-This text means they are talking through the mental link-
This chapter took me longer due to having writer's block on the first part. After that it flowed nicely. As always thanks to my lovely rose for helping me figure it out. On with the story!
Hermione slowly opened her eyes and instantly closed them as she felt a sharp pain go through her head. She waited a few moments for it to cease before opening them again to find the room was pitch black. They'd been resting for four days now and had been regaining a little more of their strength every day. Snape and Khira would periodically check on them, but Alex had not been seen very much. She'd only visited when at night. Draco had told her that he assumed it was because of her blaming herself for putting them through this.
Looking around she shivered as she felt how cold it was in the room. Slowly moving to stand up as to not wake the blond next to her, she walked over to the window. Outside she could see it was dark, and she guessed it was around midnight. The moonlight danced across the surface of the water of the lake in the distance and she sighed, watching as snow started to fall. Turning around she smiled looking over at Draco as he slept, before noticing the door open slowly and Alex enter.
“I didn't realize the spell on the fire had ended” she whispered, waving her hand at the fire and then casting a temporary warming charm on the room as she approached Hermione, “Are you feeling alright?”
“I just had a slight headache when I woke up.”
“It's part of the healing process. You'll probably have them for a few more days” she said and Hermione nodded.
“How are you holding up though? I know it hasn't been easy for you to watch us go through this” Hermione moved back over to the bed and took a seat, the older witch sitting at the end of the bed. Alex also waved her hand, casting a privacy charm around the blond on the bed to allow him to continue to sleep.
“I'll be fine Hermione. Having to stand there and watch both of you go through that hit me harder than I thought it would. He's like a son to me and since you're his mate it makes you like a daughter as well. Combine that and it hurt me a lot more than expected” Hermione looked over at her with a small smile.
“We're fine though Alex. You have nothing to worry about. We're both actually hoping we finally get to move around today. Staying in bed is driving us insane” Alex chuckled at her.
“I'll let Khira know but I cannot guarantee she'll let you get out of bed. She's acting like an overprotective mother hen right now” As Alex said this Hermione sighed and nodded.
“So why is Snape still here?” she asked and Alex turned to her confused at her question, “I know he was here to help with the potions and ritual, but I thought he would have left after we woke up.”
“Severus and I have a very unique friendship and I offered for him to stay here for the rest of the holidays.”
“I never knew you and him were friends” Alex smirked as Hermione said this.
“If you remember I said that I was friends with Lily and James” Hermione nodded, “I'd also become friends with Severus but it wasn't easy. After James and Sirius started tormenting him I would go looking for him to try and talk to him. At first he wanted nothing to do with me, but eventually I broke through to him and we talked about it. Our friendship slowly grew from there. We've been friends ever since but it's been rough to say the least.”
“I'm sure with Khira and him having their arguments it hasn't made things easier” Hermione stated and she chuckled.
“They've been going back and forth like that for as long as I can remember. The two of them came to some form of an agreement the day of your ritual and it's been better, but they're still both on edge. It was a major relief to say the least, since I was stuck in the middle of them.”
“I'm sure it's not all that bad” Hermione stated, placing her hand on Alex's hand, before gasping and pulling it back. The slight touch caused her to go into a daze as multiple images flashed in front of her eyes surrounding the older witch, her mate, and Snape. As she felt herself coming back to reality she looked over at Alex with a look of shock “Alex?”
“You can't tell Draco. Not yet anyway” the older witch pleaded with her.
“He will know through our link” she said quietly and noticed the look on the older witch's face, “What's going on?”
“We haven't discussed it with Severus” Alex said and rested her face in her hands before looking at her, “We were talking about us having a child after the war and Khira had joked about us having a threesome with someone we trusted. He overheard us and I caught him fantasizing about it. I told Khira about it a few days ago.”
The door creaked open and they watched as Khira stepped inside before she quickly walked over, sitting next to Alex. The two of them shared a look and Hermione could see the the two were having a quick conversation. She waited as the two of them silently talked between each other before Alex sighed and nodded, the two of them turning to her.
“We know it's a lot to take in Hermione. Alex and I agreed we do want to have a child, but we don't want to adopt. We want it to be our child as well, so the only reasonable method is what you saw. We've been discussing it over the past few days since Alex told me. Also, Alex would carry the baby since I'm infertile and I can't” Hermione gasped upon hearing her say this and she sighed, “I found out just before the school year started. It was the reason I was blocking Alex those few weeks.”
