AN: Wow, have I been swamped. Now, I've promised to help a friend with a story he's working on, so I'll be even more irresponsible here. Just kidding, I'll do my best to continue. Here's chap 20, and the world continues to spin for Harry and Draco.
unneeded: I'm still making those efforts, but they don't have to same effect when their so spaced out, it seems. I'll try to be more diligent from here on. And on to the rescue, again!
Chapter Twenty: Blaise'n to the rescue
"We need your help." Draco announced and Zabini's eyes showed momentary interest.
"My help? I'm not known to be the helpful kind, am I?" Blaise responded.
"This is about Snape." Draco snapped and Zabini stiffened.
"He's dead. How does he need us now?"
"He's dead, but his son is not. His son needs us. The boy is in the custody of some unsavory characters that mean him harm. As a Slytherin, you should be amenable to aiding in the salvation of your house's head's child."
"Snape had a son? Severus Snape?" Blaise asked and Harry smiled.
"He had twins. A boy and a girl. His daughter is at my house, with her mother. It's his son we need to save."
"Snape had children." Blaise said this in an incredulous tone and Harry smiled harder.
"He was human. He did his best to hide it, during the last year, but yes, he did. Cho explained everything."
"Cho? The Ravenclaw girl? Okay, that fills in some gaps. He was always protecting her, when the Carrows were torturing and terrorizing. She was Snape's, huh? Okay, so what is the plan, Malfoy?" Blaise leaned forward and the three set to work going over the details. Blaise listened until they finished, then called his personal elves. "Fenrow, Blesta! Come here, now!" and they popped in.
"We should have them come to Grimmauld and meet Kreacher. He knows the details of the house and where we need to make our distraction."
"When the five wizards are in the gardens, where Harry Potter's friends will make their distractions, elves will go into the manor. There are special wards that will be making it that elves cannot apparate in, but they do not ward small windows in basement and elves can go there. We will get boy of Dark Potion teacher and bring out. Wizards must be kept in gardens for fifteen minutes, no less, or may be too dangerous to bring child out." Kreacher was as distinct in this as Harry had ever heard him, and the other humans listened with interest, while the elves sat huddled against the wall, watching for their masters to show disapproval. Lucius had yet to arrive, but Lottie and Beau were used to taking orders from Master Draco, so their attention was on him. He nodded gravely and they turned back to the older elf and gave him their complete attention.
"Winky will wait on edge of garden, to tell wizard friends that is clear, but not go into manor. Too dangerous for baby elf, so stay out!" Kreacher gave her a scathing look that Harry was sure would have her cowering, but she turned to Harry and smiled.
"Kreacher is strong, yes Harry Potter?" she said and he smiled back.
"He's very strong. He'll be a great father." he whispered to her, none to silently, and the old elf snorted their way.
"When Winky gives word, all apparate home, to houses where live, not Black Family home. Only elf carrying Snape Boy will come here. Must give false leads to those who may follow. Roldo will carry Snape baby to Black home, take trip through Godric's Hollow to send on false trail."
"Why Godric's Hollow?" Harry asked and others mumbled their need to know as well.
"Snape's first love in Godric's Hollow. Is symbolic. Message clear that baby is not Dark Lord's. Dark Lord not welcome in Godric's Hollow, not even in child from Dark Lord." Kreacher's glare lit on Ron, where he and Hermione sat with Timmy her lap. Harry held his breath until the elf continued. "Snape Baby will not stay in Godric's Hollow, but will pass through and leave a faint trail. Then come here to Witch Mother." Kreacher sat down to tell them all he was finished. Now the humans would plan their strategy to distract the kidnappers long enough for the elves to do what they needed.
The mission would take place the following evening.
"But, Ron. What if we had gone there? What would have happened to him in that place?" She sobbed into his shirt.
"We're not going to Godric's Hollow, so it's not a problem. He's not Riddle's son, anymore. We've got him and we'll protect him. Don't worry about things that aren't going to happen. We'll warn him, if we need to, when he's old enough to need it. Now, we need to get some sleep. Mum will watch him, while we go and save that other baby boy. Remember, Cho needs us."
