Hermione lay in her bed watching the moons rays reach across the white ceiling like skeletal fingers. It was the first time in months she’d been truly alone in Prince Manor and she was uncomfortable, it wasn’t strange bumps in the night or ghostly whispers from long dead occupents that kept her up that night. It was something far more terrifying...her wedding. Severus was at Malfoy Manor spending his last night as a free man with his old friends and Ginny was in her own private room in Prince Manor, most-likely sleeping peacefully while Hermione worried about her future and if she would make a good wife and some day a good mother. With a sigh Hermione left her bedroom and to the kitchen to get a good cup of tea to help with her nerves when she noticed movement coming towards the front door. She peeked out the side window and let out a surprised squeak before taking off up the stairs, her follower was a few feet behind her as she ran down the hallway and up another flight of stairs and in to the safety of the bedroom she knew only too well. She slammed the door and leaned against it as she heard the approaching footsteps slow down to a walk and then she heard him sitdown as well, with a curse Hermione slapped her hand against the closed door.
“Damn it, Severus” She said “You know how I feel about you seeing me before the wedding”
“It’s a dumb, muggle tradition” He said “And we need to talk”
“I was raised to believe that ‘dumb, muggle tradition’ as you call it” Hermione reminded him “And couldn’t we talk after the wedding?”
“This conversation needs to be held before the wedding” Severus informed her “I feel that you’re hiding things from me and if you refuse to tell me the truth than I fear there may not be a wedding”
“Is this about Neville again?” Hermione sighed “Severus, I told you...”
“That it’s a need to know situation” Severus finished for her “But in six hours I will be your husband...doesn’t that make me important enough to know?”
“It’s not an importance thing” Hermione said a little angrily “You just...you don’t really want to know”
“Hermione’ He said almost pleadingly “I love you and I am ready to meet you at the alter in...five and a half hours to make you my wife but I need to know those secrets that haunt you, so I can help you...please, tell me”
“Kingsley came to me one day about some Death Eaters who’d escaped prison time because of those they knew” Hermione started and she slid to the floor so she was laying down “He was upset, if he was unable to make them all pay for their crimes then we were just going in to the same world that spawned the likes of Bellatrix LeStrange and Voldemort”
“Why would he come to you?” Severus asked and she was little offended that he sounded surprised that someone would come to her for help.
“He just wanted to talk” Hermione answered after a few moments “But I made a joke, an off-handed comment about muggles hiring hitmen or headhunters and he started to run with it” She placed her hands over her face for another minute or so “I told him that there were other things that could be done. Private Investigators, Spies, Investigative Reporters that would love the chance to prove that these Death Eaters that had gotten off too lightly were really criminals but he didn’t want hear anything about it”
“So, he made Neville a hitman?” Severus asked “He gave him permission to kill people?”
“Not right away” Hermione explained “He went so long without doing anything I thought that he’d seen the light but then he came to my office and was talking, good-naturedly, with Neville about plants and I heard Neville say something about those damn Siren Seeds” She gave a humorless laugh “The first death I thought was just luck, the second...well, bad timing but the third was too much of a coincedence so I begged Harry to let me see the files on the deaths as every death was being investigated. I read how they all looked reletively happy to be dying and that was when I did the research on plants that could kill people in that manner and low and behold there is only one...Siren Seeds”
“So you aren’t a hitman...or hitwoman?” Severus confirmed and she laughed.
“Is that what’s been worrying you?” She asked “No, I am not a hitperson. I merely figured it out and confronted the minister. I told him what I figured out and he told me that if I told anyone he would make sure that I was implicated as being part of the horrible plans to kill those people and I too would be in prison”
“I’ll kill him...” Severus growled and she smiled to herself.