“Yes but I thought you both were gay! Also, why Snape? Surely you can find someone who is better looking” they chuckled at this and Hermione raised her eyebrows, “What?”
“First, we're bi not gay. Second, Severus wears a glamour Hermione” Alex stated with a smirk, “He's a lot better looking than people think.”
“What?” she asked.
“Khira go and get him please.” Alex stated and the blond nodded, leaving the room and returning with the dour man a few moments later, “Sev take your glamour off.”
“I will not!” he growled and Alex sighed, walking over to him.
“Take if off Sev or I'll do it for you” she said quietly, placing her hand on his arm and he sneered at her, “You know I can so don't try me Severus.”
“Severus, she is Draco's mate. She'll eventually see you without that stupid glamour anyway” Khira said and he sighed.
“You two are worse than Albus” he said, glaring at Alex as she smiled at him and smacked his arm.
“You love us though” Khira smirked and he snarled at her before waving his hand and the glamour faded away.
Hermione gasped as she saw his features change. His eyes stayed the same black but there were flecks of indigo in them. His hair changed from it's greasy appearance to what looked like soft locks that fell just past his shoulders. His face also lost quite a few of the age lines in it and in their place was softer skin that made him look younger. The one striking feature she did notice though was a scar that ran up the left side of his face across his jaw. It was very thick and looked to have been made by a claw or spell of some sort.
“I can see why you choose to use the glamour, sir” she said and he nodded, waving his hand again and putting the glamour back in place.
“The only ones who know of this glamour are those in this room Ms. Granger. You must tell no one else it exists” he said and she nodded, looking over at Draco who was still asleep, “He has seen me without it, so do not fear him seeing it through your link.”
“If you don't mind me asking Sir, what happened?”
“What caused the scar you mean?” he asked and she nodded before he glowered at Alex, “Someone was upset and defending her mate when we were younger and sent a slashing hex my way.”
“You put her in danger and I retaliated! You deserved it you bastard” Alex hissed at him and he snarled back.
“That's enough you two” Khira hissed at them both before turning to Hermione, “I'm sure now you understand a little more. We'll leave you alone to rest a bit more and think about it. In the morning I'll come in and check up on you two and we'll see about getting you both out of bed.”
“Thank you Khira” Hermione replied and watched as the two professors glared at each other before Alex canceled the privacy spell and they all left the room.
After they left Hermione sighed and laid back down. She felt the blond shift next to her and wrap his arm around her. She smiled as she curled into his body and sighed. She was shaken from her thoughts by the blonds voice sounding in her mind.
-You finally got to see why he wears the glamour?-
-It was a shock that is for sure. Did you see the vision I saw?-
She felt him wrap his arm tighter around her and nod against her shoulder. She turned slowly and was met by his grey eyes. He lightly kissed her and pulled back, moving a strand of her hair behind her ear.
“I think it's a good thing for all three of them” he replied out loud and she smiled.
“You're not worried about it at all?” he shook his head.
“Of course I worry! He has been clinging to the memory of Lily and refusing to move on and live though. If it helps him move on and Alex and Khira get the family they want, then I support it.”
“I never thought of it that way” she replied and he smiled, pulling her in for another kiss before laying on his back. Hermione sighed and rested her head against his chest, listening to his heart beat. It slowly relaxed her and within minutes the two were sleeping again.
True to her word, Khira came back in the morning after they woke up and checked them over. She noted their energy was restored and their cores were intact. The only problem they had now was the slight pain and controlling their mental link. She gave them some time to get showered and dressed and when they walked slowly out into the hall she was leaning against the wall waiting for them. They all walked down the hall and slowly made their way down the stairs before walking into the dining room where Alex and Snape were sitting there talking. As they sat down the two turned to them and greeted them.
“Where's Remus and Tonks?” Hermione asked looking around.
“The Headmaster summoned them to headquarters yesterday and they haven't returned yet. They did say they will be back before tonight though” Snape replied and they nodded.
“Harry and the others will be arriving later tonight as well since tomorrow is Christmas Eve” Khira stated, handing them both a pain potion and Hermione groaned before taking her potion, relishing in the relief it brought.
“I completely forgot how close to the holiday it was” she said quietly, “I didn't get Harry his gift yet.”
“Khira has some last minute shopping to do in the village so we'll be going there soon. You can go along and see if you find anything to get him then” Alex stated and she smiled.
