Chapter 20

Just a reminder of what's on my profile; reviews complaining or whinging about the lack 'o sex in stories will get deleted. If you want a smut-filled romp, you need to find another story to read.
Yawning, leaning against Sirius as they sat at the table, Harry reached up and rubbed his eyes. They had spent the day cleaning here and there, mostly just tossing out some obviously bin-worthy things, then taking a look around at what needed done, so they were tired from that. Add on the fact it was now about midnight and he was really tired.
Giving Harry's head a rub, Sirius snickered, “We're all tired, don't worry about it. They'll be here shortly, then you'll perk up.”“I know,” Harry chuckled, shaking his head.“It's just safest to do it at this hour as there is very little chance of anyone coming over, especially now that you're around,” Remus told him. Smiling, he added, softly, “And you'll like Narcissa, I promise. She's not what she has to show in public.”“No problem there,” Harry said shifting around then taking a drink of his butterbeer. “So, what are we working on tomorrow? If anything?”“About the same as what we did today; just getting a feel for what's where so we know what we're dealing with when it comes to this shitehole. As everyone will be over in the evening for your birthday, we're not going to get too involved here,” Sirius explained. “The beginning of the week is when we're going to start with the heavy-duty stuff and call in the twins for it.”Harry was about to say something when the gold signal flashed in the doorway. Stiffening up as Remus sent the all clear signal back, he waited.Giving his godson a reassuring pat on the back, Sirius said, “Nothing to worry about, I promise. And your cloak is going to be an immeasurable help with this. More protection, that's for damned sure.”“Glad it can be of some use,” Harry said, watching the door nervously.Stepping in, Severus held the door open and waited for the other two under the cloak to come in. Once they did then stripped the cloak off, he shut and warded the door to make sure. Looking around, he said, “No problems getting here. I didn't detect anyone tarrying about, so we should be safe.”Nodding, Sirius stood, grinning when his cousin came over and gave him a hug then a kiss on the cheek. Hugging her back, he chuckled, “You're still a sexy broad, Cissy.”“And you, Sirius, are still incorrigible,” Narcissa told him with a smile, giving him another kiss on the cheek and patting it when she was done. Looking at the young man standing beside her cousin, she smiled at him and said, “Hello, Harry. Don't let Sirius talk you into anything that will get you in too much trouble. He enjoys doing that far too much.”Grinning at that a little, Harry nodded, “I won't, Mrs. Malfoy, and hello.”Putting a hand on the young man's cheek and giving it a pat, she smiled at him and said, “My name's Narcissa. You can call me that. No need to be formal at a time like this.” Seeing him nod, she went over then gave Remus a hug and kiss on the cheek before sitting down on the bench between the two, opposite where Harry, Sirius and Lucius sat. Opening her bag, she began to pull out shrunken packages that were wrapped. Pushing them to the center of the table, she said, “Those are from Lucius and I, well some of them. You'll see on the tag who it's really from when you open them. Others are from Sirius as he had me pick up some things for him.”Tapping them with his wand, Sirius sent them to the cupboard they were storing them in, nodding. “Were you able to get everything?”“We were,” Narcissa told him with a firm nod and a smile. “Severus had to pick a couple up for me as he was more familiar with those areas than I was, but we got everything.” Pulling out three of the stuffed dragons like Elliot, she said, “Two have no charms on them so you have a blank slate to work with. The other does. I'd suggest that you set him aside so the magic on him doesn't intermingle and you can see what he normally does.”Picking up one of the dragons, Remus nodded, “Good. It gives us something to work with here. This will help.”Waiting until Narcissa pulled the Defense book out, Lucius said, resting his hand on Harry's leg, “This is a good defense book. Severus mentioned what the problem was and it's one we're sending with Draco so he can get a feel for what he has to learn for the coming year. It should work nicely for what you need with Harry. It covers most of what's on the OWLs and presses beyond that into non-verbal spells. I had Narcissa pick up two so Harry could have one.”Taking that, nodding, Sirius said, “Perfect. We were talking about the ones we used in school, but this will work better.”Looking at the book, Harry nodded. Glancing between Narcissa and Lucius, he said, “Thanks, for everything.”“No need to thank us, we're glad to help, Harry,” Narcissa told him with a smile. Reaching across the table, she patted the young man's hand and said, “There's no need to be nervous. I know the relationship, the basics anyway as the rest isn't my business, and don't have anything to say about it. That's why I wanted to come meet you. That and to show I'm not the evil woman so many think I am.”