AUTHOR'S NOTE: Alright, guys. Here's the deal. I'm going to be, ah, renovating Hogwarts. Switching some things around and adding things. So, here's your first chance to become really interactive! What kind of things would YOU like to see at Hogwarts? For examples, these are a few things I plan on adding (or at least they have yet to be mentioned in the books if they do exist):
School Store (money raised goes to improving the school, i.e. new brooms)
Pet Center (both care & supplies)
Art Room
Art Gallery
These are just a few of the things I have planned. So, what do you want to see? You can email me either at my AOL address or my Hotmail address (in the Author's Notes of previous chapters), leave a note in a review, or post on the group. So, hurry and let me know!
Lupin silently followed Xander upstairs to the room the young man now lived in. The moment he had met Xander, he knew there was something very different about him. He didn't "feel" like a normal human, nor a wizard, nor a vampire. He didn't "feel" like any kind of magickal being or creature he had ever encountered before. So, he was a bit confused. When they had been summoned to the hotel to discuss Dawn's incredible discovery, he sensed something distinctly canine about the other man. But again, he didn't "feel" like a werewolf.
He had felt the younger man's eyes on him as Dawn talked, and easily read his suggestion that they talk later. This was what they were about to do now, and Lupin had to admit, he was somewhat excited. He entered the small room and took the seat that Xander directed him to. The space was sparsely decorated, and Lupin figured that Xander didn't have many possessions to begin with.
"Anything to drink?" Xander asked, making his way to a small fridge in the corner.
"Water would be just fine, thank you." As he watched, he couldn't really distinguish anything animal about his movements. This led to even more confusion.
"Yeah, I'm a water-drinker, too. Got sick of soda and all that sugar." Xander poured two glasses of chilled water from a juice jug, then sat down in the end of his bed. He handed the second glass to Lupin and smiled. "Hyena."
Lupin started and blinked a few times. "Hyena? What are you talking about?" Lupin was confused.
Xander chuckled. "Whatever you sense about me. It's a hyena. Back in high school, sophomore year, I went on a little field trip and a group of us were in the wrong place at the really wrong time. We ended up possessed by a pack of hyenas. Well, when Giles figured out the dispossession thingy, all the others were totally clean but somehow mine stayed. I don't know, maybe because he was alpha of that pack. I keep him under control most of the time, but I am aware of him enough that I recognized Buffy and the others as 'Pack'.
"When I met Oz -- yes, that Oz -- something clicked. The hyena recognized the wolf inside him, and we were like Litter Mates. Hanging around him, the spirit inside me became less hyena-ish, and more wolfish, I guess. It's ... sorta an amalgam of the two. And wouldn't Willow be proud for me using such a big word as 'amalgam'?" He laughed weakly, and Lupin smiled.
Lupin nodded. "I see." He sipped his water in thought before asking, "You have split from Buffy, right?"
"Yeah, she and Wills have gone a bit nuts."
"So, who is your Pack now?"
Xander paused, and a pained expression crossed his face. "I don't really know anymore," he murmured. "I mean, Giles and Dawn are still there, and I've accepted Andrew and Faith. But ... I don't know who my Alpha is anymore."
Lupin sighed. "I know how that feels. I've never really associated closely with any of my kind. Certainly not enough to be a member of a Pack. I've never had an Alpha." Lupin paused in thought. "Except for maybe Sirius. He was an Animagus, you see. He could shape-shift into a large black dog. While he could retain his human sensibilities, he was still very much canine. His personality was always more dynamic than my own, so, he became my pseudo-Alpha."
Xander nodded. "Yeah, Buffy, being a bonafide warrior and leader, became mine."
"She is a Slayer."
"Yeah."
"What about Faith?"
Xander chuckled. "She's strong, both physically and personality-wise. But, she's never been interested in leading really. Even when she was forced to, she didn't like it."
"Lone wolf."
"Something like that." Xander thought for a moment. "I think ... I think I could see Angel as my Alpha now."
Lupin nodded. "He has what it takes to be a leader, that much is very evident. Also, because of his vampiric nature, he might understand your ... our inner workings." He noticed Xander smiled slightly, and even blushed a bit, when he included himself.
"I'm not saying I'm totally submissive," Xander said suddenly.
It was clear he was trying to impress Lupin in some fashion, and the werewolf couldn't help but find it ... cute? Lupin straightened slightly. Where the hell had that come from?
"I mean," Xander continued, "I'd make a good Second ... would that be a Beta? Do they even go beyond Alpha?"
