Part 22

Disclaimer: Am making no form of money off this at all, these are not
my characters, and I am only borrowing them. The plot is mine though.
Author's Note: Sorry it's been a while I've been really busy and
haven't found time to write but hopefully this chapter will make up for
it. Oh and as for McGonagall not sensing that there is cat in Hermione
she would have to be in cat form herself. Remus can smell her because he
		is a werewolf.

Hermione bit her lip as another pain shot through her now numb
limbs. She wanted to scream out every curse that she knew but because of
Malfoy all she could do was think them. Her eyes were tearing up as her
body was on fire. She hoped that Harry and Ron would send somebody after
her; this position on the forest floor was getting annoying.

Harry looked up as a hand was placed on his shoulder. “Oh
Hagrid, what did the Headmaster say?”

“He wants ya to go up and see him. Only you though Harry.”
Hagrid said as quietly as possible.

Harry nodded and grabbed his supplies and stuffed them into his
bag. He then proceeded to the Headmasters’ office. Harry hoped that
		Dumbledore could help find Hermione.

Remus glanced at his watch and smothered a yawn. He was tired and
was feeling a bit sore in the muscles. He shrugged and chalked it up as
sleeping in a weird position. He yawned again and tried to think about
his next lesson plan but Remus just couldn’t shake the feeling as if
something was wrong. He felt…almost like he did when the full moon was
upon him but looking at his calendar the full moon was still a full
three days away so it didn’t make any sense to Remus at all. He
grimaced and cracked his fingers. He ignored the looks of his students.
He was a professor and therefore did not have to explain his actions to
		any students.

Remus smiled and thought of three students who had become his
friends as well as allies. Thinking of one brown haired witch Remus
glanced down at his locked drawer. He had no choice he would have to
give it to Hermione tonight and then make sure that she was chained up
		along with him.

Dumbledore sighed as Harry continued to tear apart the boys
dormitory looking for the Marauder’s Map. “Harry are you certain
that you still had it and that one of the professor’s didn’t take it
		from you?”

Harry bit back a smarting comment. He liked Dumbledore and even
owed him his life but sometimes being asked if you’re sure was just
too much. “I may have glasses Headmaster but I can still see and I
know that it was right here.” Harry said firmly.

“Maybe another boy took it thinking that it was just extra
		parchment?” Dumbledore said hopefully.

Harry shook his head negatively. “Ron and I were the only
two….” Harry broke off as he thought. “Hermione knows where I hid
the map as well, but why would she take it?” Harry pondered out loud.

Dumbledore suppressed a sigh. This was bloody well wonderful.
Hermione is missing and the only thing that could possibly help find her
she herself had taken. “I’ll talk to Hagrid again and see if he
cannot get a trail on her whereabouts.”

Harry nodded; he was still puzzled as to why Hermione would take
the map. She didn’t need it, she was a straight arrow, or at least she
		had been.

Hermione arched her back as pain ripped through her. Her breath
came in deep shallow breathes as her body started to change its organs,
preparing itself for the hunt. She was suddenly struck by the thought of
what would happen to Lupin. ‘Oh my gosh. He’ll change too.’
Hermione started to struggle even more as the thought of a
uncontrollable werewolf loose in the school overwhelmed her.

Remus cracked his neck and then his shoulders and stretched in
his chair. Dinner was only an hour away and he was hungry. Hungry for
something a little on the rare side. He smiled, unaware that his smile
was a bit toothier then normal.

Dumbledore sighed and settled in his chair. No amount of
searching the school had shown any clues to the whereabouts of Hermione.
He had to organize a search party to search the grounds, maybe even the
forest. Dumbledore shuddered at the thought of Hermione being alone in
the forest at night. Dumbledore looked out his window and indeed there
was only another hour until the sun set.

Severus glanced up from grading papers as his office door was
opened. He raised an eyebrow as Albus walked in, followed by Lupin,
Potter and Weasley. “And what do I owe this surprise visit to?”
Severus knew that he was being rude but he didn’t care, after all
dinner was only in an hour so what could they possibly say to him in his
office that they couldn’t say to him at the table…unless it was
about Hermione. Severus went cold at the thought of his relationship
being made public, well his failed relationship that is.

“Miss Granger is missing and hasn’t been seen since lunch.
We’ve searched the castle and have turned up nothing. I think that
maybe this calls for a search of the grounds now.” Dumbledore
explained, his gaze direct, and un-twinkling.

Severus sighed, not in exasperation as others might think, but in
relief. They didn’t know, well only Lupin knew and he hadn’t told.
“Very well, I’ll help you search, are there any other professors?”

Dumbledore shook his head negatively. “That would arose
suspicion and that we don’t need. As it is I will have to leave to
come back in enough time for dinner and then after if Miss Granger is
still not found then I will gather up some more of the professors and we
		will continue to search.”