“It’s okay” She assured him “There’s no need for that”
“Hermione” Severus said “He blackmailed you, it’s not right...not fair”
“But Severus...” Hermione trailed off wondering how to word what she was thinking “I wouldn’t have made the suggestion of hiring Hitmen or Headhunters if a part of me didn’t really want to see them dead”
“I wanted them dead too” Severus admitted “Most of those who’d gotten free were some of the most bloodthirsty of Voldemorts Death Eaters...but we can’t take the law in to our own hands, surely you agree?”
“No” Hermione answered and Severus lifted his head from the floor and wished he could see her face to see if she was joking “I’m sorry Severus, when I first realized what Kingsley had done I was horrified but the more I thought about it...it made sense and it felt good to know that I helped get rid of those monsters”
“I guess I can understand that” Severus told her after a few minutes of silence “That explains why Neville has killed before, but what about his killing Xeno Lovegood?”
“Neville takes his friendships seriously” Hermione answered “And for the longest time he fancied himself in love with Luna. When he realized what was going on with her father he felt that he had to protect her now even though he’s gay and its been happening to her for years, he needed to protect her no matter what...the minister knows that”
“Kingsley knows?” Severus asked, then snorted to himself “Doesn’t really surprise me there”

Ginny stood behind Hermione as she stood in front of three full lengthed mirrors and was looking at her reflection. While the redhead loved her life, loved her career choice and loved traveling she knew that all too soon it would be coming to an end, just the week before the Holy-Head Harpies tried out a new Seeker, a girl of only eighteen who’d played Quidditch first with her family members and then for seven years in America because they didn’t have the rule banning first years joining the teams. At twenty-five years old Ginny Weasley already had a number of horrible injuries from the war, more injuries from team practices and games and she hated to admit it but she knew that her reflexes were getting slower due to arm injuries from bludgers. She was losing her heart in the game and she knew that if she lost too much then she’d be traded to some crappy little team that never left home and she’d be forgotten about completely. A washed up Quidditch star.
“Hermione” Ginny said “What would you think if I decided to get a job at the ministry?”
“I guess it would depend on the department you wanted to go to” Hermione answered honestly.
“I don’t know” Ginny said as she fluffed the back of her best friends wedding gown “Maybe an Auror...”
“A really boring office to be in now that all the Death Eaters have been caught” Hermione informed and watched the younger womans mouth twist in dislike.
“Then the Department of Mysteries” Ginny said happily as she gently tugged the back of the veil down a little more.
“A good department” Hermione agreed “However, the Minister makes sure that he has veto-power on everything and I have to say...he’s been vetoing alot of the more intersting cases”
“Your department?” Ginny tried with a deep sigh.
“Do you really want to make a career out of watching people die?” Hermione asked.
“Why does it feel like you’re just finding fault in every department I’ve said?” Ginny asked with a huff.
“What about Quidditch?” Hermione asked “You’ve been playing for ages and...what’s going on?”
“I’m geting old” Ginny said “I’ve had loads of injuries and some of them are making me...slower than I once was” Hermione snorted and sat down at the vanity in her room “You are only twenty-five...”
“The injuries...” Ginny said “Viktor Krum told me once that when they started to audition players for your positon in front of you saying that it was ‘just in case’ something happens to you...well then...it was time for you to find a new job”
“Okay” Hermione turned and looked at her before looking at the clock quickly “I have an hour before I walk down the aisle, I think I have enough time to figure out your future with you”
“Thank you” Ginny said.
“You want adventure?” Hermione asked as she crossed her legs “You want to go from one place to another every other week, learning knew cultures, meeting new people and only coming home when you are good and ready...to be your own boss, as it were”
“Yes” Ginny answered with a smile.
“Simple then” Hermione answered and then turned back to the mirror to start applying her make-up “Start your own newspaper or magazine”
“About what?” Ginny looked horrified.
“You are smart and can write very well” Hermione reminded her “Go places and learn stuff, write about it, take pictures. Show the magical world about the muggle world and all the wonders of both worlds, make people want to learn about different places, make children want to travel around the world”
“You think I can?” Ginny asked and Hermione smiled at her.