“She's not,” Sirius told Harry with a grin, nudging him. “At least in that way. She has her moments though if you irritate her.”Huffing, Narcissa shot him a look then smiled slightly, “Well, that is true, I admit it. I can't be that bad as I've put up with you and Lucius, both, since school.”“There's that too,” Sirius grinned bigger.“Now, Sirius,” she said, firm look on her face, crossing her arms over her chest. “There is something I want to talk to you about.”“Uh oh, I'm in trouble,” Sirius snickered, taking a drink of his beer. “What did I do now, Cissy?”“Let me send a couple of elves over here to help you! This place—I don't think I even need to go beyond that to get the hint across to you. And you now have Harry here all the time. You need help, Sirius! I have two that will be perfect. They will make sure no one, including Kreacher, sees them and will help. I insist, Sirius!” She told him firmly, tapping her foot.Chuckling, Sirius gave a slow nod, then agreed, “Alright, if you can make damned sure they know they have to avoid everyone and that Kreacher can't see them until we can work something out there. You know what he's like, Cissy.”“I do and they are perfect for this job. I'll bind them to you so there isn't a problem. This will make it so much easier on all of you to handle what's needed. Before we go, I’ll do that,” she told him, smiling a little.“While I have you here—is there anything you want before we start chucking things out? The shite that's dangerous is going, no matter what it is, but if there's something you want to keep, tell me now.” He said, looking at her.“The paintings and tapestry if you can get it down,” she said with a nod. “I'll repair the tapestry if you can get it to me. It’s something I would really like to have.”“If we can get it down,” Sirius assured her. “We're not sure there, but are going to give it a helluva shot. Bill looked at it and gave us a couple of things to try. Snape's going to make an attempt as well. Hopefully, we can. If we do, I'll get them to Lucius to pass along to you.”“They will be greatly appreciated,” she told him with a smile. Looking at her husband, who she saw nod, she then looked around and said, “After talking, Lucius, Severus and I've decided we need to fill Draco in on the basics of what's going on before the summer ends. He needs to know to not only start to protect himself, but so he's aware of how complex this is. Right now, because he doesn't, he may end up making a misstep we can't afford.”“I agree,” Lucius said, looking around, seeing concerned looks there. “Severus and I were talking about that anyway when Narcissa brought it up to me. We can't have him going on the way he is still. That's only going to harm all of us if he does.”“We're concerned that with Harry not going back, it might end up worse and have him being drawn into something else thinking it will further an agenda that isn't there,” Severus said, leaning forward and clasping his hands on the table.Glancing at Remus, who looked apprehensive, then to Harry, who was looking at him, Sirius said, “I get that, I really do, but we have a lot of things here we need to keep quiet. That's my concern.”“We'll ensure he doesn't say anything to anyone,” Narcissa told him firmly. “Sirius, we're really worried that when it comes out that Severus is one of Harry's guardians that the jealousy is going to grow. If we say nothing and hide some of this, it might make what's already there even worse on his end because he won't know the reason. We don't want that to happen.”
“Severus and I are going to cover it with him, the basics anyway, and ensure he understands,” Lucius told them, looking around. “Between both of us, we can make it clear why without giving all the details he doesn't need.”“When they do that, we're then going to try to have everyone over for a dinner so Draco can see that he has nothing to fear there. He may not like the relationship with Lucius, but will handle that better than letting this go on,” Narcissa explained.“It's also going to prove to him that what is there with Harry and myself is just as it seems, nothing else.” Snorting, Severus smirked then said, “And that Harry has his hands full and won't even look in my direction.”“There is that,” Harry muttered, grinning just a little.“We also need to give him the basic knowledge of what we're trying so when we do come up with something to get us out, he's not going to fight it, thinking it may be a devious plot to trick him. We need him to know so he goes along,” Lucius explained. “Our thought was also so he trusts you, Remus and Harry if we need to put him somewhere safe for a time, even if it's just the very basic bare bones of that. We need something here as the Dark Lord is growing worse with each passing day. My son has no idea how bad this is as we've shielded him from the worst of it.”“I can appreciate that,” Remus said with a nod. “I'm mostly worried about Sirius and his precarious position here. That we don't want to risk for anything.”
