Chapter 21
Beta'd by the most wonderful, amazing and stupendous Tenchi. Woman, you are the best and love you for all you do for me!
Walking into the kitchen at the Burrow, Percy gave a sad smile when his mother rushed up to him and hugged him tightly. Hugging her back, shutting his eyes, he sighed. This felt good. It had been so long since he let her do this that he forgot how good it felt.
When she broke it off and began to bustle around, getting him a plate of food, he seated himself at the table and looked at his father, who was eying him warily. That he expected as well. Sighing, folding his hands on the table in front of him, he looked down then said, quietly, “I'm sorry for all the hell I've put you both through. I let ambition cloud my judgment in so much and that led to a right mess.”Pleased with what he was hearing, Arthur nodded, but said nothing.Taking the plate from his mother and setting it down on the table, Percy waited for her to take a seat before he pressed on. “I resigned from my position with Fudge.” Stopping, he sighed and shook his head then added, “I imagine it's a case of too little, too late right now. I'm not going to come out of this mess smelling good. Though I'm not sure what charges can be leveled in my direction, if any, I'm sure I’m going to be looked at, hard, because of some of what I did.”“Let me ask this,” Arthur started, looking at his son, then pressed on, voice quiet, “did you resign because it was the right thing to do or just to cover yourself?”Looking down at the table, Percy thought it over then said, shaking his head, “Both, I think. I heard some of what's being said, more than what's been in the papers. I'm sick about some of it and how no one stepped in to do anything. I also know that if I stick by Fudge, it's going to be worse.”Sighing, Arthur nodded, but said nothing.“At least you admit you've made mistakes,” Molly told him quietly. The way she saw it, that was a big step for her wayward son.“This is bad,” Percy said, shaking his head. Quietly, he added, “I'm going to be honest in that I'm not going to have anything to do with Dumbledore. I keep hearing all kinds of things, none of them good. I want to reestablish a relationship with my family, but I won't help that man do anything.”“We've also backed away from Albus,” Arthur told him, starting to poke at his food with his fork. Shaking his head, he said, “We've made mistakes as well, ones I'm willing to own up to. The family, as a whole, is taking a step back and distancing themselves.”“And we're being honest about what we're questioned about,” Molly told him firmly with a nod. “Even the kids in school. I would suggest you do the same thing, Percy. It may not help in some areas, but the more honest you are about it, the better it's going to look in the future.”Starting to eat his food, Percy thought that over then nodded. “I think that's a good line of thinking to follow. Wallias and his crew are back and helping. No, that's not someone I want to chance playing with. I don't remember him from before, of course, but I know the man's reputation.”Serious look crossing his face, he glanced at Molly, who looked concerned as well, Arthur said, quietly, “They are pulling out big wands then. Wallias—no, he's not one to be trifled with. If he questions you, give him what he wants to know. If you don't, he'll get it out of you, one way or another.”Taking that as sound advice, Percy sighed, “I will, don't worry.”“What's he doing back? And who's he helping?” Molly inquired, curious.“Amelia called him back in at Rufus' request. I don't know much, obviously, as the leaks have got the DMLE scrambling, but I'm hearing the main targets are Fudge and Dumbledore,” Percy imparted. Shaking his head, he said, “That's not some kind of classified anything. The word about that is all over the Ministry as so many departments are scrambling to cover themselves over some of this and distance themselves from other parts.”Taking that for what it was, Arthur nodded, “Understood. If they brought him back in, they are preparing for something huge. And I don't mean mere slaps on the wrist either. No, this isn't good,”“It's a right mess,” Percy told him softly, looking between the two. Not wanting to get into more than they already knew, he changed topics, asking about his siblings and how they were doing, especially the ones in school. While doing that, though, he pondered making a visit to the DMLE that night, wondering if he couldn't get with Rufus or Amelia alone to work out something with them.
Looking at his wife where she was seated by him on the settee, Fudge shook his head. Voice quivering, he imparted, softly, tone not at all authoritative like it usually was at work, “I think the time has come for me to resign. I have a feeling that if I don't, they'll be coming for my head in just a matter of days. The fact that we got the official announcement today of sanctions leveled against us from France, not to mention all that's in the Seer, then my own words coming back to bite me with what's been said in the Prophet the last couple of years, if I don't, I think I will make it worse on myself.”
