Chapter 19
After looking over the note Harry passed to him, Lucius then glanced at the shut door to the en suite and nodded. Smirking slightly, he said, “I'll get my hands on some foodstuffs worthy of such a celebration, you have my word. The same with a bottle of champagne. When I get back, I'll pass it to Remus so it's a surprise.” Smirking bigger, he added, “I'll pick up a couple gifts from the two of us as well and pass them along.”
“Good,” Harry grinned, nodding. “Remus thought you could do a better job picking out something than he could when it came to that bit, other than the basics. He's going out to get steaks with all the fixings for that part.” From what Remus said when he popped down after getting a note from him, the signed papers for Sirius' pardon came in with the mail. So, they wanted to do something special for him that night for supper.“I'll ensure that it doesn't look odd Remus procured them as well,” Lucius assured him.“He also told me to pass along to you that we can expect plenty more than normal over all during the day, as well as for supper. And that you should just stay on your toes about that as he doesn't know who will come around,” Harry passed along.“I'll stay wary,” Lucius told him with a nod. He didn't expect issues, of course, as he had been around many of them before, but it was always good to stay alert when you were with a crowd and fair warning was most appreciated. Quirking his lips, he asked, “Sirius doesn't know that the papers came, does he?”“No,” Harry chuckled, grinning bigger this time. “I'm sure he expects them, but it'll be a good surprise for him.”“An assessment I wholeheartedly agree with,” Lucius nodded. “I shan't say a word to him.” This was good, though, and furthered their plans to get where they needed when it came to the timeline. Perfect. Plus, it would make Sirius happy. Another bonus after having to put up with so much for so long.Glancing at the bathroom door again, wondering how long before Sirius was done, Harry looked back at Lucius. He had a couple questions for him, but didn't want to embarrass the man by asking in front of Sirius. Deciding that they probably had enough time, he said, “I have a couple things I want to ask about while we're alone.” Seeing Lucius motion for him to continue, Harry pressed on, “It's about me holding you as your cat. It doesn't bother you, does it? I mean, I do understand why you have me do that part of the time. You let me and others as well, at least in a way with sitting on their lap and allowing them to pet you. The same with mucking about like we did with Padfoot yesterday.” Hastily, he added, “I really like it, of course, that's obvious, I just don't want to continue if you don't.”That was something Lucius didn't have to think about. Reaching over, he put a hand on Harry's head and rubbed it softly. Smirking a little, he said, “I enjoy it as well. The emotions and whatnot we all deal with normally aren't as pronounced or complex in that form. I remember Sirius talking about that when it came to how he survived Azkaban. It's something I can now assure you is correct. While I don't partake in such shows of emotions normally, as Hobbes it's fine. In fact, I enjoy it when you hold and pet me. The same with the brushing, something obvious, and what we did yesterday. It was easy to feel the good vibrations, if you would, from all three of us while we mucked about.” Softening his tone, he added, “And I can easily tell it's something that helps you in a myriad of ways. Not only is it something you use to deal with the stresses that are coming from this mess, but you enjoy it as well. I take no issue with you holding, petting, whatnot, Hobbes. Some of it, as we all know, comes from the bond, but there are other parts as well. Those I take no issue with either. Partake if you want. Besides, it looks good for all and sundry to see you doing such behaviors. The same with the mucking about. That way no one gets suspicious or starts to look too closely.”“Good,” Harry said with a relieved sigh. “I just didn't want to continue if it bugged you is all.”“If you do something that does bother me, I'll let you know telepathically. I honestly don't see that happening,” Lucius chuckled. He was pleased with this, though, as Harry was proving he was thinking about how he might feel about areas, something that could only help in the future. Communication would be the key to helping ease the way for so much to come. As it was starting now, he had hopes that any rough patches that would come could be dealt with the right way.Settling back, he said, “I think we should try to get you to manifest your Animagus form as well. Because Sirius and I have both succeeded, we can assist you. Not only could it be useful in many areas, but I'm sure it's something you would enjoy learning.”“I would,” Harry grinned at him. “I've wanted to since learning Sirius was able to do that.”“We can most assuredly add that to your lessons,” Lucius nodded, making a mental note of it. Pressing on, he said, “Now, I say that we go take a look at the backyard this afternoon to see how much the elves have accomplished. As it's a nice day and I'm sure you're sick of being cooped up, we might want to spend time out there once I get back.”“Sounds good to me,” Harry told him, liking the idea. “Even just sitting around in the fresh air would be nice.”“I thought as much. If the elves haven't gotten far with cleaning it, we can easily assure they have somewhere for us to just sit and relax, protecting us from whatever nastiness might be out there.” He planned to get with Sirius to see what had been accomplished out there and have the man set the elves to the task. After all, just relaxing outside on a beautiful day was wonderful.