Around the corner of the hallway, Blaise stood with Draco and watched them go. "So, that's you-know-who's baby?" Blaise asked.
"No. That's my cousin, the child of Bellatrix, and now it's Weasley and Granger's, and that's all. We will never speak of that crazy man again, understood? You can't even think about evil like that without it manifesting. Blaise, he's just a baby, so don't curse him, okay?"
"Your cousin? And he's being raised by Granger? Okay, I got it." Blaise shrugged and followed Draco to the room that he would be using for the night. They parted at the door and Draco continued on to his and Harry's bedroom
"Everyone is settled and ready for Operation Potions Master. How are you holding up?"
"Drake, he died trying to protect me. He told Voldemort that he was the one who controlled the Elder wand, to protect you, and convinced Voldemort to get it, knowing that it wouldn't work for him. He died for us, don't you see? We have to save little Severus, and not just to get him out of our dreams!"
"I agree with you. I'm in this with you, and we are going to do what we have to, don't worry, okay?"
"I know. I'm just worried."
"Then stop. Nothing can be solved by worrying about it."
"What about us? What about our child?" Harry asked from the bed and Draco slid onto it, sitting in front of his lover and holding his hands.
"What are you talking about?"
"That spell. The one that got us together. What about that child? It doesn't deserve what is happening to it, any more than Severus does. We can't abandon it, Drake. We can't."
"Okay. So, it's what, about seven months along? We find out who is carrying it, and we go from there. How's that sound?"
"Good. It sounds good. I couldn't have slept if we didn't do something, Drake. I swear it."
"Then, we have a plan. We'll find out how many witches are pregnant and seven months along, and we wait to have the test done at birth. It's all we can do. Is it going to be enough for you, Harry Potter?" Draco slid under the covers and spooned up to his lover.
"No, but I can handle it for now. There is one thing I may need."
"Oh?" Draco asked.
"Yep. I need it real badly, too." Harry pulled Draco's hand closer and pushed it into the front of his boxers, cupping it over his erection.
"Hmmm, you do need this. I guess I had better take care of it, right away. If I don't, you'll never get any rest."
She walked through the deserted streets, her hand held over the opening of the bag, just in case she needed it, and her eyes on the buildings and alleyways that she passed. It was not a long walk, and the moon was large in the night sky. She was soon climbing the stairs and reaching for the handle to the dorm entrance. Quickly, she cast a disillusionment that gave her the features of a college boy and disquised her clothing to match. She stepped up to the glass that separated her from the young man that was on duty in the foyer. "I'm looking for Dudley Dursman, some people call him Duke?" she asked and the boy looked up.
"Duke? Yeah, he lives here. Hang on, I'll call him down. Who should I say is here?"
"Tell him it's his cousin, Ha - Hammond." Hannah wasn't sure if it would work, but she suspected that this boy had met Harry, in the past. She stood aside and waited until the sound of feet could be heard on the stairs, thundering down to her level.
"Hammond?" Duke said as he arrived and looked her over.
"Yeah, hey Duke. Bet you weren't expecting me. I know I've never come to the dorm before, but I wanted to surprise you. I've only got a couple of hours, since I left Ryan with a sitter. You know my brother, always into things, so I don't want to leave him for too long." She was babbling, and Duke looked lost.
"Come on up, Hammond. The rest of the guys are out, so we'll have the place to ourselves." Duke turned aside and gestured up the stairs and Hannah hurried forward. When they were out of hearing from the entry he stopped her and said, "So, who are you, really? You know I only have one cousin, and he isn't likely to show up without owling me, first. You're a wizard, I'll bet, or a . . witch. I noticed your features are a little fuzzy, like when Harry does those illusion things."
Hannah dispelled herself and rolled her eyes. "Most muggles can't see through disillusions, even ones as weak as mine. Only you." she said and he hugged her. "Duke, I just wanted to see you, I'm sorry if I didn't . . . wait, did you say owl?"
