apparated back to Hogwarts.
His stomach turned. Hermione saw that Pensieve and he knew had
had lost her forever. He quickly made
his way to the only solitude he had, the highest tower at Hogwarts.
Opening the door, he stepped
onto the terrace. Immediately he sensed
this was a bad idea because this was the place him and Hermione had spent most
of their time alone. It was full of
enchanted trees andwerswers that remained in bloom year round. There was an open view of the snow-capped
mountains.
He slowly walked further onto
the terrace when he heard quiet sobs.
His heart about stopped, realizing it was Hermione. Taking a deep breath, he let it out ever so
slowly. He had to find the right words,
but after what she just saw, he might as well just died.
“Hermione,” he said
softly. She jumped at his voice and
curled her knees to her chest as she sat on the ground. “Hermione, I’m sorry.” But the way she looked at him made him
realized his defeat. He saw fear in her
eyes. “I know what you saw and I cannot
deny those things happening. You and I
have come a long way since then. If you
notice, none of those things happened when you and I were together.” She buried her head in her arms, but he
still continued to talk. “I love you
Hermione and believe me, you love me - loved me,” his words trailed off.
She raised her head and
glared at him. “Just get away from me!”
she spat. Quickly standip, sp, she left
the terrace. Sus wus wanted to follow
her, but knew it would only make things worse.
