Chapter 20 Looking for Effy
“Severus, my magic is different because of who I am, what I am, well what I am descended from anyway. That night when I came running down the hills like a bat from hell, Shannon took me to a place and had me lie down on this altar. Then she said an incantation and he came.”
“Who came?”
“The Original, my forefather apparently, I think all witches and wizards are descended from him but I am the closest. I don’t know how or why because I don’t know who my parents were. Anyway, I am the last direct descendant. That’s why I have the stone and the wand. But they’re not really stones, Severus.”
“I know. They are the eyes of the Original. I also know that you carry the wand of bloods, and what it is made from.”
“That’s why my magic is different. It sounds like I’m showing off but I’m not. I carry every type of magic that exists. If it can be done, I can do it, whether it’s dark, blood, elemental, earth, whatever. And I can do it much more powerfully then anyone else.”
“I see, but why did you not display any magical power when you were held in that cell for so long?” I can understand that you would be too weak as the years went by, but early on when you were first taken, I would have thought you would have shown some kind of involuntary magic.”
“I don’t know Severus. I can’t remember that far back. I wish I could.”
He noticed the look in her eyes before she turned and stared at the fire, a lost, lonely, despairing look.
“What is it Sky? What are you thinking?”
“Nothing. It isn’t important.” She told him softly.
“It is important. Everything about you is important to me. And whatever just went through your mind is clearly causing you distress so please, tell me what is troubling you. I may be able to help.”
“It’s silly. I just wonder sometimes, who my parents are. Why I was left at that place? Sometimes I remember things, not proper things but I’ll see or hear something that seems familiar and I don’t know why. I try to remember but it’s so long ago and I can’t. I can’t remember. I told you it was silly.”
Severus took hold of her hands, his thumbs rubbing small circles on the backs of her fingers. “Sky it is not silly. You are not silly. It is only natural that you would want to know these things like who your parents are. I would in your situation. Maybe Albus has managed to find something out. We can ask him later. How does that sound?”
She nodded. “We can ask him but I have a feeling that he won’t know anything. All he had was that letter telling him where to find me. It wasn’t even signed.”
“No it wasn’t. But often it is possible to trace the sender of an anonymous missive with a little magical help of course. Tell me about your meeting with your ancestor. If I remember correctly, you seemed in rather a hurry to get home.”
Sky shuddered when she thought of that night. “I can’t Severus. It was too …I’ll show you. But I don’t want to talk about it after. I try not to think about it.”
“Very well.” He took out his wand, ready to say Legillimen’s.
“You don’t need to do that Severus. Just let me show you.”
He was about to ask her how when suddenly he could see her clearly. It was like being in a pensive. The old elf he’d seen that night was in the living room with Sky and the portrait of Rowena. He listened and watched as Shannon ordered the girl to go and change into the white robe, not allowing her to wear anything under it. He saw her following the elf over the hills and arriving at the altar, laying down and Shannon calling on the Original. He saw and felt her terror when it arrived and towered over her. It was grotesque. So that was what they all originated from? When it opened her robe, exposing her body and its phallus became erect he felt sick. Severus actually jumped from his seat when the Original put that obscene thing at her entrance. If he had driven that into her, it would have killed her.
“Dear gods.” he muttered. “No wonder she preferred to face me, with the threat of that behind her.”
Then the creature lowered himself over her, Severus’ breath caught in his throat until Shannon told it to bless her and nothing more.
Severus stepped closer to listen as the Original spoke its blessing after kissing the stone at her throat. He saw it disappear and the elf made off and told Sky to follow. The damned elf just left her.
Then he saw himself, as Sky saw him that night when she came flying down the hill towards him. He saw himself waiting for her. Felt her terror at going back and her terror at meeting him. She’d known what he was going to do to her the same as he knew. At that moment, he had every intention of fucking her against her will. But something changed in him that night; something inside of him. Sky closed off the vision. There was no need to show him more.
“Sky, that night, you knew what I planned to do. Yet you still came to me. I know you were afraid of going back, but why did you not fight me like you did the time before?”
