Shadow bounded away from the ruckus and flailing limbs. He shook himself with a laugh before turning and pouncing back on the Clouded Leopard before it could sneak up behind the black grim like dog. The two play-wrestled for a bit before settling to watch the dog and large wolf chase each other around the basement room. Edge lay on his side breathing deeply while Shadow rested on top of him, green eyes shining gleefully. It had been a while since he had felt this happy and free.
Remus had decided to try going without the Wolfsbane in the end as long as both Edge and Harry would be present to rein him in should the need arise. There turned out to be no reason to be worried though as the man had simply shifted into the large wolf that had become so familiar over the past weeks with his mind fully intact. Granted the wolf-like instincts were enhanced and Moony was in the forefront but Remus was still very much present and aware. There had been a brief scuffle between the two mates to reaffirm status but after that all was calm. Moony had taken time to get a feel for things in the new and enlarged shape, while also giving Remus a chance to feel the freedom and benefits of being shifted, before he had initiated a wrestling match between the four of them.
Eventually, the two canines wore themselves out and lay close to the shifted vampires. They were panting heavily yet seemed content. Padfoot rolled to his back giving them an upside down doggy grin as he pawed at Moony’s chin.
*I haven’t had this much excitement in a while.*
Edge chuckled. *Nor have I. Seems as though Moony enjoys his new freedom.*
The wolf was quiet but nodded. He appeared lost in his thoughts so the others let him be.
Edge stood, jostling Shadow and making him grumble, before shaking out his fur. *Sorry but I wanted to check in on Dante before sunrise.* Shadow and Padfoot both gave soft growls under their breaths making Edge sigh and roll his eyes. *Yes, yes, I know. It’s not my fault the old man won’t let him leave even though Dante wishes to do so.* With that the snow leopard made his way up the stairs and out the door making sure it shut behind him.
Shadow huffed moving to snuggle close to his godfather. Dante stuck to his word and had not bothered their small group since that night. Shadow had caught him lurking in shadows and corners, usually in wolf form, watching them and observing though the wolf never made any move to interact with them. The vampire made Shadow nervous at first but he had slowly gotten used to the golden eyes peering out at them. Thankfully, Dante had taken to giving Severus a very wide berth, even going so far as to remove himself from the room should the snarky Potions Master enter. Shadow still did not trust the vampire and knew that he was most likely observing them for something. The question was: what? Even Edge, who had taken to spending an hour or two with his Sire every evening, seemed anxious when Dante would venture outside of his assigned room.
The black cat stretched with a yawn allowing his claws to scratch lightly against the floor. He could feel sunrise approaching in that it tugged at his awareness making him tired in a way that made his muscles not even want to move. Shadow blinked rapidly with a shake of his head. He reached out mentally to check on Severus to find the man just beginning to come out of sleep. The man brushed him away irritably but did not shut him out. Shadow had made a point of reaching out to the man multiple times throughout the night since the connection had first been made. Most of the time he would be growled at and pushed away forcibly, the door to the mans mind being slammed shut. Sometimes Severus would allow him to hover, not seeing or hearing anything of any importance, but enough to feel his presence, like now. Those times made Shadow purr in contentment. He never pushed his luck, knowing that if he did, Severus would block any and all attempts he would make to connect with the older man.
Another yawn caught the panther as he curled up for his day sleep. Padfoot nudged him but he was in no fit state to move now. He heard Padfoot huff at him before he succumbed to sleep.

Moony watched fondly as his mate attempted to get their cub up before he went under with no success. He made note of Remus chuckling at the two as Padfoot huffed and grumbled about carrying the ‘little punk’ upstairs. Moony also noted that they had yet to transform back and that Remus wasn’t pushing for it either. He nudged the man in question. Remus glanced at him briefly before shaking his head and fading as the two merged together. The wolf moved to his feet, surprised, and swayed a little as their magic settled into place. Padfoot must have felt the shift for he whined as he walked over to the tawny wolf.
*Moony? What’s going on?*
*The bond has completed itself.* The wolf opened its golden eyes to stare into the blue ones of his mate. It had taken many conversations and arguments but it appeared they were both finally on the same page. Remus must have felt or discovered something during the night that eased his fear and erased the last remaining obstacle he had; the fear of losing himself.