“I'll do that.”
“What about you Severus? You coming along too?” Draco asked.
“While I am sure these two would find humor in me going along, I would much rather not burden everyone with my sour mood” he replied.
“We planned to leave after we finished eating” Alex said, rolling her eyes at Severus, “After we get done we can get ready and then head out. Draco I would advise you both glamour the runes on your hands. We'll apparate into an alleyway off the side of the village.”
“How much longer do you think it will be until they fade?” he asked.
“Another week at least, maybe more” she replied, “Your healing isn't as fast as it was for Khira and me, so I'm expecting it to take a while for them to fade entirely.”
Draco nodded and they all went back to eating. Once they were finished they went upstairs and got dressed in warmer clothes before walking downstairs to meet the two in the foyer. Alex cast glamour charms on both of them to hide their runes and also some on their faces to make them unrecognizable, nodding after she was done. As they each took a hold of one of the older witches' arms they felt a the familiar pull of apparation. Upon landing, Hermione swayed a little but was steadied by Khira. She nodded her thanks and followed the two witches down the alleyway before coming out onto the main streets. Alex turned to them and watched as they both took in the buildings around them.
The streets were filled with witches and wizards bartering and talking to each other. As Hermione surveyed the buildings she smiled, seeing various colors of red, green, and blue banners hanging everywhere. The buildings resembled the ones of Diagon Alley, but were made more of wood than of brick. Also various shops included many tall, narrow windows.
“Welcome to the Yolkino magical district” Alex said and she nodded to her, “We need to stop by the bank first, but if you both would like to check out a few of the shops go ahead. We'll catch up with you when we are done.”
“How will you know where we are?” Draco asked.
“Take this” she replied, handing Draco a coin and Hermione smirked.
“Protean charm?” she asked quietly and Alex nodded.
“When we're done I'll signal you both and you can let us know where you are.”
Hermione nodded and watched as the two walked off. Draco wrapped his arm around her and they walked down the street checking out a few shops. Many of the shops were similar to the ones in Diagon Alley, but there were a lot of unique ones as well. When they came across a bakery that also sold candies Hermione nudged him and pointed to the store. He nodded and followed her inside. Walking in they both were hit by the various smells of chocolates and other sweets. They both looked around the shop and smiled. While there was the usual Honeydukes candies one one side of the store, there were also specific candies from the local area. At the back of the shop there was also a large window showing a couple wizards making a few confections from scratch.
Suddenly Draco felt the coin Alex gave him heat up and nudged Hermione to let her know before he signaled Alex where they were. She nodded and they made their way towards the door and waited for Alex and Khira there, them both showing up a few moments later.
“Did you find anything you'd like to buy?” Alex asked as they entered the building and Hermione nodded, pointing towards the back shelves.
“I thought I'd get Harry a box of chocolate frogs as well as some of the unique ones they make here. As well as getting Ron a few so he doesn't get jealous” she said and Alex nodded, leading them to the back.
“Alex I'm going to get my stuff. Can you get me the pastries I like?” Khira asked and she nodded.
Once at the back she started talking in Russian to one of the wizards and asked Hermione which ones she wanted to get. After choosing the various treats they all wanted, Alex paid for them. Handing Hermione her purchase, Alex thanked the wizard and they all left the store. Khira returned as they left the shop and Alex led them over to a small cafe before ordering them all spiced tea. They sat at a table in the back and talked as they drank their tea. Once they were done they continued going through the shops and made a few more purchases, Hermione picking up a couple books on magic around the world and various creatures at the bookstore. After an few hours they noticed it started snowing and decided to head back to the apparation point and the estate.
“Wow!” she smiled, seeing the decorations the elves had put up around the foyer and dining room and Draco grinned behind her.
The rooms had both had the lighting lowered slightly and there was a huge tree in the middle of the far wall. Around the tree were various presents and packages in all sorts of wrapping papers. There were icicle lights that glowed white against the blue and gold ornaments adorning the tree. As she looked around the room she smiled seeing there were various wreaths and bells placed along the walls and more that shined with silvers and red bows on them.
“Gippy and all the elves love to surprise me every year with the decorations” Alex stated as she summoned the elf, kneeling next to her when she popped in, “Gippy, you and the rest of the elves have outdone yourselves this year. I'm proud of all of you.”