Lupin laughed. "Canine hierarchies are ... difficult to interpret. Traditionally, the Alpha's Mate would be Second. The eldest of their first litter would be Third. Of course, that's in the wild, with real wolves. Werewolf packs are much more complicated, as our human selves are often taken into account."
Xander nodded. "Yeah, s'pose."
"Personally, I will consider Angel my Alpha, especially once I'm Blood-Bound. Spike will be his Second, and Draco will be his Third. Everyone else I will give the respect they are due, regardless of where they fall in the Order."
Xander nodded again. "Makes sense."
Lupin thought a few moments more. He regarded the young man across from him, and recognized what one could consider forced submission. "Xander, please don't take this the wrong way ... I'm not even sure how to say what I'm thinking ... but, you seem somewhat ... meek."
"What?! Meek?! What are you talking about?"
Lupin cringed. He hoped he could salvage whatever friendship he was starting to build with the young man. He genuinely liked Xander. And now, with Sirius gone, it would be nice to have someone who could understand him more. "Like I said, no offense meant. It's just ... you seem like ... like a caged animal that has been hit with too many stunning spells." Xander blinked a couple times, obviously confused. "What I mean is, you seem like you are suppressing ... something. You're holding back."
Xander looked down at his forgotten glass. "Yeah, I am. I kinda have to."
"Why?" Lupin asked gently.
Xander seemed to think hard on that. "It's ... somewhat hard to explain. See, I've been possessed twice ..."
Lupin's eyes bulged. "You've been possessed by hyenas twice?!"
Xander looked confused for a moment, then laughed. "No, no, no. One Halloween, a wizard enchanted a bunch of costumes, and sold them."
"Are you sure it was a wizard? I mean, the same as me?"
"Well, his name was Ethan Rayne ..."
Lupin spit out the water he had been in the process of swallowing. "Rayne?! Oh, dear gods, this just gets more and more twisted. All these connections that would seem so random ..."
"Yeah, well, my friends and I have learned right quick that there's no such thing as `random' where we're concerned."
Lupin chuckled. "I suppose not. Now, what about that spell Rayne cast?"
"Well, when he activated it, the people wearing the costumes would actually turn into whatever they were dressed up to be. Fully. Mind-set and everything. Me? I was an army soldier. I had all the knowledge that came with that. Even after the spell ended, I still retained everything."
"Am I to understand that you've been possessed twice and no one has attempted to remove the remnants of the personalities from you? It could very well have driven you mad." Lupin was shocked by the idea that anyone could be so careless.
Xander shrugged, somewhat embarrassed. "They aren't really remnants. They are complete individuals. They haven't driven me crazy yet. Actually, they've helped me." Xander then sighed and looked to the floor. "But, as much as they've helped me, I could never really let them out, you know? Only Giles knows that the hyena stayed with me, so I couldn't go around going all canine around Buffy and the others. The soldier did help on occasion, but I never let on. He knows quite a bit about hand-to-hand combat. With him and the hyena, I could've been a pretty good fighter. I wouldn't have Buffy's strength or speed or anything, 'cause she was the Slayer. But, I would be pretty good."
Lupin nodded. "She didn't like you to fight very well did she?"
Xander gaped at him with shock. "Y-yeah. Buffy hated anyone to be even close to fighting like her. The hyena got to where he wanted to challenge her for control, but I knew I couldn't beat her. It wasn't worth the hassle. Buffy would try to hurt me if I showed I could actually fight. She liked me being donut boy, the one with no skills." After a moment, he asked, "How did you know?"
Lupin smiled. "I got the sense of an abused pup. One who was forced into submission for fear of being killed."
Xander nodded. "Oh, yeah. That's me."
"So, how does having these two other personalities work?"
Xander thought for a moment. "Well, if I get into a situation where Soldier Boy could help, that personality blends with mine. Same with the hyena. My original personality seems to always be dominant though, no matter what."
"What kinds of situations would warrant this blending?"
"Oh, just about anything, really. They're always there, kinda monitoring things. If either of them sees something they could help with, or something that they just have to do something about, they jump in. At first it was really, really weird. But I've grown used to it."
"I can imagine how immensely helpful that must be."
"Oh, it is. With Soldier Boy, I know about warfare and strategy and weapons and all that. The hyena really comes out when it's a matter of survival ... or something to do with my Pack. But, I really don't think I would have survived this long without them."