Padfoot swallowed. *Remus?*
Moony moved to nuzzle the grim like dog. He could smell the nervousness and fear of losing someone so precious. *I am still Remus. I know it is confusing, and will take some getting used to, but I have not gone anywhere.*
Padfoot gave a soft whine returning the nuzzle. He had noticed small changes occurring in his mate since the first time the wolf had taken over. Remus had started moving with more confidence. His eyes appeared a more even mix of brown and amber giving them a soft glow like affect. He started to use his senses more, most commonly breathing in a room when he entered it. Remus had also become more tactile, especially with him, giving nuzzles and rubs, almost as though he were scent marking those in his pack. The only one he had not dared to approach was Severus though Padfoot could see the urge and want clear in his mates eyes. Even with those changes, Remus was still sweet, caring, gentle Remus. He still craved chocolate the closer the moon came. He still preferred hot baths over showers. He still loved to snuggle with Sirius and had even expanded that to include cuddling as Padfoot and Moony. Remus had even started to look more on the healthier side though the wolf showed more improvement in that area. The werewolf had started taking in more protein than he normally did allowing for the wolf to fill out so its ribs couldn’t be counted at a distance. The once dry, brittle fur was still course but soft and thick. Deep tawny fur was striped with a soft sand colored fur where the silver chains had scarred the skin underneath. Sirius had joked that Moony looked like a tiger shaped as a wolf. Remus had not been amused.
Padfoot sighed giving one last nuzzle before turning back toward his godson now deep within his day sleep. The panther barely breathed but Moony could just hear the soft thump….thump of the boys heart. It was a slower beat than anything alive could manage and still be…well…alive. Moony watched his mate intently as he transformed and moved to pick up the slumbering panther. He had given his mates request a lot of thought.
*You still sure?* Moony gave a soft rumble from his chest. Not quite a growl but not a purr either. Wolves didn’t purr.
Sirius paused looking over his shoulder at the shifted werewolf with a confused expression. Moony huffed and stepped closer. Softly he took his mates hand in his mouth being careful not to let his teeth so much as scratch the skin between them. It would not do to infect the other without confirmation that his desire had not changed. Sirius tensed but the question was clear. Moony waited, frozen, as his mate sorted his thoughts. They had talked in depth about Sirius wanting to be turned. He understood his mates wish. Remus no more wanted his mate to die than Sirius wanted to die. He didn’t want to lose his mate either but the final decision was ultimately up to Sirius. Sirius had a plan in place so he would not have to suffer as Remus had for so many years. Edge had promised Remus that he would be available to Sirius to bond with if they went through with the change. The vampire had done much to settle Remus’ nerves over the idea and tonight had settled it for him. He had felt free from his curse even as the draw of the moon pulled on the transformation. He had felt the compulsion but was able to control it enough to make it virtually unpainful. His joints still ached each time he transformed but he would take achy joints over burning pain and broken bones. If Sirius would only have to experience the burning pain once and never again, then Remus would be willing to allow him to be bitten.
Slowly, Sirius relaxed and look into the golden eyes of his mate. He nodded, once, firmly. Moony blinked. The hand would not do. He moved away nosing at his mate and sniffing at him. Sirius gave a small chuckle when Moony sniffed along his ribcage.
“Why not my arm? It will be easy to get to treat.”
Moony paused before deciding that his mates suggestion had merit. The bicep would do nicely and he did not have to bite deep. A wound deep enough to allow his saliva into the blood stream was all he needed. Moony rubbed his nose against Sirius’ cheek causing the man to smile softly, and nervously, at him before motioning for the wolf to get on with it. With a deep breath, Moony bit into his mates arm.

Severus had just finished his coffee when the mutts came into the kitchen from the basement carrying his wayward panther. He immediately took in the change of Remus, the way the man carried himself lending to the new dangerous feel of the mans aura. So, the transformation was a success. Man and wolf had merged into one. Severus noted that the change seemed to be good for the man in front of him. He couldn’t remember a time Remus had stood so tall. Black, on the other hand, looked tired and was holding onto his arm with a wince when he moved. With a sigh, Severus summoned a healing salve with bandages and motioned for Black to sit at the table.
“I’m sure you know which study Harry prefers. You can leave him there in front of the fire.” Severus directed the order at Remus who rolled his eyes with a soft growl which Severus chose to ignore since the man moved to do as told anyway. “Black, sit.”
