-Chapter Twenty-One-
The next morning, Harry woke up early to make Draco a large breakfast before he had to rush off to school with barely a kiss goodbye.
Chuckling at his flustered mate, Harry finished eating his own breakfast, stroking his stomach gently. Scooping up the last of his fruit filled oatmeal, the only thing he could stomach, Harry moved the bowl to the sink without getting up from his seat.
Glancing at the clock, Harry counted three hours before Draco would be back for lunch that afternoon. That gave him plenty of time to go and do what he planned to...even though he was sure his mate wouldn't be too happy with him about it.
Heading into the bedroom, he changed into a heavy, black turtleneck sweater and a pair of blue jeans. Walking out into the living room, he gathered up the papers and other items he was bringing with him before he wrapped himself up in one of Draco's heavy cloaks and slipped on his boots.
Calling out for Dipper, Harry fiddled with the cloak and fidgeted in his spot.
“What can Dipper be doing for Master Harry?” Dipper asked.
“Dipper I'm heading out for a little while. If Draco gets back before I return can you let him know?” Harry asked with a smile.
“Of course Dipper will be doing that for Master Harry.”
“Thank you Dipper. I had better go now so I can get back before the weather gets bad again.” Harry said, talking about the snow that was supposed to start again early in the afternoon.
“Of course Master Harry. Dipper be going back to work now.” Dipper said, popping away.
Smiling, Harry headed out of the house and apparated away, landing in a familiar park near Privet Drive.
Walking down the familiar roads, Harry hesitated a few times, thinking about stopping and waiting for Draco, but kept going. Turning onto Privet Drive, he couldn't believe how much had stayed the same from the last time he had been there; the houses were all the same color, the cars were all the same make, model and colors, even the decorations were the same.
Walking up the walkway to number 4 Privet drive, Harry was happy to see that his uncle's car wasn't in the driveway. Reaching the door, he stopped and took a deep breath before reaching his finger out and pressing the doorbell.
He only had to wait a few seconds before his aunt was there opening the door with a smile. Once she saw that it was him, she spat out, “What are you doing here? We don't want you here.”
“Trust me, Aunt Petunia, I don't want to be here any more than you want me here.” Harry said with a snort.
“Then why are you here? I don't want the neighbors seeing you or any of your kind here.”
“I won't be here long. I came because you weren't at the will reading for my parents and you were left something.” Harry said, holding up his folder with the papers in it.
“I don't want nor do I need anything from you freaks. Now leave and don't come back.” She snarled, going to shut the door.
“Oh you mean you don't want the ten thousand pounds that my mother left you? Okay fine.” Harry said with a shrug of his shoulders, turning around to leave.
“Wait a minute. Maybe I was too hasty. Why don't you come in and we can figure this out.” She said with wide eyes.
Giving her a disgusted look, Harry said, “Funny how quickly you changed your mind when it comes to money.”
“Don't speak to me like that you brat. Come in so we can get this done with and you can leave.” She said, reaching out to pull him inside the house while looking around to see if anyone was paying any attention.
Following her into the house and straight into the kitchen, Harry glanced around, noticing the same set up as when he was younger only with more recent pictures of the family of three.
“Now what is this about your mother leaving my family ten thousand pounds?”
“Its exactly that. In the will reading yesterday it was indicated my my mother left you ten thousand pounds and a note.” Harry said, pulling out the appropriate papers and letter from his folder.
When he held them out, Petunia hesitated for a few seconds before she took them and pulled them over to her. As soon as her fingers touched the envelope, the letter popped open and a feminine voice started to speak.
“To my loved sister, Petunia.
Tunia, I know you hated me towards the end and resented me for my magic, but you're still my sister, the little girl I had tea parties and played dress up with. I hope that one day you'll be able to get over your hatred of what I am because I still love my sister and even though I'm gone I want my son to know the beautiful and caring sister you were when we were little. I want our children to grow up knowing one another. I know it may be foolish, but I will die hoping that you can care about my son, your nephew, even though you've grown to hate magic. I wish you and your family well and many happy years together and I leave you this money in hopes that it makes your lives easier and more comfortable. I love you, Petunia, even though it seems like you've lost all love for me.
Love always, Lily-bug.”
Looking away, Harry tried to give his aunt a moment as she rubbed at her misty eyes.
“All you need to do is sign those papers and I'll take a copy back to my lawyer. He'll be sending you a notice once everything is cleared and shortly after you should receive a check for the ten thousand pounds.” Harry said once she seemed composed.
“Why are you giving us the money?” Petunia asked as she picked up a pen and signed the papers then slid them back over to Harry.
“Because regardless of your feelings about me and mine about your family, you, Dudley, and Vernon are family and I'm not about to deny you what is rightfully yours. I'm not like that.” Harry said honestly. “I could be spiteful because of the horrible childhood you gave me and keep it from you since you didn't show up to the will reading, but I'm not going to because I'm better than that.” The silent 'I'm better than you' was left unsaid.
Slipping the signed copy for the lawyer into the folder, Harry stood up and headed to the door followed by Petunia.
“Can I ask one thing of you?” Harry asked.
“What is it?” Petunia asked quietly.
“If there are any children born with magic to you and uncle Vernon or even to Dudley don't treat them horribly like you did me. Send a letter in the mail and I'll find them a home. There are many witches and wizards looking to adopt a child of their own. You may think magic is horrible and wrong, but we can't help how we're born.”
“How will I be sure a letter will reach you?”