“Severus and I will give you the start up” She promised “I mean, after all you’ve done for us these last few weeks”
“All I’ve done is talk with you” Ginny pointed out.
“I promise that ‘just talking to me’ is what I needed more than anything else” Hermione assured her “There, now that we’ve got your future planned out, let’s get me married?”

Severus was wearing black slacks white shirt and a black vest and his signature black robe. All that was missing (other than his infamous billowing effect) was his trademark sneer, instead he looked nervous and was shuffling his feet before he would seem to notice what he was doing and then would yell at himself in his mind just to do it again a few minutes later. His palms were sweating which was odd because Severus Snape didn’t sweat, he refused to, it was a disgusting act and he wouldn’t have it...but as he stood there and listened to thier friends and her family taking their seats, hugging and laughing and commenting on how beautiful Prince Manor was, he was sweating and felt a little faint. Severus had no clue what was wrong with him, being married to Hermione would only be too perfect and it couldn’t be any different than dating her, they’d been living together for just under a year, both had jobs and managed to have thier life together and their own personal lives all at the same time, so really what was the difference? That brought out all his fears, what if he was a bad husband, what if they could’t have children...what if they could?! He was close to hyperventilation and was just starting to map out his best escape route when the familiar bridal song started up and Draco tapped his shoulder gently but it still caused him to jump.
“Severus, it’s time” He whispered.
“I...I can’t do this” Severus breathed.
“Yes, you can” Draco assured “If you can be a spy, right under Voldemorts...err....well his eyes then you can repeat some vows and say ‘I do’ and be with the woman you love and who loves you”
“You’d think so, wouldn’t you?” Severus let out a strange forced laugh “But...there are so many things that can go wrong”
“Yeah there are” Draco agreed “But you need to have faith that you can get through these things together and be the stronger for it”
“What would you know about the things that can go wrong?” Severus snapped as the brides maids started to come down the aisle “You know only what you’ve been told...”
“Severus I know that our problems are different” Draco answered “But in the end if you love her that’s all that matters” He snorted “And ‘what do I know?’ you’re such an ass I don’t know why I’m your best man. What do I know about hardships? I’m just a gay, pureblooded, ex-death eater who is married to his Hogwarts nemesis who has actually tried to kill me before...and did I mention that my husband is Harry Friggin Potter?!”
Severus was about to respond to his attitude with a bit of his own when the doors to the house opened and everyone stood to get their first look at the bride as she made her way to the alter. He stopped shaking as he looked at her, the fear that he’d been feeling was washed free and he knew that he looked like an idiot staring wide-eyed at her and he was sure that his mouth was hanging open. Her hair was half pulled back still leaving some hanging down in her perfect ringlets, her make up was soft with neutral earth tones that only accentuated her natural beauty. Hermione’s wedding gown hugged her her body perfectly and made her torso look longer than it actually was, the top had a sweetheart neckline with laced straps that went around the tops of her upper arms just under her shoulders. There were lines with tiny emroided flowers and lace down the bodice giving it a corset look and went down in to beautiful flowing dress that trailed out behind her several feet, the back of the corset type top was completely see-through lace showing off her back stopping only mere inches above the swell of her bottom. Laying over the white satiny fabric of the dress was more lace that had little snakes and lions hand embroided (by Ginny) along the hem of the gown. The last bit of her wedding ensamble was the veil that was held in to place with a clip that pushed up under her half ponytail and went to the middle of her back. Hermione was the most beautiful woman in the world as she walked down the aisle on her fathers arm with that nervous little smile on her face and her eyes shining brightly.
