XXXHPDMXXX Chapter Twenty XXXHPDMXXX
Unaware of the event unfolding on the other side of the castle Harry fretted for his future. His thoughts spun in a rapid and destructive cycle.
'Snape already used Legilimency on me, he'll do it again if my answers don't satisfy him. Oh why did he have to notice now? It's not as if it matters, I'm free of them now. He's only bringing up unpleasant thoughts.'
'And what if he tells? He's always known what a freak I am. I know that's why he always treated me as such, but what if he tells others? What if he tells Draco? Draco already wont touch me, and he hasn't even seen what a monster I am, with fangs and inhuman eyes. If he knew I was a freak as well he'd never touch me and I cannot live without him, not now.'
'These monster eyes see his radiance like never before. His smell consumes my senses and his taste still lingers on my tongue. How can I take the chance of Snape turning him from me before we've even bonded. It's to horrible to consider. I'd return to the Dursleys' before I'd let that happen. But if I don't go to Snape it will confirm his suspicions. I know he'll tell others if I disobey him. He said as much and Snape is nothing if not a man of his word.' thought Harry bitterly.
He glanced up from his musings as the dormitory door opened. A face peeked inside.
“Ah Potter, you're awake.” whispered Pansy. “Have you seen Millicent? She went out to meet Dumbledore but should have been back by now.”
Harry, glad of the interruption from his thoughts, replied enthusiastically at the thought of another late night adventure. “ I haven't seen her, but if you'll let me get my cloak we can search the halls.”
Still unsure of what to make of the boy her friend so dearly loved, Pansy replied uncertainly. “What if we get seen?” Harry pulled his invisibility cloak from his trunk and wrapped it his shoulders.
“Come on, we're both small so we should fit.”
Pansy recognized the cloth almost instantly. “Dammit.”
“What?” asked Harry.
“I owe Blaise a Galleon. I never should have bet on a potion. Not with your grades anyway.”
“Hey, my potion grade's already much better this year and I've only had a week to work on it.”
Pansy laughed and approached Harry, still speaking softly to avoid waking the others. “At least my guess wasn't as bad as Draco's,” she said, slipping the cloak over her shoulder as well.
“What did he guess?” asked Harry, linking arms with Pansy to more easily keep pace with the girl.
“He bet you'd need a time turner to get up to all your mischief.”
Harry bit his lip to keep from laughing out loud. “You owe him a Galleon as well.”
“A time turner and an invisibility cloak? Isn't that a bit much Potter?”
“Call me Harry, and it was only third year. I'll tell you about it if you want.”
“Do tell, I love a juicy bit of gossip.”
Harry just laughed.

Millicent was nowhere to be found. Even the Marauder’s Map could not reveal her whereabouts. Pansy was panicking, but Harry was, in some small measure, happy. Snape wouldn't waste time on him if there was a more pressing emergency, He knew he couldn't appear before Snape thinking like that though, the man would pick apart his brain before he had a chance to blink, much less try to clear his mind.
“I'll check one more time near the Headmaster's office.” volunteered Harry when Pansy suggested it was past time to inform Professor Snape.
Suspicion had been growing in Pansy for days, Potter's behavior was nothing short of odd, one minute he'd be happy enough and the next he'd be on the verge of panic, fidgeting as if fighting off the urge to flee. Pansy had dismissed her concerns previously. Potter's avoidance of Professor Snape cinched it though. The Golden Boy danced circles around even the most threatening of Slytherins, the only reason such a confident boy would avoid their Head of House was an appointment with him. “You can't avoid Professor Snape forever, and honestly you shouldn't, it's generally a bad idea.” said Pansy as she headed off to find the teacher in question.
Harry stared after the girl, a chill seeming to run directly to his core. He shook it off. She couldn't know. She was just guessing. As long as he didn't confirm it'd be fine. The Slytherins had gone from hating him to confused. Some of the hate was just left over. She didn't really know what he was. He shuddered. Harry forced the thoughts from his head and concentrated instead on the missing Slytherin girl. 'Perhaps she has a boyfriend in another house? If she spent the night in Ravenclaw then this is a lot of wasted effort. Draco might know.' Harry raced toward the Slytherin dungeons.

