LIGHT
Hermione hesitated outside of her door before steeling her shoulders and walking in. She was not
surprised to see that Harry was sleeping deeply. A frown marred his face and he tossed and turned in
her bed.
Walking up to his side she watched as her friend became increasingly agitated in his sleep. She
reached out and gently pushed his hair out of his face and a wave of tenderness for the hurting boy in
front of her washed over her. When would he ever get a break?
“Oh Harry. This will make everything that you have to do so much harder to deal with.” She
whispered to her friend. There was nothing that she could do to make anything that he was going to
go through any easier.
Pulling a chair closer to the bed she sat down and watched him sleep. After a hour of watching him
toss and turn it was apparent to her that he was having a nightmare. She knew this was not like any
of the other ones that he’d had before and her thoughts were confirmed when he suddenly sat up and
reached out a hand. He attempted to grasp something and when his hand closed around whatever it
was he had reached for her breath stopped at the look on his face.
It was a look of pure joy and love. And when he fell back to the bed he whispered out a name and
that name was ‘Draco’.
Smiling to herself Hermione made a vow to herself to help the two become closer than ever and she
had a feeling that the events of the day had already set in motion a plan of action for her to follow. A
simple spell would tell her if her suspicions were correct.
Taking out her wand she performed the spell she had read about during her research. Her suspicions
were confirmed when a red glow appeared around Harry. The red glow indicated a heart bond. She
was completely surprised when the glow changed from red to gold then to green. Oh My God, she
thought to herself, this is great!
Not only did Harry have a heart bond but a soul bond as well. And she knew just the person that that
bond would be with.
Her elation died as she realized once again the trouble that this would cause. Neither boy would
accept it, not without some convincing. Hermione sat down to contrive a plan that would get them to
work together before the bond was complete. If they could become friends before then, they would
be able to accept what was going to happen a lot quicker than if they still hated each other. Though
she doubted that they had ever really hated each other.
She was startled out of her plans by Harry hoarsely calling out. He was thrashing in the bed again
and Hermione was afraid that he was going to hurt himself. Getting up she went to shake him
awake.
“Harry wake up.” She shouted at him but he didn’t respond. He was so far into his dream that he
could not hear her. Muttering a spell she conjured a bucket of ice cold water and upended it on
Harry’s head. Harry shot up from the bed sputtering though not fully awake.
“Bloody Hell Hermione! Trying to freeze a man’s jewels off!” Harry yelled at his smirking friend.
“Harry James Potter!,” Hermione screeched. “How dare you talk to me that way. I was only trying
to wake you up.” Hermione crossed her arms in front of her chest and glared at him.
“No other way to do it but with ice cold water was there?” Harry asked with a raised brow trying to
wipe the water running down his face.
Hermione started giggling at the look Harry was giving her. He looked like a drowned rat. “You
look like a drowned rat.” She said in between giggles.
“And whose fault is that?”
“Yours.”
“Mine!”
“Yes.”
“How?”
“Just is.” Hermione said with a shrug of her shoulders.
Harry stared at her before slowly advancing on his best friend with a look in his eyes that should
have warned her to run. And it would have if she had been looking.
Harry was inches from her when Hermione noticed that he was close. Glancing at him she gave a
squeak and turned to run but was not fast enough. She was caught seconds later and a murmured
charm was heard and she felt the first splashes of the extremely cold water that Harry had conjured
hit her neck.
Harry had charmed the bucket to slowly pour the water down the back of her neck!
“Now whose fault did you say it was?” Harry laughing voice came from behind her.
“Uncle!” Hermione cried trying to wiggle out of his grasp.
Harry let her go. They both looked at each other before bursting into laughter.
“Thanks, I needed that.” Harry said in between gasps for air.
Hermione smiled at him. This was the first time in weeks that Harry had laughed. She was glad that
she had been here to see it. The laughter faded from her face as she closely watched Harry. The
laughter never reached his eyes.
“Oh Harry,” she murmured.
The last vestiges of laughter quickly left his face with her words. And once again the cold, unfeeling
mask was in its place.
“Don’t.” Harry whispered.
Hermione watched as the new Harry emerged from the laughter and her heart hurt from it. Her
friend was gone and in his place stood someone she wasn’t sure she wanted to know.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked him and watched as the fear flared in his eyes before vanishing
back into the cold recesses.
“Ron told you.” Harry stated in a cold voice.
“No, Ron did not tell me Harry.” Hermione replied. She did not want Harry mad at her but she
would not let Ron take the blame for something he didn’t do.
“Then how do you know?” Harry asked quietly.
“Please Harry, as if I wouldn’t have a listening charm on my room.” Hermione gave a good
impression of a smirk before she gave into a grin.
Harry gave her a weird look before grinning back and shaking his head replied, “Of course you
wouldn’t. After all, why shouldn’t the Head Girl have a listening charm on her room of all places?”
Harry chuckled at Hermione's look of consternation and then muttered the charm to dry his clothes.
He raised his eyebrow at her and then turned to leave the room not even offering to dry her clothes.
He walked to the dorm room and getting his invisibility cloak decided to take a walk.

As he pulled his hand back from the shake Ron felt his face go red. He had no idea what to do now.
He looked into the knowing eyes of his once enemy and then chuckled. It didn’t matter anymore.
The fighting was gone and awkward moments like these were okay.
Draco glanced at Pansy and saw her watching Ron. He was totally amazed at her interest in the
poor, damn Draco thought to himself, can’t call him that anymore, in the Weasel. Well let’s just say
that her discomfort over the next few days will be interesting. As if she understood his thoughts
Pansy’s face went red. But she never said anything, to do so would only make the teasing worse, this
she knew.
“I’m tired. Leave.” Draco waved his hand at them imperiously.
“Night Draco,” Pansy said quickly taking the hint. She leaned down to give him kiss on the cheek
and turning to Ron motioned for him to go first.
Ron shook his head and motioned for her to go first.
“For Pete’s Sake,” Draco cried out, “just leave will you!”
Ron held out his arm to Pansy and with a regal toss of her head she took it and the two teens exited
the room in a manner fit for royalty. Draco chuckled at that.
He yawned and decided to get some sleep.