“Thank you Mistress. Master Malfoy's elves helped as well” the old elf smiled at her.
“I know it is not customary, but you may all have a glass of the mead from the cellar tonight as my gift to you all” Alex smiled when the elf jumped happily and thanked her, before they heard the fireplace roar to life and Remus and Tonks come through.
“Welcome back Remus, Tonks” Alex said and they nodded to her.
“Hello everyone” Remus said, cleaning them both off, “Good to see you two are up and out of bed Hermione and Draco. Alex, we spoke with Molly before we left and she said they will be here around dinner time. They just needed to finish getting ready.”
“Perfect!” she turned to Hermione and whispered, “I suggest hiding the stuff you purchased until tomorrow at least. When you're done can you and Draco meet us in the training room?”
“Alright, we'll meet you there” Hermione said, pulling Draco along with her.
About ten minutes later they were all in the training room and Alex warded and silenced the door. Hermione noticed Snape was in the far end of the room next to a combat dummy and she looked at Alex confused. Alex smirked and told her and Draco to sit on the bench in the far side of the room and motioned for Snape to come over. Once he was standing next to Hermione, she turned to Khira who nodded and smirked.
“I've been holding off on showing you guys the true power of the elemental spells until now because we needed to wait until you finished your ritual. As you know I have mentioned that you can combine the magic from both elements into new spells. Khira and I will demonstrate that now. Severus if you would cast the shield charm please” she said and they turned towards the combat dummy.
They both watched as Alex took two buckets from the corner of the room and levitated them into the center of the floor, one containing sand, the other water. Khira waved her wand and the water started bubbling and floating out of the bucket. When Alex waved hers as well they watched as the sand combined with the water and started to form a paste. Suddenly the water started to freeze and they noticed the pieces of sand become spikes before Alex flicked her wand. The spikes shot at the dummy, impaling it and leaving giant puncture marks inside it. They both gulped as they watched this happen, before the spikes melted and the elements started separating, moving back into their buckets. As the two older witches turned to them they sat there staring at the dummy in shock.
“Are you saying Ron and I could do something like that?” Hermione finally spoke and Alex nodded, “That's insane.”
“I now see why you do not want Albus knowing of any of this. He'd manipulate their training” Severus replied and she sighed and nodded.
“Hermione not only could Ron do that with you, but imagine what happens if Harry was to combine his spells with yours, or Draco combines his with Harry's. Hell, if all four of you combined a spell together! You could render an entire army incapacitated by a few simple spells” she paused and let the words sink in a few moments, “The only reason I show you this now is to prepare you in the future for what could be. It took us years to master the techniques, but the four of you are much stronger than Khira and I, especially the two of you.”
“Your ritual took twice as long as ours did. The transfer lasted over an hour long” Khira stated quietly, “You both have much more magic in your cores than we did. The entire time you were healing I was monitoring you both and your levels are the highest I've seen. If you both were half vampire, I would be worried more. The only reason I'm not is because you both balance each other out.”
“Earth and air elements don't really balance each other” Draco stated and Alex snickered, “What?”
“Earth and air are polar opposites Draco. Same as fire and water are opposites” She summoned a chair and sat in front of them, Khira resting her hand on her shoulder behind her, “You both balance each other and Harry and Ron balance each other. Together all four of you are balanced, but if one of you shifts slightly the wrong way, that imbalance can cause major problems. We all know who is most likely to cause that imbalance.”
“Ron” Draco and Hermione said at the same time as they looked at each other.
“Exactly” Khira stated and they turned back to them, “While Weasley will be a healer, he will also be a fighter. His temper is volatile though and needs to be controlled. When we teach him the fighting spells you must not be around him often Draco. It's not only to ensure your safety, but to ensure ours as well.”
“Is there something wrong with Ron's core or is it just his anger?” Hermione asked.
“I've not been able to read him entirely since the summer. His anger in the summer holidays was making it very hard to get a good read on him” Alex sighed, “I was hoping to do so while everyone is here, and also snoop a bit to see if anyone is hiding something concerning Harry and that Horcrux.”
“How much longer until they arrive?” Draco asked and she looked at her watch.
“An hour or so I would guess. The time difference between Britain and here is only four hours” she replied, standing up and moving the chair back to a corner, “I'm going to head to the foyer to greet them so the boys don't go wandering off with that blasted cloak.”
“Remind me to steal that from Harry before he leaves” Khira said with a smirk as they walked out of the room.