The vows said, the promises made to love one another were done and the kiss sealing the whole thing and finally they were stepping out on to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. Family and friends watched as they floated across the floor in a world all thier own, eyes locked, lips inches apart but always moving as they whispered to one another. Those who watched, wondered what they were saying and if it was utterly romantic however the two ‘lovebirds’ were actually arguing over who was going to say the first toast when they sat back down. Finally, the song ended and Severus held her hand as he led her back to the head table and took his seat once she was seated herself, they looked at one another daring the other to make a reach for the glass and were surprised when there was a tapping from Ginny’s glass. The redhead stood from her spot and smiled at everyone that were now looking at her before she looked at the bride and groom and she heaved a sigh.
“Hermione” She started “And Severus. What can I say about you two?” Others laughed “When Hermione told me that she was going to be working for Severus Snape I...was horrified with the idea, he was so mean and the house was in the middle of nowhere but when I came home from my tour I found someone I had been missing for a long time” She paused and looked at the bride again with tears in her eyes “I found the Hermione Granger I went to school with. She was inquisitive again, happy and driven, she had that light back in her eyes and she was working on the impossible again. I have to say that it was nice to see her again, they’ve worked together to heal one another, to trust, to love and to grow” She held up her glass and the others followed suit “To the new, happy couple. May you continue to learn, grow and love and may that light never leave either of your eyes”
Hermione kept looking at Severus while everyone was taking their turns saying what they wanted about the bride and groom. Happy stories that made him laugh, memories that made him frown and occasionally the little bit of information that he didn’t know and he would look at her with an amused look in his eyes. In the same sense when his friends, coworkers and former students shared the stories and memories she had another whole new look in to his past that she never knew. Each story and each memory made her fall in love with him even more and she found herself unable to hide her smiles at him as he watched her. Then...it was thier turns to make toasts, they’d insisted on it. Hermione stood up quickly and heard him mutter a curse under his breath, she maturely looked over at him and playfully stuck her tongue out.
“Severus Snape scared the hell out of me” Hermione announced and saw several former students (even some Slytherins) nod thier agreement “But I decided to work for him, he was mean but I didn’t listen and when he told me that he was cursed I believed him. I freed him of his curse and he freed me of many of my own including ones I’d accidently put on myself” Some people wiped thier tears away “He told me once that I saved him but that he quite literally saved me more than once. So I make a toast to Severus Snape, for challenging me, educating me and most of all for loving me, because I love you more than life itself”
“Thank you” Severus said as he stood up after giving her a kiss “We were fighting out there on the dance floor over who got to give the first toast, me or her. Thank you Ginny for helping us, however unknowingly, with that particular problem” Everyone chuckled and she playfully bowed a few times “I could stand here and say the same things that Hermione did. I could easily thank her for teaching me and loving me but that would be a little boring now wouldn’t it?” He heard a former student call out ‘never stopped you before’ which made everyone laugh “Instead” He continued with a half-hearted sneer “I’m going to tell you, Hermione what I want from our marriage. I want you always question me because even when I get upset it reminds me that you love me, I want you to keep challenging me just because it amuses me, I want you to fight with me so we can make up and I want you to trust me when I need you to” Hermione brushed a few tears away “But most of all I want you to continue loving me and teaching me, in turn, to love not just you but everyone else in our lives, our friends, family members and in the future our children”
The reception calmed down and slowly people started to leave. Hermione watched her friends go home and she hoped that they wouldn’t forget her now that she was a married woman. She was married. She laughed aloud, it had really happened. She’d spent the whole day expecting to wake up and having to get ready to do it for real, it seemed to be happening too easily and way too quickly. They would be spending thier first night as husband and wife in thier home and then in the morning they would be leaving for thier month long honeymoon. For the next month they vowed not to think about school, work, death, insanity, Luna or anything else that had been plaguing them. They would just be together, happy and healthy. Luna’s insanity could wait, her new home at the mental hospital wouldn’t weigh on her mind and Neville’s ability to kill people wouldn’t weigh on his for the next month. With a smile, Hermione jogged towards where Severus was standing in the doorway waiting for her, he told her to let the house-elves clean up and then he picked her up and carried her over the threshold and up to their bedroom. It would be a very long night.
