Chapter 19
Holding Harry close as they curled up in the bed they shared, Sirius kissed him again. It wasn't the kind of passionate snogging they did when the encounter looked to turn into something heavily sexual, but soft, gentle ones as he held Harry. Harry was holding him back, curled up tightly to his body.
Breaking off the snogging, he looked down at the younger man then reached out and ran his fingers through Harry's hair. Smiling, he asked, “I assume you don't want to press it any further today.” It was a couple days after the surgery. Though Harry was feeling better, he figured that he wasn't in the mood for anything else. Sometimes, though, with Harry the signals were hard to read. Oh, there were plenty of times it was blatant and he made it clear that he either wanted to or didn't, but others were harder to judge. This was one of those times. So, like always, it was best to ask before pressing on.“Naw, not wanting sex. Just this,” Harry said, arms wrapped around Sirius. “It feels plenty good and I'm not in shape to do anything sexual.” The last part was admitted quietly. Resting his head on Sirius' shoulder, he smiled a little. “This feels just as good in its own way,” he added. This was one thing about Sirius he adored; he always asked what he wanted. No one before him did that. Sirius always made sure he asked what he wanted and went by that. Oh, there were times that Sirius started and he went with it, the same with the other way around, but if he said stop, Sirius did without a question.“It does,” Sirius conceded, kissing him on top of the head and holding him close. Letting his hand drift down, he stroked Harry's back softly, making sure to be careful not to touch anywhere that was still healing. “Just curling up and holding each other is always good with me.” Lying there, not sure what else to say, Sirius thought it over then asked, “Is there anything you want to do? I mean around the house. Most bits are out with how you feel, obviously, but I'm sure we could find something so you don't go barmy being a layabout.”“I'm actually good with being a layabout,” Harry sighed, not moving though his hand drifted up and began to trace the tattoos on Sirius' chest. “I'm not much interested in moving about yet. Anything that pulls on what's healing makes it hurt all the more. Lying about is good until that stops.”
Flopping down in a chair at the kitchen table, James groaned and shook his head. Waiting for Albus to take a seat, he looked at Lily then said, “We've got something arranged for Maggie since we can't find anyone to watch her while we're in court. I don't trust her staying here with just Bones either.”
Folding her hands on the table, Lily looked between the two and asked, quietly, “What are we doing? I don't want her sitting in the courtroom and hearing any of this mess.”“We don't either,” Albus sighed, shaking his head. “Our solicitors have managed to arrange for her to stay in a waiting room off the courtroom with Bones. They will have a couple Aurors in there with her to ensure she doesn't get into trouble. It's the kind of thing they do for children that have to testify.”Though she didn't like the idea, Lily gave a sigh and nodded. Looking between the two, she asked, voice hushed, “We're not going to end up blindsided, are we?” I mean, we all know heavy fines are coming, but we haven't heard of anything else.”“That's all we are getting,” Albus said, reaching over to give her hand a reassuring pat. “They can't levy anything else. The only other bit that might come is a rather scathing lecture from the panel. In fact, with what I know, we can expect that.”“Another one,” James groaned, head dropping back.“Considering what Harry lived through, I think we can easily tolerate a lecture, James,” Lily told him softly, shaking her head. “In fact, I would say we're getting off rather easy with just a lecture.”“I do agree,” Albus conceded with a sigh.“Do you know if Harry's attending? Or didn't anyone say anything about that?” She asked, glancing between the two men.“We don't know,” James told her, slouching after lifting his head. “They didn't say and we got rather scathing looks when we asked. What we do know is Remus, Snape, Sirius, Lucius, and Narcissa are going to be there. We aren't sure if they'll be allowed to say anything or not, but they'll be there. Which won't be nice, especially when it comes to Sirius and anything he might say.”“We'll handle it as it's deserved as well,” Albus told them, shaking his head. “That was a huge mistake on all our parts that cost him many years of his life he has no way of getting back.” Sobering up, he pressed on, “Our solicitor brought up something we didn't think of as well. And I think it's something we need to be quite concerned about.”“What's that?” Lily asked, looking between the two, not liking the look on their faces.“If Harry decides to civilly sue us, we're all in real trouble and he can take about everything we have. Even the accounts overseas. They can put a freeze on them and we would have no way to get access to the money,” James told her, scrubbing a hand through his hair.Looking alarmed, Lily asked, tone hushed, “How likely is he to do that or has he started?”“That we don't know,” Albus admitted with a shake of his head, stroking his beard. “It's one—our solicitor is trying to find out the leanings on that. If it looks like that's something Severus and Remus, as Harry's parents, are starting, we need to settle, fast. It's something we won't win.”“Oh Merlin, no,” Lily said, tone slightly strangled, wringing her hands.“Oh, yes,” James groused. “That's a nightmare waiting to happen. There is no shot in hell we want to try to fight something like that. We would get our arses handed to us. Our solicitor made that right clear in the strongest possible language. Even reading into evidence all Harry went through from police reports would end up with us losing. They wouldn't have to call him as a witness to get across what our actions caused.”