Lupin nodded. He could sympathize with that. As much as he used to despise his wolf, he realized that there were many situations in which he would have perished without it. "Well," he said brightly, "you don't have to hold back anymore, do you? I hardly think Angel, or anyone else here for that matter, are going to hurt you because you know how to fight."
"True. But, I don't exactly know how to let them out, you know? I want them to become more than just sub-personalities. I want them to blend permanently."
Lupin smiled again. "Well, then, it is most fortuitous that we have met at this time. I believe I can help you. And no, the irony of the fact that I learned these techniques from your former Litter Mate is not lost on me."
"That would just be ... awesome."
"Good! It's settled then! When do you want to begin?"
Xander grinned. "Well, as it seems that all three Dead Boys are going to be pretty much occupied for the rest of the night," and Lupin couldn't help but laugh at the slightly lascivious look in Xander's eyes at the mention of the vampires' bonding activities, "how 'bout now?"
Lupin nodded. "I can think of no better time."
Draco woke to the feeling of being surrounded. The form he was currently wrapped around was familiar and easily recognizable as Spike. But the one that was wrapped around him from behind was new. Large, solid ... Angel. Draco grinned as he remembered the previous night. It had been long and eventful and he was pretty sure his vocal chords were shredded from all the screaming he had done.
And if asked, he'd do it again in less than a heartbeat.
He stretched as best he could in an attempt to alert his bedmates that he was awake. Spike dozed on, but Angel came aware immediately.
"Good morning," Angel murmured as he kissed the young blonde on the cheek.
"Bloody fantastic morning, you mean." Draco smiled again and snuggled back into Angel's embrace. He would be perfectly content to stay that way until school started, and he desperately tried to silence the insistent part of his mind that was reminding him he had to go shopping for school today.
To make it worse, Angel squeezed him gently. "Yes, you're quite right. What was I thinking?"
"Well, considering you've just awoken after a night of multitudes of mind-blowing sex, I will forgive you that slight grievance."
"Mmmm, mind-blowing sex," Spike mumbled, finally coming around.
Angel snickered. "Of course, that would be the one thing he heard."
"I've heard everything. Hard not to, with you two talking so bloody loud. Now, shut up." Spike tried to roll away, but Draco grabbed him and pulled him close. "Or, you could do that." He smiled as his Childe kissed him.
It didn't take even half a second for Draco to start thinking of things he wanted to do, now that he was in this bed with these vampires. However, his fantasies were cut short as Angel groaned.
"Don't you two start," he said. "We have things to do today." Leave it to Angel to agree with the stick-in-the-mud voice still nagging in the back of Draco's mind.
"It's not even light out!" Spike protested.
"I know, but we have less than a month before school starts, and we have lots to do still."
Spike pouted at his Mate, and Draco decided to add his own ammunition to the attack. He rolled over to face Angel and pouted as well. One Malfoy Pout was hard enough to resist. But two?
Little did they realize that the Angel Resistance was far more powerful than a dozen Malfoy Pouts. "No," Angel said, and they both knew it was final.
"You're no fun," Draco complained as the three started to climb out of bed.
"That's not what you said last night," Angel countered, grinning as he selected some pants from a bureau.
"Now who's starting?" Spike asked, putting a t-shirt on first.
"Oh, please, Will," Angel replied. "You know damn well that if I started, neither of you would stand a chance."
"Then, by all means, start!" Draco suggested. He would not mind a repeat performance. Especially of the time Spike had been between them ... He visibly shuddered and felt the slight heat in his groin.
"Draco," Angel said in warning as he noticed the reaction of Draco's body. "Not now."
The Slytherin pouted once again. "Fine," he said, locating his trousers.
Angel sighed in exasperation and took hold of Draco's shoulders. "I can promise you that this was by no means a one-time thing. Believe me."
Draco smiled slightly. "I know," he conceded. "It's just ... been a while since I felt so loved."
Angel smiled and hugged him. "We know." He released the blonde and continued dressing.
"So," Spike said from the other side of the room, putting on his shoes. "Pray tell, who was the last person who made you feel loved?"
"Will! That's none of our business!"
"Yes it is!" Spike countered. "He's my Childe, therefore I retain the right to know every minute detail of his life ... especially where sex is concerned!"
"I don't remember seeing that in the Book," Draco said with amusement.
"Unwritten rule," Spike answered. "So, fess up."
Draco rolled his eyes and sighed. "Fine. Remember that guy I was thinking about before?"
Spike paused and searched his memory. "Tall, black hair, ocean blue eyes?"