Grinning from ear to ear as he read through the papers from his solicitor, Sirius nodded. “I'm cleared, completely cleared! It'll be in the papers tomorrow. I have not only the pardon papers, but proof reparations went into my vault. The nightmare is over!”Leaning against Sirius while holding and petting Hobbes, Harry grinned as well as he read over his shoulder. “This is great!”“It is,” Sirius said, passing the papers over to the smiling Remus. Ruffling Harry's hair, he said, “We don't have to worry about this crap anymore. That's good!”“It is,” Remus agreed, nodding as he smiled. Looking over the letter, he said, “We'll have a celebratory dinner. It's certainly warranted. I'll go out and pick up something good that's worthy of the occasion. Don't worry, it'll be wonderful!”“Yeah, we need to do something,” Sirius said, unable to wipe the grin off his face. “Steak is good, too! Whatever you think for that I'm good with.”“Nothing to worry about,” Remus told him, a smile still on his face. “We'll get you something good.” Quietly, he added, “Molly is making you a cake to celebrate as well. Arthur sent a message about that earlier. I'm not sure if she and the brood are coming over or not, but she wanted to do something for you. I think, maybe, it's her way of making up for the debacle.”“That's fine, too,” Sirius nodded. “As long as no one starts any shite, I'm good with it.”“I'll see if I can get in touch with Arthur to figure out what they are planning. From what I know, the word is already being spread that you're cleared, so we can expect plenty of company today,” Remus told him so he could prepare.“And that's fine as well,” Sirius chuckled. Taking the letter back from Remus, he said, “I'm framing this damned thing and putting it up for all to see. I know everyone that comes in the house knows it, but it's still the idea of having the official confirmation.”“An impulse I can completely understand,” Remus chuckled, smiling. Pressing on, he began to ask about plans for the day so he knew what was going on before going out to attend to whatever. That way he could prepare for anything odd Sirius or Harry would want him to pick up.
Brow furrowed as he looked down at Hobbes, Remus allowed himself to be nudged along towards the back of the house. He wasn't sure what was going on, only that the cat seemed to want him to go in this direction, nudging him that way with his head, meowing loudly. Assuming there was a reason for that, he went with it, though he was highly curious.
Once in one of the very back rooms, Lucius transformed back and warded it heavily so that no one could come in. Pulling out a couple of shrunken packages, he said, “I wanted to pass these along. Not only did I pull out a bottle of Pol Roger from my private stocks, something I thought fitting, there is some caviar and other bits to add to the celebration. I also picked up a couple presents from Harry and myself. The tag will say from Harry to most that view it, but Sirius will be able to see who it's really from. It was my thought to pass it along to you so you can concoct a story as to how you came about them, as I know you're going out to pick up the makings of the feast.”As Lucius has just returned, Remus now understood and gave a firm nod. “I'll get them to the elves so no one is the wiser. Tonks is coming with me to the Alley, so I'll make sure to go into a couple places where I would get such items. Thank you, Lucius.”“I thought you would have company, so I wanted to pass them along before you went. You do have a way to ensure it doesn't look odd to have the money to pay, don't you?” Lucius asked, knowing some of what he passed Lupin was expensive.“Nothing to worry about,” Remus told him with a wave of his hand. “Harry gave me quite a bit of money for me to pick up what was needed. So did Sirius. Others have chipped in a fair sum as well. It won't look odd.”“Good,” Lucius sighed with a relieved nod of his head. “I just wanted to pass them to you and won't chance staying this way with all the people about.” Seeing Remus nod, he then changed back and meowed before strutting out to find Harry.Watching Lucius go, Remus chuckled and shook his head. Quickly, he went through the packages to see what was there, other than the presents, so he knew what to appear like he was getting when out, then summoned an elf to pass them along. That was good, though, and Sirius would most assuredly appreciate the gesture.