Draco was languishing in bed. He was thinking about the dream he'd just had. Harry and him had been fighting over something silly and he'd gotten angry. He'd pushed the smaller boy up against the wall and proceeded to ravage him. Draco sighed happily, almost tasting his mates lips on his own. He imagined walking over to the boys bed and giving him a very nice wake up call. He grinned at the thought.
He was torn from his musings as the dorm door flew open, waking everyone in it. In a split second a number of wands were pointed at the already vacant door, and Draco, who had sat straight up at the noise, had a lap full of Harry.
“Hi.” said Harry happily.
Draco glared down at the brunette.
Blaise groaned and rolled over blocking out the early morning light with his pillow. The other boys followed suit.
“Well aren't you going to say good morning?”
Draco massaged his temples.
Harry grinned. “I know what will put you in a good mood.” Harry's arms snaked around Draco's neck, pulling him down for a lingering kiss.
Draco growled and pulled Harry closer for a bruising kiss.
“Told you.” said Harry pulling back.
Draco, unprepared to let his wayward mate off so quickly, started to pull him back in.
“Wait.” interrupted Harry.
Draco growled,
“It's important.” Harry insisted. “Is Millicent dating anyone?”
Draco saw red, he pulled Harry back in for a possessive kiss.
Harry, realizing how his words had seemed, pulled away to explain. “I'm not asking because I like her. She's gone missing.”
“Good.” said Draco, trying to kiss the boy again.
“Draco.” Harry scolded. “Our housemate is missing. Gone. No one can find her. Does she have an out of house boyfriend she could be spending the night with?”
“What?” asked Draco, snapping out of his jealous rage. “ Um, no, she's dating Theo.”
“Huh?” Groaned the boy, hearing his name, “Wha-”
“When's the last time you saw Millicent?”
“Mmm, Millie?” he said, rubbing his head. “At the feast last night, why?”
“She went to see Dumbledore and she's not back yet.” said Harry warily. “Parkinsons' gone to tell Snape.”
“Millie's missing!” shouted Theo, fully awake at the realization. His exclamation made the few boys who had fallen back asleep bolt up again.
“What?” asked Blaise, glaring sleepily at the Slytherins.
“Millie's missing.” said Crabbe from across the room. He'd been awake from the start.
“Since when?” asked one of the boys.
“Last night.” said Harry. “She had a meeting with the Headmaster and never came back.”
“Dumbledore.” sneered Theodore.
“Don't make accusations until you have all of the facts.” warned Blaise, “Remember last time?”
Theo nodded reluctantly.
“Anyone have a problem with Millie?” asked Goyle gruffly.
“No.” Draco denied. “She keeps pretty much to herself. Even the Gryffindors don't bother her much.”
“Let's not blow this out of proportion.” reasoned one of the Slytherins. “She may still show up for breakfast.”
“And if not, Pansy's already telling Snape.” reminded Harry.
“Easy for you to say. It's not your girlfriend missing.” snarled Theo, climbing out of bed. He pulled on a cloak and set off, presumably to search for his girlfriend.
Blaise groaned at the sound of the slamming door. “That's it! I am up and in a terrible mood.” he snarled.
“I know what would put you in a better mood.” claimed Harry, oddly cheery now that he was with Draco.
“Not likely.” claimed Blaise.
“Not even winning a bet?”
“Huh?”
“Pansy owes you a Galleon. I do not use an invisibility potion to get into mischief.”
Blaise grinned.
“She owes you one too, Draco.”
“A Time Turner? Really? I meant that as a joke.”
“Let's just say Granger was very busy third year.”
“Just third year? How'd you get into so much mischief the rest of the time?”
“The same way my dad did. You could say it runs in the family.” Harry giggled.
“I certainly hope not.” came a dark voice from the door. Harry stiffened. “It wouldn't do to have any more wild animals running around.” Harry's face went blank. “Well Potter?”
“Well what, sir?”
“Are you an animagus?”
“No sir.”
“I suppose it's a lost cause now. There's no way he'll explain in front of a teacher.” said a Slytherin sulkily.
“Indeed.” replied Severus, before turning toward the bulk of the room.
“I've spoken to Parkinson and Nott. Does anyone know anything about the disappearance of Bulstrode?”
“Potter told us about it.” volunteered Crabbe.
“I don't know anything Parkinson doesn't.” interrupted the boy.