“We'll make sure he's safe,” Severus assured him. “Lucius and I, both, are going to do what we can to get hold of Pettigrew then have him in the hands of someone that can do something before we have some kind of escape plan in place here. I'm concerned that Draco is going to make the situation worse if what's there goes unchecked. He needs the reality of what's going on, including that Lucius and myself, both, want out. I don't think he even has a clue that's what's going on.”Taking that all in, Sirius gave a slow nod then said, “Alright, I understand and think you should if you're sure we're not going to make something already bad, worse. We don't need any help here as we have two sides to this mess to start with. Someone helping either one isn't going to make this any better.”“Trust us, we'll make sure he doesn't step into the realm of anything foolish,” Severus told him firmly.“The emancipation will hit the papers, Sirius, including the guardians, though it's not supposed to. I'm going to bet that Fudge will make sure that they are named to discredit Albus. And if Draco sees that before we can explain, we'll have huge problems. We want to head it off at the pass,” Lucius explained, looking at his lover. “We also don't want him thinking that Harry is getting this because it's favoritism in some way. That will also make it worse, then he may end up doing something that we can't counter. This is for the best, we all agree.”“I didn't think of that,” Sirius admitted with a sigh and shake of his head. “Do what you lot have to and we'll back you up from there.”“We'll ensure it,” Severus told him firmly with a nod. Looking at Lucius, he then glanced back around and said, changing topics, “I mentioned to Lucius what Harry brought up to us about the Ministry as he's better at this than we are.”“He did,” Lucius nodded. “It's a tricky situation, I'll be the first to admit this. I'm going to step in here a little and see if I can't push Fudge to back off Harry then tell the Dark Lord that's what I'm doing to aid the 'cause'. He'll go for that as it'll focus on Albus and cause him problems, something he wants. Harry made it clear that he wants nothing to do with Albus, that's going to get out, we know it. The Dark Lord already knows that, something he likes. Then I'm going to mention Amos and what he's doing to see if I can't get Fudge to push the Prophet to back off Harry. I care not about Albus there. The old man can handle himself in that area. I think my best shot is going to be that I mention to Fudge that he doesn't want Harry sending Amos after him or the Prophet, either one. With what Harry's already accomplished, he's going to know that's a battle he can't win and will just look horrible when it comes out what he's taking after because of what Harry's been through. If that doesn't work, I'm going to say let Amos have at both of them with everything at his disposal. I don't think it'll come to that, though. If I play this right, Fudge is going to see Harry backing away as something that's only going to help him with Albus. Is that acceptable?”Looking at Sirius and Remus, who were both nodding, Harry glanced back at Lucius and said, “Works for me. Go for it. What about Umbridge? Is she going to be a problem on my end? I'm not there so I'm not going to have to deal with that part, but you never know.”“If I can get Fudge to back off, he'll make sure she does as well,” Lucius told him, giving his leg a pat. “She's one that will follow wherever he leads. This won't help Albus in any way, but it should you, Harry. That's the only thing I'm concerned about here.”“As long as it stops, I don't care,” Harry told him truthfully.“I should be able to manage that without anyone thinking anything is off here,” Lucius assured him.Glancing around, Narcissa asked, quietly, “Does anyone have any idea about something we can do to get us all out of this mess? I would prefer to just end it as soon as we can before it gets any worse and we're in more danger than we already are.”“We have nothing, Cissy,” Sirius admitted with a shake of his head. “We've been trying to come up with something, somewhere, but haven't managed anything that's workable, anywhere. That's our next focus, but I have no idea what to do here.”“The only thing Severus and I have come up with that could get us out involves leaving the country,” Lucius said, looking around. “That is something that sounds good to both of us. However, the issue comes in with transferring assets and all manner of other things that leave a trail many could trace. To even ponder that step is going to involve three of us starting a mass transfer of assets now into something we can use if we go elsewhere. Remus and Severus aren't an issue here. Harry, Sirius and I are as that's going to be a huge undertaking and noticeable. Until I can come up with something that can manage that, we can't chance it. However, Sirius and I, both, agreed that this is now our main focus. We'll find a way, somehow, to get us out.”“I'm going to say now that I think we need something before this year is done,” Severus told everyone quietly. “This is getting bad and none of us have any idea what the Dark Lord may be planning here. Dumbledore is just as bad. Between the two of them, we need something, somewhere. Even if it's not a permanent solution.”“Let Remus, Harry and I put our heads together and see what we can do here to come up with something. I don't know what it might be, though. We will accomplish it in the end as we always do. It's just a delicate dance when it comes to so much,” Sirius sighed, shaking his head.
