Alexandra’s POV

After I read the note of Regulus’ lover, he burned it. ‘Bring him?’ I asked, unsure what Regulus had told his lover. ‘I told him I was taking you to the Malfoy party, but I think I may have referred to you as Alex.’ I nodded in understanding, he thought Alex was a boy. ‘He’s rather jealous and possessive’ Regulus told me before taking down the ward so we could go down for diner. I wasn’t worried about meeting the guy, after all, it would be clear that I was a girl. Regulus however was as nervous as a turkey on thanksgiving. I was worried that one of the teachers would find him when he tried to sneak out of the castle.
I played with the food on my plate, relieved that Mary was taking a great interest in the gossip this night. If she had noticed, she would have started bugging me, trying to get me to talk about what was wrong. Regulus sat next to Severus, who was pointedly ignoring me. I would have wondered what that was about, if I hadn’t been so worried about Regulus’ reaction. After diner I went to the common room, and told Mary that I would go jogging. ‘It’s freezing outside, are you crazy?’ she asked me. I ignored her, and took out my jogging gear. Jogging would give me the perfect excuse to avoid people altogether. I sighed in relief as I made it out of the castle without running into anyone. Once outside, I headed for the quidditch pitch, which was the ideal place to run some laps. Unfortunately for me Gryffindor had was practicing, so I had to put up with a lot of shouting, whistling, and other annoying sounds in my direction. The stopped paying me any attention when Sirius punched one of his teammates in the face for making some indecent remark about me. I didn’t stop jogging until I was sure that they were all in the dressing rooms. I decided it was time to go, while they were all taking a shower, lest one of them catch me of guard on my way to the castle.

I barely made my meeting with Regulus in time. I had jogged longer than I originally planned, and the shower felt so good, it was a shame to go outside again. I dressed carefully in layers, because Regulus had told me about his lover’s jealous streak, I wanted to look as feminine as possible, without being cold. I decided to leave my hair down, it would be hidden within my hood, but still. When I got to the front doors of the castle, I saw Regulus tapping his watch, as if to tell me I was late. ‘I’m sorry, I had to duck in an empty classroom to avoid Peeves.’ I told him, it was true, it was what made me later than we had planned.
We both pulled up our hoods, and set of towards the edge of the forest, by the bank of the lake. Apparently this was where we were supposed to wait. We stood there in an uneasy silence. I checked my watch, it was curfew. I had left Mary a note, telling her I was meeting up with Regulus. That would keep her from coming after us, for all she knew I was trying to get back at Sirius by being with his brother.
I heard a rustle of leaves to our left, and pulled Regulus behind me, pointing my wand towards the sound. A dark cloaked figure was approaching, I braced myself for a fight. The figure stopped just in the treeline. ‘Show yourself’ I commanded. He lowered his hood, I saw a good looking dark haired man, I was sure I had met him before. ‘Tom’ Regulus whispered. I had to admit, Regulus had good taste, Tom was rather attractive.
I kept my wand out just in case, but Regulus made his way to Tom and embraced him. Without sparing me one more glance, Tom kissed Regulus. I felt like an intruder in a very private moment, but I decided to give them this moment, as I was sure they didn’t see eachother much.
When Regulus pulled away, they both looked at me, Tom keeping a possessive arm around Regulus. ‘So you are Alex?’ Tom asked, he had a cold voice, emotionless. I lowered my hood, revealing myself, just for a minute, before I pulled the hood back up. If anyone happened to be looking out of the window, I didn’t want to be seen. ‘It seems there has been a misunderstanding’ I told him ‘I am Alexandra Zabini, my friends refer to me as Alex, or Lex.’ I paused, and then added ‘I’m sure I don’t need to tell you I am a woman, and no threat to you.’
He smiled at Regulus. ‘Something you forgot to include in your note?’ he asked. Regulus shrugged ‘Everyone always calls her Alex, except for my brother who calls her Lex, I thought it was obvious that I was going to attend the ball with a girl to keep up the pretence.’ Tom offered my his hand, and I took it to shake hands, but instead he raised it to his mouth and grazed his lips over my knuckles. ‘It’s a pleasure to see you again miss Zabini’ he said politely.
I gave him a small nod, acknowledging him. ‘I’m Tom riddle, we’ve met at your father’s estate last summer.’ I suddenly remembered that I had indeed met him before. He had looked so different, he had also been introduced to me under another name then. ‘You’re Voldemort’ I said, shocked that I hadn’t realised before.
He nodded, looking at Regulus again. ‘Are you sure you can handle that information?’ He asked me. ‘I’d be willing to obliviate you if I believed you’d go telling someone about this.
I looked up at him, and took a threatening step in his direction, making myself as tall as possible. ‘I’ll keep your secret for Regulus, but if you ever were to hurt him, I will hunt you down and kill you.’ I heard Regulus gulp at this. Tom however, merely chuckled.
‘It’s good that you have such a loyal friend’ he told Regulus. He turned his attention back to me ‘I don’t have much time, but can you swear, upon your magic, that you’ll keep this secret, and do anything in your power to protect Regulus?’ he asked me.

I didn’t need to think about that. I would always protect Regulus, even from his own stupidity. ‘I Alexandra Zabini swear upon my magic, that I will do everything in my power to protect Regulus from harm, as well as keep this secret.’ I felt the magical energy pulse around me as I pledged to protect Regulus.

‘Get him back inside, before we are caught.’ He told me. He kissed Regulus and turned back, dissolving in the fog that had crept up on us. ‘I feel like I have just made a pact with the devil’ I told him, he just smiled at me, and we walked back towards the castle.

AN: I’m so sorry for the long wait, it took me forever to write this chapter. I hope it isn’t too crappy.
Short version is life got in the way, and it was really busy at work for the past months.

I hope to give you more updates soon, and I hope to be more inspired for them.
