Thunderbird, I know you were not really asking me to change the story; it's great you're so invested in the pup. As for Draco and Hermione (resists the urge to retch)... no. I just wanted to show that Draco isn't a total asshole (as per canon). I loved having Ron being a total asshole though, as in my version he never really gets over his jealousy of Harry. Sure, he loves his friend, but a part of him really thinks things would be better if Harry wasn't around.
And I expect some 'aww's this chapter. SP

Chapter 20 - It's Significant To The Life
Voldemort sat and twiddled the Elder wand in his long, pale fingers. He smiled as he remembered blasting open Dumbledore's tomb and removing the item. Desecrating the final resting place of the one wizard he had always feared had pleased him, had made him feel again strong and powerful and unbeatable.
But it didn't work properly. The spells he cast were powerful, certainly, but only because he was a powerful wizard. The promised strength of this wand had failed to materialise, and he thought he understood why. This wand was not truly his; no, it belonged to Severus, miserable creature that he was, as Snape had killed Dumbledore.
In part of his mind, Voldemort wondered what it had felt like to end Albus. He had tried – and failed – in the past; yet his loyal Half Blood Prince had succeeded. Did that mean that even now Severus was planning to usurp the place Voldemort had made for himself? Was his supposedly loyal Death Eater a threat?
It was suspicious. Made even more so by Snape's absence from his side.

Harry had argued with Ron and Hermione and had, in the end, simply thrown the cloak over himself and vanished where they could not follow.
He had seen the violence done at the school, the damage caused by Death Eaters who had attacked barely legal adults with viciousness. There were signs, he was pleased to see, that some of their enemies had died from what looked like werewolf bites and cuts. Clearly Fenrir had come here, but his change of heart had remained. The formally cruel werewolf was on their side. So far.
Stumbling a little on chunks of rocks, he walked through the peace. This was a lull in the battle. One Voldemort had granted to allow both sides to move their dead and injured out of the way. He had also used the time to speak to Harry, and tell him that every death was on his head. Like Harry hadn't already known that!
Severus, listening to the words that reverberated around the school, hoped Harry didn't pay them any attention. The last thing he needed his idiotic partner doing was running off to face the Dark Lord because he felt guilty. Staying out of sight, he waited near the front entrance, watching for Harry.
Harry didn't pass, but Severus felt his young partner close by and softly called his name. There was a shimmer and a hand appeared. Snape waited and kept his eyes on the hand as it moved closer to him. Finally Harry was in front of him.
“Sit down,” Harry whispered, “then I can cover us both with the cloak.”
Snape sat and enjoyed the sensation of Harry straddling him whilst they were in their own private bubble, hidden from the world.
“I've done it,” Harry murmured once he had kissed Severus breathless. “Destroyed the last horcrux. It's just him now.”
Snape's arms tightened around Harry and he replied softly, “Harry, I'm sorry, but there is one more.”
The younger wizard, who had been working at the clothing keeping him from Severus' cock, stilled. “What do you mean?”
Sighing, hating himself, Severus told his partner the truth. “The day he tried to kill you as a baby, he failed. And his soul, mutilated and hurting, searched for something living to cling to.” He kissed Harry's cheek. “There was only one living thing in that house, so it clung to that.”
“Me?” the Gryffindor breathed, “I've got some of his soul in me?” He scratched his lightning scar. “I can't have. How can I be a horcrux, Severus? How?”
“It was a mistake. One he didn't know he'd made.”
“But you knew.” Suddenly anger came into Harry's tone. “How long have you known?”
Aware that he was going to severely piss off the other wizard, Snape admitted, “Albus told me last year when he was convincing me to let you come back to live in our rooms.”
“But that was...” Harry was horrified. “You've known for ages and you never said?!” Tears spilled from his eyes. “Severus, how could you lie to me like that? And I'm pregnant. Pregnant! All this time I thought we were...” he stopped.
“We are,” Snape said quietly, his throat clogging with tears he refused to let fall. “And I begged Albus to find a way to keep you alive, to save you.”
“Is there one?” Harry asked quietly. “I don't want this baby to die.”
Severus' hand stroked over the bump containing their child. “Nor do I. Neither do I want the one carrying it to die. And there is a chance, just a chance. That's all Albus would say. He also mentioned, once, when he thought I wouldn't make the connection, that the Deathly Hallows might be useful.”
“But I only have one of them!” Harry protested. “I need all three, don't I?”
“The Dark Lord has the wand. I spent some time finding out about the Hallows and I know he does have the Elder wand. No one is quite sure where the cloak or the resurrection stone is.”
“You're sitting under the cloak,” Harry muttered, leaning in for a kiss. He was shocked and hurt by Severus' confession, but he still needed the other man.
“This is the invisibility cloak of Death himself?!” his voice was full of disbelief.
“I know. But it really is.”
Snape pulled Harry in close and cuddled him. They held one another for a long slow moment that wasn't nearly long enough. Harry could hear Severus' heart beating steadily against his ear. The constant thu-thump reassured and calmed him. His own heart swelled with love for this man who was his.
“I love you,” Harry breathed, shocking himself with what he had said. He hadn't intended to say those three words.
“I know. You never needed to say that,” Snape answered, almost groaning. “You think I didn't understand what it meant when you said I was your mate? I understood.”
“I don't even know what I meant,” Harry said, blushing a little.
“Werewolves, like some other animals, mate for life. You called me your mate, Harry. That meant you were committed to me forever. Even if you didn't call it love then, I knew what it meant.”
“And, er, do you feel...?”
“You could never have mated with me if I didn't,” Snape whispered, voice full of the love he usually hid from the world. He tilted Harry's chin up and kissed the younger wizard gently. Their lips pressed together before their tongues slid out and slicked over skin and into hot wet mouths. Need grabbed them and Harry tightened his arms around his mate, rocking his hips, aching for Severus to fill him.
“Please,” he begged when he pulled free, “Please!”
There were a few minutes of awkwardness, and then Harry was lowering himself onto Severus' thick shaft. He groaned at the ecstasy of being opened and claimed by his mate. They rocked slowly together, keeping their movements small so as not to dislodge the invisibility cloak. It didn't take long for climax to wash over them. And Harry sank down, body wet with his mate's seed, and gasped for breath.
“I'm not dying,” he announced between pants, “not when I know I've got that waiting for me when I come back!”
***
Walking away from Severus, aching slightly, Harry thought about what his mate had told him. He was the final horcrux, and if he could master Death then he might survive. But he had failed; Dumbledore had pointed him towards the Hallows and Harry had stayed focused on the horcruxes. He was going to die. It was done, finished, this shop was about to close for business.
He drew in a startled gasp – the snitch left to him by Albus Dumbledore. It had had writing on it. Quickly he pulled it out of his pocket, pressed it to his lips (lips that still tingled from Severus' kisses) and read again I open at the close.
“I am about to die,” he whispered and nearly cried aloud as he found himself amongst people.
His mother smiled at him lovingly. His father too, although there was some guilt mingled there as well. Sirius grinned broadly and leaned in for a ghostly hug that left Harry shivering.
“How are you all here?”
“We're always here,” Sirius answered. “What? You didn't think I'd let a little thing like death keep me from protecting my Godson did you?!”
Harry smiled. “I miss you, Sirius.”
“I noticed,” Sirius said, his tone harsh. “Jumping Snivellus' bones!”
He stopped when he heard the growling from his Godson. “That's my mate!” Harry snarled, “The father of the child I'm carrying. Watch your mouth!”
Lily shushed him. “Darling, he's worried about you. That's all. So much has happened to you recently, so many big changes...”
“Advances,” Harry butt in, “Changes can be good or bad, but advances, that's got to be good. And things were good, Mum. Really good. Despite everything.” He glared at James and Sirius then. “Despite some people's attitudes and actions that should have meant Severus never wanted to spend a second in my company... we're together and we're happy.”
“He's not here though, is he?” James ground out.
“He's not fucking dead!” Harry snapped. Anger made the wolf come out and his eyes glowed pure golden in the moonlight. “Go away! Just go away! I want Mum, but you two, just piss off!”
“We're here to help you,” Sirius complained.
“How are you helping?!” Harry asked incredulously. “You've pissed me off; how is that helping when I'm about to die?!”
“Darling,” that was Lily, sounding upset, “don't die. I want to spend more time with you, eternity, but not yet. You have to stay alive.”
“I don't want to die. I don't want my pup to die,” Harry replied, tears spilling down his cheeks. “But I don't have the three Hallows, so I can't stop it.”