“How are you feeling, Severus?” Albus asked as he took a seat in the man's library. From what he could see, the scratches were healed, so he assumed he was fine, but wanted to check.Scowling, Severus snapped, “I'm fine.” What he didn't add was his back still stung, badly. The scratch marks on it were in places he couldn't reach to heal them. That meant they had to heal on their own with the help of an ointment he could apply with a spell. Shifting in his chair, he tried not to wince as his clothes rubbed against the healing wounds. “That cat—I'm hexing it, Albus!”“No, you need to leave the cat alone,” Albus told him with a shake of his head. Sighing, he said, “I'll talk to Sirius about allowing you back in the house. We need you, and the information you have, so you're required to be there. Before I do, though, I need your word you'll stop with the comments, Severus. I passed along what Sirius said to you, yet you ignored it. This was the result.”Sneering, Severus snorted, “Black doesn't have the right to dictate what I can and can't say, Albus.”“In that house he does,” Albus told him softly. “It's his property. He's allowing us to use it. So, he does have the right to take umbrage to some of what's said, then not allow various people in the house. Keep that in mind. I do know there are issues between the two of you, but a truce needs put in place, from both your ends. What we're dealing with transcends rivalries. We can't be effective if debacles like last night take place. That just means that you don't poke, nothing more.”Folding his arms over his chest so tightly they ached, Severus glowered at the old man. He said nothing, though, not liking the situation.“Severus, you know what we're facing. If it means not antagonizing to get what we want out of this, it's not a huge imposition. We can't do anything if you and Sirius keep this up. He's assured all of us that if anyone does it, he's throwing them out. So, it's not just directed at you.” Albus sighed, trying to figure out how to get the situation to stop so they could press on.“I will try,” Severus ground out, looking thunderous.“You need to do more than try, Severus,” Albus told him pointedly. “Calling Sirius names, like you did with the molester comment, is uncalled for. Anyone would take offense at being called that name. You were also told, plainly, what would come of it if you did. I made sure you knew. Yet you did it despite that. Don't you think it's time it stopped? I do admit that I should have done more while you were in school to put an end to so much, but that was almost two decades ago. It's past time it was pushed aside so that we can focus on what we're facing. We can't do that if these sorts of incidences take place. I do understand what happened with the cat was bad, but you were told it was coming. You may not have taken it seriously, but everyone else did when it was imparted. The result is what happened. Just assure me you'll temper your normal impulses and I'll do what I can with Sirius to allow you back in the house.”“Fine,” Severus snorted, glaring at the man. However, he was also vowing that he was hexing that cat the first chance he got. All there was to it.Reaching out and patting Severus on the knee, Albus said, “Let me talk to Sirius. Most of us are going over there tonight to celebrate him being cleared. I'll see what I can manage with him.”“You do that,” Severus told him flatly, hating the mere idea. He did understand Albus' reasonings, though, so he would try. Black just needed to temper it on his end and they might manage.