“Because I had no fight left in me, Severus. And because I hoped maybe you would leave me alone once you had taken what you wanted. But tell me something, Severus. I gave up, told you to take what you wanted. But you didn’t, why?”
He swallowed hard, averting his own eyes now. “Because … something changed in me that night, Sky. Don’t ask me what, I don’t know. But the desire to hurt you was gone. I still wanted you, desired you, but I wanted you to give yourself to me because you wished it, not because you felt there was no other option.”
“And now?”
“Now I want you more than life itself. Sky, I am not a man given to silly shows of sentimentality. I never thought I would one day wish to tie myself to one woman; feel the need to cherish someone above all others. But you, you bring out all of those things in me. Believe me I fought hard against those feelings. But no more. I lo … care for you deeply. I want no other.”
She knew what he was about to say. Although she closed him off from her mind, she did not close herself off from his. Now she did, unsure whether he stopped himself from saying he loved her because he truly didn’t, or because it was a word he was not yet ready to say; what she did know, was that it turned her on, immensely.
“Show me, Severus. Show me how you really feel.” Taking his hand she pulled him from the sofa and led him to the bedroom. Severus barely had time to close the door when Sky snapped her fingers once more and they were both naked.
“You really will have to show me how to do that one.” He told her huskily as he picked her up and threw her unceremoniously on the bed. Before she got chance to reply, he pounced on top of her, pinning her down with his body. His mouth and hands went to work immediately, touching, stroking, kissing, nibbling and licking. The way she dragged him into the bedroom aroused him greatly and he wanted to be inside her, now. His hand moved between her legs and his fingers delved into her core, testing her wetness to see if she was ready. When he brought it away, his palm was soaked with her juices. Bringing it to his mouth, he ran his tongue from wrist to fingertips; lapping up her taste as she watched, her eyes glittering. Sliding his arms under her knees, he lifted her legs, spreading her wide and rammed home. Severus let out a loud groan of pleasure while Sky keened and grasped his shoulders.
“Yes, more Severus, please.”
Severus drove into her like a man possessed, plunging and withdrawing only to plunge again; faster and faster, fucking her madly while she arched her back and met him thrust for thrust, both of them in a frenzy to gain that special bliss that came from two bodies working as one.
Severus could feel his own climax approaching fast, but he didn’t want to come before her.
“Come on Sky. Come for me. I cannot hold out much longer, you’re too tight for me to keep it in check. Oh gods, Sky come now.” he growled out as his balls tightened. He was going to come and he could not stop it now.
But his deep growling voice had the effect of bursting her bubble and she trembled as waves of pleasure flooded from her core, spreading through her whole being as Severus roared his release, flooding her with his come. He came so hard it was leaking out of her and covering her thighs and his lower belly along with her own emissions. It had been quick but intense and he collapsed, rolling to the side, taking her with him and holding her to him so tightly she couldn’t breathe. As they lay there panting, a house elf suddenly appeared next to the bed.
“I is bringing message for the Snape and his lady from the Headmaster.”
Severus and Sky both jumped, Sky trying desperately to pull the covers over herself. But they were lying on top of them and she was having no success. Severus sat up and slid to the side of the bed. Sky took the opportunity to scramble under the covers before turning to look at the elf.
It stood waiting, its ears drooped and arms by its side, as Severus read the missive the elf brought. There was something familiar about the elf though she couldn’t think why.
“Have I seen you before?” She asked it.
The elf raised its large brown eyes to her midnight blue ones. Just as the elf opened its mouth to speak Severus turned his attention back to it.
“Tell the Headmaster we shall see him in an hour.”
“Yes Sir. Effy will tells him right away.” The elf was gone in a wink as Sky stared at the empty spot it vacated.
“The Headmaster wishes to speak with …Sky. Are you alright?”
When Severus turned to speak to her, she seemed as though she were in another world. “Sky what is it? What is wrong?”
She blinked and looked at him, her eyes had a far away look in them.
“What?”
“You remembered something. What was it? As soon as you looked at that elf you went somewhere Sky. Tell me what you remember before it is gone.”
