Roark woke snuggled between his husbands, his head lying on Evan's shoulder, his arm lax over his shoulders, while Rodolphus lay snuggled up against his back, face buried in the back of his neck, his left arm layng heavy on his waist, hand against his stomach.
He smiled suddenly, thinking about how most mornings, while he had been carrying their son, he had woken to Rodolphus' hand curled around his stomach protectively. "What are you smiling about, beautiful?" came a sleep roughened voice.
"Nothing really," he answered softly, tilting his head back. "Just a memory."
"Of what, may I ask?" his arm tightened around his shoulders, head bending to kiss him. "Good morning, darling."
"Um...morning, and the memory was of when I was carrying Hunter. I would wake every morning to Rodolphus's hand curled protectively around my stomach. After I lost our first--"
"First? You were pregnant before?"
A deep sigh. "Not a good memory, that. It was during the Riddle investigation. When we first met, I thought I was attracted VERY strongly to the man that was one of Riddle's top Enforcer's, his number one assassin. I didn't find out he was actually a Counter-Intelligence Undercover Specialist until later."
"After you were already lovers."
"We tried so hard," came Rodolphus' sleep heavy voice as he shifted, "to stay away from each other. Much like I did when you and I met," he looked at Evan as Roark rolled to his back, looking between the two of them. The attraction was just too strong. We couldn't deny how we felt no matter how hard we tried."
"So you just stopped trying?"
"Yes. It was the night Lt. Trystan was murdered. I had gone to give him another warning to back off, but--" he broke off, looked down into Roark's silver eyes, "I spent the night making love to him instead."
"The baby?"
"After I took that knife Ardyn threw at him--"
"You did WHAT?!" he sat up quickly. "Wait! This scar..." he reached out to trace the scar on Roark's chest.
"He stepped in front of me. Kobol, my heart stopped when the knife struck. I shot Ardyn, Bas killed Bella--"
"Good," came the growl, "because if he hadn't I was going too. As for you," he looked down at Roark, who shook his head against the pillow,
"Don't start channeling Severus, Ev. I have already been well warned that such an action had better not happen again, or I would be very sorry. I didn't find out until I woke up in Caprica's Life Center that I had been carrying our child. I wasn't very far along, but all the same..."
Not really knowing what to say, Evan said nothing, he simply leaned in to kiss him gently. "What say we get cleaned up, see about some breakfast, then head over to the Manor?"
A smile. "That sounds like a plan."

"How was he able to accomplish this?" came softly as he settled on the gold and white marble bench near the fountain in the Atrium.
"I am assuming you mean me?" came the question from the holograph.
"YOU most definitely, Marcus. It's almost like you're alive."
He shook his head. "I wish I could answer that, but I cannot. I never understood how he did many of the things that he did. I only know that this," he waved his hand, then pointed to himself, "what he did here, took his life. Have you opened the way into his private wing yet?"
"Not yet."
The Holograph got to his feet. "Come with me." Standing, they followed him from the Atrium. As they came to the door there was a shimmer, a soft hum of power coming from it. "Open it."
Lifting his hand, he lay it on the door, gasping at the shock of power that rocketed through him. The door slid open with a soft hiss, releasing the stale air that had been trapped within. Slowly, he stepped forward, entering a hallway that lit up as torches flared to life.
"Welcome, my Heir." A shimmer as another Holograph appeared. He was dressed in a sapphire blue caftan of shimmering satin, gold trim around the edges. Around his throat was a beaten gold necklace adorned with jewels. He was an extremely handsome man in his late fifties, perhaps early sixties, with silky midnight hair, upon which rested a golden circlet, also adorned with jewels, and bright silver eyes. "I am Alexandros, First Lord of Kobol."