“Our solicitors haven't seen any hint that they are starting such actions and he doesn't want to poke, but he's trying to find out,” Albus sighed. “Let's see what happens.”Shaking her head, Lily didn't know what to say. This nightmare just grew with each passing day. Straightening her shoulders, she pressed on to something else, not wanting to ponder how bad this could get if Harry, Remus, or Severus decided to take that step, “We got another letter from Harry's therapist. He wants to set up another meeting after we go back to court. I used my initiative to agree and let him find a suitable date.”“I don't want to deal with that shite again either,” James moaned, folding his arms over his chest.“You need to, though,” Albus told him. “In the long run it can only help everyone involved, James.”“I know, I really do. It's just—I'm not sure how much more I can take if it's worse than the last time,” James admitted, shaking his head.“It's something that can help at some point, James. I do realize it's rough, but it's something we may well need in the future. It at least gives us a base to work with when it comes to Harry and understanding where he is, then how to deal with him when the full fight we know is building comes. We can't help protect him if we don't know what's going on with him.”“And I want to know,” Lily told her husband softly. “It's not nice, I know that, but we helped cause it. So, I think it's only right we have to sit and listen to what our actions brought on.”“Understood,” James sighed, though not looking forward to anything to dealing with Snape and Remus again. That—it was plenty bad. And he hated it. Changing topics, he asked, “Is there anything we need to know about what you've learned, Albus? I know you're looking into signs and seeing what they mean.”“There is plenty,” Albus said, taking a cup of tea from an elf. Doctoring it up how he liked, he then popped a lemon sherbert in his mouth and took a drink. “I'm trying to decipher what they can mean for us.” He then began to run both of them through what he learned. This alone meant that they had to put up with whatever was thrown at them because he was sure the full fight with Tom was coming very soon.
“What do you think when it comes to that, Lucius?” Severus asked, pushing the papers over to his old friend. They had come from their solicitor as the man was wondering what they wanted to do about a civil suit.“Harry doesn't need the money,” Remus told the man softly. “It's just—we think it's the only kind of justice he'll get out of this mess. Court isn't going to give that to Harry. We can start it as we're his parents, we just aren't sure if we want to. Anything like this will end up a long, protracted litigation that we aren't sure we want to put Harry through. He'll end up getting drawn in if we do.”Looking through the letter that came with the papers, Lucius shook his head, not sure what to advise. “I do understand that this is a justice that Harry won't get any other way, but if they fight it, it's something that will end up with Harry being pulled in and forced to testify. I'm not sure if that's wise. The questions he could end up being asked might not help anything when it comes to what he's dealing with.”Leaning against her husband, looking at what he was holding, Narcissa said, “If they were smart and you do start a suit, they will settle. They have to realize this won't be something they can win. Especially with what they are pleading guilty to.”“There is that,” Lucius agreed with a nod. Putting the papers down, he said, “I'm going to suggest you ask Harry what he wants. I'm sure the two of you could go forward without him, but he'll end up pulled in no matter how you go about it because of his age. As it's him that had to suffer and would have to relive it, it might be best to see what he says.”“I think we'll go about it that way and abide by his choice,” Severus said, folding his hands on the table. Looking down and shaking his head, he added, “I will admit that I want petty revenge and to go forward as what's coming in court isn't nearly enough punishment for all Harry suffered through.”“I think most of us do, Severus,” Remus told his husband softly. “I admit to the same impulse myself. This will hurt in a way court won't. Sirius—his idea is that he wants someone to lock him in a room with the three for an hour to exact his revenge that way. I'm sure, since he knows that's something that won't come, that he would be all for this as well.”“We'll see what Harry wants then press on,” Severus sighed. Straightening up, he asked, “Draco is coming to the hearing? Filius didn't object?”“He'll be with us,” Lucius told him with a nod. “We'll go out for lunch after it's over then I'll get him back to the castle. Filius—when I spoke to him about Draco's request to come with us, he was more than happy to grant it. He said that he thought it was a closure to so much Draco wouldn't get any other way. So, I didn't have the issues I thought I would. Besides, I think it'll do both Draco and Harry good to spend some time together. Even if it's not for long.”“Very true,” Severus nodded, smirking slightly. “They'll both get something out of the time together that can help them.” Quietly, he asked, “How is it going on the front with the Potter children and him? Any changes there?”“Some,” Narcissa sighed then told him about what Draco wrote concerning the girl. Shaking her head, she told him, “He's not sure what to do with that end. He does admit that the girl isn't like the boy and he does believe her. There's also the fact that she apologized and he told us he was sure she meant it, though it wasn't her place to do so for much of it.”