Chapter 21
"So, are you two ready to do the scan?" the Healer asked, looking between the two of them.
Hermione held Sirius' hand nervously, biting her lip. Sirius answered for them both. "Yes, we're ready."
"All right," the Healer began. She waved her wand in the air, saying the spell.
Sirius and Hermione held their breath in nervousness. Hermione's heart raced as she squeezed Sirius' hand tightly.
A pink light shone over Hermione's abdomen.
"Oh my goodness!" Hermione squealed excitedly, a huge smile on her face. "Does that mean it's a girl?"
"Yes, it is!" the Healer said, beaming. "Congratulations."
Hermione turned to Sirius, planting a firm kiss on his lips. "Can you believe it? We're having a little girl!"
Sirius grinned. "I know, kitten, I know. I'm so happy."
She turned to the Healer. "Is she healthy?"
The Healer nodded. "Everything seems to be developing according to plan. I believe you'll be giving birth to a healthy little girl."
Hermione couldn't stop smiling. "Oh, this is wonderful news. Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome, Miss Granger. I'll see you both at your next appointment in two months. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to send me an Owl."
"Thank you," Hermione said.
"We will," Sirius replied at the same time.
The two of them shared a loving glance.
"Right, well, have a nice day you two." The Healer disappeared, leaving them alone.
"Ready to tell everyone?" Sirius asked, helping Hermione up from the bed.
"Yes," she gushed. "I'm so excited." She walked towards the door. "What should we name her?"
Sirius shrugged. He grabbed Hermione's wrist and pulled her towards him. Wrapping her in his arms, he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. He gently bit her lower lip, causing her to open her mouth in surprise. He deftly slid his tongue inside her mouth, kissing her passionately as his hands gently cupped her arse. Closing his eyes, he savored the kiss.
"What was that for?" she asked once they broke apart.
Sirius chuckled, rubbing his nose against hers. "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on."
Hermione blushed, giving him a shy smile. "I think you're the most beautiful person I've ever met."
He chuckled. "I like to think I'm more handsome than beautiful, but whatever you say darling."
"Come on," Hermione said, taking his hand and leading him towards the door. "We need to pick up my parents and then head home. Everyone is coming over for dinner."
"Shall we make the announcement then?" Sirius asked, walking her towards the Floo.
"Yes." Hermione beamed. "Oh, I'm so happy it's a girl. Eridanus is going to have a little sister!"
Sirius chuckled. "Yes, we will. I'm sure he'll be very protective of her."
"How adorable!" Hermione exclaimed before stepping into the fireplace.

"Hermione, can't you just tell us the gender," her mother begged as the four of them stepped into Grimmauld Place.
"No, Mum," Hermione said, his voice firm. "I want to wait until everyone's here so I can tell them."
"But we're your parents!" Amelia begged.
"Stop pestering your daughter," Hugo said, putting his arm around his wife. "We'll just find out with everyone else, all right?"
"But I want to know now!" Amelia protested, making a face at her daughter.
Hermione grinned, shrugging. "Sorry, Mum, but you'll just have to wait like everyone else."
Hermione moved into the kitchen where Ginny was putting the finishing touches on dinner.
"It's almost ready," Ginny said when Hermione walked in. "If you want to start moving the dishes to the table, I'd appreciate it."
"All right," Hermione said. There was so much food, enough to feed a small army. "How many people are coming over?"
Ginny grinned. "The whole Order basically."
"Ginny!" Hermione squealed. "Why so many people?"
Ginny put her hands on her hips, just as Molly would. "This is a happy occasion. We're celebrating with a party, got it?"
Hermione sighed, shaking her head. "Whatever you say."
"Besides, everyone needs some good in their lives every once in a while."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Hermione questioned warily.
"Nothing, nothing," Ginny said with a wave of her hand. "Just get the food on the table."
Hermione shrugged, figuring it was just the baby nerves. Ginny had been waddling along most of her pregnancy, but with her due date fast approaching, it seems as if she might just pop.
The front door opened.
Sirius greeted everyone as they began to come in. The Weasleys were first to arrive, Molly going straight towards Amelia. Ron and the twins moved towards the kitchen.