“You're turning into a Slytherin love.”
“No, I've just been corrupted by one in many ways” she winked at Alex and they walked off, the two teens shaking their heads at them.
“Hermione!” she braced herself as the boys each pulled her into a hug when they arrived a couple hours later.
“Now boys give her some room to breathe! You just got here!” Molly berated them as she approached Alex, “Thank you for letting us come here Alex. It will be such a relaxation not having to cook this year. I love these decorations by the way”
“All credit goes to the house elves for the decorations and it's my pleasure Molly” Alex replied, smiling “I'm sure the boys were hounding you about seeing Hermione anyway.”
“Oh yes and Ginny too! How are they doing by the way? They mentioned Hermione and Draco were both sick.”
“They both are perfectly fine. They just had a slight flu and had been out of it a bit lately” Alex explained and she nodded.
“Oh good!” the Weasley matriarch said, before looking over at the boys, “Best go break them away so they don't smother her.”
“Let it be noted that we are not having so many kids. I would hate to have to deal with seven children that are of a mix of us” Khira whispered to her when Molly was out of earshot, causing her wife to chuckle.
“I'm fine with just one or two” Alex stated, wrapping her arm around Khira's waist, and watching all the people gathered in the foyer.
Alex laughed as she watched everyone talking. Molly and Arthur had brought Ron, Ginny, Fred and George along as well as Harry. Molly mentioned that Percy, Bill, and Charlie were unable to make it due to previous plans. Pansy had written to Ron earlier that morning and let him know she would be coming by a little later.
As she watched everyone she covertly searched the adults minds. Molly was kept in the dark, the same as Arthur, both more like sheep than pawns. They were blindly loyal to the headmaster so she'd have to be cautious with her words around them. Remus had a good heart but still made his own choices and had his own mind on things. His wife was very similar to him, but she had a wild streak. Moving onto the teens, Alex immediately zoned in on Ron and started reading his aura. That was when she noticed it, a small bit of dark magic was influencing him. It reminded her of the horcrux inside Harry. She looked at Khira who nodded, showing she'd seen it as well.
-What could it be Alex?-
-It looks like he has an item on him that is giving off dark magic.-
-Where could he have gotten it from?-
-I don't know but I intend to find out love. Stay here and keep Molly and Arthur entertained.-
Alex walked over to the teens and smiled before stepping up close to them and whispering, “Ron, what did you bring with you from the headquarters that's in your right pocket and is oozing dark magic?”
“Just this locket we'd found in the drawing room upstairs. I wanted to show it to Malfoy and ask if he knew what it was. We found it in that cupboard Kreacher was using downstairs and figured it might be important” he said, holding up the necklace for them all to see.
“Keep that away from me!” she said upon seeing the necklace and backed away a step, “Draco take that and put it in my office right now. Do not touch it with your bare hands!”
“What is it Alex?” Hermione asked, as the blond left the room to put it up.
“We'll discuss it once Molly and Arthur are asleep. Meet me in the training room later tonight” she hissed and motioned for them to stay quiet before moving back over to her wife.
At around midnight they were all sitting inside the training room waiting for Alex and Khira to join them. Pansy had arrived just as they started eating dinner and was currently sitting on Ron's lap, leaning against his chest. Ginny was doing similar with Harry and Hermione was curled up next to Draco against the wall in the corner. They all turned when the door opened and stood upon seeing Alex, Khira, and Severus all looking extremely upset.
“What is he doing here?” Ron growled, glaring at Severus.
“That's enough Ronald! We don't have time for your immature shit!” Alex stated, casting privacy spells as Khira threw a velvet bag on the ground they assumed contained the locket, “It's a horcrux.”
“It can't be!” Hermione gasped, looking at the bag warily.
“It is, but right now something needs to be done first” She responded and glared at Ron, “Weasley you are going to stand away from everyone else and stay perfectly still while I do a full reading on you. Something has been off lately with your aura and I intend to find out what.”
“What in the bloody hell are you talking about?!”
“Oh enough of this!” Khira stated, before she dashed over to Ron and he was dragged to the middle of the floor, “Stay there Ronald!”
“You both are bloody mental! There's nothing wrong-”
“Shut it Ronald!” Alex cut him off and glared at him, before focusing on his aura. The emerald color his aura used to be had shifted and was now a bright sky blue. She also noted a slight lilac color around his magical core. She looked around at everyone else and her eyes settled on Pansy, seeing the same colors but in reverse for her, “Pansy stand next to him please.”