Sirius glared at him on principle but did as instructed. Severus charmed the cloth away from the wound taking in the still bleeding bite wound on the mans bicep. It was neatly done as far as bites go, deep enough to get the job done, but not so deep as to damage the muscle underneath. Pity magic could not heal a werewolf bite. He summoned water and cloth to set about cleaning the wound rolling his eyes as the once animagus winced. “I’ll have Wolfsbane ready for you come the next moon.” He applied the salve and wrapped the wound snuggly with a bandage. “I hope you know what you are doing.”
“I’m not going to leave them. If this is the only way that I can prevent them from having to watch me die, from having to live an endless amount of time without me, then so be it. They are my family.”
Severus sighed as he cleaned up. “Gryffindors and your so called loyalty. Foolishness if you ask me.” Black was so sure in his choice, so determined. He envied the man. If only his choices could be made so easily.
“I don’t expect a Slytherin to understand.” Sirius growled standing from the chair. “What would you know of loyalty?”
“What indeed.” Severus sneered with a glare. And here he had just bandage the mutt up. What was he thinking? Why did he bother to try with these idiots? The answer had been transported to an upstairs study for the day.
“Gentlemen.”
Remus’ voice was calm but held a warning undertone that made both men whither in their stances. Sirius immediately looked contrite as he lowered his eyes in submission. Severus smirked in silent satisfaction. Guess he knew who was going to be alpha in that little dynamic.
“Does it not bother you that Harry is going to have to watch you die, Severus?” Remus asked softly.
His smirk fell and his chest felt like someone had grabbed his lungs in a vice grip. Honestly, Severus forbad himself from thinking about such things. They would do no one any good. He let his face go blank as he brought up his shields. “Why would it bother me? Death is part of life.”
“Not Harry’s life. Not anymore.” Remus was not fooled. He had watched the change come over the stoic mans face before he could hide it away behind his mask. “He will watch death happen all around him while time can never touch him. Harry will watch his friends grow old while he remains as he is. Seventeen for the rest of his years, and as a vampire those years can be unimaginable.”
Severus wished Lupin would shut up already. He knew all of this. He felt a crack on the chest he had shoved all things concerning Harry into.
“It was never my wish for anyone to be burdened with lycanthropy. Never had I even thought of biting anyone but this bond has changed the curse in such a way I could not argue against Sirius any longer. I could not argue against his desire to stay with his godson as long as he possibly could. Yes, he will have to bond with Edge but Edge will not be leaving Harry unless forced away. Harry will have to suffer enough loss, I cannot condemn him to lose everyone. I am keeping my mate but Harry gets to keep his godfather.”
Severus scoffed. “What does your little speech have to do with me? I am not the brats family unit.” His hands were clenched against his side in an effort not to storm away from the wolf. He struggled to seal the crack before it expanded.
Remus sighed. “Harry cares for you Severus, whether you believe it or not, he does.”
“His feelings are due to the bond. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“Keep telling yourself that and maybe you will believe it.” Remus ran a hand through his hair. “I understand you are in a tight position, Severus…”
“You understand nothing.” Severus growled out between clenched teeth. He grabbed his arm with a hiss. The mark was burning. “Fuck.” His heart started racing and he breathed deeply to calm it. They knew this was coming. Damn it.
“Go. We’ll inform Dumbledore.” Remus grabbed his arm as he went to walk past. Severus glared at the hand before meeting the honey hued eyes. “Watch yourself, Severus.” The concern and worry in those eyes about did him in. No. He had to focus. Severus wrenched his arm free summoning his robes as he left Grimmauld Place.
Golden eyes watched from the shadows.

It was late when Severus was finally able to return to Grimmauld. His entire body ached and he shook with tremors due to Cruciatus. The Dark Lord had not been happy. Many followers were tortured in much the same way Severus had been. The man had been irate that he had yet to find the spy in their midst. He had been even more enraged that he needed to interrogate his inner circle. He had dug through Severus mind not being subtle as he usually was. It took all Severus had to keep the walls protecting his most condemning memories safe without revealing they were walls. The snake had been enraged to find nothing. Thankfully. Severus had left the meeting barely able to walk and with a pounding in his skull, but his position was still intact as was his life. He counted his small blessings though he knew he would not be so fortunate twice.
All he wanted was a hot bath in healing salts and the strongest pain potion he could get his hands on. He could hear Molly in the kitchen with Harry and his friends as he walked by. He had forgotten they would be joining them for Christmas. Severus thought he had gotten by without being heard but had only got to the stair case when Harry came up behind him.