"Yeah, he owls me, and I owl him back. I've got my own, you know."
"No, I didn't. I could have owled you, of course. I never even thought. Okay, so that solves things for next time. I'll just owl you, and you can meet me, and then . . ."
"There's gonna be a next time?" Duke asked.
Hannah sighed and put her hands on his cheeks, leaning close to initiate a sweet kiss. "Yes, you idiot muggle. I plan to visit you a lot. Now, where is this room that we have to ourselves for some time?"
Duke grinned and pulled her along. "Right this way, Hammond." he said with enthusiasm.
Draco was waiting for Blaise to give the signal, as his elf was closest to the northern border of the wards where he could see when the attack began, and Hermione was standing nearby, holding on to a small blue baby shirt that she had brought with for some reason. He found himself staring at it, until he heard Blaise call out, "Now. Send the fog." and the battle began.
As the fog rolled in, Harry shot a firework at the wards, watching as it erupted in bright pink sparks and smoked a luminescent blue color. Ron's was yellow sparks, with green slime that ran down the edges of the wards, showing that they were shaped rather like a big cube over the house. The sparks joined with Harry's and became a huge caterpillar, sliming its path as the smoke rose from its nostrils and it roared like a lion, more than a dragon. George turned to see them gawking and smirked at them, "That was Fred's idea, we almost sent it after Umbridge, but the dragon was more dramatic. What you think?"
Harry was speechless, but Ron only said, "Brilliant!"
Meanwhile, Lucius and his wife had begun their assault, attacking the point where the wards would be the weakest, near the corner of the cube, at the farthest western point and directly outside near the gardens. They had nearly punched through, when five men rushed out and began to volley their attacks with counter spells. Lucius smiled and turned to Arthur. "Your move, Weasley. What have you got?"
"Just you watch, Malfoy. I may not be a rich pure-bred, like yerself, but I did get some pretty good NEWT scores." And the red-haired man began to send curses and hexes at the point where the two blond's had cracked the house's defenses.
"Keep Kreacher safe, for Winky and baby elf." she said before taking her position. The old elf nodded and turned to head for the window where the other five elves waited.
"Go. Do as we planned. Bring out baby, be careful." his last words were for Roldo, who had the hardest part to play. Some babies were not comfortable with elves that they didn't know, and then there were the elves that belonged to the Flints and Parkinsons. He had taken them into account, but didn't know how far they would go to protect a child that their owners were afraid of. Most would pretend not to see, then make themselves scarce when the wizards discovered what had happened.
"I get baby. Kreacher not worry about Roldo." the Malfoy elf said with a curt nod of his head. Kreacher recognized the move from one that Dobby had often made while he was in the kitchens of Hogwarts with the old elf and Winky. He nodded back and watched as the five elves disappeared into the open window. He followed sedately, keeping a distance to watch for interference from the rear. They scurried through the house, finding no opposition on their path.
The baby was kept in a high bedroom, on the fourth floor of the manor, and the room had been carefully secured with warding spells and hexes. These were all intended to keep out witches and wizards, but did not interfere with the comings and goings of house elves, most likely to allow the creatures to care for the boy. Kreacher arrived just as Roldo was about to apparate inside. "Wait. I go first, see if there is trap. You count to ten, by elf numbers and then follow. We get boy, then we get out." he quickly popped out, landing neatly on a patch of carpet inside of the room.
The crib was set in the center of the room, surrounded by runes and candles, their flames flickering in an unseen breeze that could not have come from the rooms only window, for it was closed tightly and warded with strong spells. Kreacher looked around, not liking the way the room felt and worried about that breeze. He took one step forward and found himself bound by a freezing spell that was keeping him from moving even to breathe through his own lungs. His eyes began to water with the lack of oxygen and his heart pounded furiously, as if trying to break free of the chest that was tight around it. Kreacher began to lose consciousness.
Dum dum dum. Cliffhanger!