Severus nodded his head and grabbed his robes from the back of
his chair. He carefully put them on and motioned towards the door.
“The sooner we find her the sooner I can have dinner.” Severus bit
out, trying desperately not to show how worried he really was.

The group quickly broke into groups of two’s, Hagrid with
Dumbledore, Harry with Ron and, Severus sighed him with Lupin.

“Just like the good ole days eh Snape?” Lupin said quietly.

Severus stopped and turned to look at him. “What good ole days?
You mean the ones where I was tormented and teased by you and your
fellow Gryffindors? Or do you mean me becoming a death eater to try and
find a place to belong? No? Well then I don’t have a clue as to which
days you are referring to.” Having said that much Severus stalked off
towards the dark forest, Dumbledore having asked if they would search
the edges and see if she had made her way into it.

Remus stopped suddenly as he caught Hermiones’ scent.
“Severus. She was here, the scent is maybe 2 hours old.”

Severus felt his heart constrict as he looked into the dense
brush, the trees forming a barrier between the world inside the forest
the the one outside. “Are you sure? One hundred percent sure?”
Severus felt his hope die as he watched Remus nod his head.

“She wasn’t alone either. She was with three other
individuals, students. From the tracks leading into the forest I’d say
that she wasn’t going willingly.” Remus bent down to get a closer
look, and smell. “Males, one skinny the other two on the heavy
side.” Remus said softly and from his bent position looked towards
where the trail led. “The three came back out but she didn’t, which
		means.”

“Which means that Miss Granger was the unfortunate victim of a
prank.” Severus finished for Remus. He would never admit it but he was
worried. Not only that Hermione was all alone in the forest but also
that three males had taken her there. He shuddered at the thought of
what might have happened. “Can you tell who the three are?”

Remus looked up at Severus, not surprised by the note of menace.
Remus shook his head negatively. “I’ve smelt them before but because
of all the students I see I just can’t place it right now. Were I to
smell them again I can assure you that I will know them.” Remus stood
up and brushed his hands on his pants. “Well shall we go see what
they’ve done to poor Hermione?” Remus made it a rhetorical question
and started walking into the woods, following the faint scent of
		Hermiones’ trail.

Severus suppressed the growl that just about escaped and followed
after the retreating figure of Lupin.

Remus wasn’t going to say anything but he was getting worried.
There was no reason whatsoever that Hermione should have been the victim
of a prank, let alone kidnapping. He trudged through the brush, his nose
telling him the wae was going in the right direction.

Remus cracked his fingers again, the ache had intensified and had
made its’ way into every bone in his body, even his head hurt and he
couldn’t seem to relieve the ache in any way. He glanced over his
shoulder to see Snape frowning at him. Remus shrugged. There was nothing
he could do to make Snape happy, so why try?

Severus almost walked into Lupins’ back he was so deep in
thought. “Why have we stopped?” He demanded.

Remus turned to look at Snape. “We’ve stopped because a pack
of wolves is also following her trail. Look…you can see their eyes
glowing in the brush.” Remus pointed and watched as Snape scowled.

“Shouldn’t we be going at a faster pace then if they’re
tracking her too?” Snape asked impatiently.

Remus nodded his head and turned back towards the scent trail and
started walking at a faster clip. They were almost there he could feel
it and knew it from the way the sentry wolves followed close on their
heels. Remus wasn’t all that afraid of the wolves, after all both
Snape and himself had their wands.

Hermione sighed in relief as she felt her bones start to pop,
slowly taking the shape of the creature she would become. Her nose
caught the scent of wolves nearby and she snarled. They wouldn’t harm
her. She snapped her jaw, wingwing that it couldn’t be heard but could
be seen by the wolves. Her canines lengthened and slowly inched there
way into an uncomfortable place. Hermione felt her jaw lengthen and
start to change to accommodate the new teeth length.

Remus dropped to the ground on one knee. He felt the familiar
pull, the popping of the bones as they started to shift and mold
themselves. He gasped and tried to say something, but all he could do
was breath heavily. Remus stumbled to his feet and began running away
Snape, towards where Remus knew that Hermione would be experiencing the
		same thing.

“What the bloody hell?” Severus said as he watched Lupin go
down on one knee and then after a second get back up and then take off
running. “Wait for me!” Severus shouted at Lupins’ retreating
back. Severus swore again and took off running after Lupin.

Hermione felt the ropes stretch and then explode as her limbs
formed and shaped themselves into the perfect killing machine. Her nose
became black and wet, inhaling the smells around her. Her ears
lengthened and formed into the perfect radar for hunting prey. Her eyes
a muddy brown now became the tawny gold. Hermione blinked a couple of
times as she adjusted to the changes that had occurred. Her world was
now lacking colour but that wouldn’t stop her. Hermione wagged her
tail as she thought of hunting Malfoy down like the dog he was.