“I … I don’t know. Something, singing and … warm. Oh I don’t know Severus. It’s gone. It was just so strange. Who was that elf? Do you know?”
“No. I think it said its name was Effy or some such. I was not listening, but I intend to find out.”
Severus stood and went to find his clothes, thinking about Sky’s reaction to the elf. He wanted to know as soon as possible which one it was and bring it back here for questioning.
“Where are my clothes? I can’t find them.”
Sky came out of her musings and laughed. “Try your wardrobe. They’re cleaned and put away.”
He went to the wardrobe and found them. He knew they were the same clothes because his wand was still in the pocket of his robes. Pulling them out, he harrumphed.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” He gruffed.
“Yes there is. Why did you make that noise?”
“If you must know, I am a little envious of your abilities. Even the house elves cannot launder and return my clothes this quickly. And they are much cleaner then a simple scourgify would achieve.”
“Well you don’t need to sound so disappointed.”
“I am not disappointed. I just do not feel comfortable with the fact that you might be more powerful then me.” He peered at her from the corner of his eyes. “Shall we say it is a testosterone. thing.”
Sky laughed harder at his admission. “Right, well I have a female thing. I’m hungry.”
They were both laughing as they made their way out of the dungeons to see the Headmaster. Severus had difficulty schooling his face when the entered the main hall. It would not do to let the students see him appear happy.
Sky’s smile disappeared of its own accord once they turned out of the dungeon corridor. She felt safe in the dungeon, cut off from everything like in the wall. But here, she felt exposed and the students were all stopping to watch her and the Potions Master curiously. Severus gave them his best glare and they scattered, but did not leave. Instead, they stood in small groups, speculating about Sky. Who was she? Why was she here? What was she doing in Snape’s dungeon? Was she a new teacher or an exchange student?
Many of the seventh year students were definitely interested if she was a student. Sky didn’t know how attractive she was. She had a full rounded figure, a tiny waist. Her hips swayed sensuously as she walked. Her face was beautiful and her golden locks fell in soft shining waves down her back. The jeans and t-shirt she wore showing her curves to the full. Severus noticed the lusty looks from the boys and growled quietly.
Sky looked up at him startled when she heard him. “What’s the matter?”
He narrowed his eyes at her and leaned close, talking softly. “You are going to have to change the way you dress while you are here.”
“Why? What’s wrong with my clothes?”
“They are too revealing.”
She stopped and looked down at herself, puzzled as to what she was revealing. Then she looked around at the students. It was a weekend and quite a few of them were dressed similarly to herself.
“Well they’re wearing the same as me. I don’t understand.”
“I shall explain later. Come on. We have an appointment to keep.”
They reached the stone gargoyle that guarded the entrance to the Headmaster’s office. As soon as it saw them, it moved aside, revealing the spiral staircase. Severus placed a hand on the small of her back, gently urging her to go in front when she hesitated.
Sky had visited with the Headmaster many times. But she had the option of leaving when she chose, she had the upper hand. Now, it seemed different. Now she was living here she would have to abide by his rules.
As with the gargoyle, the office door opened as soon as they reached it.
Albus was already stood just inside waiting to greet them, Sky particularly.
“Sky. I am so glad you have decided to come back to us permanently. Severus, thank you for bringing her to us. Welcome. Please, sit down.” he motioned to the comfortable seats in front of the fireplace.
Severus waited for Sky to sit down before sitting on the chair next to her.
There was an uncomfortable silence for a minute or two and Severus decided to speak.
“Sky has spoken with the Founders, Headmaster. They are willing to speak with you if Sky is agreeable.”
“Oh that is wonderful. Do you have any objections to me seeing them my dear?” The old mans blue eyes twinkled as he looked at Sky.
“Yes. You can see them this evening. And look round the house too. That’s what you wanted wasn’t it?”
“Yes it is. I can hardly wait. Would you care for tea and cakes or do you prefer to wait for lunch?”
We’ll have the tea and cakes, Albus. Sky has worked up quite an appetite this morning.” He smirked as she went bright red.
“There was a lot of unpacking to do.” He added before letting out an “Oomph.” When she kicked his ankle.