“You can tell him from us that we would prefer that none of that faction see the pictures,” Remus told her quietly, though with a firm tone. “I think I can speak for Severus when I say that we don't mind what he said about the surgery. The concern with that is understandable. Those pictures, though—no. Those are private for Draco. I do understand he likes to show them off, but we'd prefer that he not with those two as everything will surely get back to James and Lily then cause a mess.”“We'll pass that along and I'm quite sure he'll honor your request,” Lucius said with a nod. “I do see that point as well.”“None of this is the children's fault, we do understand that and don't want it to seem like we are punishing them, but we also realize that whatever is said or shown will end up getting back to the parents. We don’t want them involved,” Severus explained. “It's best not to dangle that temptation out there.”“I'll make sure I word it to him that way so he understands,” Narcissa assured him with a smile. Changing topics, she asked, “How is Harry doing? Better? I assume he is as we haven't heard anything to the contrary.”“As well as can be expected,” Remus smiled. “It's taking longer for him to recover this time because of what they did, but he's managing. He's just still in some pain from it, so he's not wanting to do much. Nothing we're worried about.”“Is the other end, what he was dealing with before the surgery, improving?” Lucius inquired, looking between the two. That hadn't been mentioned yet and he wanted to know.“No,” Severus admitted with a dour look. “The sleep he got has helped, but Black said the nightmares are still happening, though not as bad or frequent. He's at least getting more sleep, which is helping in some ways. I believe it's like Stuart said; it's just delaying what is coming, nothing more. Something, somewhere, is bound to set it off. We just hope it holds off until he feels better.”Not liking that, Narcissa shook her head and sighed. “At least he's gotten some relief from what he was dealing with. That has to help him some.”“It has, we admit that. The old Harry is back for the most part and he's not as withdrawn as he was. That's a positive sign. We just have to wait, nothing more, then deal with whatever happens. We've done that before and can do it again. As we have the tools to take it on, we'll manage.” Changing topics, he smiled a little then told her, “He's agreed to go meet the train.”“Oh, that is wonderful,” Narcissa told him, smiling, folding her hands on the table. “Draco will be so pleased!”“We were rather stunned that he did,” Severus admitted, smirking slightly. “I think he wants to see the train as he's heard all of us talk about it. Your plan is what we'll employ. As it gets close to the end of term, I'll go over and talk to Molly and Arthur about it. I'm sure they'll take no issue sticking close to keep people away.”“While I like the idea, we have to concern ourselves with the fact that James and Lily will be there,” Lucius said, looking around. “That we need to make a plan for. The minute they see Harry, there will be issues. I'm sure with their children as well, as it'll be the first time they've seen him.”“We'll come up with something for that,” Remus said, not having thought about that end. “As long as all of us stick close to Harry, there shouldn't be a problem. One of us can stand to where they can't see him and Harry won't be able to see them. Or we can employ a shield of some kind. Don't worry, we can manage between all of us.”“We will handle it,” Severus said, a determined bent to his voice. “This is the first time Harry's agreed to something such as this and we'll find a way to make it as easy on him as we can. It'll just take some thinking to work out the problem areas.” This was an event he wanted to give his son and make it to where he could enjoy it without having problems crop up. Harry didn't get the rites of passage all of them went through when you first went to school to learn magic, especially if you came from Muggle society. Seeing that train was a small thing in the scheme of so much, but he wanted his son to experience it. So much had been taken away from Harry that he should have experienced, that giving parts back, even if they weren't the same as he would have gotten if he had grown up normally, was something he wanted to do. Besides, the more forays like this Harry made, the better he would be and would grow from them. That could only help as well.“We will,” Lucius assured him. “I'll also send a missive to Filius about getting him into the castle after the term ends. He'll like that.”“That I want to see,” Remus smiled, thinking of Harry's reaction to the castle. “He will enjoy it.”“He will,” Narcissa agreed, smiling herself. “I think all of us want to go with him to see the expression on his face.”“I wouldn't miss it for the world,” Lucius admitted, smirking.“We'll manage this.” Severus said, determined bent to his voice. However, he loved the fact that they were finally getting Harry to agree to activities that he wouldn't have just a year ago. That he adored. And it was something that confirmed he was doing better. Sometimes, though they realized he was, the confirmation was nice to have. It gave them an idea of what worked so they could press on with that. This was one of those. Changing topics, he began to ask about what Lucius was hearing when it came to the Dark Lord. They were all hearing rumors, of course, things most in the Ministry, outside the DMLE that was, denied. As Lucius had contacts they didn't, he often heard bits they could use. Though all of them planned to stay out of this round when it finally blew up, they needed to know what was going on to protect Harry. So, he wanted kept abreast.
