So this chapter is a summation of the next 4 weeks from Sirius POV. Hopefully it’s not too rushed.

The dreams started out calm and overall nice. That slowly changed over the next month.
First Week
Sirius started having dreams of a forest. It was bright, the sun filtering down through branches and leaves. A well-worn path would stretch out before him. Birds of various colors would fly by singing their songs to each other. The forest was well and truly alive. Usually he was alone. Sometimes, Padfoot would join him.
With nothing else to do, he would walk the path observing the forest around him. It was not one he recognized. Padfoot would run around him, stirring up leaves, and chasing various squirrels up trees. When he wasn’t doing that, the dog stayed close at his side in a basic heel position. It was a peaceful place. Sirius often found himself loathe to leave it when he woke.
Remus kept a close eye on the bite to insure it did not become infected. Severus provided a balm to help it heal. They kept it bandaged and covered so Molly would not find out and freak like she could be prone to do. Explaining to others that the bite was well received would also be a waste of time. The only other person they informed was Dumbledore for obvious reasons.
Harry had taken to sleeping in Severus’ rooms during the day. The snarky Potions Master acted as though nothing was wrong and carried on as normal. It bothered Sirius to no end that his godson was basically moving in with the bat but one look from Remus had him wisely biting his tongue. It was obvious Harry was going to be keeping the snake around for a long time so Sirius had no choice but tolerate the Slytherin being part of their group.
Dante remained sequestered in his room but Edge turned out to be quite the social butterfly. Dumbledore had just introduced Edge to the rest of the Order in a recent Order meeting. Most of the Order seemed nervous, except the few who already knew of the vampire, but Edge had quickly settled that. Sirius was unsure if Edge had used some kind of vampire trick or if the man was just that charismatic when he wanted to be. Tonks especially seemed very taken with the vampire.
“I have never been interested in the fairer sex.” Edge had assured him when he had brought it up jokingly with the vampire. Sirius didn’t have the heart to inform his cousin.
They celebrated the New Year with drinks and laughter. It did not seem a scene one would expect during a war but it would be the last celebration for some time.
Second Week
Sirius couldn’t be sure but the forest was starting to look a little darker in his dreams. Every noise started to seem muted. He still continued along the path noticing that it was getting narrower and less well worn. The trees seemed to be getting thicker as he traveled.
Padfoot still accompanied him as his ever faithful companion. The dog kept closer to him and chased the squirrels less. He tended to walk a bit in front of Sirius now as though to guard him from what was coming. Sirius would often wake feeling unsettled and would be nervous throughout the day.
Remus noticed the change first. Wolf was slowly starting to encroach on his mates natural scent. He took extra minutes in the morning when his mate awoke to cuddle the other man and to familiarize himself with the new smell. He knew the transition would not be an easy one but would comfort Sirius as much as he could. It was only going to get worse over the next two weeks.
The bite wound was basically healed leaving the skin pink where it would later scar. All werewolf bites scarred no matter if the bite was neatly placed and not deep. At least no one would think this scar as anything other than an unfortunate dog bite.
Sirius’ sense of smell had also increased and created a huge rift in the already timid relationship Sirius and Severus had slowly established. Sirius had caught the scent of Harry on the Slytherin when the man had come into the kitchen for his morning coffee, which would have been normal seeing as Harry spent a lot of time with the man, but it was the scent of his godson and the subtle hint of sex combined that sent Sirius into a rage. He hadn’t even thought to use his wand. Both men had been locked in a brawl of fists, kicks, and insults when Remus had entered the kitchen. Remus had to resort to using magic to pin the two stubborn men against opposite walls to break them apart.
Remus’ eyes flashed dangerously. “What in the hell is wrong with the two of you?” The growl in his voice was deep.
Both men were breathing heavily, cuts in various places, and bruises already starting to form. Neither had held anything back.
“The bastard is fucking my godson!” Sirius growled not taking his eyes off of Severus as he glared at the other man.
Severus spit blood out of his mouth and returned the glare with a sadistic smirk. “Not yet I’m not. Not that it is any of your business.”
“What the fuck…” Sirius started fighting his bonds with urgency. “You sick…”
“ENOUGH!” Both men flinched at the volume of Remus’ command. The werewolf stood tall posturing for all like the alpha wolf he was.
“But Moony…”
“Honestly, Sirius, I’m surprised you didn’t already know.”
Sirius turned to look at Remus shocked. “You knew? Why didn’t you say, fucking hell, why didn’t you do anything?”
“It wasn’t his place.” Severus sneered. “Potter is legal.”
“I don’t care!”
“Severus, you are not helping.”
Severus glared at them both. “Whether you like it or not, Black, Potter is a legal adult. He does not need your permission.”