“What's going on?” She asked, moving to stand next to him and seeing the colors meld together.
“Draco and Hermione go and stand next to them to the right please” she stated and they did so, her seeing a similar reaction between their silver and gold auras, before she looked at Harry and Ginny to see the exact same thing with them, “Well that explains everything.”
“What is it Alex?” Hermione asked and she waved her over before touching her temple.
“I going to show you, so keep your eyes on Ron and Pansy and then look over at Harry and Ginny and tell me what you see” she pushed the image similar to how she had done with Remus into Hermione's mind and the witch gasped.
“It can't be!” she said, covering her mouth.
“He may not be in the same situation as you two, but he has a match” she replied quietly and smiled.
“Can someone explain to me what the bloody hell she's talking about?” Ron exclaimed and the three adults smirked.
“Were you not paying attention Mr. Weasley?” Severus stated, stepping forward, “Your aura matches Ms. Parkinson's.”
“Yeah so what?”
“It's the same as Hermione matching Draco's and Harry matching Ginny's” Alex explained, hoping he wasn't that dense but seeing he wasn't getting it, she groaned, “You're both a perfect match for each other.”
“So you're saying we're soul mates?” Pansy asked and Alex waved her hand back and forth.
“It's not described as soul mates so much as perfect couples. I didn't see it before because there's so much magic in the school it makes my aura reading ability horribly inaccurate” she summoned chairs and they all sat down “Hermione and Draco are soulmates due to their bond, but that makes them also a perfect couple. Their auras are gold and silver and the auras between them both blends and swirls together perfectly. When I look at Ron and Pansy I see bright sky blue and lilac.”
“I thought you said before my aura was emerald” Ron stated, unbelieving.
“I also stated that Draco's had changed from dark green to silver” she retorted.
“So what does it all mean exactly Alex?” Hermione asked, intervening to prevent Ron from going off.
“Pardon my interruption Alex” Severus spoke up and they all turned to him, “You stated earlier to Ms. Granger and Draco that their levels are all much higher than normal. Does the same apply to Ms. Weasley and Ms. Parkinson?”
“Let's find out” she waved her wand above both girls heads and was astonished to see their levels almost the same as their partners, “It seems you're right Severus. What are you thinking?”
“What if they both have such high levels so they can help balance the other two the same way Ms. Granger and Draco balance each other and Khira and you do for each other as well?” he stated and she thought about it.
“You mean balance as in power levels not elements?” he nodded, “That is a very interesting twist.”
“It would explain why Ms. Parkinson and Ms. Weasley are able to calm their partners. Their magic reaches out and calms them, very similar to your bond with Khira and Draco's bond to Ms. Granger.”
“We'll explore it more as time goes on, but for now, we need to figure out how to destroy that horcrux” she stated, looking at the bag on the floor, “How were the others destroyed so far?”
“Potter destroyed the first with a basilisk fang, and the ring was destroyed with the Sword of Gryffindor” Severus stated.
“The sword was also coated in basilisk venom from when I was in the chamber” Harry mumbled.
“Which we don't have because it's an illegal potion ingredient” Khira sighed and rested her head in her hands, “Anyone have any ideas?”
“If it is taking something as strong as basilisk venom to destroy it, which is pretty dark as well, why not use something just as dark” Draco stated and they all looked at him, “Fiendfyre.”
“Are you out of your damn mind?!" Alex roared, “You think I'm going to let you cast fiendfyre in this estate or on the land to destroy that?!”
“Not me” he pointed at Harry, “Him!”
“No bloody way is he using fiendfyre Malfoy!” Ginny roared, launching from her seat.
“It's too advanced of a spell Draco! He can't use it! Even Alex refuses to use it!” Khira stated, shock written on her face.
“What about the killing curse?” Hermione asked and Alex shook her head.
“An Avada is used to create it, so I don't think it will work to destroy it.”
“You're targeting the piece of his soul inside it. We can at least try it. If it doesn't work then we can go and get a fang from the Chamber when we return to the school or use the sword” the young witch pleaded.
“Alright, we'll try it” Alex sighed and rubbed her eyes, grabbing the bag off the floor, “We're going to go outside to do it though, so we can avoid it if it ricochets. If anyone is going to confront this thing, it is going to be me. We don't know what this thing will do.”