Reaching out and taking his hand, Millicent Fudge gave it a squeeze then said, quietly, looking at the floor, “You do what you think is best, Cornelius. I'll always stand beside you, you know that.”“I think this is for the best,” Cornelius told her with a slow nod of his head. “It's not going to stop what was set in motion with the Seer, but I can stay out of the limelight enough that we might have a chance at ducking most of what is coming my way. I hope anyway. I'm honestly not sure what charges they can level against me on some of it. My solicitor said that the slander of Mr. Potter would be a civil matter. That would be the biggest one. Dolores though—whatever comes from her will come my way as I told her to do what was needed. The same with so much else. Corruption is also a problem, what with the leaks and other pressure I put on things, like the Prophet. I don't know. The solicitor is looking into what the Ministry can do. He'll get with me when he knows something.”“Will it result in jail time?” Millicent asked her husband, looking his way.“As angry as everyone is right now? I would guess it will. At least from what I've heard,” Fudge said with a shuddering sigh. “I don't know. We have to wait and see on that.”“Maybe you can go in and see what type of deal you can make?” Mrs. Fudge suggested softly, not sure what to say here.“That's been mentioned as well,” Cornelius admitted, staring at the floor. “However, I was told not to expect that to pan out. As angry as everyone is, not to mention the furor this has caused, it's doubtful that there will be any kind of leniency granted to any of us involved in this mess.”Shaking her head, Millicent sighed, “We'll take it as it comes and go from there. It's best to not speculate when we don't know what is coming.” Shutting her eyes, she said, quietly, “Merlin, this is bad.”“So many mistakes were made,” Fudge told her. “So many errors in judgment, from not only myself, but from others, that it's just compounding what's already there. Then there will be the inevitable of people running to the DMLE to save their own skins. That's coming, I know it. One I'm sure will and if he does, I’m in even more trouble.”“Who's that?”“Percy Weasley. He's—well, he's one that I brought in for a specific reason. I don't think there is anything the DMLE can lay on him when it comes to charges that will result in jail time. There may be some minor ones. If he gives up what he knows, things that aren't protected by the Secrecy Act, I'm in even more trouble.”Rubbing a trembling hand over her forehead, Millicent sighed, not sure what to say here. Nothing was going to make any of this better, that she knew.Giving his wife's hand a squeeze, Cornelius said, “It's best not to try to figure out who might do what. For now, I need to focus on what we know for sure. With your help, I'll pen my resignation letter tonight and get it out tomorrow. Once that's done, we'll go from there.”“I'll give you all the help you need,” Millicent told her husband. Leaning against the man, she sighed. What a mess. She stayed out of the politics of it mostly, other than to ensure everyone knew she supported her husband, but she wondered what might come of this mess when the Seer began the articles. It had been her hope that Cornelius wouldn't be harmed. Now it appeared the worst would happen. From here, she would just have to roll with the punches.
Standing in Tom's office, surrounded by Remus, Sirius, Narcissa, Tom himself, and the Death Eaters he knew, Harry was leaning against Lucius, holding the man's mask, looking down at it. He had seen it before, of course, just never held it. By now, he knew he didn't need to fear anyone in these masks and that they were just for show so as to protect the people that wore them, nothing more. It was still strange to hold one. Especially because of what they meant from the past.
Patting Harry's back and letting his hand rest there, Lucius said, quietly, “You know what it looks like, so if you feel distressed look at me. Just keep your eyes locked with mine. If that's not possible, do the same with your godfather. You helped design his mask, so you know what to look for. Bella will be on the other side of Snape. She never wears a mask, so you can look her way as well. That's all you have to do, Harry. The others are going to ensure that the three of us are flanking the vile pervert. It's nothing to worry about.”“Alright,” Harry said quietly with a nod, fingering the designs on the mask.