“We know,” Narcissa sighed, shaking her head. “We just want out, all of us. I understand the issue and will look on my end too. Maybe I can find something that will give us a leaning on what to try or where to look. I don't know.” Changing topics, smiling, she began to ask what they were going to do about Harry's schooling and questioning him about some things he liked.
At about three in the morning, they were standing in the kitchen saying goodbye. Narcissa had bound the elves to Sirius and they were already working on cleaning some areas. Slipping an arm around Harry, Lucius pulled him closer then said, “I'll send a couple presents along tomorrow in the basket for you. They are things you don't want to open in front of everyone and are from Sirius and me, both. You'll like them, I promise.”
Leaning against Lucius, Harry nodded, smiling, “Alright, thanks.”
Inclining his head, Lucius kissed the young man softly then, holding him close, leaned over and kissed Sirius as well. “We'll talk tomorrow sometime.”Though flushing at that, glancing at Narcissa, who was just smiling, Harry nodded.Stepping over to them, Narcissa gave Sirius a hug and kiss. Looking at Harry, she smiled then hugged him and gave him a kiss on the temple, “Happy Birthday, Harry. Don't let Sirius get you into trouble.”Grinning, Harry hugged her back then said, “I won't, Narcissa, thank you.”“Maybe come up with something that's like a teacher's edition that does other things to help and give it to him as a bribe,” Harry said. “'Cause I guarantee you even give up some of the secrets there and those two will run with it, managing to recreate it.”
“Yeah, we could do something like that. He could get an advance copy or something and have a sadistically good time issuing detentions before they put it on the market. He'd enjoy that!” Giving Harry a squeeze, he said, “Especially since he doesn't have you around anymore to issue all of them to.”“Yeah, well, I liked my detentions with him. I learned all kinds of things when he issued them. Plus, it got me out of so much other crap and allowed me to be down there where it was quiet to work.” Harry admitted. “I always just made noises about horrific things he supposedly had me doing without actually saying that's what I did.”“You mean like the two weeks he gave you for you telling Lockhart he was a menace to Wizarding society and needed his wand snapped?” Sirius asked, laughing. “He told us about that while snorting and trying not to laugh.”“He was!” Harry said, shaking his head. “And I said that after the bloody idiot vanished every bone in my arm. Besides, that's the best detention I ever served in my life. I learned to duel, tasted butterbeer for the first time and he taught me all kinds of interesting charms. We just let people think he was torturing me.” Harry admitted, grinning from ear to ear.“And he talks about me being a bad influence on you!” Sirius laughed, shaking his head.“Severus is just as bad as you are, Padfoot,” Remus told him, grinning. “He and Harry just let everyone think what they wanted while they went about their business. If you wanted to find Harry, you just went to the Potions lab and he was there doing something interesting that was not the least bit detention-worthy.”“He's great,” Harry grinned. “And he doesn't get enough credit for all he does.”“I bet he's going to love it even more this year when his house has a chance at the cup with you gone,” Sirius snickered, shaking his head and guiding Harry up to his room,“Probably! That's about the only thing he groused at when it came to me,” Harry told him, allowing himself to be steered along.“Minerva is going to be in mourning at losing you,” Remus said, shaking his head, still smiling. “And Severus will celebrate. It should be most interesting!”