“That does not mean that I am going to let you take advantage of him, you slimy snake.” Sirius struggled glaring at Severus as though he would kill the man with just his eyes. “I knew you were feeding him too willingly. Can’t get a leg over any other way can you?”
Severus’ eyes filled with a burning hate. “I told you, Black, I am not fucking Harry.” He paused for a moment before his face went calm. He glared back at Sirius with determination. When he spoke his voice was calm and sure. “But when I do, I’ll cherish every minute of it.”
Remus quickly silenced Sirius before he starting yelling obscenities. He watched Severus a moment moving closer to the man to take in his scent. Severus stared back at him unmoving. A soft smile tugged at the werewolfs lips before he released the bind on Severus. Severus quickly composed himself and got everything back in its proper place. He jerked when Remus hit him with mild healing spells, sending a glare at the wolf for his efforts. With one last glare toward Sirius, he left the room in a furl of robes. They heard the floo from the sitting room announcing his departure.
Remus sighed running a hand through his hair before turning to his mate. Sirius had gone still, and was no longer trying to yell, but glared at Remus in betrayal. Remus sighed again.
“I need you to listen very closely to what I am going to say, Sirius.” He paused to ensure he had his mates attention. “Your sense of smell is just coming in. You only caught the surface of what is going on between Harry and Severus. I need you to promise me to withhold your judgement from now on until you can scent fully.”
Sirius continued to glare. Remus waited a few moments before releasing his silencing spell. “What are you talking about?”
“That man loves Harry but is not ready to admit to it.” Sirius scoffed in disbelief. “I know it is hard for you to believe, Sirius, but he does. Give your nose time to settle fully into its new ability and scent for yourself. Until then, leave them alone, please, and reserve your judgment.”
Sirius just simply nodded and Remus let him go accepting that as all he was going to get. He grabbed Sirius and pulled him close. Sirius struggled against him but froze when Remus gently settled his teeth over the back of his neck. Remus applied a gentle pressure that had Sirius relaxing within minutes. He felt his eyes begin to flutter closed as his emotions calmed into something manageable. His alpha would take care of everything. After a few minutes, Remus removed his gentle hold, allowing Sirius to reorient himself. He saw a small bit of betrayal make its way back into his mates eyes and let him step away.
Sirius moved toward the door but stopped at the threshold. “Has he…”
“No, Sirius.” Remus said calmly knowing what Sirius was going to ask. “He did mean it though, when he said he’d cherish every minute.”
Sirius closed his eyes tightly before leaving. Remus knew he was most likely going to hide away for the rest of the day.
Third Week
Trees rose above him, their branches and leaves blocking out light from the sun. The forest was eerily quiet. There were no birds singing, no wind rustling the leaves of the trees, no sounds of dead leaves being disturbed by small rodents on the forest floor. It sent cold chills running along the skin on his arms. With a shiver, he wrapped his arms around himself and walked slowly down the small worn path he could just make out.
Sirius looked cautiously around himself. He could feel his heart pounding and his hands were sweaty with nervousness. There was nothing but trees and small saplings as far as the eye could see. He tried to call out but only received an echo in return. The path below his feet was his only guide. Sirius walked and walked what felt like never ending miles. Where was his companion?
Rustling made its way to his ears. Sirius paused to determine where it was coming from. The sound echoed off the many trees surrounding him. He quickly spun in a circle but was unable to determine where the rustling, no, scuffling was coming from. The sound was getting louder and closer. He could make out what sounded like two heavy bodies running, and then a brief scuffle, then running again. Something was predator and prey here.
A squeal, yelp, growls, and snarls sounded behind him. Sirius flipped around shaking with eyes wide. More yelping, desperate and painful, filled him with a sudden bought of fear. He knew those yelps. Padfoot.
Sirius was constantly irritable. It didn’t take much to set him off. Smells irritated him. Sounds irritated him. Even taste irritated him. If anyone spoke too loud or even looked at him wrong he was snapping at them. He would be freezing one minute and the next he would be feverish. Remus assured him this was all normal and things would settle after his first moon. It never made him feel any better. The only thing that kept him from grumbling at the werewolf too much was that he asked for this.
Remus was a constant at his side now. He did his best to curb the outbursts. If a scent bothered Sirius, he’d let him smell his wrist or hold his nose close to his neck where his own scent was strongest to help block it out. Sounds were a little tougher but everyone soon got on board with being super quiet when Sirius was around. It annoyed Sirius at first but he came to appreciate it. Taste was something that Sirius would need to work out for himself. It didn’t help that most of his favorites were now off the menu. It things got super out of hand, Remus would assert himself as alpha over Sirius. He hated doing it but sometimes a quick bite and hold to the neck was all it took, and was better than the alternative.
Remus did his best to keep his feeling of guilt from his mate. It would do no good if the other man took notice. Most likely, it would only serve to make things worse. He hated that Sirius had to go through this. The only saving grace was that he was proof the bond would work. They just had to get through the first moon and out to the other side.