Adjusting the black Death Eater robes, though not having his hood raised, Sirius added, snickering, “And just think how strange it is that I'm actually wearing these damned things and a mask. Your dad would be laughing his arse off at the mere thought of that!”Grinning at that, Harry said, “Very true! It's too ironic not to be a little funny.”“It is!” Sirius grinned, reaching over to clap Harry on the shoulder.Snorting, Tom shook his head, “There is no possible way he could be one of my Death Eaters. He would listen about as well as you would, Harry.” Already, he was in his glamour, something he did to put Harry more at ease with the situation. Quietly, he said, “I'll make sure to stand very close to you at all times. Narcissa agreed to stay as well. She'll stay right next to you and be in a robe similar to yours so Snape doesn't see her face. Nagini is going to stay draped over the chair and talk to you. You won't answer her back at first, of course, but you know no one will harm you if she's there. Once we're done, Narcissa will bring you back here. You'll then stay with Remus while we attend to the rest. That's all there is to it. You're perfectly safe.”“Yes, we'll find something to do,” Remus said, shifting around in his chair, trying to coax Padfoot, who had taking a real liking to him, off his lap. “While you attend to that, Padfoot and I are going to have a long talk about how he's not a lapdog and shouldn't try to act like one.”Snickering, looking at Remus, who you could barely see behind the bulk of the dog, Harry said, “He likes you.”“I think he needs to like me slightly less if this is the result of being liked a lot,” Remus snorted, trying to get comfortable with the massive dog draped over him, dodging his wagging tail and dealing with some of the slobbering.Shaking his head, still grinning, Harry said, “I think I can do this.”“You'll be fine,” Lucius assured him. “It's nothing to worry about. You know you're protected with all of us around you. That's all that matters. Nothing more than that.”“You are,” Tom told him with a firm nod. “You have nothing to worry about.” Seeing the young man nod, he said, “Let's go get ready, then I'll summon Snape.” Seeing everyone nod, he made his way towards the Vanishing Cabinet in the other room so he could get to the abandoned house that they would be using for the meeting.Feeling Harry's head lean against his bicep, Lucius patted his back again. Quietly, he said, “Let's go. That way you can get a look around at what is where so you know how to judge where to look.”Giving a shaky sigh, handing Lucius his mask then tugging at the black hooded robes he was wearing, Harry nodded. “Let's do this.”
Feeling a familiar burn ignite his arm, Severus hissed and clutched onto it through his robes. Heart now hammering in his chest, he tried to think what to do. Of all the things so far, the Dark Lord himself was probably the easiest to deal with. He was sure he could get there and back to his hiding place with no problem. There was also the fact that the man probably wasn't going to say anything at all about what was going on. After all, there were plenty of Death Eaters that did vile things all the time. No, he didn't need to worry about this. Though, for safety sake, he needed to alert Albus.
Feeling the Dark Mark twinge again, he tossed some Floo powder into the fireplace and knelt down. When Albus' head appeared in the fire, he said, “I've been summoned. When I get back, I'll fill you in on what happened this way. I won't chance coming over to your house.”Nodding, looking concerned, Albus cautioned, “Be careful, Severus. Pay close attention to what's said. With all that's going on, Tom will only take advantage of the situation. We need any information he can give us.”“I will, never fear,” Severus told him with a firm nod. Cutting off the connection, he summoned his robe and mask. Donning them quickly, he strode out of the house and Apparated away to the assigned meeting place, wondering just what was going to be covered tonight.
Standing in a small room with Narcissa, off the decrepit ballroom the meeting was being held in, Harry was trying to stay calm. This was it, he knew it; he had to face the man finally. That alone had him on edge. He was safe, no doubt there, it was still just the idea was all. All those memories made it hard to do this. And he wasn't sure if he would make it through the whole thing either. He was going to try, that's for damned sure, if for no other reason than to show the greasy git that he could, it was going to be hard though.
Stepping in front of the nervous young man, Narcissa smiled at him then said, quietly, “We're fine, Harry. You're going to be fine. I'll be right next to you the whole time.” Leaning forward, she gave the young man a soft kiss on the temple, the kind of thing she did to her own son. Rubbing his head gently, she raised the hood on his robes and adjusted it to where his face couldn't be seen. Smiling in a reassuring way, she said, “It's all good. Trust Tom, that's all you have to do. Everyone in that room will protect you, that's all you need to know. It'll be over and done with soon. Then we move on from there.”Giving her a shaky nod, Harry said, “Yeah, I think I can do this.”Taking his hand and giving it a squeeze, Narcissa told him gently, “It's nothing to worry about. Keep that in mind.”
Striding into the meeting place, Severus quickly looked around while he walked up then knelt in front of Voldemort. It didn't appear to be a full meeting this time, only a very select number of high placed Death Eaters. That was good. These kinds of meetings always yielded plenty of information that they needed to know about plans that could be countered or stopped before they happened. It was these kinds of meetings that made what he did, and the stresses that came from this dual life, all worthwhile. Albus would be pleased with the results.