Feeling the breeze ruffle his hair, Sirius leaned back in the chair he was sitting in, slipping an arm around Harry's shoulders. This was absolutely perfect. They were having the meal they discussed, but the backyard had been cleaned out, so they decided to do it out here instead. And it was wonderful. The elves had made damned sure that it was not only cleaned out, the lawn was taken care of and the shrubbery cut just right, but there were lanterns out here along with the standard spells up to keep insects away. And it felt wonderful. It was still on the hot side, of course, but the breeze made up for it, cooling all of them down.Picking up his fork, he took a few more bites of the steak then put it down with a groan, grinning. “I'm stuffed,” he chuckled. And he was. The spread laid out was huge. Not only was it massive, it was nobby food the likes of which he hadn't had since he was a kid. Grabbing his glass of champagne, he sipped it, adoring the taste. He would have to thank Lucius later for the bottle because it was great. One glance over at Harry, though, had him chuckling. His godson apparently didn't have a high opinion of caviar. In fact, one taste had him making a face and shoving it aside. Instead, he was now feeding it to Hobbes with the small silver spoon that came with it. Shaking his head, he didn't say a word. After all, Lucius provided the stuff, so he probably liked the taste. Though Lucius couldn't partake in the feast the normal way, he and Harry, both, made sure that the man got his fair share off their plates. And the elves had served him up an overflowing plate of the feast before they came down. Which was good.“The cat is eating caviar,” Kingsley snorted, shaking his head as he watched Harry. “If that doesn't tell you spoiled, I don't know what does!”“I don't like it, so there's no reason for it to go to waste,” Harry told him with a grin as he fed more to the loudly purring Hobbes.“Harry does have a point there,” Remus chuckled. Levitating the presents that had been delivered throughout the day, he put them in front of Sirius. “You might as well get to those while we wait for the cake. I'm not sure who's bringing that over.”Grinning more, Sirius straightened up then went to work. Most in there were just small things, joke items he would get a kick out of and the lot, but two weren't and were special. Harry had gotten him a broom. He knew how his godson loved to fly and how they had talked about playing games on the broom when they could. This was enough to tell him that Harry was serious about that. The other was from Lucius. It was silk pajamas, a silk robe and some slippers. All were obviously expensive. However, there was one joke item in there. From the tag, he could see it was from the both of them. It was a t-shirt with the likeness of a snarling Padfoot on the front emblazoned with the words Harry's Guard Dog on it. Grinning, he pulled Harry close and said, “Thank you.” Giving his godson a kiss on the side of the head, he muttered to where only the two could hear, “Both of you.”“You're welcome,” Harry said, grinning as Lucius meowed loudly. Chuckling, he said, “Since the backyard is cleaned out, we can fly a little.”“We can and will,” Sirius assured him, making a mental note to get Harry a new broom for his birthday so they were on equal footing when it came to that. He was also happy to have the broom for not only being able to muck about with Harry, but flying was something he really missed, something Harry knew. So, the present wasn't a selfish one because Harry knew he planned to buy himself one.Thanking those that had given him something, Sirius looked up when the backdoor opened. Then he was concerned in regards to who was there. Not only was Albus coming out, so were all the Weasleys and Hermione. That he didn't know about as he couldn't judge what their reaction would be to so much. However, he chuckled at the cake shaped like a big, bear-like dog Molly levitated out. “Oh, that looks good!” He said.Though still plenty upset over the relationship, Molly kept it to herself, not even having a tight look on her face. Smiling, she said, “I thought you needed something special.”Having the elves clear off all the plates, except Harry's as he was still feeding bits to Hobbes, Sirius straightened up and waited. As good of a cook as Molly was, that cake was going to be delicious!Chuckling as he took a seat by Fleur, Bill watched Harry feeding the cat. Shaking his head, he asked, “Is that actually caviar that you're feeding the cat, Harry?”Grinning, Harry nodded then explained the why behind it. Shrugging, he said, “No sense in it going to waste.”Snorting, Bill told him, “This is beyond spoiled, you know that, right?”“I admit it,” Harry told him with a sheepish look and a shrug.Looking at Ron then Harry, Hermione wasn't sure what to say. