Chapter 20
Percy couldn't stop pacing. He was at St. Mungo's outside of Hermione's room. The medi-witch had told him to leave the room as his worrying was adding additional stress to Hermione's situation.
He didn't even know what was going on. Was something wrong with her? Was something wrong with the baby? No one was telling him anything.
With a dejected sigh he sat down and buried his face in his hands. What if Hermione lost the baby? What would the two of them do? His heart ached at the thought. He loved his little girl so much even though they had never met. If something happened to her… his thoughts darkened. Ron would pay.
Hermione had just announced to him that she needed to go to St. Mungo's. Before he could even open his mouth to speak, she dropped to the floor unconscious. He picked her up and Flooed to St. Mungo's, not giving Ron a second thought.
When he brought her in, he tried to explain the situation. He didn't really know what had happened though so he wasn't much help. Percy would guess that the unnecessary stress had something to do with it.
But what if he lost her? Percy didn't know what he'd do. There was so much he wanted to tell Hermione… so much he wanted to do with her. He could only pray that he wouldn't lose his chance.
"Percy?"
Percy's head snapped up. He saw George and Angelina coming down the hallway, Ginny and Harry following them.
"Is she all right?" Angelina asked worriedly.
Percy frowned, shaking his head. "I don't know. They wouldn't tell me."
"Was it serious?" Ginny asked, tears pouring down her face. She held onto Harry tightly, who did his best to console her.
Percy bit his lip. "We might lose the baby," he whispered.
Angelina whimpered, turning and burying herself into George's embrace.
"This is all Ron's fault!" Ginny hissed, her anger taking over. "When I get ahold of him, I'm going to wring his neck!" she promised fiercely.
"Where is he?" Percy asked.
"He was taken into custody for breaking and entering and assault. The decision lies with Hermione if she wants to press charges or not," Harry explained, shaking his head. "I had no idea Ron would do such a thing."
Percy frowned. "Neither did I. I knew he was angry, but I had no idea he'd do something like this. It's so… out of character for him."
Ginny took a seat next to Percy. "She'll be okay." She hugged her brother tightly.
George nodded. "Hermione's a fighter. She'll make it through this."
"I hope so," Percy whispered. "I really hope so."
Sasha appeared. "Percy?" she called out into the waiting area. "Oh, there you are. You can come in now."
Percy gulped, standing.
"You'll be okay, mate," George said, gently touching Percy's shoulder.
He nodded, mumbling thanks. He nervously followed Sasha into the room.
Hermione was lying on the bed. She looked pale, almost as white as the sheets she was under. "Percy," she whispered, turning her head to face her.
Sasha smiled sadly at the couple. "I'll leave you two alone. Hermione, I'll be back in a half hour to check on you."
"Okay, thank you," Hermione politely responded. "Would you tell everyone waiting outside what had happened?"
Sasha nodded. "Of course. I'll be back." She disappeared through the door.
"How did you know there were people outside?" Percy asked, taking a seat in the chair next to her bed.
She smiled. "I know our friends."
The two of them fell quiet.
"Are you… is the baby?" Percy looked at her hopefully.
"We're okay," Hermione mumbled.
Percy took her hand and pressed his lips to it. "Thank Merlin."
"It was a close call, though. Ron didn't do me any physical damage but the emotional damage was done. The intense stress caused me to go into labor."
"Labor?" Percy asked, his eyes going wide. "That's not even possible."
Hermione smiled weakly. "Apparently it is. The stress caused the contractions to start. Luckily, Sasha and the other Healers were able to stop them before it was too late."
"So you're okay, though?" he asked once more.
"Yes," Hermione responded. "I'm to be on best rest for the next few weeks though. We don't want to take any chances with the baby. My body is still sensitive."
"I'm glad you're all right," Percy said, kissing her hands once more. "If anything had happened to you or the baby, I would have-"
"Shh," Hermione said gently. "Nothing happened. I'm fine and our little girl is fine." She gently touched her stomach. "Apart from everything, Sasha said she's developing really well. A strong, steady heartbeat."
"That's my girl," he whispered proudly. "I love you so much."
Hermione sniffled. "I love you too, Percy. With all of my heart."
Percy grinned. "With all of my heart as well."
She closed her eyes for a moment.
"Hermione?" Percy asked, knowing he should ask her before she fell asleep.
"Mmm?"
"What do you want to do about Ron?" he asked gently.
Hermione frowned. "I don't know," she answered honestly. "He hurt me, but I don't think he really meant it. I…"
"It's okay, you can take more time to think," Percy assured her.
Hermione shook her head. "No, I won't press charges. He's your brother and he was my best friend for all these years. He does need to make some changes though."
"That's incredibly lenient of you," Percy said flatly. He didn't agree with her decision but would accept it. "I'll tell Harry to tell Kingsley."
"I just hope he takes my leniency the right way. I'm giving him a second chance and I hope he realizes that," Hermione said.
"I'll have Harry tell him." Percy was quiet for a minute. "I wonder what Mum and Dad are saying about this."
Hermione bit her lip. "Your mother probably doesn't even care. She hates me."
"That's not true," Percy consoled. "She just doesn't understand. Maybe in time she will."
Hermione shrugged. "I'm tired, though, Perce. Will you stay with me while I sleep?"
"I'll stay with you always," he promised, gently kissing her forehead as her eyes fluttered closed.