“Why did she come to you for help? I would have thought she'd have gone to Mr. Nott or Malfoy.”
“She didn't specifically search for me, I was already awake.”
“She said you were adamant about her not being in any classrooms, bathrooms or other places she mentioned, without haven't searched them first. Have you become a seer Mr. Potter?”
“Feel free to check if you don't trust me.”
“How do you know she's not there?” demanded Snape.
Harry pulled out his map, his eyes cast down submissively.
Snape recognized the parchment. “How are insults of assistance in finding someone?”
Harry pulled the parchment close and whispered the password underneath his breath. Everyone leaned close to try and hear what he was saying and leaned back just as quickly when the map burst suddenly to life.
Snape held out his hand and Harry reluctantly placed the heirloom in it. With some careful observation Snape quickly realized what the parchment contained and began scanning it for the girl's name.
“It doesn't show the Chamber of Secrets, but you have to be a Parselmouth to get in there, or the room of requirement, but we already checked there. I thought we should wait to see if she showed up before we started checking the ways out of school. Filch knows these four so no one really uses them. This ones caved in but we could check behind the mirror anyways, I don't know how far in it's collapsed. This one's under the Whomping Willow and only a few people know the secret so I doubt she be there.
This one leads into the cellar of Honeydukes, but it's closed at night so maybe it's a possibility.”
“How many other know the passageways Potter?”
“Most of the Weasleys, maybe a few Gryffindors and anyone who's discovered them on their own.”
“What's the Willow's secret?”
“If you touch a certain knot it freezes.” Goyle snickered.
“And how do you propose we check the other passages?”
“There's passwords.” said Harry, checking the fourth floor passage. “This ones on the fourth floor behind a mirror, see here's the password. The Honeydukes passage is behind the statue of the one-eyed crone. The password is, er, Dissendium .”
The Slytherin boys stared on in awe,
“I'll have to check the Whomping Willow passage myself because it would be hard to find the right knot if you haven't seen it before.”
Snape nodded. “Crabbe, Goyle, you head to the fourth floor. Zabini, Malfoy, you take Honeydukes, check the locks for signs of magical tampering. Potter, come with me, I'll need to see the knot for myself. As for your map-” Harry stiffened. “I'd better not catch you using it without my supervision.”
“Yes Professor.” Harry said in a monotone, pocketing his map with a whispered “Mischief managed.”
XXXHPDMXXX
Upon arriving at the Whomping Willow Harry started searching the ground.
“What are you looking for?”
“A stick long enough to poke the knot without coming in range of the branches.”
“You're a wizard. If something doesn't work transfigure it.”
“Oh yeah.” A quick transfiguration later and Harry was strolling down the passageway to the Shrieking Shack, hoping the silence they had maintained during their walk to the Willow would continue.
“Where does this lead Potter?”
He hoped in vain. “You don't remember?”
“Should I?”
“Third year. Sirius kidnapped Ron to get a hold if Pettigrew. You followed us into the Willow. Don't you recall.”
“I followed you down a dimly lit corridor and into a destroyed room. There were no signs announcing where exactly it was.”
“The Shrieking Shack.”
“Why would anyone build a passage to an abandoned house.”
“It was for Remus.”
The professor stiffened at the mention of the werewolf and the memory and realization of where he was. “This is where he-”
“Yeah. That's why there's so many rumors of this place being haunted. The destruction and howling frightened people I suppose.”
“And rightly so. The fact that the Headmaster allowed a werewolf to attend school with innocent children is abhorrent.” spat Snape venomously.
Harry said nothing and pushed open the door that led to the shrieking shack. He hated that the man talked about Moony like that, but he couldn't blame him, at least not while he stood in the place where he had almost died.
The sight greeted the two men was ghastly. Strung to the ceiling by two poorly transfigured chains, hung Millicent, dried blood crusted to her wrists and marked across the face and arms with bruises and cuts. She had passed out but even so her face was twisted as if in terrible pain.
Snape wasted no time in freeing the girl, who fell to the ground with a pained cry. Sweeping his injured Slytherin into his arms, Snape strode back down the corridor, leaving Harry to trail behind him.

I took forever to get here, but this was the next chapter. I have some ideas for the next one but I don't know how long it will take me to write it. I hope that anyone reading this is happy and well, whoever and where ever they are.