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had explained to all of them what was going on. It was just so odd to think that Harry and Sirius were in a relationship. Ginny, of course, was hurt because of the crush. It was just—strange. Mr. Weasley made it clear that they weren't to treat or talk to Harry differently. He also made it just as clear that if they made any untoward remarks, that they wouldn't be allowed to come over. She was going to honor that. Besides, this was still Harry, her friend. Sighing, she said, “That cat is still so beautiful.”“I like him,” Harry smiled, petting the purring Lucius.“And so spoiled,” Kingsley laughed. “And I mean spoiled, by both Harry and Sirius.”“We're allowed,” Sirius grinned, taking the plates of cake Molly passed to him. So far this was good. Molly wasn't saying anything, but that was better than her losing her temper. As long as it continued on like this, they'd be fine.Poking at his cake, not sure what to make of the situation as it was the first time he had to face Harry since finding out, Ron asked, quietly, “You can't go back to school this year?”“No, I can't. Sirius would have to come with me. So, I can't,” Harry shrugged. He wasn't used to Ron being this quiet, but he would deal with it.“Which means you have to help us figure out what to do about Quidditch and your position,” the youngest Weasley male said in all seriousness.Chuckling, Harry said, “Not sure what to do there, sorry. You'll have to find someone.”“We'll make sure to write to you over the year,” Hermione told him between bites of the cake. “And keep you filled in on what's going on.”“I'd like that,” Harry told her truthfully, taking a couple bites of the wonderful chocolate cake. Nodding, he said, looking at Mrs. Weasley, “This is delicious!”“Thank you, Harry,” Molly told him with a big smile. “What kind of cake do you want for your birthday? Chocolate or something else?”Thinking that over seriously, Harry asked, “Can I get white cake? I like that.”“I can do that. I'll make sure it's something special,” Molly assured him, still smiling. After that, the tensions seemed to break and the noise level rose like normal. That was good as far as Sirius was concerned. It meant much was returning to normal, something they all needed.
“What was it Albus wanted from you?” Lucius asked, relaxing in his chair after they came up for the night.
Flopping on the bed with a groan, feeling overstuffed from all he had eaten, Sirius grinned, “'Talking' me into letting Snape back in the house. Though I made him work for it, he managed. He also swore the arse will temper his mouth.”“Like that will happen,” Harry snorted, leaning against Sirius after sitting down by him.“It won't and we all know it,” Sirius chuckled. “It'll look good, though, as he pulled out every legitimate reason out there. It would have looked odd if I said no, so I went with it.”“Which is what we need,” Lucius smirked, crossing his legs.“It is,” Sirius nodded. “I'm sure he'll be the one that sets off the 'final straw' for me. There will be others, no doubt, but he's the big one. Molly—not sure there. Whatever Arthur did seems to have worked. As long as she keeps it to herself, the same with the younger ones, we're fine.” Changing topics, he asked, “How much longer until the house is done? Do you know?”“We're looking right around the start of term,” Lucius told him. “I've got the elves going as fast as I can. The Wardmasters are doing what they have to. It should be up to snuff by then. We just need Severus to set you off and for you to shut the house. If you do that a week before I'm certain we're ready for habitation, it'll be perfect timing.”“Let me know when we get to that point and we can push it in some way or set someone off. I'm sure we can manage that one.” Sirius grinned. “Or set something up with Tom to poke enough that everyone is on high alert and tempers strained then Snape is more apt to blow.”“We can easily manage that, I'm sure,” Lucius told him with a smug smirk.Flopping on his back with a groan, Sirius groused, “I ate too much. It was damned good, though!”“It was,” Harry chuckled, shaking his head.“I could get used to eating like that, though I'd end up waddling from being so fat,” Sirius snickered, pulling Harry down with him.“You will get used to it as it's my normal fare,” Lucius told him, looking smug as he did.“Harry, I think we're both going to end up fat,” Sirius said nudging his godson.“Oh yeah,” Harry grinned. “Which means we need to work it off somehow.”“I think we can manage that,” Lucius snorted. “In normal ways as well. We'll have plenty of room to muck about with plenty of things. Then there is the schoolwork and other areas. We'll be fine.”Looking up, Sirius grinned at Lucius, “You're spoiling us!”“And that's not a bad thing after all the both of you have been through,” Lucius shot right back, smirking again. And it wasn't. It also felt good to do such a thing for the two people now in his life forever. That he could and would do. After all, the two did that for him in their own way. He would just return the favor.
