-Chapter Twenty-
January fifteenth started with a snowstorm covering everything in a fresh blanket of untouched, white snow.
Harry was sitting beside the window with a cup of hot tea in his hand looking outside at the falling snow while he waited for Draco to finish dressing for their meeting with the lawyer.
“You all ready to head out?” Draco asked, walking into the room, fiddling with the tie knotted at his throat.
“Yeah all set.” Harry said with a frown. Setting his tea cup down, Harry allowed Draco to put his heavy cloak over his shoulders and button it.
“What's wrong, love?” Draco asked, pulling him close to share a soft, brief kiss.
“Nothing just today's bringing back some bad memories.” Harry said with a shrug, turning away.
“You don't have to hide that today is hurting you. No one will hold this against you.” Draco said turning him back around.
“I know. I just honestly didn't think it would hurt this much. I mean I've mourned for them why does today make it any different?”
“Because today their last will and testament is being read. It really makes it final even though you already knew they were gone and weren't coming back.”
“I guess so. Lets just go so we can get this done and then we can come back home and cuddle because I think that's what I need.” Harry said, running his fingers through his short hair, causing the short spikes to become a little more wild.
“Anything you need I'll give it to you.” Draco said, rubbing Harry's back.
Giving a slightly forced smile, Harry nodded and headed towards the fireplace so that they could floo to Diagon Alley then head to the lawyers office.
They flooed into the small building with multiple fireplaces for the people visiting the alley. Heading out of the building, the two headed towards the lawyer's office ignoring the few people shopping even in the snow storm.
“I'd call them crazy if we weren't here as well.” Harry whispered to Draco, wiping some snow off of his face.
“You can still call them crazy. We're here because of business they're here just to shop.” Draco answered.
“That is true.” Harry said as they hurried into the office, brushing off the bits of snow that were clinging to their clothes.
“Afternoon gentlemen, Mr. Laufey and the other guests are already in his office.” The secretary said with a smile.
“We'll just head on in then.” Draco said with a nod, leading Harry towards the slightly cracked door.
Stepping inside they saw Sirius, Remus, someone that was obviously from the Ministry if the badge pinned to his cloak was any indication and one other person that they didn't know.
“Good afternoon gentlemen I hope you had a wonderful honeymoon.” He said smiling at the two.
“We did thank you.” Draco said, as he led Harry over to the two empty seats beside Remus and Sirius.
Sitting down, Harry shared a strained smile with his two godfathers before lacing his fingers through Draco's.
“Okay now that everyone is here we can get started. We're here for the reading of the will of Lily and James Potter finalized on December third of the year 1980.” Clearing his throat, Mr. Laufey said, “The first item on the list is the property of Godric's Hollow. It is stated that both Mr. and Mrs. Potter wish to have Godric's Hollow torn down and demolished because of the simple fact that it wasn't a home, but rather a hideout filled with fear and worry because of the war.”
Leaning against Draco's side, Harry couldn't help but feel glad that that house was going to be torn down.
“The second item on the list is the wealth and property left from the deceased. It is written that 20% of their wealth is to be left to the appropriate party to help in the repairs for damages done in the war with the stipulation that it is once the war is finally over.”
Making a mark on the paper with a quill, the lawyer took a second to take a sip of water before he continued.
“Mrs. Potter leaves ten thousand pounds to her sister, Petunia Dursley along with a sealed letter for her.” Looking around, he made another note on his paper.
“Mr and Mrs Potter also leave 30% of their wealth to Sirius Black and Remus Lupin and, Mr. Potter left a note here that you both, and I quote, 'get together and get rid of all of that raging unresolved sexual tension.' Mrs. Potter also left a note saying to ignore her husband because he isn't funny.”
Smiling, Harry looked up and had to bite his lip to stop the laughter at the bright red blushes covering both Sirius and Remus' faces.
“The remaining 50% is to go to their only son, Harry James Potter. The property they left, such as pictures, paintings, books, and so on and so forth is to be split between Harry Potter, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin.”
Setting down the will, he said, “There is one final notation on the will about the placement of their son, but I feel that should be read with only family if that is alright with all parties here.”
Everyone nodded at that, and Mr. Laufey smiled. “Alright. So before we get to that I have a few papers here for Mr. Landers and Ministry official, Mr. Rathers to sign.”
The two men stood up and moved over to the desk, each to the side that the lawyer pointed them to. “Mr. Landers, these papers are giving you the right to demolish Godric's Hollow with the notation that you will receive payment once it is complete. And Mr. Rathers, these papers will give you the right to take the 20% given to the Ministry for repairs. There is also a notice that if these funds are not used correctly whomever did not follow the will shall be punished will time in Azkaban and immediate termination from the Ministry.”
While the two signed the papers, Harry and the others sat quietly in their chairs. It only took about five minutes before the two men were leaving the office with copies of their papers.
“Alright now that those two are gone we can get to the final part of the will. Even though you no longer need placement because you're of age and married, it still must be read because it is in the will.”
Nodding in understanding, Harry leaned further into Draco's side as the lawyer started to speak.
“In the event of their untimely deaths, James and Lily give custody of their only child, Harry James Potter, to Sirius Black. In the event that Sirius Black cannot take custody, custody will go to Remus Lupin. If neither of the two listed can take custody, Harry will be adopted out to a Wizarding couple with the stipulation that whomever wishes to adopt the child will have a thorough background check done to assure no harm will come to him and that he wouldn't be raised in a harmful house.”
In an instant, Sirius and Remus were beside him and wrapped him up in their arms, Draco squished right in the hug with his husband.
After a few minutes when the hug ended, Mr Laufey said, “I have the appropriate papers right here for you three to sign if you're ready.”
Moving over to the desk, the three signed the papers and took their own copies of them.
“There is one problem, the money that your mother left to your aunt. There was no answer to the notice that was sent to her and, as we can all tell, there is no one here to claim what was left to her. Do you know why she might not have come?”
“Yeah I sure do. Um if it's okay with you I'll take a trip to visit her and drop off her papers.” Harry said, with a slight frown.
“If that's what you wish to do I can allow you to do that.” Mr Laufey said with a nod. “I'll get the papers for you so you can take them with you when you leave.”
Nodding, Harry covered his mouth with a blush as a yawn ripped from his lips.
“If you can get those papers now I think it's time I got my husband home so he can rest.” Draco said, instantly appearing at Harry's side, holding him close and allowing Harry to lean all of his weight onto him.
It only took a few minutes before the lawyer was handing Draco a file with the papers in it, but by the time he got them, Harry seemed to be drifting off standing there against Draco.
“If you need to get in contact with me you know how to, Draco. Now go and take your husband home since we're done here. I'll file the papers with the Ministry and Gringotts and have them send a letter with how long before your husband will be allowed to move what was left to him.
Nodding, Draco scooped Harry up into his arms, ignoring the mumbled protest Harry gave and headed towards the door with Sirius and Remus walking beside him.
The last thing Harry remembered before he fell asleep was Draco stepping out into the cold air and a snowflake landed on his cheek.
****END CHAPTER****
AN: Here's the next chapter I hope you all enjoyed it. I know it's short and probably boring with another lawyer scene, but I promise that it's the final one. I'm not sure if there will be a delay in posting next week or not, but today and into Saturday my area is getting hit with a snow storm and winds so I might lose power...ugh I hope not. I'll write in my notebook if I lose power so I'll be able to type it up once power comes back on. Anyway that's it for now and I'll be back next week with another chapter.