Term, unfortunately, started back. Sirius remained in Remus’ rooms while the other did his duties as DADA professor. He claimed he was just too tired but in truth he couldn’t transform. It bothered him greatly and he felt sick with worry. Padfoot had been a part of him for so long he was unsure if he could do without him. Sirius was sure his dreams meant something at this point and feared the answer. Was he going to lose Padfoot? Had he already lost him?
Forth Week
Sirius darted forward, sprinting down the path toward where the yelps were coming from. It seemed to take him hours to break through the trees into a small encircled area. Large trees surrounded the small opening. No grass grew here; the ground was covered with dirt and leaves. Despite there being no trees the sun barely reached the ground floor. In the middle, two furred bodies were entangled in a viscous fight. Both were canine. Padfoot was the smaller of the two and currently pinned beneath a bulkier, larger canine. He was fighting bravely but losing.
Sirius rushed forward, grabbing a large branch from the ground, and swinging it at the large form. He made contact with a sickening crack and sent it rolling into the tree line. Quickly, he knelt by Padfoot wincing with a hiss at the shape of his animagus form. Padfoot was breathing shallowly. Sirius tried to pet the dog but jerked his hand back when Padfoot whined in pain. Blood coated his hand. He could just make out the wet shine covering the black fur.
Padfoot growled and tried to stand, but too weak to do so, fell back down. Sirius twisted to look behind him. The large canine had stepped back into the opening. Its fur was black but Sirius could just make out some highlights of blue in the low sunlight. Blue eyes stared him down intensely. It held its head low below its shoulders as it stared them down. Two ears were laid back against its skull. Its teeth were not bared but Sirius could hear the deep, rumbling growl. The wolf was much broader than Padfoot and its shoulders were level with Sirius’ head, even with him crouched down beside the smaller dog.
“What are you doing?” Sirius snapped at the wolf. “He’s done nothing.”
The wolf raised its head moving its ears forward. “He’s in my territory. He must go.”
The voice was deep and strong. It resonated through Sirius’ body making him shiver. He clenched his fists and stood, guarding Padfoot behind him.
“He goes nowhere.” He said firmly.
“You invited me in. This is now my territory.”
Sirius swallowed against the fear he felt rising. “You can share.”
The wolf moved its head from side to side once. “That is not how it works, human.” A growl of frustration surfaced from the wolfs chest.
Sirius had only a second warning before the wolf launched at him. He grabbed the fur at its cheeks letting himself fall back. Using his feet against the wolfs stomach, and the wolfs own forward momentum, he kicked it over his head and back into the trees. Quickly, he gathered up the large, yet smaller, dog in his arms. Padfoot whined and yelped but Sirius softly hushed him as he started running. He knew there was no way he could outrun the wolf but he had to try. Fear gripped his heart as he heard the wolf following close on his heels.
The week just before the moon was dreadful. His entire body ached. He often felt like he couldn’t move. Sleep was a thing of the past. Sirius often woke in a panic or was woken by Remus when he struggled in his sleep too much. He never told Remus about his dreams. He did not want to face what they were telling him.
Despite their altercation, Severus provided the Wolfsbane right on schedule, or rather, he sent Harry to deliver it. He could smell Severus on the young vampire but could also smell that Harry was genuinely happy being with the snake. It unnerved him that anyone would be happy with the man but he held his judgment just as he had promised Remus. Harry also smelt rather sweet. It drew him in and soothed his nerves. Edge would often accompany his Childe but would stay longer throughout the night as the moon drew closer.
The scents he picked off of Edge were strange to him. The vampire had a sweet undertone, similar to Harry, that Sirius assumed was the scent of their vampire nature. He could not pick up the scent of death no matter how hard he tried. He found it strange considering vampires were called the undead for a reason. There was the smell of the forest and lake water giving way to the fact Edge spent a lot of time around the Great Lake and the Forbidden Forest. He could pick up traces of the vampires most recent feed on his breath as Edge had started to hunt for his food again. Edge also had a fading staleness. According to Remus it was fading loneliness he was picking up on. Remus seemed impressed he had picked up on it.
Even stranger was the slow and soft thump, thump of the vampires heart. It was so slow it naturally made him question how Edge could stand let alone walk. It would slow even further during the day when the vampire slept and his breathing would be almost nonexistent.
The day of the full moon had arrived. Instead of going to the shack, Harry had suggested using the Room of Requirement. After some discussion, Remus agreed having a room that could be whatever they needed would be best. Not to mention they could all stay warm.
He ran through the trees in the dark. The moon called out to him but he did his best to ignore her. He called and called and called. He searched the woods around him. He found nothing. No fur, no tracks, no sounds. He felt empty. Padfoot was gone.