“I have to speak to it in parseltongue to open it Alex” Harry said and she nodded.
“Let's go then” Draco stated, and stood up, the others following his lead.
They all walked outside to the back patio and shivered at the cold. Alex cast a warming charm on them all and then led them through the garden to the stables. Walking past the horse stalls she opened a gate and stepped into a huge field. She motioned for them to stay behind the gate in the barn and stepped forward, opening the bag and dumping the necklace on the ground. Stepping back she took a deep breath and braced herself.
“No matter what happens stay where you are” she called over to them, “Once I cast the spell hide behind the walls and do not move until I say so.”
“Be careful love” Khira said and she nodded.
As Alex turned back to the horcrux she raised her wand and started letting her anger build inside herself. She faintly heard Harry speaking before the locket opened and a fear overcame her in a giant wave, catching her offguard. Suddenly a black mist rose from the horcrux and she shivered as Voldemort's voice hissed at her.
“I have seen your future halfbreed! I have seen your demise! All your friends will perish” the voice hissed and she felt the black mist surround her.
“You know nothing of my future!” she growled, steadying herself.
“Shall I show you your future then? Maybe what happens to your mate if you keep on this path” it hissed again and she gasped as the black mist started transforming.
Slowly the mist transformed and she cried out at seeing Khira lying on the ground, her face and neck covered in blood as a figure kneeled over her, draining her. As the figure stood up she gasped seeing it was her and she'd lost control. The figure shifted again and she growled upon seeing Severus and Khira standing there smirking at her.
“You are so naive to believe I want us to have a family together. All along it's him I've wanted and not you” the fake Khira stated and she shook her head.
“That's a lie! It's a fucking lie!” she yelled.
“Of course your marriage was a lie. It has always been a lie meant to keep you placated while we had our fun” Severus sneered, wrapping his arms around Khira's waist and kissing her neck.
“No! I won't believe it! I know it's not true!”
“You're weak Alex! You always have been weak! Even Narcissa knew it. She passed her bastard son on to you just to prove how weak you truly are” Khira said with a grin.
“Shut up!” she roared, falling to her knees.
In the barn they all were waiting with baited breath. After the mist surrounded Alex they couldn't hear anything being said. Khira tried reaching out through their link but growled upon seeing that Alex had cut her off. It had started to worry her and she started pacing back and forth. She was stopped suddenly by Severus and growled at him.
“She shut me out!”
“I'm sure she had good intentions in doing so Khira” he said quietly, holding her arms to keep her in place.
“Let go of me Severus!”
“When she's done you need to be ready for the aftermath! The horcrux attacks you mentally. We don't know what she is being shown! It will try and play tricks with her mind” he hissed and she shook her head.
“She shouldn't have shut me out!”
“Can you feel her but not see what it is showing her?” he asked.
“I can barely feel her. She's angry and upset but there's something else. It feels like doubt and betrayal.”
“Something's happening!” Pansy cried out and they saw a flash of green before hearing a loud shriek and ducked behind the walls.
They all slowly crept to the door and found Alex kneeling on the ground, breathing heavily. Khira went to try and move closer, but seeing her mate's eyes were glowing she stopped.
“Alex is everything alright love?” she asked slowly, before her wife's eyes bore into hers and she disapparated on the spot, “Shit! It must have been very bad. Gippy!”
“Yes Mistress?” the elf replied after appearing next to her.
“Where's Alex?”
“She is in her office and has started drinking from the top shelf bottles Mistress.”
“Damn it! Give me five minutes and then you guys can come back to the house. I suggest gathering that locket and putting it into that bag before you do so” she said, disapparating as well.
“Are they going to be alright?” Hermione asked and Snape shook his head.
“The top shelf liquor is alcohol and blood mixed. Normal alcohol doesn't effect her as easily and that will mean she gets drunk very fast. Whatever she was shown, it has her on edge.”
“I don't think she destroyed the horcrux. It's still in pristine condition.” Harry said, using his wand to pick it up and move it into the bag again.
“Let's start heading back inside. By the time we get there they should be ready for us to join them” Draco said and they started walking back.
Khira slowly entered the office to find Alex turned away from the door. She noted the bottle in her hand was nearly empty, knowing it had been full earlier. She slowly approached the desk but froze upon hearing Alex sigh.
“Leave” the tone Alex took chilled Khira to the bone and pissed her off.