"Oohh," Angel cooed, "sounds nice."
Draco smiled. "Yeah, his name is Blaise Zabini. He's another Slytherin in my year. He and I were ... well, we were dating for a while last year. But, it was in secret."
"Embarrassed?" Angel asked.
"No," Draco answered, his voice a tad more harsh than he had intended. "It's just that, if my father found out ... He wanted me to be a good little Malfoy, find a pretty wife, and have an heir. If he found out that I was involved with a male, he'd have killed me. Literally. He always told me that it was fine to dally with the same sex, but not until I was married with a child." He finished putting on his shoes and sighed. "I never wanted that life. I know what his affairs did to my mother, and as slimy a git as I was, I could never bring myself to do that to someone. I mean, it's one thing to have a mutual understanding when going into the marriage, with ground rules and honesty and such. But it's another thing completely to pretend to love someone who is totally devoted to you, then mess around on them behind their back, lying the whole time.
"Besides, I really cared for Blaise. I was terrified of what Father would do to him. He's not quite as protected as I am."
"What do you mean?" Angel asked, heading to the door into the living room. Draco and Spike followed.
"His family is one of the few pure-blooded ones that are neutral in this conflict. They don't support Voldemort, but they're also not actively against him, therefore, they are left alone for the most part."
"But, since they don't support him, they don't have his protection against those in his ranks," Angel surmised.
"Right. I would not put it past my father to obliterate Blaise's entire family out of rage."
"Was the break-up peaceable?" Spike asked.
Draco smiled. "Yeah. We're still friends. Course, it was really difficult those last three months of school. I mean, we sleep in the same dorm room! He was right there, and I couldn't do anything!"
"Do you still care for him?" Angel asked as they boarded the lift.
Draco smiled without trying. "Yeah. A lot. I think ... I might even love him. But, I'm not entirely sure."
"You'd like to get back together with him," Spike said.
"Does that bother you?" Draco asked quietly, somewhat fearful of the answer. He truly did want to get back together with Blaise, now that he felt he could better protect him.
Angel smiled. "Draco, do you remember what we talked about before Will and I were Mated?" When Draco nodded, he continued. "Both of us want you to be happy. And believe me when I tell you that we both hope you are able to find someone, the way Will and I have found each other."
Spike wrapped his arms around his Childe's waist and squeezed. "You deserve a true Mate, luv."
"So, it would be okay if I dated him again?" Draco asked hopefully.
"If that is what you truly want," Spike answered.
"And if you think it would be best for both of you. Don't endanger him if you can help it," Angel added.
"I can protect him now, can't I?" Draco challenged.
"Yes," Angel agreed. "However, that brings to mind another problem. You need to tell him. He deserves to know what you've become, and what that means in terms of a relationship. Question is, can you trust him?"
"Absolutely," Draco answered without hesitation. "He was the one who first helped me see how wrong my father and Voldemort were. He was the one who turned me away from that path. He was the one who helped me hide it. He hasn't told a soul."
"Well, then, that should be fine. Just use common sense, okay? That's all we ask."
Draco nodded and smiled. As they began to make preparations for their trip to London later that day, he thought of ways to win Blaise back.
TO MY REVIEWERS
First off, I'm going to answer Vigilante's questions. :)
1) Can beheading Angel, Spike, Harm and Draco kill them? (If not I would think it ah_weird to have their heads like on the ground talking while the rest of them searches blindly_or just lies there)
There is one way, and only ONE way, to kill them (permanently) ... beheading is only PART of it. It does turn them to dust, but even that is not permanent. (Think of the last minutes of "Buffy vs. Dracula".)
2) Do the Angelian Vamps still need to have an invitation to cross a thresh-hold? (I always found it hilarious when spike or angel tried to get into a house only to be forced back by some force, could be an interesting scene with Draco having the same setback at Hogwarts lol)
They have no problem with that anymore. As the soul and demon are now blended/integrated, thresholds don't impede them (since they're no longer exactly vampiric ... they're Ascended). The reason a vamp couldn't enter a human's home (in my theory, as it's never been explained that I can find), is because they were once human, but are now a mockery of life/humanity, not to mention corrupted by evil and darkness. This is the same reason they generally can't see their reflections. NOW, even though Angel and Spike had souls, the demons were still strong, and SEPARATE. So ... in this case the threshold would "see" Angel as a vampire with a human parasite. Not as anything human. Heck, even as a further mockery. But, since the soul melded with the demon, and as Angelians are usually aligned with "good", they would be allowed to pass.
