I have no excuse except for writter's block. But I finally got out of that. This chapter did not end like I thought it would but I am furiously working on the next chapter because I don't want you all to hate me for the way I left this chapter. Please don't hate me. Hopefully by Thursday I will have the next chapter written and posted because I know where I want the next few chapters before their Christmas break to go. Please review and previous responces are at the bottom.
Hogwarts Rebuilt
By Robert Jackson
As we all know, the Battle of Hogwarts was a mere six months ago. Looking back, no one would have guessed it would ever recover. After months of hard work, however, the school reopened for the start of term this past September. This past weekend, parents of the students were allowed to spend the day with their child/ren and be among the first to see Hogwarts rebuilt.
Following a day of wondering the corridors and surveying the grounds, newly appointed Headmistress McGonagall and Minister Shacklebolt decided to hold a ball for all sixth years and above, as well as students who graduated the previous two years. This ball was set to honor the students who fought during the battle, and remember those that are no longer with us. Even though the press was not allowed anywhere near the castle on Saturday, this reporter was given the opportunity to sit down with Hogwarts’ only eighth year students on Sunday to get the inside scoop, and let’s just say Hogwarts has definitely changed.
“We are all excited to turn over this new leaf,” says Ronald Weasley. “It’s been a long time coming.” As you can see below, Weasley is sitting on the couch with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, while Daphne Greengrass sit in front of him with her head on his knee.
“The houses are simply in place to sort students into groups that have similar strengths,” Granger replied when asked about the seating arrangement. None other than Draco Malfoy was seated in front of her. “Magical Blood is just that, and, thanks to the defeat of Voldemort, more people are beginning to see that.”
“Everyone fought in this war, no matter what side,” Potter elaborated. “Some people, like Draco, were forced to take the mark or watch their families parish before them. As you can see, not many of us returned to finish our schooling, so naturally Headmistess McGonagall housed us together. Through these last eight weeks we have all gotten to know each other a lot better, and have all become great friends.
Hermione put the paper down. She knew that starting tomorrow everyone, especially her, Draco, Harry, Ron, and Daphne, would start receiving hate mail, simply because they were all friends and because her and Draco had confirmed their relationship closer to the end of the article. She looked around the hall and noticed that almost everyone was reading the paper while they ate.
The bell rang suddenly, causing everyone to jump. “Come on, then. Onward to Herbology,” Ron said standing up.
“We had Herbology yesterday Ron. Today is Tuesday which means we have Charms.” Hermione said sighing.
“Oh, right. Why does it feel like Monday then?”
“Probably because you slept through almost every class yesterday, Ron.” Draco answered coming up behind Hermione.
“What can I say? I wear him out.” Daphne said coming up behind him. Ron’s face turned scarlet.
“Not all of us want to hear about your nights together, Daphne,” Blaise said. “Shall we get going then?”
Draco took Hermione’s hand as they left the Great Hall behind everyone else.
“Everything okay, love? You seem a little distant.” Draco asked.
Hermione sighed. “Yeah. Just thinking about all the hate mall that will be here tomorrow.”
“How do you know it will all be hate mail?”
“Because people aren’t going to accept our relationship like everyone here did. They are going to read that article and think I’m under a spell or something.”
“Love,” Draco said stopping to look at her. “Potter testified that you haven’t been put under a spell. If people can’t see how close everyone has gotten, then they can’t move on and aren’t worth our time.”
Hermione took a moment to absorb that. “You’re right, but there is still going to be hate mail, you’ll see.”
The following morning proved Hermione mostly correct. There were howlers and nasty latters, but there were also encouraging letters and words of wisdom.
“See love? They weren’t all bad.” Draco said. Today Draco sat with the Gryffendors to help keep Hermione calm.
“That’s true. The people that sent Howlers, though, were still pretty mean.”
“That’s people, though, ‘Mione,” Ginny said aas she finished skimming the last letter. “Some people don’t like that fact that the sky is blue, but there is nothing they can do except voice their opinions. It’s just going to take some time.” Ginny reached over to give Hermione’s hand a squeeze and a reassuring smile. “I have to get to class now, but I will see you guys at lunch.” She kissed Harry and followed the crowd out.
“We should probably go study since end of terms finals are only a month away.” Hermione said wiping the crumbs off her mouth.
Once they started heading out of the Great Hall, Draco entwined their fingers. “I know that we should go study, but I would like to take a walk with you around the lake first.”