If the Headmaster noticed, he said nothing, but his eyes twinkled even more merrily than before, which meant he probably knew exactly what had gone on in the dungeons.
“Albus?” Severus’ face was serious now. “The elf you used to send your message. Do you know which one it was? I thought I caught the name ‘Effy’ but I cannot be sure.”
“I have no idea, Severus. Why, is there a problem?”
“No, I would just like to speak with him or her that is all.”
Albus gave him a curious look and clapped his hands. A house elf appeared immediately.
“Yes Sir. You is wanting something?”
“Yes please, tea and cakes for three please but before you go, I would like you to tell me something. Do we have a house elf here by the name of Effy? Or perhaps something similar.”
“No Sir. Is no Effy at Hogwarts. Has never been an Effy that I is knowing of.”
Severus leaned towards the elf who looked terrified.
“Then maybe you could find out which of the elves was told to bring a message to my quarters about one hour ago. Then send them to my rooms and tell them to wait until I return.”
“Yes Sir. Nibs is doing it straight away Nibs is. And then I is bringing yous tea and cakes right away Sir.” The elf disappeared before Severus could say anything else. The Hogwarts house elves were scared of the Potions Master. He had a very bad temper.
“Is there something amiss, Severus? You seem very keen to find this particular elf.”
“Nothing amiss, Albus, just a few questions, nothing more. Tell me, have you had any success tracing the person who originally wrote and informed you as to the whereabouts of Sky?”
The tea and cakes appeared and the elf disappeared as soon as the tray was set on the table.
“Unfortunately not. I have tried every spell I can think of. But all to no avail.”
“Do you still have the letter?”
Both men looked at Sky. “I do yes. But it is of no use to you.”
“Maybe. Maybe not. I would like to find out for myself though.”
“Very well.” Albus said. “But I doubt you will have any more luck then I have my dear.”
Albus went to his desk and opened a drawer, removing the note and bringing it to her. “I hope you have more success with it then I did.”
“Thanks.”
As soon as Sky took hold of the piece of parchment, the stone around her neck turned a dark grey colour. She didn’t notice it but Severus did.
Albus followed his line of sight and noticed it too. As soon as she put it in her pocket, the stone lightened again, although not quite the same colour it held when they arrived in the office.
“What’s wrong?” Sky asked them when she noticed them looking at her strangely.
“Your stone became very dark when you held that missive, Sky. Perhaps I should hold on to it for now.”
“Is it still dark?”
“No but …”
“It’s alright then Severus. It’s just the stones way of protecting me. Can we go see if that elf has gone to your rooms yet? Unless you wanted to discuss something else Headmaster?”
“Er no. No.” Albus was a bit flabbergasted at being dismissed. Normally, he was the one to end conversations, especially in his own office.
”See you later then. And thanks for the tea.” Sky told him pleasantly and headed for the nearest door.
Severus jumped up and grabbed her arm after giving the Headmaster a slightly apologetic look.
“Sky.” He indicated the door she was about to go through. “That is the Headmaster’s private rooms. You cannot go through there.”
“Sorry, I don’t intend to encroach on your privacy, Sir. I just want to get to the dungeons quickly.” Pulling open the door, she stepped through, leaving it open behind her.
Albus rose got up from his chair. “Severus did she just …?”
“Do not worry Albus. She is in our rooms, not yours.” The Potions Master smirked. “See for yourself.”
Albus peeked round the door and saw Severus’ study. “How on earth does she do that?”
“Your guess is as good as mine. Though the Founders have told her that she does have full run of the castle. Apparently no area of Hogwarts is closed to her. I think she just takes the nearest door to wherever she wishes to be. I am sure the Founders will explain it more fully this evening.”
“Yes. Yes. I’ll see you later then Severus.”
The Headmaster was deep in thought now and Severus stepped through to his office, closing the door behind him. After a quick sweep of the room and finding it empty he moved through to the bedroom. There he found Sky, sitting on the couch with an astonished expression on her face. On one of the armchairs in front of her was an elf. Severus was pretty certain it was the elf they were looking for.