“Severus?” The brats voice was filled with worry. His head pounded.
“Go away. I’m fine.”
He had no more gotten the words out of his mouth when his muscles clenched in a spasm that he had to clench his teeth together to stop the cry of pain from breeching his lips. He held tightly onto the railing and Harry who had moved to help hold him upright. Severus took deep breaths as his muscles relaxed enough he could move again. He cursed his trembling.
“Come on, Severus. Let me help you.” Harry couldn’t stand seeing his professor in such a state. He felt his hatred of Voldemort grow exponentially.
Severus did not have the strength to fight but was secretly happy to have the vampire to lean on. Harry helped hold him up as they made their way slowly up the stairs. Another spasm racked his tired body as they reached the top. It was not as strong as the previous one but still enough he had to pause to catch his breath. He had been hoping to get into his rooms before the spasms started. It was the worst after effect of the Cruciatus when one was under for too long.
“Severus!”
Harry growled as Severus looked up to find Edge and Dante in front of them. Edge looked concerned and was the one that had spoken. Dante watched both of them thoughtfully though Severus could pick up the smallest hint of concern as well. The eldest vampire simply stepped back into his room after a moment and shut the door behind him softly. Edge stepped closer to them once Harry stopped growling. He positioned himself at Severus’ other side and helped maneuver Severus down the hall to his room. Severus simply closed his eyes and let the vampires carry him. He would deal with the humiliation later. There was no way he had enough strength to fight off two vampires in his state anyway.
The two vampires settled Severus onto his bed. Harry held him up through another spasm.
“What do you need?” Edge questioned him.
Shaking, he summoned two bottles from his supply and handed them to Edge. One was the salts and the other was a potion he designed specifically to counter the effects of Cruciatus. “Bath.”
Edge nodded before turning to carry out his task. Severus glanced at Harry when a vial was nudged into his hands. Upon observation, Severus found it was one of his own pain potions from his supply. Harry must have flitted over and grabbed it when he was distracted with Edge. Gratefully, he swallowed it down, sighing as it kicked into action relieving him of at least the pounding of his head and soreness. He would have to wait for his bath for the tremors and spasms to be eased. Severus was grateful to the vampires for their help, really he was, but he drew the line at them helping him undress for his bath. He kicked Edge out but knew it would be futile to try with Harry. Instead, he had the boy wait in the bedroom while he slipped into his bath.
It took a few minutes for the potion to be absorbed into his skin but worked quickly once it did. Severus felt his muscles relax and release for the first time in hours. Slowly, the tremors ceased and he felt his eyelids growing heavy from relief. He lost track of the time he had spent in the water but he must have dosed off as Harry was the one to wake him and his water had gone cold. He shooed the boy back out, who grumbled at him the entire time as he dried and got changed into pajamas. Severus walked straight by Harry to his bed. He wanted sleep.
“Severus?” Came a soft voice just as he had got comfortable under his blankets.
“What?” His voice sounded rough to his own ears.
“Can I stay with you?” Harry asked. He sounded pitiful, like kicked dog. Severus hated it though he would never let Harry know that.
Severus sighed closing his eyes. “Fine.” Just as long as he could sleep without interruptions.
To his credit, Harry stayed above the blankets, allowing Severus to keep his warmth to himself, but he did curl up close to Severus. Severus glanced over his shoulder at the young man behind him who had pressed his back up against his own. With another deep sigh, Severus rolled over and summoned another blanket from the closet. Draping it over Harry, he allowed his arm to rest across the slim waist. Harry was stiff while Severus settled himself again but quickly situated himself tightly against the other behind him. In a moment of weakness Severus smiled softly taking in Harrys scent as he drifted into slumber.
Harry remained with Severus for the rest of the night without moving. He was content to lay snuggled up with the older man as he listened and felt his breathing behind him. Harry could feel the steady beat of the others heart against his back. Severus continued to sleep through the morning, even as Harry drifted into his day sleep. It would be late that afternoon before Severus would stir.
It wasn’t until Harry was safely deep into his day sleep that a lone figure slipped into the dark room. It made not a sound as it crossed the room to leave a small box with a note attached in the drawer of the dresser beside the bed. The figure stood silently, watching the pair for a few short moments, before turning and leaving the room just as silently as it had entered.