Hermione turned her head and felt the heavy gold collar with her
tiger’s eye on it shift with her. Hermione snarled at that. ‘Damn,
so much for getting rid of that thing.’ Hermione thought and then
focused on the smell of the wolves now melting away, back into the
forest. Hermione growled low. She wanted to meet these cousins of hers.

12 wolves slowly crept out of the forest, a mix of greys, whites
and blacks. One, the alpha female was a nice rich red colour, her muzzle
smattered with black. Hermione wondered at how these wolves had come to
be here, but then again, this was Hogwart’s.
The wolves standing before her were larger
than the ones she had seen in the zoo. They were broader in the chest
and their teeth were longer than their upper lip and the canines showed
slightly. Their legs were longer and stronger. Perfect killing machines.
Hermione gave them a wag of her tail. She
meant them no harm, she had just been curious as to why they would want
to hunt a human. Come to think of it, maybe they weren’t hunting her,
maybe they were just curious, just as she had been about them. The sound
of branches breaking made Hermione snap her head around and tense her
		body for an attack.
Remus smothered the groan as his eyes rolled
back and he lost consciousness as the beast inside him took over. A few
minutes later a dark brown wolf, twice the size of the normal grey wolf
snarled as it continued to track the scent of another of its kind.
Snape cursed as he lost sight of Lupin.
‘Stupid man, stupid school.’ Severus thought as he continued into
the forest. The sun had set now and Severus had to use his wand to light
his way. He continued along what looked like the right way, he hoped.
Severus stopped suddenly as he heard a the snarl of a wolf. “Hermione!”
Severus shouted and ran as if the hounds of hell were after him.
Hermione slowly turned her body, her dark
fur gleaming in the shadowy dark. Her muscles rippled and tensed as she
prepared herself for what was coming. The wind was upwind to her so she
couldn’t smell, all she could do was hear, and what she did hear made
her brace herself for whatever was coming.
A large wolf bounded out from the trees and
snarled as it took in the other wolves near his kind. He growled low and
was satisfied when the wolves melted back into the forest. He approached
the female cautiously. He had never met her before and she was bigger
then he was. He sat down a few feet from her and cocked his head. She
had a different look about her. Her coat was a shade lighter then his
but she had black stripes running in hers. Her tail was twice the length
of his and very bushy. Her muzzle was long and broad, her teeth longer
then her bottom jaw. He whined, unsure. She was of his kind but not.
Hermione stared in horror as she recognized
Remus. He hadn’t been chained up, hadn’t even drank the potion and
here he was looking at her like a lovesick swain. Hermione snorted.
Sirius would not appreciate it if she made the moves on his boyfriend
while in another form. Hermione took a cautious step forward to sniff
noses with Remus. Hermione corrected herself. This werewolf in front of
her was not Remus, it could not think like him or even reason like him,
this animal was not Remus. Hermione briefly touched noses before backing
away. She had to make sure that Remus didn’t get into any trouble. The
sound of another branch breaking made Hermione look past the wolfs’
shoulder to the edge of the clearing to see who else was out there.
Snape cursed as he got his robes tangled
with some branches and he cursed again as he stumbled into a clearing.
Severus grabbed the edge of his robes and examined them to make sure
that no lasting harm had been done when he heard a deep, menacing snarl.
Severus brought his head up slowly and smothered a curse as he saw the
figure that had almost cursed him to a similar fate.
Remus Lupin had changed into a werewolf
three days earlier than planned. That was the only thought that Severus
could think of and then he thought of Hermione and her swore out loud.
His tone of voice caused another snarl to be issued and Severus knew he
		was in deep shit.
Hermione watched in amazement as Severus
stumbled very ungracefully out of the forest. Hermione watched as the
Remus-wolf turned and snarled menacingly at Severus. Hermione growled
low, low enough that only the two of them could hear. She watched as
Severus put two and two together and then cursed loudly. Remus-wolf
snarled and rushed towards where Severus was standing still. Hermione
felt her own snarl burst forth as she used her feline abilities to leap
in front of Severus just to catch the Remus-wolfs’ attack. Hermione
felt the wolf’s teeth bite down hard on her exposed shoulder and she
couldn’t contain the shrill yelp of surprise and hurt. Immediately
Hermione threw the other wolf anf and stood in front of Severus, her
head lowered, ears and tail erect, a low growl of warning rumbling
		through her chest.
Severus stared at the open mouth of gleaming
teeth and braced himself when suddenly the teeth became the side of the
wolf that must be Hermione. Severus gasped as he saw the bite meant for
him find its way home on Hermiones’ shoulder. The yelp was shrill and