After being acknowledged, Severus stepped back into the open place between Bella and who he was sure was Lucius because of the mask and long blond hair that poked out of his hood. This was always a good position to be in as he sometimes overheard things that could help. The only thing that had him on edge was the person behind him was one he didn't recognize. The mask alone was one he was damned sure he had never seen before. Such things were always something that put him on edge. Generally, they meant nothing, just that the Dark Lord had a new recruit of some kind, probably high-placed, that he needed to have overhear what was said. Hopefully, before the night was over he would have clues as to who this might be that he could pass along.Stiffening up and focusing on the Dark Lord as the man started to speak, he was on full alert for any information that could help.
Making sure everyone was in their assigned places and keeping a wary eye on Black, who was already fingering his wand and shooting murderous glares at Snape, Tom began to pace before his chair. “Over the last several years, since my resurrection, I've worked hard to cultivate one relationship that would help us immeasurably in what we're trying to do. With the help of my right hand man,” he said, nodding to Lucius, “I was able to do just that. The trust wasn't there, that's for sure, but I was able to work with the situation. Tonight, for the first time, you're going to see the result of all that hard work. It's also going to mean that everyone here is tasked with protecting someone to the best of their abilities. They are someone who needs that, desperately, and they have been given my word that we will do so.” Stopping, he looked around then said, “With what is going on in the UK at this moment in our world, something we all know only aids us and our cause, this may be more difficult than it seems. However, I know most of you here are more than up for the task.” Stopping, hearing the usual chorus of 'yes, my Lord' from those assembled, while watching people shift around slightly, something he wanted so that Snape was as surrounded as he could get with those he knew were the strongest, he then called out over his shoulder, “Bring him in.”
Knowing that was the signal, Narcissa put a hand on the now stiff Harry's arm. Giving it a pat, she said, “Just look at those you trust and tune out what is said. All you have to do.” Feeling him tremble slightly, but seeing the nod, she led him out as planned, ensuring her own hood was covering her face.Watching Harry being led to him, Tom waited until the young man was beside him. As surreptitiously as he could, he gave Harry a reassuring pat on the back as Narcissa took her place right beside the young man. Looking around, he said, “He is no Death Eater. That I want made clear to all of you here. What position he is in is one of me protecting him. I gave him my guarantee that he will be protected. I am tasking most of you here with doing that as well. You will do so just as you would myself.” Stopping, he waited for Bella to go by the script.“Who are we dealing with, my Lord,” Bella asked on cue, bowing slightly as she did, waiting for what she knew was coming.Nodding to the woman, pleased, Tom looked around then said, tone firm, “What you see does not go beyond these chambers. If it gets out, I will personally deal with you. There is nothing, nowhere, that will save you from my wrath.” Pretending to glare around, he waited for the normal nods and assurances.Mind working quickly, Snape gave the normal agreement, but felt his heart hammering in his chest. This was big, really big. It meant that the Dark Lord had recruited someone with some real power of some kind. Albus would love this information. Now all he had to do was wait and see who it was. After hissing softly to Harry in Parseltongue, something that would sound like he was talking to Nagini, reassurances and reminders to focus on those they discussed, Tom reached up and lowered Harry's hood. Looking around, smirking like would be expected, he said, firmly, “Mr. Potter is not our enemy anymore. We will not in any way harm him. You will protect him the best you can with everything you have.” Laying a hand on Harry's shoulder, Tom continued, “Mr. Potter and I came to an agreement many years ago on the issues between us. What the other side touts to its followers is wrong. Mr. Potter has not been in agreement with Albus Dumbledore's line of thinking since before that debacle at the World Cup. He has also not been in any danger from me. In fact, I've done everything in my power to protect him. What Albus Dumbledore touts about Mr. Potter is a myth. What people think in the way of Mr. Potter as being Albus Dumbledore's golden boy is a myth. The notion that Mr. Potter blindly follows Albus Dumbledore and backs him up is a myth. It has been for years. Mr. Potter is not a Death Eater, he's not one of my many spies or agents, he's a young man that wants no part of this war. That I've assured him is something we will see to.”Standing there, keeping a neutral expression and trying not to let the shock he was feeling show in his eyes, Severus couldn't believe what he was seeing and hearing. Potter was with the Dark Lord in some way? This was beyond what he could fathom. A cold chill dancing down his spine, he felt his guts curdle and writhe. Oh, this was bad, very bad.Tuning out what Tom was saying, Harry listened to Nagini hiss reassurances to