“Harry Potter,” Voldemort hissed the name as the youngster came into the room in the Shrieking Shack.
Severus had gone to Voldemort's side after saying goodbye to Harry. If there was one place where he would definitely see his mate again, it would be by the Dark Lord's side. His dark eyes drank in the sight of his partner. His heart was pounding so quickly he was sure everyone could hear it.
With one flick of green eyes at Snape, Harry had said, “Hey, Tom,” and let a corner of his lips curl up at the Dark Lord's furious response.
“You dare use my Muggle father's name?”
“Oh, that's right, it bothers you, doesn't it, Tom? You don't like being Tom Riddle, taking after your father.” Harry thought about James. “You know, you're not the only person who had a shit Dad.”
“Enough!” Voldemort roared. “I'm going to kill you, Harry Potter.”
Harry yawned. “Yeah, I keep hearing that, and how I can't possibly win, and yet, here I am. Still standing.”
“Not for much longer,” sneered the Dark Lord.
“Well, now, that all depends, doesn't it?” Harry replied. His mind had been working furiously on his way to the Shack once he just had his mother's calming presence at his side, and he now thought he saw a glimmer of hope. “it depends on that wand there,” he nodded to the Elder wand.
Glancing down at the wand, Voldemort knew the boy had a point. It hadn't been working properly, and that was Severus' fault.
“Sectum sempra!” Voldemort shouted, moving the wand in a slashing movement across Snape's neck and chest.
Eyes wide with confusion, pain and betrayal, Severus looked down at the gaping material on his torso. Red fluid was blossoming from thin cuts. He gurgled, eyes searching for Harry, and then he was crumpling to the ground.
“You bastard!” Harry screamed and threw himself at the Dark Lord. His hands were open. He wanted to strangle the life from this evil man.
“Avada Kedavra!” shouted Voldemort and everything went white.

CH21 Preview: “Go away,” Harry panted. “Go away. You're dead. You can't hurt me any more.”
“Oh, I can.” Lupin moved closer and closer and Harry was suddenly aware of his nakedness. It upset him and as he wished it, clothes appeared. “I'm in you, Harry, in your blood and bones now.”
The younger man glanced down, saw fingers brushing his chest and then his gaze focused lower, at his stomach. It was flat. “My pup!” he screamed, distraught. “What's happened to my pup?!”