When the Lupins came in, Sirius walked right over, taking Eridanus from Tonks' arms.
"Daddy!" Eridanus squealed, laughing as Sirius hugged him.
"Hey, little man, did you have a good time."
"Yes!" he squealed, before squirming in Sirius' arms. Sirius, taking the hint, put Eridanus down onto the floor. The little man took off running into the crowd.
"Was he any trouble?" Sirius asked Remus and Tonks.
Tonks shook her head, taking Teddy from Remus' arms. "The two of them played blocks together most of the time."
"And by played, she means Teddy sat there and watched," Remus said with a chuckle.
"He played a little bit!" Tonks protested. She took off into the crowd.
Remus laughed, watching her as she left. "Tonks thinks that if Teddy plays with Eridanus or Victoire a lot, he'll be super smart later on or something like that."
Sirius nodded in understanding. "Hermione's been reading all that baby Einstein stuff as well. Frankly, with our brains, both of our children will be mischievous geniuses."
Remus let out a laugh. "Too right you are, mate." He clapped Sirius on the back before walking off.
The door opened and Lavender walked in. "Hello, Sirius, Remus," she greeted them.
"Hi Lavender," Sirius replied. "Ron and the others are in the kitchen."
"Thanks!" she replied cheerfully, heading in that direction.
Sirius walked around, greeting everyone. He finally found Hermione talking with Albus and Minerva.
"I've just put the final touches on the manuscript if either of you would care to look it over," she was saying.
"She worked on it very hard," Sirius interjected, wrapping his arms around Hermione. He placed a loving kiss to the top of her head.
"Sirius!" she exclaimed, smiling at him. "We were just discussing my book."
"She's done so well," Minerva said proudly. She gave Hermione a motherly look. "I've never been so proud of a former Gryffindor."
The four of them laughed.
"Don't let any of the other Gryffindors hear you say that," Sirius said with a chuckle.
Minerva made a zipping motion across her lips, giving Hermione a wink.
"But thank you, both of you," Hermione said. "I wouldn't have gotten anywhere without either of you."
"Well, you did the hard part," Albus said. "We only steered you in the right direction."
"Well, thank you," Hermione said.
At that moment, Ginny entered the living room. "Dinner's ready!" she announced.
Everyone moved to the kitchen, taking a seat at the elongated table. The food smelled absolutely wonderful.
Sirius helped Hermione sit down and began to make her a plate.
"Thanks, love," she said, giving him a quick kiss.
Everyone dug in.
Once dinner was finished, Hermione stood. Clearing her throat, she gained everyone's attention. Sirius gave her a grin of support.
"Well, I know you're all here for a certain announcement and here it is." She smiled at everyone before taking a deep breath. "Sirius and I are going to be having a healthy baby girl."
Cheers erupted.
"Congratulations!"
"A girl, I knew it!"
"Oi, you owe me five sickles!"
Hermione took her seat, beaming. She couldn't have been happier than she was in this moment. "I love you," she whispered to Sirius.
"I love you," he replied, kissing her lips.
Looking around the room, she shook her head when she saw her mother crying. "Oh Lord," she said, sighing.
"What?" Sirius inquired.
"Look at my Mum. She's sobbing."
Sirius chuckled. "She's happy for us. I'm happy for you us, too."
"But you're not crying," Hermione said, arching her brow.
"Would you like me too?"
Hermione laughed. "Maybe later, sweetheart."
There was a clearing of throats.
Everyone glanced down the table and saw Ron standing. Lavender was sitting next to him, practically bouncing in her seat.
"Er, not to steal Hermione and Sirius' moment, but we have an announcement too." He looked around the room. "We're expecting!"
Lavender clapped her hands together. "I just found out this morning!" she gushed.
Hermione smiled, happy for the two of them. She had known Lavender and Ron had been trying for a baby for quite some time. She was pleased things had finally worked out for them both.
"What a day," Sirius said, putting his arm around Hermione's shoulder. "Everyone's so happy."
She nodded in agreement. "It's sort of contagious, isn't it?"
Ginny stood quickly, a squeak escaping her lips.
"Ginny?" Hermione asked, looking at her in concern.
"I've got an announcement too," she said, her eyes wide with fear. "My water just broke!"