him, feeling her slither up his body and drape over his shoulders. Petting her, he looked at Lucius, who gave him a small smile he was sure only he could see. Then his eyes shifted to Sirius, who gave him a thumbs up. However, as he did that, he couldn't help but glance at Snape. The man's eyes were unreadable, of course. There was an icy chill in his gut as he looked at those black eyes, one that triggered all kinds of memories he didn't like and sure as hell didn't want to deal with, but he was also able to see Sirius behind the man as well as Lucius and Bella out of the corners of his eyes. Both of them were soothing in a way. After all, nothing would happen to him if they were there. Tom was on one side of him, Narcissa on the other and Nagini around his shoulders. Add in the fact that everyone else in the room was someone he knew that would protect him, and he felt better. He could handle this.Looking at Snape once more, Harry shifted his gaze then looked at Lucius, deciding that he was fine and could deal with what came.Wrapping up what he had to say, something that was for show when it came to Snape as everyone else in the room knew it, Tom then looked at the young man beside him. Harry seemed to be doing fine. Hissing for Nagini to climb on his shoulders, he said, “You can go back now, Harry.” That was Narcissa's signal to take Harry to the Vanishing Cabinet so he could go to his home. It was also the hint for Harry that if he wanted to say something to the man, he could.Feeling Narcissa's gentle hand on his arm, Harry's gaze slid to Snape. Quietly, as he locked eyes with the man, he said, “I almost feel sorry for you, almost. It must be miserable to be as disgusting as you are. And to have to live with all you've done.” It wasn't planned, it wasn't rehearsed, it just came out. He sure as hell felt better though. Looking over the man's shoulder at Sirius, who he could see grinning, he nodded. Gaze then sliding to Lucius, who was smiling as well and nodding his approval, he smiled back a little then let Narcissa lead him away. Yeah, he was going to be fine.As the young man left, eyes locked on Severus, Tom waited for the signal from Narcissa that the two of them were entering the Vanishing Cabinet. When he heard it, he stepped forward and yanked the mask off Severus. Glaring at the man, he hissed, “I warned you, bluntly, that Mr. Potter was to be left alone. Nowhere in my instructions did that include raping him, Severus.” Stepping back, watching the wands of those behind the man raise and train on him, Tom imparted, “Mr. Potter has been under the protection of someone very powerful since after his second year, Severus. One you never knew about. First, it was because they were friends. Now, well, it's because he's his young man.” Nodding to Lucius, he waited for the man to remove his mask. When Lucius did, smirking, he said, “Mr. Potter is Lucius' young man, one he protects with everything he has.” Raising his chin, he said, “And, despite what you are like, Mr. Potter has protected you as well. As I said, Mr. Potter is not a spy. What he knows of the Order, and what goes on there, has never been brought up. There was only one thing that was ever told to me about that and it had to do with those damned lessons you used to torture him with. Before he did, he negotiated with me to protect you, something I gave my word to him about. Yes, Severus, I've known since those lessons you were Albus' pet spy. I kept my word to Mr. Potter and not harmed you. I'm not alone in finding it ironic that you owe your life to not only James Potter, but his son as well, the young man that you chose to take your aggression out on since his first year.”Standing there, mouth dry, Severus looked at the Dark Lord, heart pounding so hard that he was sure it would explode. He was in real, serious trouble now.Smirk forming on his lipless mouth, Tom said, “And the time has come for retribution. This was a setup, Severus, from the beginning. Everyone in this room, but you, knew I was protecting Mr. Potter. Lucius, of course, wants his revenge for what you did to his young man. He saw firsthand how bad it was as he's the one that rescued him from the castle that night. However, there is one more that does as well. Unlike everyone else in this room, he's not one of my Death Eaters. No, he never has been. However, he asked me to allow him to help in making you pay. That I granted him.” Looking behind the man at Black, he nodded.Stripping his mask off and lowering his hood, Sirius leveled his wand at Snape then hissed in a deadly voice, “Hello, Snivellus. We meet again.”Eyes widening fractionally, knowing that voice, Severus swallowed thickly. Oh Merlin, he was in trouble now.Folding his arms over his chest, Tom smirked bigger. “Yes, Black is going to have a hand in helping. As is Bella.” Hearing her cackle in a manic way, he gave an amused snort. “Bella actually likes Mr. Potter quite a lot. And the feeling is returned by him. This should be amusing, don't you think, Severus?” Seeing the man look at him, Tom stepped back then took a seat in his chair. Quietly, he said, “Gentlemen, and lady, you may have your fun before I step in and do what's needed.” Eyes locked on Severus, he said, “You will prefer death at the end, but you're not going to be that lucky, Severus.”Feeling his wand being yanked away by Bella, Severus stood there, eyes locked on the Dark Lord. Oh Merlin, retribution was nigh and he was going to pay, painfully!