3) Do Draco's visions occur like Cordelia's and Doyle's did: coming at any given moment and with a splitting headache? (It would be interesting if he got one in the middle of class lol)
Most of his visions will come unexpectedly, but without the pain (he's able to withstand the visions more than Cordy and Doyle, being full-demon). However, they are so sudden, they can very well freak the heck out of him ... enough to cause a scene in the middle of Transfigurations. ;) Also, did you know he takes Divination? Well, you do now.
4) Do the Vamps heal in a split second after they are wounded or just like other Vamps? (I remember when Harm found the jewel of Amara and Spike tried to stake her and she healed almost instantly, is it the same case here?)
Depends on the extent of the injury, though they do heal very, very quickly. A gunshot could heal in at least 24 hours, if not less. A paper cut ... negligible.
5) Also, like the last question, does the cross and bible still burn them?
Nopers. With research, Draco was able to figure out how to recreate the Gem of Amara. Angel did, then added that to the ink that he used to make his tattoo. Applying the tattoo applies the ink's magick to the person receiving the tattoo. (This ink also includes an Orb of Thesulah, which captures/anchors a person's soul when they're Sired/Mated into the Order, and which led to the unexpected twist of the demon and soul merging to create something new.)
6) In AtS I noticed, as I watched, that a huge ongoing theme was the need for atonement for past sins . . . so, I was wondering if Draco had done anything in his past that he feels the need to atone for
Oh, absolutely. He's been a right prat the past five years, has he not? Also, he does sometimes feel the weight of the Malfoy name, and what comes with that, and feels he's responsible for his family's wrongdoings. Silly, ne?
also, on that note, how did he go from wanting to be like his father as a death eater to fighting the good fight? Was there something that made him want to switch sides?
Not something ... someONE. It will be explained soon. :) Also, keep in mind, he wasn't as far gone as Angel, Spike, or Faith. He hadn't actually crossed that threshold yet, so it would be infinitely easier for him to back away before it went too far.
7) Are Willow and Buffy just being plain old bitches or is there something more at work here? (I agree that Buffy is a self-centered bitch at times and Willow can be power hungry_but cruel? I'm having a hard time with that, it doesn't seem like them)
Power corrupts. Willow had completed this massive spell, touching/becoming one with the Divine as she did. Buffy is now the leader of an ARMY of Slayers, with no official Watchers' Council to stand in her way and tell her what to do. They faced the First, and won. It's already in their natures to latch onto power and hoard it, and they are both righteous enough to believe that what they're doing is Right and For the Good, which makes it ten times worse.
8) Chapter 18 suggested that you might have some beef with Ron, lol, I was just wondering if you were going to bash him, because like the Buffy and Willow question, I think Ron can be a big jerk sometimes_but loyal and good-hearted too_
I will not senselessly bash anyone in this, or any other, story. If I bash ANYone, I will give a DAYUM good reason (and it will usually be Aimee's fault). :) Besides, if you think about it, it really IS only Ron that Draco dislikes.
Those were excellent questions, Vigilante. Thanks for asking them, as it gave me a chance to clear up some things. I wasn't the LEAST bit offended. One thing I can say, though, is I'm not the type of author to just lay everything out on the table up front. Some of these things they do have yet to discover for themselves, so things will be revealed bit by bit over the course of the story.
And the reason your questions blew me away was because I never thought someone would be THAT interested in my story, that they'd want to know the tiny details. :)
Willow: I love the new Angel, too. Of course, he's going to get even MORE interesting as the story goes on.
LissaRiddle: The god Apollo thanks you for that laugh, and says, "Bring it." I kid you not. That's what He said.
TP: You can't go wrong with vampire lovin'. But I'm glad it would work without the naughty bits. That's what I was aiming for (and also why I keep the explicit stuff confined to their own chapters). To join my group, email me at cerri_kalidiah@hotmail.com. I'll then send an invite out to you. :)
Rob: Thank you! :D
Loki: Wow. I surpass myself. GO ME! Don't worry about Harry. I've found something to keep him occupied for the time being, and I promise much, MUCH fun.
Sailor Black 666: I HAD to leave SOMEthing to the imagination! Besides, this just means I can describe it in more detail the next time they're all together, and it'll still be fresh and new. :D
Allie: Wow, there are a LOT of Connorites out there! Draco/Connor, huh? Hmmm ... Well, I don't know about exclusively, but I think they might hook up once or twice in the future. But not for a while.