“It will. We have measures set into place so that it's possible.” Harry said, opening the door and stepping outside into the cold air.
“Harry I...” Petunia started to say.
“Goodbye Aunt Petunia I hope you all have a wonderful life.” Harry said before apparating away, uncaring if anyone saw him.
Landing by the wards of Diagon Alley, Harry headed through, walking straight to the lawyer's office and inside.
Smiling at the secretary, Harry said, “Is Mr. Laufey in?”
“He is and he's free right now. Why don't you go ahead in.” She said with a friendly smile.
“Thank you.”
Walking towards the door, Harry knocked and waited for an acknowledgment before he opened the door and stepped in.
“Ah Harry what can I do for you today?” He asked with a smile.
“I have those papers from my Aunt. She signed them and I figured you'd want them as soon as possible.” Harry said, holding out the file with the papers inside.
“Wonderful. Thank you for being so prompt.” He said taking the file. “No Draco with you today?”
“No he had classes today. I figured get this done and drop them off...it also gives me a reason to go looking at some baby supplies.” Harry said with a grin.
Laughing, Mr. Laufey said, “Well then I won't keep you any longer. Have a good day, Harry.”
“You too, Mr. Laufey.” Harry said, turning and heading out of the office, taking the time to say goodbye to the secretary as well.
Heading down the alley towards Bumps Boutique, Harry took a glance at the darkening sky.
“Ugh I can't wait for this snow to stop.” He mumbled to himself as he walked into the store, sighing as the heat seeped into his body and warmed him up.
Walking in, Harry headed further into the store picking up random things as he browsed. He eventually made his way down an aisle filled with a menagerie of stuffed animals.
Smiling, Harry browsed through the vast collection there, eventually stopping and picking up a pure white teddy bear. As soon as he picked it up it started changing colors into a soft yellow, but then it started flickering through many different colors like a rainbow. Setting it down, Harry stepped back with a wary look at the stuffed animal.
Hearing a tinkling laugh, Harry turned and blushed when he saw a sales associate standing there.
“Don't worry we've had quite a few people have the same reaction to those. They actually just came in like two weekends ago.” She said with a smile.
“What are they...besides the obvious teddy bear response if you please.”
“They're, as I said, new. They're teddy bears with spells weaved into the stitching so that when a baby, or anyone really, is holding them they'll change colors to indicate what the baby is feeling. The white is the neutral color. There is also red for when the baby is feeling angry or upset, gray for when they're feeling sick or ill, yellow for happiness and others too. The tag is a small book that tells you what colors it can change to and what they mean.”
“Useful.” Harry said, looking at the tag.
“They are. I had a customer come back in after he purchased it and said it was the best thing. Apparently his son doesn't cry even when he's wet so it really helps them out.”
“Are all of the white animals in this aisle like this or is it just the bear right now?”
“It's just the bear. The company wanted to get a reaction to it before they started manufacturing it in different animals in case it was a flop.” She said with a shake of her head. “So was there anything I could help you find today?”
“No I'm just browsing around to be honest.”
“Alright well if you need any help I'll be around to answer any of your questions.”
“Thank you.” Harry said with a smile as she turned and walked down the aisle towards a couple that seemed to be studying a carrier rather intently.
Turning around, Harry looked at the bears before he picked one up and it instantly turned into the bright, sunny yellow color again. Browsing around for a little longer, he gave up on finding anything when he glanced at his watch and saw the time.
Heading to the counter, Harry paid for the bear then rushed out of the store and back to the edge of the wards so he could head home. Heading into the floo station, Harry quickly tossed the floo powder into the fireplace then said his destination.
Stumbling out of the fireplace at the house, Harry bumped into Draco who had been standing in front of the fireplace, brushing off his cloak.
Wrapping his arms around Harry to steady him, Draco asked, “Where are you coming from?”
“I ran some errands and then went to the baby store.” Harry said, holding up the bag.
“Exactly what errands did you run?” Draco asked, narrowing his eyes.
“I went to my aunt to have the papers signed and that was it. After I left there I dropped the papers off to our lawyer then went to the store before coming back home.”
“You went there alone? What if they had hurt you or the baby?” He asked with a hiss, his nails starting to change into sharp claws.
“They wouldn't have tried since Sirius and Remus had sent them a vivid description of how exactly I defeated Voldemort. They were terrified of what I did to him and even more afraid that I'd do the same to them. Besides I wanted them out of my life for good and now they are. They've got their money and I never have to ever see them again...I couldn't wait for that to happen.”
Sighing, Draco pulled Harry close and pressed their foreheads together and said, “I know you couldn't wait for that. I just wish you had waited for me or asked Sirius or Remus to go with you.”
“In hindsight maybe I should have, but the baby and I are fine and we never have to see those people again.” Harry said, wrapping his arms around Draco causing the bag he was holding to press into Draco's spine.
“What did you buy?” Draco asked with a smile, wanting to change the subject.
“It's a cute little thing for the baby. I saw it and just couldn't not get it.” Harry said, face lighting up at the thought of the baby with the item in the bag.
Smiling at Harry's bright mood, Draco sat down on one of the nearby couches and pulled Harry down onto his lap. While he wasn't happy Harry had went alone, he was happy to see the carefree and stress free look on his mate's face. He'd do anything to keep that look there.
****END CHAPTER****
AN: Here's this chapter I hope you all enjoyed it. Sorry for the wait this weekend, but I spent some time away from the computer and out of the house with my friends. More will be up next week.
Also, I want some input. Which gender would you prefer to see for the baby? Let me know. :)