Petting Padfoot, who was perched in the chair beside him, leaning against him, Harry made a move on the chessboard then waited. He and Remus were playing a game. As he was getting his arse handed to him in a spectacular way, Narcissa was giving all the help she could. It wasn't helping much.
Lifting his head and looked at the door when he heard voices approaching, Harry waited until Tom and the rest came in. Tom had removed his glamour already, which told him everything was handled. Sirius walked in, stripping out of his robes. Lucius came up behind him and put his hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. Putting his hand on Lucius', he looked at Tom and waited.“It's been handled,” Tom told him softly. “He'll be in the hands of the Ministry in under ten minutes time. Never again will he harm anyone the way he did you and the others. That we promise you. You are safe from him for the rest of your life, Harry.”Taking that for what it was, not wanting to ponder details, Harry nodded. “You're all protected, right?”“We're fine, Harry,” Sirius told him firmly. “Tom made sure of it. It's nothing to worry about.”Not wanting more details than that, Harry nodded. “Alright, that's good.”“Now we just press on and wait, nothing more,” Tom said, giving the young man a reassuring smile. Looking around, he began to talk about what to do to protect themselves. As that also involved the ones that weren't his Death Eaters, he wanted them to hear it.Conjuring a chair, Lucius took a seat by Harry, resting a hand on his knee. He felt better now, knowing he had exacted revenge for what was done to Harry. Now they could move on and work with the problems that came from what happened.
Grumbling at being awoken by the Floo call, Amelia crawled out of bed and slipped into her robe. Padding to the other room, she pondered what this could be about. From the signal on the call, she knew it was work related. That had her on edge. It was well after office hours, so if they were contacting her, it was something big. Thankfully, it wasn't that late. However, with as tired as she was, she had gone to bed early, hoping to get some extra rest. Now, though, that was probably not going to happen.
Seeing the signal that it was Rufus, she knelt down and took the call. “What's going on?” She asked warily.“Sorry for bothering you, but we need you back, quickly,” a tired looking Rufus said, shaking his head.“What's going on?” She asked, already planning on going back in. After all, Rufus never called her at home if it wasn't an emergency of some kind.“A couple things we need you for. First, we have Percy Weasley here. He's willing to give up everything he has on Fudge. As big of fish as he is to catch, we need it, and fast. We don't want anyone knowing he's talking.” Rufus told her, sucking down a vial of Pepper-Up to stay alert. That was big and something she wanted so Amelia nodded, “Good. Keep him isolated and we'll talk. Anything else?”“Yeah, and one we need to handle first. We have Snape. One of the Hitwizards got a tip and found the man. He is not in good shape, at all. Someone, somewhere, probably an irate parent, got their hands on him. We have him isolated and some Healers working on him as I didn't want to chance taking him to St. Mungos. When they're done, we can have at him. Either way, he's in our custody and you need to be here for whatever we're going to do.”Nodding firmly, Amelia said, “As soon as I get dressed, I'll be there. How bad is he?”“He'll live,” Rufus told her grimly. “Nothing done to him was life-threatening.” Stopping, he gave a feral grin then added, “I can guarantee, though, he's not going to use his original equipment to molest kids again, that's for damned sure. And the curse on his forehead that spells out child molester will be there for the rest of his life.”“As long as he's in no danger of dying,” Amelia told him, though giving a grim internal grin at the poetic justice of what she was told. “Alright, give me about twenty minutes and I'll be in.” Seeing Rufus nod, she cut the connection then stood with a groan to dress. Though not pleased about going back in, what she was going in for did please her. Something, somewhere, was finally going their way.