held pain in it and Severus clenched his fists and searched through his
mind frantically for a spell that would help the situation. To his
surprise instead of Hermione attacking him she actually defended him and
was warning Remus away. Severus looked at Hermione again and immediately
noticed the differences between the two opponents. Hermione was the
winner; there was no doubt in Severus’ mind. At the shoulder Hermione
was 4ft where Remus was a foot shorter. She had more muscles and was
longer where Remus was more compact. Her teeth were longer from what
Severus could see and he suppressed the shiver that ran down his spine.
Severus couldn’t help but refer to them as
Hermione and Remus that was how he knew them. Severus groaned as Remus
snarled and Hermione crouched lower and snarled back.
Hermione couldn’t believe that Remus had
actually bitten her and now he was challenging her? She still loved
Snape she couldn’t deny it and he was the one, the only one that she
would ever offer the alpha male position to, not Remus. Hermione cut off
her snarl and slowly walked stiff legged towards Remus. If it was a
fight he wanted, then it was a fight he was going to get. Hermione
lowered her head and howled. She hoped that Sirius could hear it, being
only a few miles away. Sirius was the only one that she knew that could
help her contain Remus. Hermione started to slowly circle Remus, knowing
that he would continue to circle with her, thus allowing Severus a
chance to get away. Hermione ignored the pain that her injured shoulder
was giving her and focused on Remus. He was just as dangerous, more so
now that he knew that he had scored a hit.
Remus-wolf warily watched the female as she
circled him. He hadn’t expected her to interfere and had meant to bite
her. If that was how it was going to be then so be it. Remus-wolf
snarled once more before charging her.
Severus heard Hermione howl and wondered and
then froze as he watched as the two werewolves slowly started to circle.
His breath caught in his throat as Remus charged Hermione. Contact was
made and both wolves went down, Hermione on the bottom with Remus going
for her throat. Severus made a move to rush forward but was stopped when
he felt a hand on his chest. He turned surprised to see Sirius Black
there. “What the bloodll all are you doing here?” He asked, more
		surprised then angry.
Sirius never took his eyes from the two
wolves; Hermione now free was circling more carefully. “I was on my
way to visit Harry when I heard a howl. Having been around Remus for
years I know a werewolf howl from a regular wolf howl. Who’s the other
		wolf?”
“You have to swear you won’t tell.”
Severus said loudly to be heard over the snarls and growls of the two
		werewolves.
“I swear.” Sirius said.
“Hermione Granger.”
Sirius smothered a gasp and swiveled his
head to look at Snape. “Seriously? How? Why?” Was all Sirius could
		sputter out.
Hermione had had enough. With a last growl
and a tricky bit of footwork she had Remus on his back, her paw at his
throat exerting enough pressure to make it hard to breath. When he
continued to snarl and struggle Hermione lengthened her nails into a
cat’s claws. The sharp tips just sunk into the thick fur and lightly
pinched the skin. Abruptly the snarls stopped. Hermione leaned over and
looked directly into Remus’ eyes. She snarled and Remus whimpered.
Hermione let go and let Remus roll over onto his belly. She watched as
Remus acknowledged her as Alpha and wagged his tail and whined and
inched towards her on his belly. She growled and Remus rolled over onto
his back and exposed his throat to her. Hermione went over and lightly
bit him on the throat and then nudged him.
“Holy shit.” That was all Severus could
say as he watched Hermione’s nails lengthen and grow into the kind of
claws that one saw on a tiger. Severus studied Hermiones’ coat pattern
and discovered that there was indeed some similarities. Her dark brown
fur had black stripes running through it, the same kind of pattern that
tiger’s had. He swallowed hard as Hermione let Remus get up. They
might be next for all he knew.
Hermione turned her head and looked at
Severus and saw that Sirius was standing right beside him. She gave a
gusty sigh and communicated her wishes to Remus who whined and tried
every which way to go against her commands and become the wild and
unruly werewolf that everyone was so frightened of. But a werewolf still
is a wolf and so pack members must follow what an Alpha wants. Remus
loped off headiowarowards the shrieking shack and away from Severus,
Sirius and herself. Hermione in the meantime was going to get Crabbe,
Goyle and Malfoy for what they did to her. Hermione snarled silently and
took one last look before running into the bush, planning on heading in
a roundabout route to get back to the castle and then get inside.
“Did I just see what I thought I saw? Did
Remus just get his butt whooped and then suck up to Hermione and then
both of them leave? We’ve got to find them! Severus you go after
Hermione while I go after Remus.” Sirius said and transformed into a
big black dog before heading off the way that Remus had.
Severus took a deep breath before chasing
		off after Hermione.