“I am not leaving Alex” she replied, squaring her shoulders.
“I said leave Khira!” Alex growled, turning to face her and Khira gasped upon seeing the tear tracks on her face and how red her eyes were, “It is better we not talk about this right now.”
“You shut me out” it wasn't a statement, but she hoped Alex caught on.
“Yes I did! I would do it again and again if it meant you didn't have to see anything it showed me!” Alex growled baring her fangs.
“Don't block me on this Alex please” she begged.
“I told you to leave.”
“I'm not leaving!” Khira growled back at her.
“You will leave as I am ordering you-”
“NO! I'm not leaving Alex!” Khira yelled, and instantly was pinned against a wall.
“You would openly defy me just to have your way on this?”
“Punish me if you have to, but I am not leaving until we talk this over!” Khira hissed before Alex let go of her and turned away, “Alexandria Marie Kruss look at me!”
“No” Alex simply stated, moving to grab another bottle from the shelf.
Khira sighed and moved towards the middle of the room. She knew what she had to do to get Alex under control, but it was humiliating for her to do. Swallowing her pride she fell to the floor and sat back on her calves, moving her feet to lay the top of them flat on the floor. She pulled her hair off her neck on the right side and looked down and to her left.
“Alex look at me please” she said quietly and heard shuffling before her wife gasped, “I kneel before you as your mate and bonded. I submit to you and ask your forgiveness for my actions. I only wish to be by your side to support you through this. Please allow me to do so and do not push me away.”
Alex stood there in shock; the sight of her wife submitting to her rang through her core. It brought the things she had just seen back full force and she couldn't hold it in anymore, the tears falling down her face again as she knelt next to her, “I can't let you see what it showed me tonight Khira. It was too much for me to bare. It had me doubting our bond.”
“What?” Khira's eyes locked onto her wife's and she looked at her in shock.
“That's how fucked up what it was showing me was. It showed me stuff involving Sev and you.”
“Look at me right now” Khira grabbed both sides of Alex's face and forced her to look into her eyes which were glowing bright indigo, “Our vows were loud and clear! We are bound mind, body, and soul! Do not ever fucking doubt our bond. You are my wife and I have not, nor will I ever be unfaithful to you. What we discussed with Draco and Hermione is something we would agree on together and you would be in complete control of it. I love you and you better remember that.”
“Am I weak?” Alex asked and Khira gasped.
“Why...Why would you ask me that?” At her wife's gaze looking down she gasped, “Did it use me to attack you?”
“Y-Yes!”
“Let me see everything” Alex shook her head quickly at this and Khira glared at her, “Let me see it Alex!”
Alex gulped and let the wall down so Khira could see everything that had happened. As she watched Alex break down more and more her anger grew. It shifted from anger to sadness as she watched herself and Severus humiliate and belittle Alex, calling her weak, telling her she'd be a pathetic mother, and even that she was not worthy of having a child in the first place. It ended with a scene showing Snape and her sleeping together and her telling him she loved him more than Alex. The Avada they'd witness Alex use was in reaction to that, but the voice just laughed at her and sunk back into the locket. Alex felt she had failed them by being unable to destroy it. Once the memory was over Khira grabbed the bottle and took a large drink from it, before leaning against her wife's shoulder.
“I'm so sorry you had to endure that love” she whispered, trying not to cry as well. Before Alex could respond they heard someone clear their throat and looked to see Severus and the others in the doorway.
“Are you both alright?” he asked and Hermione looked at him shocked to see the concern in his eyes.
“We'll be fine Sev” Alex stated, moving to stand up and then helped Khira up, before sitting in her chair and pulling her wife into her lap.
“That bad Alex?” he asked, eyeing the second bottle.
“You have no idea.”
“Care to show me?” he stated, his eyes boring into hers and she growled as he slowly pushed against her mind, asking for permission. She wanted to block him out, but she was too drunk to care and let him see the entire time she was in the mist. He snarled as he saw the scene with him and Khira and sighed, “We need to talk.”
“It seems we do” she stated and looked at the teens, “I also think it would be better if we have it alone.”
“Don't have to tell me twice” Harry said, placing the bag with the locket on the front of her desk, “Come on guys! Let's go to bed and we can talk about this tomorrow morning.”
As the teens left the room he went over and made himself a drink as well, gulping it down, before he turned back to the two witches. They each shared a look and knew tonight was not going to be an easy one for all of them.