Hermione sighed. “Draco, we really should be reviewing our notes.”
Draco pulled her out of the way once they were out of the Great Hall. “Love, you are the brightest witch of our age. I know that these letters have you in a fluster and a little upset. I’m upset to, believe me, but I calm down by taking a walk in the fresh air. I would enjoy your company.
“Draco…I…I…I think we really need to study.”
She saw his expression fall slightly. “I will be in the library in 30 or so minutes. I need some fresh air to process everything.” Draco puller her close and gave her a quick, but of course heated, kiss. Then turned and left the castle.

I should have kept my mouth shut. If she never knew I liked her, we wouldn’t be together right now. If we weren’t together, she wouldn’t be put through this ridicule right now. Hell, I wouldn’t be ridiculed. Well, more than I already was. I’m trying to fix my family name, not have it dragged through the mud more. Maybe I should just end things now before she starts getting death threats, too.
Draco was standing by the lake, skipping stones, and watching the squid bob in and out of the water. For the first time since his trial, he received a death threat from an anonymous person. Of course he hadn’t told Hermione. She had enough to think about with all the hate mail she got.
All of a sudden, he felt arms coming around his waist. He jumped at first, but then caught the scent of vanilla and cinnamon.
Draco and Hermione stood like that for a few more minutes. “I was about to head to the library,” he said once his shoulders felt less tense.
“Yes, well, when you didn’t show up by the time the bell rang, everyone went to class thinking you would just go straight there. But after a while, I knew you weren’t going to show up. I was about to come looking for you, but Pansy convinced me to stay.”
“I’ve been down here all morning?” Draco asked turning to face her.
“Yes. Blaise told me this is where you went during sixth year when you wanted to be alone. Especially when you received hate mail.” Draco sighed and turned back to the water. “What did your letters say?”
“It doesn’t matter.” It’s not something you should concern yourself with, anyway is what he wanted to say.
“Of course it matters, Draco. We are a team. I love you.”
Draco scoffed at that. “A team? It didn’t seem like we were a team this morning?”
“What’s that suppose to mean?”
“well, seeing as how you only just now remembered that I got threatening letters, too. Sometimes it’s as if you are the only one in this relationship.” Do I really want to do this? Can I really break up with her to keep us both safe? Draco could see the hurt in her eyes.
“Is that really how you feel? That everything is about me even though I ask you daily how your day was because I actually care?” Tears were streaming down her face by now.
“Yes. We do everything you want to do. Which, unsurprisingly enough, is study. You don’t ever want to go out. And if we aren’t in the library, or classes, or the Great Hall, we are in one of the rooms fucking.” This is the right thing to do. It’s safer for both of us.
“We are in the bedroom because you can’t keep your hands off of me.” Hermione screamed.
“Well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore.” Draco was still looking at the lake, hands deep in his pockets, and trying to keep his voice from shaking. He heard a sob escape Hermione.
“Your breaking up with me?” She whispered.
Draco bent his head. “I…I…I don’t know.” His heart and mind were raging a battle. “I need sometime to think.”
“Well, I would hate for you to spend any more time with a mudblood than you have to.”
Draco turned to face her, but she was already running back to the castle. Well, you sure did it this time. It’ll be a miracle if she ever forgives you. A tear trickled down his cheek as he watched her. He needed another person’s insight. But who would he talk to? Everyone would be in class by now. Then it clicked.
He made his way through the quiet castle corridors. Once he reached his destination, he knocked.
“Enter. Ah, Mr. Malfoy. What can I do for you?”
“If it’s not too much to ask, Headmistress, I would like to talk to my godfather in private for a few minutes.”
LadyShire: I wish they could just be happy as well, but life, and my brain, have other plans. Just remember that they didn't break up. Draco said he needed to think about it and who better to get advice from then someone close to him that was also in love with a muggleborn. I will tell you right now that they will make up in the next chapter, but keep in mind, they still need to get use to the idea of someone else being there for them instead of doing everything themselves. They have never really had someone there for them so it's going to take sometime.
Thank you for your idea for a question, btw. I plan on using it right after they make up. (Please don't be upset with me for the way this one ended. I blame my brain for thinking the story needed more drama instead of more smut and lemons.)
schoolteacher623: Thank you for the compliment! I went to school for English and writing. My only downfall is when i get to into my writing, my little bit of dislexia kicks in because i'm so excited about what I'm writing. My sister-in-law proofs it before i type it and i have a tendency to change things as i'm typing lol.
